Le Bon Temps Roule - Review - Uptown - New Orleans - The Infatuation

"After you get out of a show at Tipitina’s, walk up to Le Bon Temps Roule to play some pool, catch another show, or just drink until morning. This dive doesn’t close, ever, and is always filled with locals at any hour of the day, so regardless of when you need a shot or a beer, or if you just want to ask someone in the know what “lagniappe” means, come here." - Team Infatuation

We saw The Soul Rebels play a fantastic set here. The drinks were solid and the music pumping. I’ll be recommending Le Bon Temps Roule to everyone - especially if The Soul Rebels are playing! The $20 cover was worth it.

Le Bon Temps Roule Layout/atmosphere *Two pool tables; three TVs; video poker; patio area; live music; 24 hours Food/drink *Roule Burger (pepper sauce, grilled onion, bacon, pepper jack cheese) with fries - Good; patty seasoned, cooked well; fries little on the saltier side but preferred over having not enough salt

You won't find a better location to hear live music in New Orleans. We were at The Soul Rebels gig last night, and the immediacy of hearing them in this intimate setting was fantastic. I will definitely be back next time I'm here!

Ashley was an amazing hostess. She went out of her way to give us details about local eateries and places to visit after we had amazing food here. Definitely would recommend stopping in.

My husband and I met here ten years ago - a classic fun New Orleans bar, which we visited often for drinks and shows. The staff was very happy to let us take some pre-wedding photos inside and out of the bar and I promised to share one with a review :) Thanks for the memories!

We came to see The New Cahoots play here during Nolaxnola and they were awesome! We also had some delicious wings and beers. The bartender was super nice and we played a game of pool. I really like this place! Check out my full review on Youtube: How to live like a local in New Orleans Parks Bowman Haunted House - Halloween Ghost Music Art Food

Google
I am beyond tired of all the physical altercations that take place at this bar, man. June 8th, 2025, 5:30-6AM ish they had a fight that full-on escalated to a guy brandishing a gun and an attempted stabbing. This is not the first something violent has broken out and I doubt it will be the last.

Yelp
Had a day date with myself and was uptown already when suddenly it was lunchtime. (I eat late, the kitchen opens at 4pm.) I got the bleu cheese and bacon burger for a very reasonable price. Bartender was friendly, as all the patrons and even got to pet a dog, lol. One of those spots that remains the same despite all the changes that occur in New Orleans, and I like that.

Yelp
This was my fav place we found in NOLA! Tried it cause of the reviews and man... soo glad we did!! They are open 24 hours which is amazing in itself. Our bartender was sooo nice and funny!! We got the spinach dip and both got burgers. We BOTH felt like they were the best burgers we've EVER had!!! Wow!!!!!!!!! I had the pimento cheese and my friend had the black and bleu. Soooo good!!! They do a football pool every week where you can win $$. Fun to see such a local following. LOVED this place! We wished we found it the first night so we could have came back again!

Yelp
I go to Le Bon Temps often and they have some good music. They also have FREE oysters on Fridays but they go quick so you need to get there early! They have a kitchen that serves food and they have some good burgers here. The bar is divided into 2 main areas with the front being full of pool tables and the back where the bands play. This is usually a really fun bar to watch music until the point that it gets too crowded, which is way too often, but you always have the front area of the bar to escape to. The back area, where the bands play, can just get miserably crowded especially on Thursday nights when bands like the Soul Rebels play (it also is a bad "tradition" that the Soul Rebels NEVER start on time so it is like 12:30 or 1am before they start usually so if you have to work the next day that really is a challenge). There are also some people that take their pool games WAY too seriously in here and I've seen a few fights break out over a stupid game so don't get in those folks way. Parking can sometimes be a bit of a challenge but if you get far enough away you can always find a spot. They usually have pretty quick bar service and I usually prefer the front bar when there is music as it is quicker to get served than fighting the often formidable crowd in the back. There is always an interesting crowd here and there is a special plaque on the bar involving a historical person that I will let you discover yourself (maybe further down in this review even). There always seems to be something going on here when it seems nothing else is anywhere else in the area. Overall this is one of the best classic dive bars and music venues in the entire New Orleans area. FYI: This is yet another of the bars that claims the notoriety of having had Lee Harvey Oswald as a frequent customer. You can go to YouTube and search for NOLA Gent to see my video on Le Bon Temps Roule!

