Layla Bagels - Review - Beverly Hills - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"That’s right, even more carbs for Beverly Hills. Santa Monica darling Layla Bagels and their chewy, produce-topped bagels have expanded to a new location on Beverly Drive that looks a lot more spacious. The menu is pretty much the same, though, with open-faced bagels (and bagel sandwiches) topped with combinations like heirloom tomato and smoked salmon or fresh fruit and honey. We haven’t been here yet, but want you to know this spot exists." - Cathy Park

You do not need to order the whole, trust me when I say the half size is enough. The bagels taste great, fresh and chewy with a nice crunchy outside. The bagels come super duper topped with everything! Which honestly kinda annoyed the eating experience.. I understand it looks nice, but I feel I have to take a shower after eating.. Great options and delicious menu items!! Loved the hot sauce options.

Google
A great spot for delicious speciality coffee drinks and bagel sandwiches. I highly recommend The Scarlett. The bagels are light, the presentation is beautiful, and the food is a little messy so get plenty of napkins. This location in Beverly Hills has plenty of indoor and outdoor seating, and street parking.

This place is PACKED on Sundays morning. The interior looks cool, its noisy inside and sits are hard to find. I tried the Laika Half plain bagel. The portion was pretty small, everything was on a salty side and was falling off so you better get a fork and some napkins. The taste was good for a salmon and a cream cheese I guess Honestly I dont know what the hype is about. One And Done place to me. I think this is more a fancy breakfast and socializing type of thing than a having a great breakfast.

Google
Went on a Saturday morning— line was long, but it moved pretty quickly. It was also easy to find street parking. We got the LILY and the PRE-JAM. Both were delicious. Not a huge bagel person, but I’m turning into one now. They also have some cute merch. And place is dog-friendly.

Google
Absolutely loved my visit to Layla Bagel in LA! I had the Laika and it was amazing — perfectly balanced flavors with smoked salmon that was fresh and delicious. The bagel itself was top-notch, chewy and flavorful. Great vibes and super friendly staff too. Definitely coming back!

Google
Everything about this place was great. Their bagels (half or whole) are amazing. There is sometimes a line outside, but it moves really fast, and once you order, your bagels are out within minutes.

Jessica Gabriela

Google
Knowing they now have one more spot with sizable dine in space, HUGE YEAY! I somehow think they do have more attendants in this newly opened one, making it faster to be served and getting your order ready. My top 2 have always been their Laika - smoked salmon one for savory option, and Pre-jam - the one with fruits for sweet one. Either Jalapeno cheddar or everything bagel works for me. Not only gorgeous, both their savory and sweet bagels have always been slapping and they stay consistent. To my surprise, even their matcha made good companion to my bagel!

Joe’s Pizza

Google
Great staff with good vibes and attentive counter service. Busy but employees keep it spotless and clean. Good coffee. The bagel was good but didn’t blow me away. Still worth checking out as they have many bagel and coffee options to suite your taste.

Yelp
Wow! This is the rare place that totally lived up to the hype! .The gorgeous, Instagram-worthy food tastes just as good as it looks in the pictures. Layla specializes in sourdough bagels. They have both open-faced and closed faced bagel sandwiches. The open-faced sandwiches come in whole and half sizes. You can also buy the bagels by themselves. They have gluten free bagel options for those that want to know! Layla also offers freshly baked pastries, coffee and tea. I noticed that they now have a Layla Salad which sounds delicious. I have it on my list to order next time I want something lite instead of a bagel sandwich. I got the Lily bagel and the chocolate miso banana bread. The Lily bagel comes in whole or half sizes. I ordered the whole bagel because I was sharing it with other people and sharing a whole bagel is $1 cheaper than ordering 2 halves, so, why not? The Lily is a beautiful open-faced sandwich. It is vegetarian. It has tomato, cucumber, pickled onion, capers, and herbed cream cheese. The herbed cream cheese was really special. So smooth and melt in your mouth creamy with the added savoriness of the herbs. I also loved the saltiness of the capers, the juciness of the tomatoes, and the crunch of the pickled onions and cucumbers. The dill on top was so refreshing. All the veggies tasted picked off the farm fresh. You get to choose what kind of bagel you'd like on your sandwich. I chose the plain bagel. They serve it un-toasted unless requested which is how I like my bagels the first day. My dining partner also thought it was very tasty but wished the bagel was a little softer as they found it a bit too chewy. Admittedly, I did have a hard time cutting the half bagel in half to give my friend a taste. But overall, we were extremely satisfied with the gastronomic masterpiece. The chocolate miso banana bread was also perfection. It is a chocolate chip bread. I thought the addition of miso in this classic banana bread was an unusual and interesting combination. A very gourmet pairing. Miso is healthy but gives the sweet treat a salty kick you can feel good about. Genius! This bread tasted so freshly baked and the sweet and salty chocolate and miso combo was a winner in my book. Layla is open in the mornings and for lunch (current hours are 7am to 2:30pm). They have lots of individual tables and chairs as well as a communal table in the middle. It's very laid back. You can come here with friends but would also be very comfortable coming alone. I think they have many regulars as one man walking in when I was there was called by name and he declared Layla his "Cheers" (check out the theme song to this 80's TV show and you'll understand). Layla is located on the main stretch of South Beverly Drive and walking distance from a great many shops and eateries. This is the second location of the very popular bagel shop. The first location is in Santa Monica. There's metered parking nearby and a parking structure across the street by the newsstand.

