Houston's Restaurant & Bar Openings - Houston - The Infatuation

"The chef behind Midtown seafood spot Reef is back with Latuli in Memorial. The space channels a vintage Texas ranch, with details like a host stand carved from a tree root. The menu pulls from Gulf waters and Texas farmland, serving snapper tiradito and Wagyu barbacoa alongside familiar favorites like Reef’s smoked pork chop. And because it’s a family-friendly neighborhood, there’s also a kids menu featuring Gulf fish sticks and Texas toast grilled cheese." - brooke viggiano, gianni greene, chelsea thomas

As soon as you step foot into Latuli, you are immediately transported into a vibrant and lively environment. It’s such a gorgeous space with a food menu to match. Everything we had was incredible. Compliments to all the friendly staff and chef Ethan! Do yourself a favor and start w bread service. Perfect for a GNO or date night

I recommend making a reservation because the restaurant is very busy all the time. It's a good location, it only has valet parking ($8). The place is very beautiful, it has a large room, a smaller one, and a patio. The staff is very attentive and friendly. Felipe, our waiter, was very attentive and always kept an eye on the table. The atmosphere was good. The food was very good. As a starter, we ordered the Ahi Tuna and the Snapper Carpaccio, both very good and fresh, although a little small to share among several people. My favorite was Orecchiette Pasta. The dessert was exquisite

First off, loved the food and would absolutely come back for it. Came on a Sunday afternoon for lunch. Was definitely not crowded this time of day. Interior was well thought out and pleasant. As open as the dining room was at this time of day, we were sat directly next to another party of 2. This typically would not be a negative. However, our waiter was tending to both tables. We were often caught getting looped together as a group by the waiter to talk or waiting on the other table to finish speaking with them in order to get service. And I’m talking full blown conversation. Kind of awkward and uncomfortable for us, as my spouse and I intending to have a date, and not wanting to interact with other diners? Just wasn’t what we desire from an upscale dining experience. So if anything I’d change that, and the $8 valet parking.

Wow! Just going to see the buildout would have been enough, but throw in the amazing dishes crafted by Bryan Caswell, and you’ve got one of the most exciting new restaurants to open in Houston in years. The moment I walked in, I was greeted at this beautifully sculpted host stand that looks like a piece of Texas art, made from a huge tree. The bar is immediately to the right, warm and welcoming, like a lodge, buzzing with energy, and to the left, the main dining room opens up with high ceilings, exposed wooden beams, huge potted palms, and softly glowing lanterns. It’s one of those spaces that feels stylish and elevated, but still welcoming and comfortable. And the food? Absolutely fantastic. Every dish I tried was beautifully executed and full of flavor. Just to mention a few, the Greener Pasture Chicken, the Meatball XL, the Wild Boar Ragu, the Roasted Grouper, and the Batata Brava were all standouts in their own right. The textures, the balance of flavors, the presentation...all perfect. I won't go into detail about the desserts, but they were equally amazing. I've included a lot of photos because I cannot describe them all. I cannot wait to go back!

New favorite restaurant! Got the snapper carpaccio, pork chop, crab cakes, broccolini, mashed potatoes, and peach cobbler and all were delicious! One of the best crab cakes I’ve had. Our waiter Sean was also great! We will absolutely be returning

Google
LATULI is the creation of Bryan Caswell and Erin Hicks. Bryan is an amazing chef and has brought an amazing menu life. They have minimized plastics in the kitchen and boast farm to table food. ITS DELICIOUS... The Bar is spectacular offering carefully curated cocktails and top shelf liquor. The wine menu is phenomenal. There is even a patio and kids play area, I mean they thought of everything. This brand new Restaurant/Bar/Venue is located in the heart of Memorial Villages right off I-10 frontage rd.

Yelp
Hot, new restaurant in the Houston Memorial area. Restaurant was crowded until fairly late, good energy, borderline too loud. But the experience was wonderful. The service was exceptional. The entire staff is well versed in high end service. I was very impressed with the waiter's knowledge and ability to describe and recommend items. The sommelier was fantastic, helped perfectly choose the wine for my palette and helped me discern what to pair. Highly recommend, we will definitely go back

Yelp
The decor and ambiance of Latuli's dining room and patio are thoughtfully and aesthetically designed. At lunch, the place was packed with a fun crowd. There was not an empty seat. We were sat in the bar which is not nearly as well appointed as the other areas of the restaurant and a tad loud and I like a loud-ish bar. The service was slow, not attentive and missing essential parts of nicer dining. The place was crowded; however, there were three bartenders. Typically three bartenders can handle a bar that seats approximately 30 people. The food we had was just ok. Presentation was average, but portions were a decent size. The food prices reflected the offerings. We both felt the menu had good variety. The bar program seems up to snuff. Drinks are inventive and around the $18 price point. By the glass wine prices are a tad higher than most places within this price range. My partner had a $22 glass of average red wine that was a tad under a 6 ounce pour. The small pour in small glasses looked cheap. We both love that Latuli offers mahjong play and lunch daily at 1:30. It's a brilliant idea. We will definitely be back for that, the vibe and beautiful atmosphere.