Yelp
One of my favorite dive bars in Nawlins. Open 24 hours!! Very diverse crowd, all ages, all types. Super chill if you're chill. Currently home to the infamous Soul Rebels Band on Thursdays when they're not on the road. Back bar ( where the small stage is) opens up late when there is a gig. Great selection of beers and spirits at very fair prices. Pool tables; Jukebox, kitschy decor. The place defines "the dive bar" in a city with great dive bars. Love the place

Yelp
We just happened upon this place while on a walk. It looked pretty cool on the outside, was nice and divey inside, with that slight smell of last night's spilled beer wafting about. It's an older building with lots of historic charm, a very energetic but laid back vibe from the bartenders, and a nice beer selection. They also have a cigarette machine, something I haven't seen in quite a while. Not busy in the afternoon, but I was told it gets very busy at night. No surprise.

Long Gone G.

Yelp
It's 60° inside the bar and I can see my breath..the bartender (who is wonderful by the way..Joseph his name be..) says he can't control the AC only the owner can...multiple people have left due to the ignorant practices of ownership not allowing thier bartenders to control the climate and having folks SHIVERING their way out of the bar...very poor practices.

Yelp
Outstanding bar. Food is pretty good - you might feel a little sketchy trying it but don't worry, its good. Drinks are solid and service is amazing considering how busy this place can get and the drunks they deal with. Top class bartenders, always watching for customers and taking care of you. Now, if you come to this fine estalishment, then you know of their live music. If leave New Orleans without seeing Soul Rebels, you really didn't come to New Orleans. The area they play music is separate from the main bar. They do have a bar in the music area as well. The music area can get packed but I never felt crammed in. Highly recommend.

Yelp
It's a great neighborhood bar with excellent music. Bartenders are generally fast and attentive. Shows seldom start on time, but are worth waiting for!

Yelp
Coolest bar there is around good ole Tchoup, stayed in an Airbnb about a 10 minute walk from here, drinks were nice and cheap, Morgan the bartender was really sweet and friendly, really hot too, I could probably talk to her all day. And the fact that it's 24/7 is also pretty cool. Never had the experience to be stumbling home at 6AM before until now . Definitely coming back next time I'm here in New Orleans.

Yelp
Fun local bar with a great bartender. Definitely a local crowd and the mix made it fun. Went in for the t-shirt, but stayed to get our drink on. Unfortunately, they didn't have any men's shirts, which gives us a reason to go back again someday.

Yelp
Ordered classic burger, delicious! Great atmosphere, service, and people. Will be returning on my next trip to New Orleans.

Yelp
Not your average Thursday --but maybe so, in NOLA. The Bloody Mary was TO DIE FOR. Nachos were loaded. Local crowd. Great music by Soul Rebels.

Yelp
(Verse 1) Angry chef, angry chef, Cookin' up a storm, what the heck? He's got a spatula and a pan, Making meals that'll shock and jam. (Chorus) Angry chef, angry chef, Cookin' up a feast, don't you forget. The band started late, but we don't mind, With angry chef, we're gonna dine. (Verse 2) The kitchen's hot, the flames are high, But the angry chef won't bat an eye. He's got a recipe that's outta sight, With spices that'll make you take flight. (Chorus) Angry chef, angry chef, Cookin' up a feast, don't you forget. The band started late, but we don't mind, With angry chef, we're gonna dine. (Bridge) He's got a temper, that's for sure, But when it comes to cooking, he's pure. He's got a style that's all his own, With flavors that'll make you moan. (Chorus) Angry chef, angry chef, Cookin' up a feast, don't you forget. The band started late, but we don't mind, With angry chef, we're gonna dine. (Outro) So if you're hungry and want a bite, Come on down, it's gonna be all right. With angry chef, you can't go wrong, Just don't make him wait too long.

