The 20 Best Restaurants In Chinatown - London - The Infatuation

"There’s often a queue for Leong’s Legend in the evenings but each time we’ve been, it’s been absolutely worth it. The Taiwanese dishes are more interesting than your typical Chinatown joint, and there’s something for everyone. The menu jumps around a lot but you should definitely get the soup dumplings and stir-fried green beans with pork, and the whole crab that comes smothered in garlic and chilli. And the hot pot is a great way to spend a laid-back evening with friends." - Team Infatuation

Where to Eat Offal in London | Eater London

"Restaurateur Geoff Leong’s most celebrated Chinatown site: Leong’s Legend serves an extensive menu with plenty of nods to Taiwanese cooking. Various seafood dishes are available, while the restaurant’s xiao long bao are some of London’s best. A trough of hotpot, on the other hand, is a true celebration of the pig: a melange of pork belly, slivers of blood cake and chopped intestines bathe in unctuous, fat-enriched broth that’s bolstered by fistfuls of Sichuan peppercorns." - Jonathan Hatchman

Such amazing dumplings. We went for bottomless dumplings and feel like we got a bargain. Get to order 3 things per person for first round, 2 things per person for second round and the 1 thing each there after. All the food was amazing. Particular favours being the shrimp puffs and the prawn rolls. Very quick service for first two rounds. Little harder to grab a member of staff after that - although it did get quite busy whilst there. Friendly staff. Nice atmosphere. Each portion size was actually quite big which we were impressed with. Also got a yummy mango juice. Highly recommend for dumping fans. Also got some chicken fried rice and noodles which were also both delicious (and included in the deal). Bought the times voucher before hand. Otherwise just paid for an additional Coke and service charge.

I went here last night with my son and his friend. From the time we entered and were seated, the staff were friendly and attentive; giving us plenty of time to review the menu, order drinks, and decide what we wanted. The food was scrumptious; from the seasoning to the taste. We ordered dim sum, vegetable egg rolls, gyoza/potstickers/dumplings, egg fried rice, sweet & sour chicken, and more. The portion sizes were adequate and I was so stuffed that I took home leftovers. The lovely lady who took our order and served us took the best care of us. I truly appreciate her gentle kindness and warmth. She even offered us hot tea after we paid so me and my party could finish our conversation. She encouraged us to return soon and I already know I will because this is now my favorite spot for any Asian cuisine. Great food, exceptional service: 10/10 stars

Google
Fine. The food was nice. Soup dumplings were one of the better ones I've had - loads of flavour and a good portion size. The boiled beef wasn't as tender as I've had at other restaurants but it was tasty and it kept well (took some home for leftovers the next day.)

Google
Absolutely positively delicious! The service is so warm and inviting. Believe me you don’t want to miss trying this restaurant, so delightfully. Try: spicy pork xiaolongbaos, spicy duck dumplings, Spicy Wontons,Red Oil Dumplings, Onion Pancakes, seaweed/ Egg soup

Saw this on TikTok so had to come. We paid £25 per person (service not included), which included a drink too. This felt like such great value for money. We had unlimited dim sum, ranging from shrimp puffs to xiao long bao. Each dish had its own unique flavour, but every dumpling was delicious in its own way. Will be returning for sure!

Google
Very authentic Taiwanese street food, brought me back to my days in Taiwan. The oyster omelette was spot on, and glutinous rice with minced pork is a treat. If you don’t like beef noodle soup, try the stir fried beef noodle with sacha sauce. It’s the dry cousin version of the soup with more savory notes and chewy fried noodles. I will definitely come back again

Google
Great experience all around! Really nice, thoughtful service by our waitress. Food was great, we felt lucky to have found this spot (pictured, with labels) We also got some drinks - shandy beer, soy milk with pandan jelly. And ended with some hot jasmine tea - the perfect end cap.

Google
The Xiao Long Bao here is absolutely divine—delicately crafted with a flavorful, rich broth inside that bursts with every bite. Every other dish we ordered was equally delightful, especially the braised pork belly, which was incredibly tender and infused with the most aromatic and comforting spices. While I can’t quite remember the exact name of the dish, the flavors were truly memorable. The overall experience was satisfying and heartwarming—perfect for anyone craving comforting, authentic flavors in a cozy and welcoming setting.

Yelp
I wanted another noodle soup for dinner so I found leong's legend while strolling around Chinatown. I was stashed in the back of the restaurant since I was a party of 1. Haha. I went for the ginger scallion sesame oil chicken noodle soup. It really hit the spot for me. I wish I can get this at home. It was plenty of noodle soup. I couldn't finish the bowl. It was absolutely delicious and flavorful. It's a very simple noodle dish and it's comforting. Highly recommend if you need something to warm you up from the cold London weather!

