3 Best Day Trips in Puerto Rico | Condé Nast Traveler

"Levain's motto translates to: “yeast is our culture and our culture is yeast,” which demonstrates the west coast bakery's commitment to its craft. Try the tricked-out Monte Cristo sandwich: challah that's topped with salami, pepperoni, cream cheese, and strawberry marmalade, then soaked in French toast batter, pan-fried in butter, and sprinkled in powdered sugar with a touch of maple syrup. There's also eggs Benedict on a house-made English muffin with classic Hollandaise and smoked salmon or spinach. This is a great for a stop if you're flying in or out of Aguadilla, the hub of the west." - Alicia Kennedy

Google
Their breakfast sandwich is what my dreams are made of. A perfect croissant paired with fluffy eggs. A bonus was that they have a few prepared food items for grab and go — some cold sandwiches and a bean dip which was really helpful during our travels. No seating inside but there are outdoor tables and benches right next door!

Google
The queue was kinda crazy when we visited but the bread we ordered were great! We bought pain au raisin, pain au chocolate, turkey croissant, plain sourdough and baguette.

Carmen

Google
The best pastries, great coffee. My favorite is the cranberry nut loaf. But it's sold out quickly, so call before you go, if this is your particular craving. Great service.

Google
Great bakery to start your day! The mocha coffee was excellent, and the pastries are top notch. This is a small bakery and they can run out quickly. I recommend going early to make sure you get a chance to taste it! I am going back tomorrow for that mocha coffee again!

Google
Amazing breads and pastries. The location is very small, so be aware ahead of going. No seating either, so be ready to grab and go. If you order coffee and pastries, you should be in and out in 5 mins. If you order a sandwich, be ready to wait 10-15 minutes based on how busy it is.

Natalie

Google
Amazing but I need to try more pastries. They sell out before 11:00 am

Google
This bakery is state side quality. Excellent. Do arrive early so you can get the best selection. They sell out, so good. From pecan squares to sourdough breads, it's all creative and delicious. Coffee Breakfast sandwiches. Truly great 🥰 Rosemary Garlic Sourdough bread 🌟🌟🌟

Google
I think our experience could have been better. We were pretty excited about this place. Showed up about 10:40am on a Sunday and lots of items where already out. Breakfast is sold until 11am but they were completely out of eggs, eggs sandwiches, etc by that time. Several other items scratched off menu as well. The lunch sandwiches we bought were pretty good. We ordered two cappuccinos and expected beautiful latte art like in the pictures, but we didn’t get and the cappuccinos were just ok. There were a couple benches at the park you could sit and eat at, but other than that, no seating was offered.

Yelp
Amazing little coffee and pastry shop. Friendly service and good vibes, although the parking was a little challenging. The breakfast quiche was so fluffy and flavorful, the carrot cake was rich and decadent, and the mocha was pure chocolatey goodness! Anyone visiting this area needs to check out this shop!

Yelp
Amazing pastries and breakfast items to grab and go quickly. This became a regular go to spot for us when heading out in the morning. I never got to try their lunch menu but im sure its fantastic as well. The croissants are perfectly crisp and flaky. The sesame croissant with turkey and cheese is a must! The staff was friendly every time we stopped by and the prices are extremely reasonable. This is a small shop that does not have any option to sit inside but there are a couple tables on the side of the building facing the park.

Yelp
Long lines but excellent pastries and breakfast eggs sandwiches. The pain au chocolat was incredible: very flaky and included a nice large chunk of chocolate. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Been there many times and Customer Service is the WORST in the area, RUDE. As the RUDE EMPLOYEES won't spend my money at that place EVER AGAIN. Pastries used to be good not anymore for the price, they should realize that they are not in PARIS. Store presentation not the best. Employees should get CUSTOMER SERVICE TRAINING

Yelp
Stopped here while we were waiting for our rental car. I had the ham and cheese croissant, so buttery and flaky. It was delicious . People were steadily coming in to get stuff. I wanted to try the quiche but they were out. I did get a coffee , it was strong but good !
google avatar

Levi V.

Yelp
The breakfast sandwich is great and at a very good price. The cortadito had the perfect ratio of espresso and milk. It very rare to find a good cortado here in this part of the island. Great job!!!
google avatar

Liz O.

Yelp
If only there was a way to explain how good this place smells on yelp. Something along the lines of the precious bread and the hottest coffee and some fresh fruit. Not to mention extremely friendly staff. There is a little park next-door and you can watch the planes takeoff at the airport across the street. It's pretty perfect
google avatar

Gloria R.

Yelp
Amazing pastries and coffee, the croissant was magnifiquè! kind of expensive but so worth it
google avatar

Vicky S.

Yelp
Assortment of delicious pastries!!! So good! They also have capaccino, coffee etc. Made fresh daily. The carrot cake was the best I ever tried! The little bakery is very clean and service was very good.

