"For Joël Robuchon, ‘emperor of French cuisine’, this eponymous restaurant is the jewel in the crown of the company. Kenichiro Sekiya, recipient of the prestigious Meilleurs Ouvriers de France (MOF) and heir to both the spirit and cuisine of his famous mentor, uses Japanese ingredients to breathe new life into French gastronomy. His interpretation of Le Caviar Imperial evolves from generation to generation. Even the trolley service is the pinnacle of luxury. A table of magnificence as befits the hall of the emperor." - Michelin Inspector

Tucked into the first floor of the NEWoMAN complex at JR Shinjuku Miraina Tower (4-1-6 Shinjuku, Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo 160-0022), this elegant little bakery is a perfect escape from the rush of the station above. We wandered through the shops waiting for the downpour to ease, still warm from our coffee and tea at Blue Bottle. Just as we were about to call it a day, the buttery scent drifting from Robuchon’s display case stopped us in our tracks. The pastries looked almost too perfect to eat—and tasted every bit as good as they looked. Funny how being a little tired and rain-soaked can steer your decisions. We went for an egg-salad sandwich on a pillowy, slightly sweet bun that reminded us of a hot-dog roll. It was simple, comforting, and easy to eat—exactly the kind of thing you could carry through a quiet garden and enjoy one unhurried bite at a time. Next came what I thought was a brie-filled pastry. Surprise—it turned out to be a cloud-light, subtly sweet cream instead. My husband loved it, and I had to admit it was a lovely twist. Our final pick was the showstopper: an adorable acorn-shaped pastry filled with rich, nutty chocolate cream. Almost too cute to eat—but of course, we did. One small curiosity: they charge a few yen for takeaway bags, something we hadn’t encountered at any other bakery. Hardly an issue, just a tiny cultural quirk that somehow made the experience feel even more distinctly Tokyo.

We got 3 pastries / breads from Le Pain De Joel Robuchon which is located across the Cafe for our breakfast next morning. I love the butter croissant very much since I think it is the best I have tried so far in my life. Total costs was only ¥ 930, which is quite good value for money compared to what I usually pay in Sydney, Australia especially considering the very good quality. The bread shop is not big, but has quite good collection that you can try and enjoy for breakfast or snacks. You can pay with V/MC payment cards so very recommended for international visitors who visit / stay in Shinjuku area.

This coffee shop in the middle of Shinjuku is a popular place to take a break. I ordered a café latte for 500 yen, along with some other bread. The coffee is a small size, similar to a kid’s size in the U.S., and it's quite pricey. If I had a choice, I wouldn’t come to this shop; I would recommend go some where others instead. It seems more suited for tourists or older people looking to relax.

Singapore has no such cafe and its restaurant has closed. Curious and bought a few bread over 2 days. All choices were delicious good quality despite eating them not heated in hotel as breakfast or snack. Also dine in at its cafe right opposite where they could heat up the pastry and get hot drinks

I bought for take out 4 kinds of bread: raisin walnut bread- was absolutely wonderful and is the reason for the 4 stars. Canpagne (sourdough) was not that good, crust was a bit rubbery. Raisin bread (round shape) was nice. Mini baguettes filled with cream - also nice. Overall good products and great variety.

I bought a plain croissant and was impressed! Thin layers, flaky crust, tender inside, good butter flavor. A must-snack if in the area. (Note: Don’t walk while eating in Japan. They don’t approve of that. Take a seat or stand still somewhere while eating.)

Delicious fresh buns, that are especially exceptional fresh first thing when they open. Came here multiple times with my partner for breakfast and got the matcha from matcha tokyo in the same complex after to kickstart our mornings. Definitely powered our days full of walking and exploration. The signature custard brioche is amazing. Slightly dense, not overtly sweet, moist.
