The 22 Best Restaurants in Richmond, BC - Eater

"Locals flock to Hong Kong-style cafe Lido at all hours — the queue starts as early as 7:15 a.m. — for pineapple buns. Those in the know eschew the ones in view in favor of the ones in back, fresh out of the oven. They’re best with butter (or even “double butter”), the cold creaminess playing off the warm and already buttery bun. They’re fine on their own, too, washed down with some coffee that can be Western-style or HK-style, meaning with milk. Or use the buns as a prelude to something else from a menu that includes noodle soup with squid balls, a corned beef and egg sandwich, and oatmeal with turnip cake. [$ - $$]" - Jay Friedman

"They’re here for the bolo bao (pineapple bun). This pastry gets its name from how it looks rather than how it tastes: The top of the bun has a crosshatched, sugar cookie–like crown that, if you squint, kinda looks like a side of a pineapple." - ByElyse Inamine

Your typical HK tea cafe! The egg tart and pineapple bun with butter is a must order!! They make them fresh out of the oven especially the egg tarts and it's limited supply!! But the pineapple buns they always have, so don't worry unless you go to late then your outta luck! Enjoy everyone!!

Based strictly on their food, this place is 5 stars. They have THE BEST pineapple buns - it's 100% worth the wait, whether you dine-in or take it to go. The restaurant itself is busy, pretty run-down, and the service is really bad. The menu is not in English, but they do have an English version available if you ask - it just might take another 20 mins for you to get it. They are incredibly busy, all the time. The food, and overall experience, is authentic. It brings me right back to being in Hong Kong. I'd definitely recommend this restaurant.

Very memorable taste from old day HK cafe, 5 stars no doubt. The fresh pineapple bun is a must try, with butter. I finished it and forgot to take picture.

Not sure why this restaurant got bad ratings for service but everything was good and smooth when we ate there. The polo bun was undisputedly the best I have tried in my life: crunchy on the top and super soft and pilloy at the bottom. Their cheong fun (rice roll) was also very delicious and you can taste the aroma and freshness of the rice. Decent HK milk tea.

The service has gotten a lot better compared to few years ago. Food is served quick because they try to kick you out as fast as possible so that they’ll have high table turnover. The place is definitely overpriced for most of the items. However, the pineapple bun is still pretty good and fresh, we’ll come back for it.

HK style café that is always busy. We were there at 8:30 am on a weekday and there was already a line up to get in. The food was good, but no better than any other similar cafés. Service is pretty horrible, due to the fact that they are very busy. We literally had to grab a waitress as she walked by just to put our order in and the food took a while to arrive. Parking is very limited and they are also cash only. Menu is only in Chinese.

This place gets really busy so if you don't want to wait long you'll want to make sure to go early if you have a big group. This place reminds me of little cafes in Hong Kong. They have fresh pineapple bun that comes out often.

**This review is strictly for their pineapple bun as I have not tried their other food on the menu** If you’re ever in Richmond, you MUST stop by this place and try their pineapple bun. It’s warm, fresh, and soft - like heavenly carby clouds blessing your mouth with every bite. The crust on top is perfection and not too sweet and buttery. The both times I was here, it was bustling with peeps. You will not regret this simple masterpiece! Disclaimer: I went during the morning time so I can’t speak for quality later in the afternoon or evening 🙂

Yelp
If you want an authentic HK Style cafe experience this is the spot! I was blown away by the flavors and the freshness it took me back to when I last went to HK. Only note is they are cash only! So travelers should be wary. I tried the Beef Stew Ho Fun, Egg Tart, Pineapple Bun w/ Butter, Spicy Wontons, and Minced Pork Picked Vegetable Rice noodle. Must try's are the egg tarts and pineapple buns that come freshly hot! And the beef stew Ho fun was my favorite! My only regret is not trying their cheung fun which is only available during breakfast. Prepared to wait for a seat, but definitely must go to spot in Vancouver!!

