Yelp
TL;DR is out of several of the lesser-expensive wines and tries to upsell to expensive ones (whether or not this is on purpose), service is very so-so, though the ambiance is gorgeous, and the filet is pretty delicious.
I went with a group of 3 others while on a weekend visit from NYC to Montreal. We went near the mid-to-end of prime dinner time around 7:45pm on a Saturday evening.
The ambiance is beautiful, as the interior is nice and dark while having warm lighting, is wood and metal, and overlooks the parkway / street. Not really a bad seat in the house, as far as I'm concerned.
We were one of 5 or 6 tables in, so it wasn't terribly crowded by any stretch. It took the server a while to make it over, but when she did, we made our intent known to order #1-Wine (~$60), and asked if we could taste it to be sure which she kindly accepted. We tasted it and it was great, so we ordered it. Server was gone for a few minutes, and when she came back, she said they were out, and was there something else we wanted. We selected #2-Wine (~$60), and asked if we could taste it first to be sure, which our server kindly accepted. Server was gone for quite a while, and when she returned she had a bottle with her. However, when she approached our table, she said they were out of our second choice as well, but "hey we have this other delicious #3-Wine and would we like it instead?" We asked if it was comparable in price, and as she was almost already in process of opening the bottle she said it was ~$120 (almost double the price of the other two we selected. It's disappointing we even had to ask, but thank god we did and stopped her before she opened it. We (as politely and sheepishly as possible) asked if there was something that could be done to meet in the middle, price-wise, since they were out of the first two selections we'd attempted to order, and our server didn't exactly scoff, per se, but she very blankly said "no, we won't do that", and then stood there. We ended up being put in a mildly embarrassing position of needing to express that the $120 was too expensive for our wine desires for the evening and we would need more time to figure out a 3rd wine selection in our price range. To be clear, whether $60 or $120, bottles of wine at restaurants are so egregiously marked up that we only budget for ourselves a certain amount for wine, and would rather spend generously on the FOOD and TIP.
Flash forward to after we'd selected our 3rd place wine choice, we ordered our food and hung out, while I sipped a margarita which was indeed rather good.
Three of us had the filet, medium rare, which was delicious. Our fourth had the duck breast, which he said he enjoyed as well.
Definitely a nice / beautiful spot to bring a date or something, and HIGHLY recommended if you're a filet fan, but otherwise, it's nothing special for wine or service -- not to say that's reason to stay away, because it's not.