Ron I.

Yelp
Great bread and pastries. Amazing bakery, never disappoints. Fresh bread daily with great combos of sweet and salty
google avatar

Yelp
Seriously one of the best French bakeries I have visited! Everything here is delicious, but especially their croissants, baguettes, and rosemary garlic bread. They also have a killer carrot cake and great seasonal pastries and cakes. Highly recommend.

Monika R.

Yelp
Closed Monday and Tuesday! Went on Wednesday and ordered A bacon egg and cheese they had no more bacon and still charged for the bacon. They had two days to get bacon. Food is pretty basic nothing extravagant. Almond donut tasted tough and old but the filling was good.

Kike P.

Yelp
Best bread in the island. You have to try the loaf with cranberries and walnuts; also the one with black olives. Amazing
google avatar

Eileen S.

Yelp
This small bakery is a little different from the rest I've tried in PR. I would say it is more "Americanized", however, still yummy.
google avatar

Maria C.

Yelp
If you want your French/European fix in Puerto Rico, this is the place to go. Pain au chocolate, oat milk latte, and steak sandwich are delicious. Friendly staff, too! This place is very popular. I will be trying the baguette and other breads next time I go.
google avatar

MERCEDITA D.

Yelp
Service, location and parking: good. Food: not as expected at all. The food is not cooked at the moment.
google avatar

Stephanie W.

Yelp
Levain is delicious! I'm so glad we took a friend's advice and stopped by this adorable and tasty bakery. The lattes are perfectly prepared and ALL of the pastries are divine. The sticky bun is a must! We had the fruit tart, sticky bun, quiche, croissant, cookies, and coffee cake.
google avatar

Taylor G.

Yelp
Excellent pastries and coffee, affordable, great sandwiches! Must try a pastry.. the hazelnut cream donut-like one I had was incredible.
google avatar

JasonJennifer S.

Yelp
This is the place to get French bread and some pastries. Because this place is so far I prefer to buy 6 loafs at a time and freeze them for a rainy day. Finding really good bread is hard in this end of the island. I can't say these desserts were all exceptional but then again I am not in Paris.
google avatar

Buffy F.

Yelp
Wonderful small bakery with fresh made bread, quiche, lunch sandwiches great cafe con leche Some parking available limited seating ... Worth a visit
google avatar

Denise A.

Yelp
There is a lot of horrible coffee out there so don't be fooled! Coffee isn't hard to make so I'm not exactly sure how anyone can mess it up being a coffee shop. That being said: This place is pretty delicious. The best coffee shop that's the closest to the airport but not in the airport. Very good and great service. The only problem I have with the place is the size of the cups. It ranges depending on what you get. And that's not at all clear here.
google avatar

Evy A.

Yelp
Excellent bakery serving specialty coffees, baked goodies and yummy sandwiches too. Near Ramey and easy to locate. Hot spot for military personnel and locals.
google avatar

Dyan T.

Yelp
Very elegant, cozy bakery; the coffee was great and I tried for the first time a quiche which I think its delicious you can taste all of the flavors of the quiche. I also purchased an artisan bread, they make from scratch it, was great. You can feel the European vibe in that bakery. Employee are very friendly they take the time to talk and explain what are they selling.
google avatar

Eduardo G.

Yelp
Delicious French pastry, good service and prices love the Sundays breakfast 5 thumbs up....
google avatar

L K.

Yelp
Coffee is excellent here. All pastries I tried were amazing. Bread, too. Prices are decent. Highly recommend this place.
google avatar

Jorge C.

Yelp
The only thing i recommend at this caffe is the crossant and the coffe. That said is a verry expensive coffe shop

a d.

Yelp
5/5 hands down! I don't think there has been anything that I have gotten from here that has not been great. I typically just pass through for a coffee and pastry pick-me-up (always amazing!) but finally got a sandwich yesterday (Lemon Chicken) and it was so good! If you are looking for a place grab a good cup of coffee, pastry, sandwich then this is the place!
google avatar

Raisa L.

Yelp
Sunday Brunch its a must! I had a the Special Of the day Churrasco. It was totally worth it. It had Goat Cheese and Tiny tomatoes.
google avatar

Felipe V.

Yelp
Awesome place with great coffee and really good quality baked goods. Definitely worth going.
google avatar

Anthony V.

Yelp
Friendly service and worth the short drive from Jobos beach. Great coffee and croissants.
google avatar

Lia A.

Yelp
Delicious! Excellent. I'm a foodie with a penchant for European bakeries and this place is fantastic by anyone's standard. Their baguettes are perfect (and $2 each). Their coffee is excellent and the real star of their show is their homemade hazelnut crossaints. Delicious. I was disappointed in my quiche (I don't think quiche should have watery tomatoes so my fault for ordering it). Reasonably priced and they care about the quality of their products. Also this is a fabulous place to go for a treat with young kids. A cute little playground sits beside a handful of clean tables so they can play while you have coffee. I'd be a regular here if I lived in Isabella.
google avatar

Jason M.