Yelp
Meh. Too much going on on all these. We got 5 different specials and honestly 3 of them tasted the same. The one with tomato and lemon zest had way too much oil on it. And all of them sans the egg and cheese bagel had a bitter taste to it. I'm not a fan. Very overhyped by social media foodies with bad taste. ‍ Edit: Adam the manager is awesome and clearly stands by his product. Seems to maybe have been an off day. I'll check them out again.

Yelp
The first time I tried Layla's was at a catered brunch and I was not impressed. Bagels were hard to chew and had a weird texture. I had a much better experience going there directly, so either the brunch host ordered the gluten-free ones or they were stale. Ingredients are high quality - for example most bagel shops put a mealy slimy tomato, but they use heirloom. My go-to bagel order is lox with the works and their version (Laika) is great, but too salty. Love capers, pickled onions, and dill, but all 3 together are a bit overwhelming (and super messy to eat). Egg sammy with bacon was awesome, would definitely get this again. Cookie ($4) was also delish! Staff was friendly and moved quickly, though I wish they bussed the tables since we had to clean it ourselves.

Yelp
Waited in line here for a hot minute on New Year's Day but wow, worth the wait! Bagels are priced for whole or half, and half are $7-9 and the whole is double that. I had the classic one with Lox and it was so beautiful. It was delicious. Orange juice is $8 for a tiny cup so I had to pass. Metered street parking available outside.

Yelp
Known for their handcrafted sourdough bagels, full of flavors. Since we got there midway, tried The Bruce with jalapeño cheddar - tuna salad with avocado, arugula, tomato, and pickle frenso. They served their sandwiches open and close face, with option to mix the halfs. Their Matcha is amazing! It is Spacious with inside and outside seating. Staff is helpful, and the cashier took the time answering questions and explaining things. There may be a long line during the weekend and parking can be a little challenging.

Yelp
Such a cute bagel place in BH! If you come here especially on the weekends be prepared to stand in a super long line; the good news is it's definitely worth it. They had some great options for sweet and savory bagels. Great service and great food!

Yelp
I have always been a fan of Laylas bagels but unfortunately the new location didn't do it for me. It was definitely lacking something. This location is nice and clean plenty of indoor seating, the service was okay the girl helping us wasn't welcoming at all. However, the girl doing the drinks was so sweet and asked if it was our first time and asked if we tried their brown sugar cardamom latte which I excitedly said Yes and that I want it but she said they don't have it and that told us about their other seasonal drinks. It was weird to even bring it up cuz I loved that drink and wish it was around year around. Anyhow like I said the service was whatever. When we got our bagels they were very messy and it just didn't taste good. Bagels were super cold and not as soft. I personally love the Santa Monica location and definitely wasn't impressed. I ended up eating one half of a bagel and my friend ate one half too we weren't impressed and just the let the bagel go to waste unfortunately. I will stick to Santa Monica moving forward.

Yelp
Thank God that Layla opened a Beverly Hills location!!! It is a cute spot with ample indoor seating, unlike their Santa Monica location. They also have some benches and a table outside. It's very spacious and to my surprise, NO LINE!! If you've been to the SM spot, there is always at least a 20 min wait it seems, especially if you go at peak times. I ordered the special Valentine's Day bagel - a chocolate chocolate chip bagel, hazelnut spread, raspberries and honey. It was a BIT too rich for me... I couldn't finish it all. But I liked the theme! I also got their Pre Jam, which was Cara Cara oranges and blood oranges. I tried this same bagel at the SM location and honestly, it was better there, but it could've just been an off day. The staff was super friendly and I'm excited to go back!!