Yelp
Always a fun time when we go and the live music never disappoints. The bartenders are friendly and fast with the drinks. The atmosphere is fun and the dive bar feel is on point.

Yelp
We love this little dive bar located on Magazine across from the delicious Tal's Hummus restaurant. The bartenders are all do friendly and the bar attracts locals and friendly tourists so there's always someone wanting to join in on a chat. They carry Blanton's whiskey! Score! You can play pool here too and of course there's a fun jukebox. We haven't tried their tamales but they look delicious!
google avatar

Yelp
Great place to catch a great band. We saw The Soul Rebels and the show did not disappoint. It is a Cozy little venue and the cover charge is more then reasonable. Lots of old rich White males but besides that super fun venue.

Yelp
Best place we could have went to on our first night in NOLA. Luckily I was with a Loyola grad who knew the hot spots in town. We went to see one of her favorite bands on a Thursday night. We got there early before the band went on. The back was sort of empty besides my huge group and a few others. I questioned what the fuss was and why we had to get here so early... then wouldn't you know 20 minutes later the place was SOOO packed ready for the band. We got a couple stiff drinks which were sooooo cheap compared to my regular Chicago spots. Love that for me. The live music and entire experience in this one bar made me fall in love with New Orleans 12 hours since landing in the city. It was unreal! Forget a DJ- live music is the way to go. A band member was walking through the crowd with a trombone and was literally playing a song over my head LOL. Bring cash to tip the band!!!

Yelp
Le Bon Temps Roule is definitely a locals dive bar! I ended up coming here by default last weekend while waiting to eat brunch at Surrey's Uptown that's right next door. Apparently this place gets a lot of foot traffic in the same scenario that I was in because the wait times for brunch are generally long and they don't have enough space for people to wait. Go grab a drink at Le Bon Temps Roule we were told and that we did. I love how friendly the bartenders were that were working on the particular day that we ended up visiting. Great prices on drinks and friendly service?! What else can you ask of a bar. While enjoying drinks they have a fancy juke box you can work to dish out some oldies or even the latest jams! My friends and I played a round of pool too so that of course enhanced the overall experience. Would I ever come back?! Sure!

Yelp
I am so blessed to have found this gem through yelp for my NOLA trip!! Super nice people in this bar and bartender! We arrived around 6:50pm in hope to have some free oysters and they were served at exactly 7pm! Boy, free and delicious oysters! I don't think I can find a better deal anywhere else. Some people were so into pool and one guy from Atlanta was so great he finished the game in 2-4 turns! A pianist started applying shortly after and my god, the room was filled with happy music as people enjoy the free oysters and cheap drinks! $5.5 Jameson shots, c'mon! Can't express how much I love this place! Definitely a must visit!

Yelp
A neighborhood dive. Perfectly serviceable spot for a low-key drink and some pool and the bartender was fine. Could see it being a nice hangout for those who live in the area. But some of the patrons are total assh*ts. Came in a couple of nights after Christmas later on at night and the place was pretty dead save for a few Brooklyn hipster transplants who were giving us dirty looks and generally being rude. I get it, we're not from the area, but they obviously weren't either so I'm not sure what their attitude was about. No NOLA local has ever been rude to me like that, so I'm going to assume that like another reviewer astutely pointed out, it was a just a case of "transplanted, passive-aggressive suburban angst."
google avatar

Julianna T.

Yelp
Would give it more stars bc I actually like the place. We've been 3 times in just the last 2 weeks. The bald guy tho? Is he an owner? Didn't seem like it. Very aggressive. We won't be back bc he was so rude and made us uncomfortable. We are service industry and don't like being bullied by a fellow patron. Dude was an asshat.
google avatar

Christopher W.

