The Best New Restaurants in Houston, Texas in July 2025 | Eater Houston

"Located in the Plant in Second Ward, this new coffee shop celebrates Latin culture with coffee drinks crafted with homemade syrups, many of which are named after activists. Try the Angela Davis (Mexican natural cold brew mixed with jasmine syrup and oat milk) or the Alice Valdez (Colombian cold brew, taro extract, oat milk, and vanilla). The new, cozy, plant-filled spot, ideal for remote workers, is in collaboration with Caribbean food truck Flor y Miel, which serves empanadas, beef stew, and Dominican fusion dishes, such as “Rasta Pasta,” on the patio. The cafe will eventually add alcohol to its menu, but the space already seems pretty lively without it, with live music and community events." - Brittany Britto Garley

Absolutely in LOVE with the vibe curated at Las Perras. There’s art all around to admire while awaiting your order, as well as plenty seating to choose from. They had a food pantry right outside their door, which I truly loved to see. This is the kind of coffee shop that deserves our coins! Their Yemeni Chai is toooodieeeeforrrrr. The honey really elevates it! I had it with oat milk.

Honey matcha w/pistachio milk - 10/10 - Best honey🍯 matcha ive had and matcha was strong Banana matcha w/vanilla cold foam - 8/10 - Matcha was so good but barely had banana🍌 flavor Gingerbread latte w/pumpkin cold foam - 6.5/10 - Foam was good but coffee had a sour taste, and didnt taste like gingerbread Maple pecan latte w/pistachio milk - 7/10 - More on the bitter side, i liked the bits of pecan but didnt taste much like maple Hot cocoa - 9.5/10 - Loved the spices in this🍫 Gingerbread cookie - 7/10 - Kinda hard but gingerbread flavor was nice and lightly sweet Pumpkin concha - 8/10 - Soft and moist🍞 with a nice coating but didnt taste much like pumpkin Las Perras has some really good matcha 🍵 so if youre in the area, stop by to try it! They have many syrups and foams to choose from as well. Their coffee ☕️ is on the more stronger/bitter side so if you like that then you might like the coffee!

The ambiance is unparalleled. Not a huge rush of people. It's such a beautiful space to relax in and think. It's such an oasis and the drinks are so yummy. Plus it's always the best supporting Latina owned businesses!

🍵🥐 Such an Amazing Experience at Las Perras Café ☕️ 🍪 A soulful, community-rooted space in Houston’s East River District I visited Las Perras Café for a Her Texas women-owned business meetup at 10 AM… and ended up staying until 3. That’s how beautiful and welcoming this space is — I truly didn’t want to leave. 🌸 The Vibe & Atmosphere Walking into Las Perras feels like being transported to another place. Warm pink distressed walls, handcrafted wooden tables (made by the owner’s father), lush greenery, and vintage touches make the space feel both lived-in and loved. The natural light, cozy corners, and layered textures create a calming energy that makes it easy to stay awhile. Whether you sit indoors or on the patio, it feels like a sanctuary for community and creativity. 🪴 The Story Behind It Andrea, the owner, is from El Paso and spent four years selling handmade bottled teas and coffees at local markets — each one named after an activist she admires. She eventually bought the café from Eden Plant Co. and preserved its lush, botanical feel as a tribute to its roots. Every corner tells a story — from the furniture her father crafted by hand, to the menu she thoughtfully developed. She gave me a tour herself and it’s clear how much intention and care has gone into every detail. 🌻 A Multi-Use Creative Space Las Perras is more than just a café — it’s a mixed-use creative space that hosts everything from open mic nights and poetry readings to art parties, workshops, and entrepreneur meetups. Whether you’re here to study, get work done, meet with friends, or attend an event, the space supports all of it. It’s cozy enough to feel personal, and spacious enough to build community. 🍛Flor y Miel — Authentic Latin Caribbean Food Truck parked on the patio. Flor y Miel, a multigenerational food concept rooted in Dominican heritage, operates both inside the café and from a stationary food truck on the patio. Their dishes pair perfectly with the drinks and baked goods offered at Las Perras. Their $20 lunch special includes your choice of protein and a side — full of bold, soulful flavor. It’s hearty, affordable, and beautifully complements the overall vibe. 🍵 What I Ordered I tried the oat milk matcha latte with handcrafted banana syrup — and I’m still thinking about it. They don’t charge extra for alternative milks, which is rare and deeply appreciated. They also source from green importers who support micro-lots — small, cooperative-based farms where growers work together. It’s a beautiful intersection of flavor, sustainability, and equity. 🚗 🚲🚌Good to Know • Free street parking + a lot in back • 30-minute front parking available • Metro Green Line nearby • Bike-friendly with plenty of racks • Spacious interior + patio seating • Clean restrooms • Quiet enough to study, read, enjoy a cozy hobby, or work, the music is calm and cozy ✨ Final Thoughts This is the kind of place you plan to stop by and then end up staying for hours. It’s welcoming, intentional, culturally rich, women-led, and filled with heart. Whether you’re here for a bite, a work session, a moment of peace, or to connect with others, Las Perras Café offers space for it all. I’m so glad I found it. And I can’t wait to come back.