Yelp
Pretty slick transformation that took place at this building, moved from a commercial cleaner to this complete 180° dining space. There's valet only and it was a bit tight getting around the valet space, and I also recommend grabbing a reservation since even on a weekday at lunch they filled up quickly. Restaurant staff and accommodations were excellent, comfy seats and interesting room decor to look at. The experience was more kid friendly than I expected; high chairs are available as well as a kids menu with colors! We try to keep the kids trying new food like us, and it's great when a restaurant embraces families instead of sidelining them. The menu had some prepared raw dishes, we went with the ahi tuna and avocado. Some hot shareables, of which we tried the chicken and hummus and meatball in ragu. Both had some nice craveability, my word for the certain quality that makes it hard to stop eating. During lunch they have sandwiches and they they seems to lean into some Italian touches, so you'll see some fresh takes on a pizza or pasta as well. We went with the seafood skewer, I was a bit underwhelmed with what I got as it was only 3 shrimp and 1.5 piece of fish. Maybe could've found a way to make the dish go a bit further with another side. Wife got a snapper that she enjoyed fully, not disappointed on her end. We enjoyed a couple of drinks here too, there's a nicely stocked and big bar area and lounge to enjoy. Plenty of creative drinks. We may visit again if the hype dies down, I like that they're open for lunch to help space out the crowd. Overall the trend of restaurants were I enjoy the apps and shareables more than the entrees continues here.

Yelp
we started with the sliced wedge salad. it had all the parts including some crisp iceberg. from there we both had fish- the fish dishes were very good. The peach cobbler dessert finished a very nice effort from the kitchen! The ambiance was country club after church x 10 on volume. All the furniture is low so everyone can see everyone else... lots of tables of women being loud. Our waitress was clueless. she showed up several times to announce "enjoy" when my drink glass had been empty and the table uncleared. The table next to us invited friends over to crowd around for drinks. Management didn't care. food 10/10, noise- maybe not on weekends, service is apologetic

Yelp
Great new spot on the scene! Very neighborly vibes...it felt like everyone in there lives just around the corner. It was packed the night we went and we were glad we made reservations way in advance. The seating area is beautiful, with high ceilings and lots of tables, but made for a slightly noisy dining space. The food was very good, and I think I enjoyed the starters more than the main course! Will definitely be back to try more as the menu changes. The wait staff was incredibly friendly, and even toured us around the property some at the end. All in all we had a great experience, and will be back.

Yelp
My wife and I stopped by Latuli yesterday for a quick dinner prior to an event in the Memorial area. The reservation was for 5 PM, and we were seated in the lounge area which was very busy and boisterous. Other than the fact we were able to watch the end of the Astros game, sitting in the lounge for our first visit to the restaurant was the only disappointment of the night. We started out with a couple of cocktails from the bar - A very good version of a Sazerac and a gin cocktail called Aviation that was too tart for my wife's taste. Roman was our server, and he was very informative and attentive. We were on a deadline to make the event later in the evening, so we got right to ordering. We got the Ahi Tuna Ribbons from the raw bar section. Very good app with just the right blend of soy, avocado, and ginger. Then for hot appetizers I ordered the duck and sausage gumbo and my wife opted for the heirloom tomato salad. The tomato salad was a definite hit. The fresh tomatoes along with the homemade Russian dressing and basil oil were a perfect match. The onion rings on top were good also, but perhaps only one onion ring was necessary to keep the dish more on the light side. The gumbo was tasty, but I like my roux a little thicker, so I might skip this dish next time. For the entrees my wife ordered the Snapper and Swiss Chard dish - very very good!! One of the best snapper dishes I think I've had. Very rich with the onion soubise topping. I had a dish off the "Daily Special" portion of the menu - Tempura Flounder with Asian xo sauce. This dish was the bomb, and why I love chef driven restaurants. Lightly breaded (seemed even lighter than typical tempura), with a very flavorful and medium spicy xo sauce. Crisp on the outside and moist on the inside and seasoned well. Served with a pickled greens salad. Great dish. The only side we added was the Sweet Potato Patatas Bravas. It was OK, but not great and we were getting full anyway. Really my mistake because I didn't notice they were sweet potatoes prior to ordering and sweet potatoes are not my thing. All in all a great meal with great service, in a great space. Only a month or so in, and this meal hit on all cylinders. Will enjoy a return visit and hopefully a seat in the main dining room to have better ambiance.