Yelp
Came here on a dive run one night and was surprised that the place actually isn't a dive. The location is more music venue than bar with ample dancing area and two bars. The beer here is definitely not dive prices or selection but for what it is its good. Definitely recommend as a music venue though for a bar it can be quite busy and loud.
google avatar

Steve W.

Yelp
Pretty neat dive bar in the middle of the garden district. Always filled with locals and have pretty cheap prices on all drinks. I'm not a fan of Dogs in bars, but they allow it here. They have Touch Tunes for the music with all the songs to choose from. I like coming here during the week. Wednesday's are pool leagues by the way so it's a lil crowded at times.
google avatar

Aran D.

Yelp
I was there that fateful night...when the Vikings crushed our super bowl hopes. Terrible night...but honestly not a bad place to be for it! Camaraderie abounds! I don't usually come here cuz the outside benches usually house a clientele that's a little crustier than those I usually rub elbows with...but who am I kidding? It's New Orleans! We all kinda rough around the edges. Thursday nights: soul rebels (or sometimes brassaholics) Friday nights: oysters Game days: a glimmering tv in every corner and a friendly, if disappointed, face on every bar stool
google avatar

Evan P.

Yelp
This place is a must for anyone in town! Definitely popular with the locals and hopefully you are fortunate enough to have one show you around or to stumble in here during one of the live music performances. At first glance, Le Bon Temps is unassuming, with a standard bar and a few pool tables. The back room is where the music and magic happens. The staff adds to the atmosphere by being super friendly, outgoing, and ensuring you have a good time. The crowd gets into the show, which is often an intimate setting where you can certainly see, hear, and feel the energy. Don't be surprised if the band dances through the crowd or invites your group on stage. If you are lucky enough, try to catch a show with the Soul Rebels, as they will blow your mind! Drinks are inexpensive, atmosphere was great (although we were called out for not being locals), and you definitely get a neighborhood feel. It's worth heading off of the beaten path for this place!

Yelp
New Kichen Crew. Delicious Hamburgers and other Sandwiches. Try them next time you are there.

Yelp
Literally the BEST Bloody Mary ever! Great dive spot for pool playing and super chill staff. They are pupper friendly! Also a great spot to watch the uptown parades during Mardi Gras. And if you're hungry, pop in next door and YES you CAN bring your mimosa/Bloody Mary in Surrey's while you eat! The harmony of Le Bon Temps and Surrey's is truly a match made in heaven.
google avatar

Yelp
The things I'd do to quit my job, become a gypsy, grow a beard and groupie along side the Soul Rebels at Le Bon Temps.... I really think this was one of the most unexpectedly amazing nights of my life - I love a good dive bar, and this bar dives so deep, well beyond the swamp 'gators and crawfish - so deep it's knocking on hell's door. The toilet is missing and replaced by a bucket, there are more neon lights than functioning ones and the floor doesn't work. The back room is so tiny your ears will be ringing for days from the roar of the French horns - but it's all worth it. It's an experience like no other - it's 300 years of bayou heat, creole spiced and smeared all over the flooded walls - this bar for me is the heart and soul of New Orleans, and I wish it was my gypsy home.

Yelp
Came here on a Saturday afternoon. Great service, friendly environment, strong drinks. Great choice! Angie is a great bartender and delivers the best shots! Thank!