I stopped by Las Perras Coffee in Houston’s Second Ward and from the moment I walked in I could feel the laid back vibe that sets this place apart. The scene carries an ease to it, yet it is rich with character. The aesthetic is thoughtful and feels in tune with the history of the neighborhood, like the walls and design are in conversation with the stories of this part of the city. Ashley, the barista, greeted me with warmth and prepared a double shot of espresso that was crafted with care. It was strong, smooth, and became the perfect finish to my visit. That espresso was not just a drink but a detail that tied the whole experience together. What I love most about Las Perras is how it creates space for both stillness and community. You can come here to read, to meet a friend, or just to pause for a moment in your day. It is a place that invites you to slow down and take in the energy of Second Ward. For anyone living in Houston or passing through, Las Perras is more than a coffee stop. It is an experience, a reflection of culture, and a reminder of why local spaces matter. Five stars across the board. LOVE THE PLANTS & ART!! JP

Google
This coffee shop is so cute! Super nice ambiance and the barista was really nice and sweet. Unfortunately their drinks aren’t great :/ Paid almost $20 for two matchas and they were so disappointing and watered down? They tried to mask this by adding more sweetness and it tasted like a watery sugar drink. My sister ordered a chai and same thing. It tasted so watery and had no flavor. The drink size is so small for price you pay as well. Maybe I need to try their coffee instead but wouldn’t recommend as a go to matcha spot.

Google
A true gem in the city! Great tasting coffee drinks, good variety of pastries, and the most delightful staff. And Flor y Miel just a stones throw away is amazing as well, order the empanadas! Las Perras is a perfect hub for community events as well, so make sure to support this spot! We need more places like this🫶🏽

Yelp
Las Perras Cafe pays homage to female leaders and activists-with beverages named after Dolores Huerta, Angela Davis, and Alma Negra. Love supporting women- and Latina-owned businesses, and Las Perras is another added to my list. So, I finally treated myself to Las Perras again since their big grand opening this spring (it was incredibly busy that day and I don't think it was fair to review that experience since it wasn't a typical one). This time, I got a banana matcha-hot. And I brought my own to-go cup (tryna to cut back on single-use plastics). It was good, not too sweet per my request. They have a lovely setup of tables and nooks flanked my plants and beautiful wall art. Outside, there's a spacious gravel patio with a Dominican (and woman-owned) food truck, Flor Y Miel.

Yelp
I really wanted to like this place. I ordered a latte and felt the coffee was super acidic. Also, the service was just ok. There were 2-3 people in the back but only one barista working? And she was kinda short when taking my order and handing me my drink. Idk. I had higher expectations and this was a miss for me. IMO, a successful coffee shop needs to feel welcoming to get people to come back. Also, please look for ways to make your coffee less acidic. Dark and acidic is not it.