Yelp
Update: During our visit our waiter brought us a complimentary prosecco to share in celebration of our anniversary. A lovely gesture. As I was looking at the receipt the next morning I noticed that we had been charged $13 for the "complimentary" prosecco. I am certainly hoping that that was an error that the restaurant will rectify. I have sent an email and will update with their response. We did not request anything complimentary nor did it in anyway affect my review, which is why it wasn't mentioned in my original review. The food, service & environment were lovely. I stand by my original review but hope they will correct their error. Updated: no one ever responded back. Keeping my rating the same but check your bill carefully before paying is my advice.

Yelp
Latuli's food was good, though a bit heavy, and the service was lacking. While it's an absolutely beautiful buildout and I think it will do well in that location, Latuli isn't my favorite restaurant. Our table ordered quite a few dishes to share, and none of them were bad, and none of them were amazing--and there were just SO many options on the menu that I didn't really know where to start. Here are the items I would order again: -Bread service: The parker house rolls were OK, but the cornbread is what made this dish great--perfect flavor and perfectly cooked, with whipped butter on the side. -Chicken and hummus: It's exactly what it sounds like--fried chicken tenders on a bed of hummus. The only item I wish we hadn't ordered was the peach cobbler for dessert. The flavor was super tart and not as sweet as I would have hoped, but the real fault with the dish is that it took 30+ minutes to come out to the table. Way too long of a wait without any warning. Service generally was sparse. The restaurant was super busy on a Friday night, and staff was not attentive. Our server didn't come to take drink orders until 15 minutes after we sat down, and those drinks took 15 minutes more to come out. Just not great service.

Yelp
The meal was divine! Drinks were on fire! We sat outside which was nice but inside is even more beautiful. Reserve in advance for indoors. Allison Knight, the co-owner with Chef Bryan Caswell, came by to check in with us which so kind. She chatted a bit took our empty cocktail glasses. Service was truly impeccable overall.

Yelp
We had a great experience a Latuli. Our server was attentive and provided great recommendations from cocktails to eats. There was great ambiance and the interior decor is gorgeous. A Mediterranean/ rustic vibe. We live in the area so will return! Thank you for coming to the Village!

Yelp
Had a reservation for next Saturday evening thinking it was this Saturday, but they quickly accommodated us. Food and ambiance is great! As you can see from snaps taken, we had quite a bit, and every single dish was amazing. I'd come again to try their brunch! Valet is $8

Yelp
Rounding up from 3.5 stars to give them the benefit of the doubt. I wanted to love Latuli. The place is gorgeous, no doubt--it's giving upscale Mediterranean resort, and the patio is definitely date-night worthy. But the food? Kind of hit or miss. We started with the Shiner Bock mussels which were decent but super salty, and the double dip appetizer everyone talks about was...fine. I think I was expecting more wow. The rock shrimp tacos were fun and crispy, though. My orecchiette with sausage was flavorful but arrived lukewarm. Service was friendly and tried to be helpful, but it was chaotic--like they were understaffed or still figuring things out. Also, it gets loud inside. You're basically yelling across the table if you come during peak dinner. Wine list was cool if you're into boutique bottles, but I wish they had a few more by-the-glass options that didn't require asking the server to decode them. I'd give it another shot for the vibes alone, but not in a rush. Maybe better as a drinks-and-apps spot than a full dinner.

Yelp
Came for happy hour and took some food to go. Vaquero margarita was tasty and would order again. The duck sticks were popular at our table although I didn't try myself. The Truffle Pepperoni Pizza was not my favorite. The pickled serrano is misplaced against the truffle flavor. Also had the orecchiette and Italian sausage pasta which was good. Beautiful ambiance in the bar and restaurant.

Yelp
I hate to give this place a bad review because the owner seemed very nice but hopefully this will help improve the restaurant. Ambiance was 10/10. We went to the bar while waiting for our table. The bartender asked us to close out our tab even before preparing our drinks. This was very strange for a restaurant of this caliber. Usually you either close out the tab after being served the drinks or have it charged with your table. I also had to ask for ice for my drink because it was luke warm which I felt strange doing. Food was underwhelming. The clams were overly briny. The barbacoa was strangely sweet and blah. The server described the chicken as "very flavorful" however it seemed under seasoned and overcooked. We skipped dessert. Our server was polite but seemed inexperienced. Valet was $8 and there is no option to self park at the restaurant.