Yelp
My fiance and I are Northshore folks. We'll be moving to the city after the spring now we have new work opportunities. This place actually holds a significant place in our story. I've been in rock-n-roll bands for most of my life. That made me very familiar with escaping the mundane world of Northshore life in the city. I had spent many rock-n-roll nights in this joint well past 3 a.m. and brought my new lady there one night. When bands play the back room there is incredible energy. There's no stage, just a floor and the band plays right in front of your face. When I brought my fiance, Dave Jordan & the NIA was tearing it up to a intimate raucous crowd. She had never experienced that before, and that's when she knew she was in love with me. She knew that this atmosphere was the life for both of us. This room holds power.
google avatar

Yelp
Don't even think you'll avoid day drinking here. We landed at Le Bon Temps the afternoon after Christmas Day with the best intentions (bloodies!) and immediately received a free shot and a Merry Christmas from the awesome bartendress. And then there was Mary. I watched as the bartendress dressed her up like a spicy lil tomato on dollar day. Never before had I witnessed such primping and flair! My Bloody Mary arrived decorated with no less than five different kinds of garnish: olives, celery, okra, green beans, lemon/lime and I'm sure I'm forgetting something. Talk about exceeding ones daily recommended servings of vegetables! Ah, nutrition New Orleans-style. I suppose one might thoughtlessly call Les Bon Temps a "dive bar" but that would be kinda lazy. It's so much more! Besides, I daresay that in New Orleans there are no mere "dive bars" as you know 'em. I'm going to think on this one because it deserves a new classification.

Yelp
I can't believe I have never visited this historic neighborhood dive before. I have driven past this establishment an untold number of times on my way to much worse places. Why someone didn't tell me about this bar is beyond me. Maybe I need better friends. Le Bon Ton is historic. You can sit at the bar where Lee Harvey Oswald sat when he lived just a few blocks away. Hopefully you don't turn into a communist and become haunted by visions of Carcano Model 91/38 rifles, but you get the point. Bars with crazy history are cool. The bartenders here are awesome. In particular, Todd was great. He made sure our drinks were never empty, and he was a great conversationalist. In this time of mixolgy being so popular, it is nice to know there are still real bartenders left around. I don't care if you can peel a potato and distill it into vodka. The true test of a bartender is if they can pour me the perfect draft and laugh at my dumb jokes. There is live music in the rear of this bar, but I suggest staying up front, sitting at the historic marker, and drinking beer. If you do and don't have fun, there is something wrong with you.
google avatar

Maggie B.

Yelp
Fun little "dive" bar right by where my cousins wedding was. The drinks were good and cheap, and they had a good selection of beer on tap. There was a pool table and a back area for music which was really cool. Only one stall for the ladies room though, so be prepared to wait!
google avatar

Alessandra B.

Yelp
The rudest bouncer and bartender I have ever come across. It was a mardi gras night and clients were trying to enter and the bouncer yelled at a girl because she didn't show her wrist quickly enough for him to stamp it. He then yelled that if he sounded angry, he was, because he had been working 14 days in a row. The bartender then made a client cry because the girl didn't know what making a vodka and cranberry "well", so the bartender started yelling that she wanted to see the client's ID (the client was 30 years old, just not well versed in alcohol). Don't give this place your money if you can help it.

Yelp
I had my first gig with my band Gravy Flavored Kisses (feel free to look us up: www.gravyflavoredkisses.com or look for Gravy Flavored Kisses on Facebook) here last night. I had such a great night. Let me just tell you that I came home at 7 am. I should be able to leave it at that, right? :) Anyway, this place was the perfect venue for a first gig. It's a very intimate setting with a rather small stage, which resulted in me and the other vocalist standing in front of the stage at the same level as the audience. I have been a stage performer since the age of 3 and I love interacting with the audience. Of course, I was a tad bit nervous last night since it was my first time performing with these guys and I was afraid of forgetting lyrics that I've learned in the past three weeks, so I stayed in my spot most of the duration of the show, but I'll be less shy next time! The bartender was super friendly and either actually enjoyed our music a lot or at least made us think so. As for the patrons, there is such an interesting mix of people that gather at Bon Temps. Also, they're open super late. We stumbled back in here before going home at 6 something am and they were definitely still goin.

Yelp
I like to find a good neighborhood bar when I get off work. I would go to La Bon Temps often, but they recently added string lights that are too bright. So guy please remove the lights so I can come back !
google avatar

Matt C.