Yelp
Food was delicious. I had a simple meal of: Xiao long bao Scallion pancake Tiger beer Would've loved to have ordered more but I was solo. I got seated right away and food came out fast. Great spot in Chinatown. There are many options but I would recommend this for their soup dumplings. I may have to come back for more before I leave the UK :) Bill was roughly £27

Yelp
We can here last year Sept, looking for a casual meal for 6 people around 1-2pm on a Saturday without reservations around and luckily a group was about to leave, so the wait was only 15 minutes. Having no set expectations and just looking for a decent meal, this place met and exceeded our expectations. I was surprised to find pretty good Taiwanese food served here in London! The restaurant itself was pretty crowded inside with tables spaced very closely together and not a lot of walking room, but once seated in one of the larger booths towards the front of the restaurant it was sufficient for our group. Service was pretty attentive at to start though towards the end of the meal the restaurant seemed to be extremely busy and it took a while to flag down our check and pay for the meal. Since it's been a while since the visit, I'll say overall my impression was good on the food--definitely order the Taiwanese specialties. Having eaten a lot in Taiwan before, this place was as authentic and tasty as you can get half way around the world. I especially enjoyed the steamed glutinous rice, oyster pancakes (kinda like a low key version of Korean pajeon pancakes), water spinach, and beyond pork rice bowl. They also serve set meals and hotpot which we didn't try, but if I'm in London again would venture back here if I was craving Taiwanese food.

Yelp
Good sh*t tasty, fantabuluous, yummy, amazeballs, two thumbs up, what a wow, give it to me baby

Yelp
Really wasn't the best Chinese food I've had, but was really craving some food from back home. My partner and I shared the STIR FRIED STRING BEANS, XIAO LONG BAO, and the BRAISED PORK with rice which was my favorite amongst all the dishes. ENJOY!

Yelp
There are so many restaurants in Chinatown and most of them are overpriced and seem to cater to the tourists. We were looking for a place that served authentic food that wouldn't break the bank. We walked around Chinatown twice before we decided on going to this gem. We were happy to have some authentic Taiwanese food. We ordered green onion pancakes, dumplings, stewed pork over rice, and Taiwanese sausage. The food was great. The dumplings were perfectly steamed, Taiwanese sausage was super tasty, and the stewed pork over rice was delicious. I wish there was more. My only slight complaint was the green onion pancakes were slightly undercooked and mushy. Otherwise, aside from this minor gripe, everything was uber delicious. I would definitely come back, You can't go wrong if you come here for a meal. The prices are reasonable and the food was authentic. Yummy!

Yelp
The food is acceptable. Nothing spectacular. I guess I would have given them 4 stars if it wasn't for the ridiculously long wait between the first three dishes and the last three dishes. Overall I find them acceptable. About £20 per person if you wana be full. Food either lack flavour or too salty. Unfortunately nothing in between tho, at least for my experience.

Yelp
Food was decent, a little overpriced but quick. The service was not great as the staff were quite ignorant though they weren't even busy nor was the restaurant. The tables were sticky and not cleaned properly but the vibe of the restaurant was nice. Wouldn't go again

Yelp
The food was amazing-we had the Set Meal and the choices and quality were brilliant! However, what became a problem was the attitude of the servers.- we had a doubt regarding the menu and we were not even explained properly and the servers were rude and in a rush. Because of this, we decided not to pay the service charge as well which is optional. However, we were told very rudely that if we walked in the restaurant we needed to pay for it. I think the servers need to do a better job of being a bit more warm and welcoming.

Yelp
I only got a dim sum selection here, so while I can't speak to the meal options, the dim sum was very tasty. I came on the bank holiday weekend with my boyfriend and surprisingly, this place allowed walk-ins at around 12:30/1. The xiaolongbao was my favorite by far. The shumai and crystal shrimp dumpling were also delicious. The cheungfun and chicken stick rice were a bit meh though. As with all restaurants that offer a wide menu, they excel at some items while others were subpar. On average, we were quite content with our meal. Would definitely recommend checking out the XLB!

Yelp
My bf and I were in Chinatown, super hungry. There were sooo many Chinese restaurants all in one alley and had no idea where to eat. We chose this one at random. The food was sub par. Only thing we enjoyed were the xiao long baos. The spicy beef noodle soup and the other noodle (forgot the name) was weird. Definitely one of my least favorite Chinese dinners I've had.

Yelp
Before we came here we were told their food is not decent Taiwanese food. And I think how bad can it be. And here we were and yes food here can be a bit disappointing. To be fair the dumpling and fried noddles were ok. But not for the sesame oil chicken or the ginger duck. Maybe 50% like the authentic Taiwanese food and we see them a lot room to improve.