Yelp
I had heard SO much about Layla Bagels, so I decided I had to try it for myself. I went to the Beverly Hills location which is in a lovely, very walkable area. The cafe is really open and modern; it was perfect for breakfast on a sunny day. I noticed that the staff are really friendly and seemed to talk to many customers, which was so nice to see. We ordered the Lily and the Scarlett. I think out of the two, the Scarlett was my favorite. The heirloom tomatoes were beautifully ripe and perfectly salted. I loved the hint of spice with the chili flakes and the freshness of the lemon zest. The Lily was also delicious with tomato, cucumber, pickled onions, and capers. Surprisingly, I loved the toppings on both bagels more than the bagels themselves. I thought the bagels were a bit dry and dense. I think what really stood out about Layla Bagels was the fact that their toppings were clearly very fresh and high quality. I'd be interested in trying their pre-jam bagel next time!
google avatar

Christine S.

Yelp
Tried the open face bagels and got the Scarlett and the Pre-Jam. The Scarlett 6.5/10 - heirloom tomatoes with lemon zest, chili flakes and cream cheese. It had a lot of oil on top. The Pre-Jam 9/10 - loved this! I've never had fruit on a bagel before and they change it out seasonally. I had the pomegranate and kiwi, drizzled with honey. It was delicious. Very spacious with tables inside. I appreciate how quick the order comes out too. I should've asked for the bagels extra toasted, it was quite fluffy but not toasty enough for me! Compared to Courage bagels, I thought Courage was better with a stronger sourdough flavor, but I can't stand the line. This is worth a try if you've never been, but not sure I'd go out of my way to get it again!
google avatar

Jessica D.

Yelp
I'm not a huge bagel person but this place definitely changed my mind! I love how you can order half bagels too so you're able to mix and match. It was my first time and I've heard great things about The Laika bagel so of course I had to try it. This was hands down the best bagel I've ever tried! They are not stingy with their toppings or cream cheese! The pickled onions were definitely my favorite part. We also got a cookie which was as amazing as the bagel. Can't wait to come back!
google avatar

Rich T.

Yelp
Talk about experiencing a bagel on another level. This was delicious. The quality of the toppings and the how crisp the bagel was toasted was perfection. You haven't had a bagel without coming here. Come here and try the Laika
google avatar

Flora S.

Yelp
Was able to order "The pre-jam " bagel. This particular menu item is topped with seasonal fruits and this season included blood oranges which was really tasty. Wish the bagel was a little less tough but it was a nice balance of sweet and savory. I do think it's in the pricy side for the item at over $14 for this bagel.
google avatar

Rima Z.

Yelp
Nice little shop, modern, clean, airy. Cure merch and very sweet staff. Mind blowing bagels. Honestly. I have never had a bagel this crunchy. where I didn't have the urge to toast it before eating. Chewy without being too dense. We took a dozen to go and they were still crunchy when we got home. The banana bread was moist and flavorful. The cookies were just the right size for an after lunch treat. The double chocolate was the best of the bunch. Bagels. I'll be dreaming of these...
google avatar

Janine L.

Yelp
This is the BEST bagel i have ever tried! We got the laika and the sammis egg sammy on an everything bagel! All of the ingredients tasted so fresh and it was super filling. The laika can definitely get pretty messy when eating but it was so delicious. The interior is also super cute and aesthetic and they have sm cute merch as well! Would definitely come here again
google avatar

Olivia H.

Yelp
Came in Monday morning before work and there was no line. There's some good seating inside and I could see it being a cool place to do work. I got the Mia - also did a gluten free plain bagel and only a half. Love that they have these options! Got an iced matcha and a drip coffee as well. The GF bagel was delicious - it was perfectly toasted and chewy. The toppings were piled high and so fresh. Iced matcha was great but I think it was more the milk that made it good than the actual matcha. They have some cool merch and things to buy like olive oil, chili crunch, and hot sauce. Drip coffee was the only disappointment. There were a good amount of grounds in my cup so I wasn't able to drink it all. Would still come back for the bagels though!
google avatar

Nijole T.

Yelp
What a great addition to Beverly Hills! Not nearly as full as their Santa Monica location, this was a great opportunity to try their bagels. They are absolutely fantastic, great quality. I suggest buying a dozen and freezing them to slice and toast as needed. Very friendly and welcoming service, we enjoyed the desserts and coffee here as well.
google avatar

Andrew C.

Yelp
Wow! Who knew that a bagel could be so good! My bestie and I shared the Scarlett (savory) and the pre-jam (sweet) and both were incredibly delicious. The ingredients were super fresh, and the combinations and proportions of Fruit or Veggie, seasoning, cream cheese and bagel created perfect tastes and textures! I Can't wait to go back!!
google avatar

Madeline C.