Yelp
Live music dance-floor in the back, pool tables juke box in the front. Cheap drinks, good bartender service... Locals spot. Place gives off a good vibe. Gets real crowded, then it dies off, then it gets crowded again. This is a cool place to go to get away from your typical tourist traps in the FQ. Old school.
google avatar

Katie A.

Yelp
Le Bon Ton is one of my favorite places to see music in NOLA. I may be biased towards far-Uptown places since I live in the Black Pearl, but their lineup also helps their cause. I love seeing the Soul Rebels here since it's like their "home" bar (a la Rebirth with the Maple Leaf), and they put on a great show every time. As far as crowds go, this one tends to be pretty great: It's a small and intimate space, so you'll be bumping into friends and strangers alike; and people do tend to actually dance here rather than just stand around and take pictures, so it's a lot more fun. This is also a great place to just grab a drink or four and socialize, or watch whatever sport is on TV (I believe I've also seen random movies on here, but that can be neither confirmed nor denied by clear memories since it was closer to that four-drink point of the night). Bartenders have always been friendly here. There's also one lady bartender who is basically the only real-life chick who's made me question my sexuality. Bars in the front and back make it easy to fill 'er up, woo woo! I highly recommend this place for any type of experience, but most especially for a little local flavor!
google avatar

Jen L.

Yelp
Bon Temps goes down a star for me since they closed their kitchen. The band space is "intimate" so that can be amazing or awful depending on the band. And maybe the crowd has changed or maybe I have, but this is no longer a place that I am comfortable hanging out for hours on end. *I have been informed that their kitchen is open randomly...OK that's odd.
google avatar

Jennifer F.

Yelp
Yes, it's an institution. Yes, the drinks are cheap. Yes, the music is good. HOWEVER, they let in far more people than can possibly fit on the floor to watch the music. It was literally wall-to-wall with people. You couldn't raise your arm to drink your beer. People were playing grab ass. The woman's restroom is partway into the super crowded room and sometimes a random guy tries to follow you into the restroom because he has no idea what's going on.
google avatar

Roxanne C.

Yelp
This is the place to let the good times roll! It is a character in and of itself. It took me a couple of times coming here to realize that there is live music in the back room! So don't be like me and confine yourself to the front bar. Go exploring, and you'll discover an amazing local band! It's also affordable, and if you're into playing pool and meeting people, this is the place to go!
google avatar

Josh M.

Yelp
My NoLa go to. No trip is complete without a stop here. You can start the drinking early. Good music. Good people. Good times. Can I be any more cheesy? It doesn't matter. Go here. Have fun. You are welcome.

Yelp
What sort of dive bar serves incredible craft beer, Belgian ales, excellent liquors, has pool tables, creatures coming our of the ceiling, and some of the best live music in NoLa? Le Bon Temps Roule. This has to be the ultimate of ultimate dive bars. It is a dive and yet it isn't. It has the atmosphere of a true neighborhood joint (and far away from the tourist traps of the French Quarter), yet serves some of the best drinks around, as well providing its patrons with some exceptionally good live music. The space itself is something to experience with sculptures that come out of the ceiling!!! See my photo if you're curious. And perhaps in a great nod to what kind of city NoLa is, they're open 24 hours a day. So, you can get your drink on in this amazing place whenever you want!!!! If you're in the area it is not to be missed!!!!!! Let the good times roll indeed!!!!!

Yelp
Cool dive bar, a guy was jamming on the piano. They have a great beer selection and the bartender was very friendly and helpful.

Yelp
Conveniently located next to Surrey's, which is BYOB. They make a kick ass Bloody Mary and the day bartender is quite accommodating on random Fridays to help you get over massive hangovers acquired during raucous Thursday evenings on Frenchmen. I get the feeling it's a pretty great place to be during Mardi Gras or St. Patty's too, being smack dab in the middle of Magazine and all. Check it out!