Yelp
I hate sounding harsh when reviewing a small business, but their prices are pretty bougie here considering it's still the 2nd ward and there was a street person wandering around and yelling to himself & trying car doors in the back parking lot. To be clear, I'm not besmirching EADO or the 2nd Ward and am aware of the history and the changes that have been made in recent years, but just pointing out that it doesn't command Highland Village pricing- actually regular coffee and hot tea is cheaper in those places. Now if the coffee was good (like on Twin Peaks when Agent Cooper takes a sip) I wouldn't have even brought up the price but it was average at best. I noticed they had some more craft type drinks, and it would have been nice to get a friendly greeting and offered some suggestions but there was none of that there either so I just went with the drip coffee which usually tells you where they stand on their coffee. Anyway, the place does have its charm and I really hope that this area will reach a point where it can be up there with the best neighborhoods but I have to be honest with the reviews and will update it after my next visit.

Yelp
Loved this coffee shop. I stay away from sugary drinks, I prefer strong, good tasting savory coffee. So I really enjoyed this place. Every time I am in town I have to stop for coffee. I always get a lavendar iced latte and a cortado.

Yelp
Love this cafe! We have been wanting to come check this place out for a while. Finding it in Instagram it did not disappoint trying their drinks. The drinks were delivered fast and the customer service was nice. Andrea, the owner, was very welcoming and we chatted briefly about the advocacy and the community engagement they have in the store. Having a little Xoloitzcuintli made this place more special for us and the decoration they have. Great place to come chill and also work. Parking might be tough but it's a must.

Yelp
These Perras Know Their Coffee!" Okay, first of all--the name alone pulled me in. Las Perras? Iconic. Bold. Spicy. Just like their espresso. This place is not your average hipster coffee shop. From the neon sign that says "Sip Like a P*rra" to the playlist that bounces from Bad Bunny to old-school Selena, the energy here is unmatched. It's like your abuelita's kitchen met a trendy downtown café and they decided to open a business together. I got the café de olla with oat milk (bless them for having dairy-free options that don't taste like sadness), and it was a warm, cinnamon-spiced hug in a cup. Also tried their concha breakfast sandwich--yes, you read that right--and I may never recover. Sweet. Savory. Magic. The staff? Sassy in the best way. They're quick with a recommendation and somehow remember everyone's name by your second visit. Love that for us. Seating is limited, so get there early if you plan to post up for a bit. But whether you're grabbing a to-go cup or sticking around to vibe, Las Perras delivers.

Yelp
Got an iced cafe de olla latte and it tasted a bit watered down. Maybe I didn't order the right thing? Will come back in the future to try a different item. Such a cute coffee shop though!

Yelp

Yelp
wanted to love this but unfortunately this did not hit! for ~$19 for two drinks, i wish the matcha was brighter and packed more flavor. i love the natural lighting and think this shop has such unique character.

Yelp
Great space! Stopped in for SCA and love the vibe and plants! Definitely has character-- and in the best way! Enjoyed my brief stop

Miriam R.

Yelp
The atmosphere at Las Perras Cafe is fantastic. There are several different places to sit snd enjoy your coffee. The owner was very welcoming and she patiently explained what the drink I asked about was made. I love cold coffee and ordered the Espresso Mocktini. It was amazing - best cold coffee I've had ever! It's made with dark chocolate and brut cocoa, oat milk and espresso. My daughter ordered the macha latte with oat milk and brown sugar syrup. She said it was the best also and better than Starbucks by far. We are definitely coming back. We're only sad we live so far away, but the hour drive was definitely worth it.

Alejandra Q.

Yelp
Las Perras cafe has such an amazing aura. As soon as you walk in it feels like a warm hug! I had their banana matcha and it was delicious to say the least! Go try this amazing neighborhood shop!

Yelp
$7.58 for a standard ice vanilla late. Bad parking. Flavor was just ok. I wasn't impressed.
