The Newest Restaurants In Chicago

"Layla & Ringo’s is just a few steps from DJ’s and is from the same restaurant group as DJ's Great Room. This River North cafe and self-described “modern bodega” is open for breakfast and lunch, so you can get coffee, pastries, breakfast sandwiches and BLTs with a side of wifi." - john ringor, veda kilaru, nick allen

Chicago’s Best Coffee Shops | Eater Chicago

"Layla & Ringo’s is part cafe and part corner store, and opened in early 2025 from the team that’s brought Chicago DMK Burger Bar. This is work-from-home heaven with speedy Internet, beautifully designed tables and a trio of phone booth-inspired private rooms for video calls. Episcope, the owners, have experience with coffee, having run Werewolf Coffee and other spaces. There’s an awful amount of polish in a very new space." - Ashok Selvam

"A corner-store–style specialty grocer and all-day neighborhood market that complements the adjacent restaurant space, selling groceries sourced from local vendors alongside prepared meals and fresh pastries. Positioned as an alternative to larger specialty grocers, it aims to serve everyday neighborhood needs with a curated, local emphasis. Open mornings through early evening (7 a.m.–7 p.m., Tuesday–Sunday)." - Ashok Selvam

Layla & Ringo’s and DJ’s Great Room are coming to River North | Eater Chicago

"Somewhat inspired by Foxtrot — “at least the best version of the corner store chain that’s mounted a comeback since ceasing operations during the spring of 2024” — this concept is described by Morton as “It’s our version of a third place that blends groceries, prepared meals, and everyday essentials with coffee and pastries.” Additionally, there will be home and work essentials available as well as private rooms for work-related activities, and room service will be available for residents. Local design group Siren Betty is overseeing the expansive interiors, which Morton describes as “airy and easy breezy,” and HiFi is doing the branding work. The venue is planned for early 2025 at 920 N. Wells Street as part of JDL Development’s North Union on the Moody Bible Institute campus, a sprawling $1.3 billion, 8.1-acre development that includes more than 2,600 residential units across seven high rises." - Lisa Shames

This is our last stop before we catch our flight. Wrong decision. This coffee place is the kind of place where you stay and really enjoy the space. Food and drinks are great. I love their mini mart. If I live in Chicago, this could be my spot to get some work done during the day because of the vibe.

Pro: An amazing coffee spot to catch up with friends or get work done. The coffee is a little pricey, but good. Recommend strawberries and cream latte. Cons: As for food, Caesar wrap needs some work. I did think the almost $7 for a lavender black tea was psycho. Will come back, but will stick to coffee.

This was our first experience at it was fabulous! My husband got the BLT and I got the smoothie bowl. The only reason I’m giving 4 stars is because the BLT was inconsistent: the avocado and spread was only on one side of the completed sandwich; it was THAT good, it matters! The smoothie bowl was phenomenal - the addition of Dark Matter coffee in it was such a nice touch - no notes

Beautiful place. I loved the decor, the service and the options they had. The pistachio cold brew was great, not as sweet as I normally like - but for most it would be ideal. The books they had around the place, the mix of seating, the outdoor plants, and the store were beautiful. I would love to come back. Recommended!

I enjoyed this place! The coffee was pretty good and the vibes of the coffee shop were so unique and fun. I had an iced vanilla bean latte with oatmilk and it was pretty good, I probably should have gotten it a little bit sweeter but other than that it was great!