Yelp
I finally tried Layla Bagels, and it was pretty good overall. The dishes showcased great quality and impressive craftsmanship. However, when comparing it to Courage's lox bagel and Boil & Bake in OC, I lean more toward the simplicity of Courage's and the generous toppings at Boil & Bake. Layla's lox was a bit fishy for my taste, which made it less enjoyable. On the other hand, the BEC had great flavor, and the hot sauce they provided really elevated the sandwich. That said, Layla's sandwiches felt less generous in terms of fillings compared to the other two. As for drinks, I prefer Courage's unsweetened almond milk matcha, as Layla's was too hot and lacked the vibrant green color. Overall, Layla is a solid spot but doesn't quite surpass the others for me.
google avatar

Annie H.

Yelp
First time at Layla bagels and honestly blew my mind!! I don't even like bagels or cream cheese but the smoked salmon and tomato with cream cheese paired so well with the soft and chewy bagels! I got the sesame and everything bagels and both were delicious. The line gets long but moves really quickly. Space at the Beverly Hills location is bright and airy and super cute! The oat milk latte was just ok. Definitely recommend for a casual girls brunch or date~
google avatar

Carl R.

Yelp
Presentation and food were great. The service was great. The lines were outrageous. But I guess that's what you get when something's pretty good.
google avatar

Misa O.

Yelp
Amazing ambiance and service. There was no line and a decent amount of parking out front. The ingredients were so fresh (especially the smoked salmon) and the herb cream cheese was delicious, but the bagel itself was a bit chewy. I'm not sure if that's normal but I was a bit disappointed after all the hype surrounding this place.

A H S.

Yelp
I think the bagel with salmon and veggies is fine. But this first visit to Layla's left me underwhelmed. The coffee handed to me was lukewarm and the babka muffin was so dry and tasteless, it made me sad to have spent the money on it. Not sure I will be returning. Feels overblown and so very pricey for what it offers and delivers.
google avatar

Julie V.

Yelp
The bagels at Layla were amazing! My sister and I visited specifically for their open-faced sandwiches. The lines were long, but they moved pretty quickly. We tried the Pre-Jam (sweet) and Laika (savory) bagels, and both were delicious! The balance of cream cheese and seasoning was just right. My favorite was the Laika, which had smoked salmon and fresh veggies. The Pre-Jam had seasonal fruits, and that day it was oranges.
google avatar

Irene A.

Yelp
Cute spot off Beverly drive, I had heard they get pretty busy so I ordered out via their website. My luck I accidentally ordered from their Santa Monica location instead, the staff were super nice about it, and took my order right away and said they were request a refund. They have a variety of sweet and savory bagels, and I got the Spicy BEC and Lily. Very delicious combinations, definitely will be coming back.
google avatar

Ronald P.

Yelp
Enjoying "The Bruce". In Baseball, hen you get a hit in your first at bat you go 1-for-1. Well Layla hit a homerun in their first at bat! I stopped in for a quick sandwich and this thing is awesome. Service is fast, food is fresh and the taste was awesome. Pleasantly surprised. Thank you Layla! Also, the Cafe de Olla was a nice touch in this cold weather. Will be back again
google avatar

Joey B.

Yelp
Just tried the New Layla Bagels on Beverly drive, excellent food but the mocha needed a bit more ganache. Aside from that superior breakfast spot!

Gee C.

Yelp
Food was amazing iced coffee yummy and worth it ! But better yet, the cashier lady with highlights was amazing and helpful ! Super efficient and great service!!
google avatar

Jerry O.

Yelp
Been going to the Santa Monica location since they opened a few years back. I was in the area and decided to try the Beverly Hills location. Not the same. I ordered a Scarlett and what I got was an extremely burned bagel, I'm talking black edges and completely black bottom. I didn't think to check before it I left bc I've never had a burned bagel at the Santa Monica location. Won't be back to this location.
google avatar

Doug S.

Yelp
The Santa Monica Ocean Park phenomenon of Layla's debuts in lucky Beverly Hills. In a sleek and welcoming new space, Layla's signature fabulous bagels and toppings are sure to be a huge hit as it expands eastward. Could Silverlake be next? Super friendly staff, efficient service, followed by a leisurely Everything bagel and a delicious latte...what could be better way to start the weekend?

Peg P.