Yelp
Great prices for authentic Taiwanese food! Like the other reviews, I agree the dishes are hit or miss. The xiaolongbao were good and what you'd expect. The spring onion pancake was exceptional and very fresh and my friend said the pork belly with rice was very tender and delicious. The disappointment was the pan fried tofu with prawn (not pictured). I'm convinced it was frozen as the tofu used wasn't very soft and there was a pocket of gelatinous starch in the filling. Overall, I'd still return for a diverse menu of authentic food with good prices.

Yelp
I went with my boyfriend last week after reading a Timeout article but the reality didn't match the exoectations. The tables were quite small, the staff wasn't very nice and not helpful at all as I ask for some dishes and there were no explanation... The food was expensive as the quality wasn't good. I'll not recommend to anyone.

Yelp
This is a restaurant that I haven't tried in Chinatown so thought would be nice to try how their food is. There were four of us and one is a vegetarian so this was good to see what kind of veggie options they had. Not a lot of interesting veggie options, sadly. We ordered the Pork Xiao Long Bao, Pork & Crab Xiao Long Bao and Vegetarian Xiao Long Bao - the pork was particularly very good both and we ordered another portion of it. We also tried the half baby fried chicken and garlic stir fry morning glory which were both really good as well. Also ordered a few other items. Only 3 stars as the staff were not very knowledgeable which of the xiao long baos was the vegetarian option and their price is slightly more than the other neighbouring restaurants. I don't think I'll be going back to this resto.

Yelp
Our crab was utterly inedible. It was so over cooked that it was impossible to remove the meat from the shell. They gave us 50% off but the chef ruined this dish. The rest of our dishes were only ok. Green beans with pork were the best but an odd veggie dish of 'fish' came as out as large egg rolls, reminiscent of what you get at those awful Chinese restaurants you find in American airports. Not sure what has happened to this place but our meal didn't meet their usual standards.

Yelp
Hotpot far exceeded our expectations, as someone who was born and raised in Hong Kong the hotpot was excellent even by my standards. Wide range of choices, all you can eat, with helpful and friendly staff who were more than willing to help. They efficiently served and satisfied our 12-person group and it was an excellent experience overall. Hotpot highly recommended. Several different broths to choose from, and plentiful selection of hotpot foods. Included giant scallops, fresh salmon sashimi, mussels, beef and lamb, tofu, and many more. Hotpot is ~£24 per person with 12.5% service charge. Definitely worth it.

Yelp
As a Californian visiting the UK, I was looking forward to getting some authentic Chinese food in London. As this is a Taiwanese restaurant, I ordered my "go-to" dishes 1) spicy wonton and 2) beef noodle soup. The wontons in the spicy wonton were flavorful, but something was definitely off about the sauce. Also, it's not worth £7. The bigger disappointment was actually the beef noodle soup. The noodles were definitely store bought/machine made, they had no real texture and some were clumped together. As for the beef, they were so fatty.

Yelp
What happened to this place? I remember going to Leong's Legends around the corner on Macclesfield a few years back and being pleasantly surprised by the food, and especially the more Taiwanese-style options on offer. At this new location, it's almost like they're trying to be some generic "Asian" restaurant, what with hot pot and even sushi and Hawaiian poke on offer. The XLB were not as good as I remember, and they were out of oysters, so I couldn't even get get the oyster omelette / oazen. Service was rough, to boot - they even charged us for a dish we didn't order (and they certainly didn't bring out).

Yelp
Dumplings are good. I really like their soups, something different. Rest of the menu is standard quality. It is not the best place in Chinatown but at least you will not be disappointed. Maybe prices a bit high for quality.

Emily T.

Yelp
The food is decent. Definitely overpriced for its quality, but was acceptable. The service, however, is not their strong suit. Upon entering the restaurant there was no staff to serve my friend and I, and we had to ask the lady working to be seated after 5 minutes of standing around and waiting for them. Then once we were seated, we had to wait around 20 minutes to be served again, and there was no effort on the staff's part to serve us. The food did come very quickly, but almost too quickly...as if it was already made and just heated up for us. If you are starving, then I would say go for it, but do not expect anything above mediocre.

Naomi E.

Yelp
My friend and I came to Chinatown looking for authentic Asian food and stopped at an aesthetically pleasing restaurant that didn't have many people inside, we were slightly sceptical but decided that It would be worth a shot. Upon arriving we had to ask the lady that I believe owns the store to be seated after waiting 5 minutes. We were seated in front of the window I presume to attract the attention of people passing by, the seats were hard and uncomfortable but we presumed that it was because it was part of the aesthetic, We then waited 20 minutes to be served and that was because the server was told by the owner to serve us . Our food came within 5 minutes which was weirdly suspicious however we thought the food was decent but defiantly overpriced. The waiter seemed to not have experience and didn't quite know what he was doing which was quite evident as the service was terrible and there was no social etiquette as part of the experience. It's an ok place to go if you want a quick stop but not for special occasions or sitting in