Yelp
What an incredible experience! Bryan Caswell & TEAM have really outdone themselves with this gorgeous & delicious gem! Came here for date night, being seafood lovers we pretty much had an all fish evening, grouper, snapper & crab cakes all were top notch and fantastic! Started off with the "chorizo & egg" puff pastry special as our appetizer - so good! The cocktails were great, the rosé was stellar, and the sweet potatoes veggie side was so delicious! The atmosphere and decor was incredible, I especially loved the art wall in the bar area! Our bartender Louis & waiter Jose couldn't have been better or better trained! Houston definitely has a new fine dining experience with a casual flare! So excited for Latuli! I cannot recommend this restaurant enough!

Yelp
Latuli has amazing potential. Food was great, service needs some work, but it's brand new and as any newly formed team, they need some time to gel. Things to work on: we had a reservation, but were seated late by 15 min. No big deal, we had a drink at the bar and the bartenders were attentive and made a great drink. Some delays with our server, who was trying very hard and was kind to us. The owner stopped by our table, said hello, offered to get us a drink as we were empty which was nice. Positives: Food was 5 stars. Crab cakes is amazing. The steak with cheese crepe was like something I've never had. Cooked perfectly. Overall we will return. The ambiance is unique and warm. Lodge like.

Yelp
Food was ok. Service was good. Ambiance is confusing with deer head on the wall and plants needing water. Menu is completely confusing, like a foreign language in English. Wish them luck but not going to be here long with my prediction. honestly i am not sure where I went . Very very disappointed

Roy S.

Yelp
Service was beyond terrible. Food was extremely mediocre. Drinks were pretty good but it took 30 minutes to get a drink after we sat down. Went with 7 other people so we tried a lot of the menu. Didn't taste anything that blew me away. Would've left less than 20 percent tip if it wasn't automatically included on the bill. Won't be back unless someone else is footing the bill.

Melanie B.

Yelp
Amazing ambiance!! Food and cocktails were also fabulous, we will be back! Nice to have something new in Spring Branch/Memorial area

Yelp
This is a wonderful new Houston restaurant. We've had lunch and dinner there. We can vouch for the crab cake, chicken, and fish. The service is good and the decor is unique. Give it a try, but plan ahead. We made our dinner reservation three weeks out and still had to sit in the lounge (which we really liked).

Yelp
From entering into their beautiful restaurant, great service, and fantastic food, I truly enjoyed the restaurant. It was very busy but everyone made sure we were ok.

Yelp
This place is a gem. Really great design that makes you feel you are in a beautiful ranch house. Great great great food and drinks. The menu is well done and it is delicious. The place is new and the service is overall solid and will get better over time. This was really worth the meal.

Kim B.

Yelp
Wow! Beautiful space w unique dishes firing on all cylinders! From the pimento and redfish dips to the wagyu barbacoa and chorizo in puffed yucca to the chocolate layer cake, the flavors and service were exceptional. Total home run! Kudos to Allison and Bryan. Can't wait to come back!

Yelp
Latuli is my new favorite restaurant! It has such a fun ambiance, is busy, fun, and comfortable yet beautiful. The servers are all so nice and recognize you when you return, some even greet with hugs! The food is outstanding (and so are the drinks- I'm a repeat Clover Club and Sancerre girl)! So many options, big flavors, and creative dishes. I truly struggle with what to pick because so many items are SO good! I love the tuna ribbon, XL meatball is always a hit, the heirloom tomato burrata with onion rings on top, the shrimp fried rice is incredible, The Greener Pastures chicken main course is so tender and flavorful, and all of the pasta is beyond delicious! I even went with a friend one night who was gluten free and we ordered everything to share gluten free and it was just as yummy as the regular! Oh- the crab cake is also amazing and last night we tried the flounder! The desserts are also delicious- I can never choose between the cobbler and the cheesecake. Make a reservation and go enjoy!

Yelp
Exceptional dining experience. They leave nothing to chance. The atmosphere was slightly upscale but very casual. Service was impeccable without being intrusive. Decor is beautiful. AND THE FOOD! We started with bread service and my wife fell in love with the jalapeño pear jelly. I loved the cornbread, light and packed with flavor. Heirloom tomato salad and a tart like chorizo appetizer told us we were in for a treat. Both were well executed, beautiful presentation and tasted incredible. The onion rings had us talking as my first bite fooled my taste buds with the tallow flavor. It had a hint of steak and were some of the best onion rings I have had. Our mains were the Grateful Pastures chicken, barbarcoa and flat iron steak. The three of us shared bites and so glad we did. Unlike most of the chicken we eat today, the chicken actually tasted like chicken! The barbarcoa was melt in your mouth good and my flat iron steak was tender with a robust beef flavor. Loved it! We finished with the creme fraiche cheesecake. Very smooth, creamy, flavorful with a clean finish. An exceptional dining experience that I would recommend for any occasion or just to have a great meal.