Yelp
I've been to their other location many times, this was my first time at their Beverly location. Don't let the line fool you, it does go by pretty fast! I like how it's bigger and has more seating, the staff is always wonderful, however, it felt like the bagel sizes have SIGNIFICANTLY gotten smaller.

Tommy M.

Yelp
I dont know what i keep thinking about more The Scarlet or the cute barista with the round glasses
google avatar

Ramsey B.

Yelp
Oh my God that was sooo good. These bagels can bring peace to the Middle East. Spicy bacon egg bagel with jalapeños and an extra scoop!
google avatar

Lori G.

Yelp
Delish!!!! I was skeptical, but 100% hands down an amazing bagel and gut healthy being sourdough! Try for yourself. xx

Kathy C.

Yelp
We were so excited to have a new bagel shop close by us, But the experience was not great, Bagels had no taste and the tuna that was supposed to be white meat tuna only ( Which I ask over and over to make sure it was white meat tuna ) and not dark meat, Was dark meat and just wasn't good. Also the person taking the order was very impatience with me, Anyway just wasn't to my liking :(
google avatar

Pam T.

Yelp
LOVE Layla's Bagels! So glad they opened a new location! We'll be here all the time. So delicious!
google avatar

Lina A.

Yelp
I'm not sure what it is but the Laika tastes better at the Santa Monica location. It tastes like they're forgetting a seasoning or something. Also they're so cheap with the smoked salmon. Like it's one thin layer of salmon. For a $17 dollar bagel I expected to get more for my money.

Eats222 B.

Yelp
Great bagels with very fresh ingredients. Went on a weekday and there was no line, service was quick.

Sam H.

Yelp
Another grand slam for the Layla crew. Terrific food, service, location. #1 bagel in LA.

Chloe V.

Yelp
Best bagel in LA! You can do half orders of bagels that aren't considered a sandwich. My usual order is a half Scarlett (heirloom tomato, lemon zest, chili flakes, cream cheese) and a half Laika (lox, tomato, cucumber, pickled onions, capers, herb cream cheese) SO GOOD. They also do a sweet bagel called the pre-jam which is topped with seasonal fruit, honey, and cream cheese. There is also a vegan cream cheese option and different types of bagels to choose from. Highly recommend !
google avatar

Haley D.

Yelp
This place rocks. The bagels are the best in town. Thank God they're opening a Beverly Hills location... can't wait to go here every day.

Rick K.

Yelp
This is not just a great bagel shop, rather it's a great dining experience that happens to serve incredibly imaginative and delicious food that starts with a bagel!!

Michael A.

Yelp
I came back here after horrible service the first time. I ordered everything bagel with herb cream cheese on the side and an egg sandwich for my wife. I come home and see there is no herb cream cheese on the side. They charged me for it, but there's no herb cream cheese on the side. Of course they don't provide a phone number to call either because they're scared of getting all these complaints from people.

Frances B.

Yelp
I was so excited to try the new Laylas in Beverly Hills. Got the Scarlett and the Mia. And six bagels. I heard The Scarlet was yummy but left off the zest and chili flakes. My Mia would have been better had they mashed the avocado instead of sliced it, as it kept coming off the bagel when trying to eat it. I loved the pickled onions but way too much pickled Fresno. The bagels were a bit of a disappointment. I wouldn't get bagels to eat the next morning as they were all too hard to eat. If you toasted them they became inedible as they were way too crunchy and hard. I think they were over cooked to begin with. Get your day of bagels at Layla and go down the street to Beverly Hills Bagels if you want to eat them the next day or for catering later in the day.

Matt M.

Yelp
Layla is already a huge improvement over what was previously here: an extremely disgusting Umami Burger ghost kitchen. I got the Spicy BEC, which was quite good. I was worried it was gonna be "spicy" in a frou frou kind of way, so I was pleased when I got a big, unapologetic, blue collar hit of heat. Apparently, the chef is a Hell's Kitchen runner up so the food is executed pretty well. The store is well-lit, minimalist and clean which is a big improvement over the dark, tacky looking Umami Burger which felt like I was in some kind of lapdancing club.

SamtheMan7601 ..

Yelp
The bagels here are fantastic, I don't think you can go wrong ordering anything. My favorite is the Laika. The coffee is just as good!

Tina Y.

Yelp
Best bagels and best service!!! Also great atmosphere! Love it here and really recommend!

Mike B.

Yelp
More roll than bagel. Nice enough staff but bagel lovers who know what bagels are will be disappointed.

Kassidy M.

Yelp
It's really good but I wish they had whole wheat. Multigrain or pumpernickel or something healthier long those lines. But great service and love the ambiance