Yelp
The coffee is good and the food is good. Nothing that stands out from other privately owned coffee shops. Still way better than a Starbucks.
google avatar

Judy P.

Yelp
This bakery is an absolute must if you are flying to and from Aguadilla airport (BQN)! This artisanal bakery in the western part of Puerto Rico was a treat to find after dropping off our rental car. We had the breakfast sandwich ($4), iced coffee and the "French Toast" which were these scrumptious muffin like semi sweet bread. Please come and support this amazing locally owned bakery tucked in the Ramsey Base at the airport.

Adriana P.

Yelp
The food is fresh and delicious, steak n eggs made perfectly, their brioche breakfast is awesome, their Homemade granola and breads are to die for. Service was excellent too! Overall 5 stars.
google avatar

Bianca D.

Yelp
Excellent variety of coffee drinks, croissants were fresh, easy to eat, crispy yet light. Fast and friendly service. Clean air conditioned. Not much seating area but a good stop. We didn't order them but heard the chocolate filled croissants were a must.
google avatar

Antonio S.

Yelp
Solid cup of iced coffee and a delicious roast beef sandwich. It was a bit pricey for the area (I'm guessing they have Base Ramey / airport pricing to catch the tourists). Make sure to go in earlier in the day because they sell out of their items towards closing.
google avatar

Brian R.

Yelp
Best bakery I went to while in PR. Quiche and pastries were amazing and the latte was delicious. We drove a half hour just to go here and it was worth it!

Ainaira O.

Yelp
Leaving it's always an option when I'm near Aguadilla. Usually, I eat a croissant, but today I give a chance to something else, the simple breakfast. It has a perfect portion of food, and it's not expensive. The coffee is a perfect one.
google avatar

Piedr A.

Yelp
So so good, brunch is. Not only amazingly varied (from eggs benedict and brioche french toast to a melted cheese/bacon/celery marvel on french bread) with fantastic coffee, but also full of super sweet people who always treat you with a smile. I know you'll walk out totally stuffed and not interested in taking any food home BUT as you drive home you'll miss those plum tarts, croissants and cakes, so to avoid dealing with teary eyes (or hating yourself) just take anything and everything to go. Ohh, there's a nice seating area by the park on the side of the building, but do go prepared to exercise your swinging arm to battle kamikaze flies.
google avatar

Praveen R.

Yelp
Freshly baked breads and Pastries. Pretty fast service. Their special of the day is really good for a reasonable price. The staff was very friendly and went out of their way with our special order.
google avatar

José G.

Yelp
Very nice and simple artisan bakery. All their breads are made freshly in house. Had myself a breakfast sandwich in some of their rye bread and was top notch. Coffee is excellent and staff was very friendly.
google avatar

Jenna S.

Yelp
A somewhat pretentious establishment. Granted it was the lunch rush, but I was disheartened when I was told they could not and would not make a bacon egg and cheese croissant sandwich when they made it for my friend who ordered before me. I was told I could just order a bunch of sides and do with it what I wished. Over all service was very lax minded. Food tasted ok.

Pete R.

Yelp
I'm originally from Aguadilla so I was happy to see Levain Bakery open. I've been to levain a few times( I live on the mainland now). The times I have visited the selection of pastries was very limited. The day I was there a client had asked for their quiche to be reheated. Which is funny cause my daughter thought hers was not warm enough. The staff doesn't seem happy to be there. They're not bad, but service is average at best. I was there a few years ago and just recently. I feel like the product has fallen off.

Margaret M.

Yelp
Delish!! The selection is fantastic and even tho it's just counter service it's great! Wonderful coffee creation selection also..always a place to hit for a quick morning bite.

Kindra E.

Yelp
We didn't eat lunch but stopped and had a croissant and coffee. There is no outdoor seating and space inside is really limited. Good service and appears to have nice beads although we didn't get any.

Erica S.

Yelp
Their bread is amazing! I go here weekly for their ham and brie sandwich. They also make great quiches and sweet treats. The only thing I am not super crazy about is their coffee... too strong for my taste. I wish they had a frequent diner punchcard!
google avatar

Maria P.

Yelp
The most amazing croissants out side of Paris! Staff is friendly and helpful and happy to explain all the yummy ingredients. Nothing fake or pre packaged here. The quiche du jour is amazing but the croissants. ...ah the croissants. ...coffee is great as well!

Hanna S.

Yelp
This place is amazing!! Wonderful service and coffee! The pastries and breads are to die for! We will be back!

Sofia U.

Yelp
This place is great! The food is delicious. Unfortunately, the service is very slow. The place is very popular, so there was a big line, and the space is super tiny! There are only about two tables inside and three outside. The eclairs are delicious though!