Yelp
Li-NO... I think a lot of my friends and I grew up frequenting this place and Kam Do during our youngling years due to its generous portions and reasonable prices. The last time I been here was probably 15 years ago? Well, here I am back again due to some memory lane talk among friends. Here were the food I ordered; 1. Pineapple buns with butter. I honestly don't know what happened but it came more as smashed pancake bun with butter that doesn't melt. Everyone else's pineapple bun came plump and fluffy and here was mine... seemed like some psycho ex-gf having revenge on mine. Failed! (Facepalm) 2. Egg tart. The shell was crunchy rather than flaky and buttery. For $3.50 each, it's a failed! 3. Dried oyster and pork congee. Nice amount of ingredients and the congee was done homemade style. Decently good. 4. Wonton noodle soup. The wontons were okay, the noodle was basic, and the soup was too generic could use a bit of old fashion wonton flavour to it. 5. Combo A (macaroni and ham in soup with butter bun; sausage and scrambled eggs). The sausage and scrambled eggs were deflated of life, never got the butter bun, and the subpar macaroni and ham in soup were forgotten until I asked for it (about 30mins later between the macaroni soup and eggs). Failed! This place is pretty old school in terms of its interior layout and furnishings, has that very 80s-90s casual Hong Kong cafe atmosphere. It wasn't jam packed but did had a constant flow of customers while I was there, especially orders of the pineapple bun. (Roll eyes, honestly good pineapple buns are everywhere nowadays) As busy as this place was, the service was okay because all the staffs were active and attending to the customers (just a bit forgetful that's all). What can I say about the food? The food I got was ridiculous below subpar for the price. After almost flattening and squashing the life out of the pineapple buns (almost $5 each), how can one still serve it to their customers? And the egg tart ($3.50 each), now I know why nobody order one besides silly me lol. Then there's the combo A (macaroni and ham soup), it's literally a joke, I can't even force myself to eat a few mouthful of it. The only saving grace was the congee which was decent. Overall, it was quite a disappointing experience. Now I know why I haven't revisited this place in the last 15years. Nevertheless, my next visit here will be another 15 years from now if they are still around, but in the meantime I don't recommend it, definitely a Li-NO for me!

Yelp
We went to their dessert/soup store beside the restaurant. We were waiting to pay and an employee asked us if we needed anything else. We said Taro cake. She asked her co-worker and they said they did not have it. Then she indicated us to walk upfront to pay but there were still customers there. So we stood back at the corner. They made us wait for a long time while they had several employees available. They made us uncomfortable by passing us closely with dirty dishes and one of the male employees was walking back and forth while passing us closely. They should not let us stand in front of the fridge because that male employee tried to put the individual cakes into the fridge, and they should not tell us to pay while they were serving other customers. When it was our time to pay, they assisted another customer behind us and they took their time to serve that customer who ordered a whole mango cake. They should have let us pay quickly first because we only got one item. They made us look awkward and they obviously did not care about our business. The service was unexpectedly horrible.

Yelp
This place can be busy and serves a great variety of breakfast items. Everything is prepared to order! The congee and rice rolls that I had were both great and I really enjoyed the face balls in my congee. Portion and prices are reasonable, but keep in mind that this place only accepts cash.

Yelp
Had a good ol' HK breakfast at Lido with friends. The pineapple buns are a must. Its what everyone comes for, but added bonus is that the food is also really good! Our meal (in addition to all the pineapple buns): Satay Beef Noodle Soup, Minced Beef & Raw Egg on Rice, Beef Brisket Noodle Soup, Curry Beef Brisket on Rice, and BBQ Pork and Duck with Rice. I'll conclude this with some storytime: Even though I've had the pineapple bun many times, it was always someone grabbing it for me. This was my first time dining at the restaurant. When I went to grab a table for my group, we went into 'Mango Mama' next door. Realized our mistake when the rest of the group was inside Lido and didn't see us. Has anyone else done that? We notice several others did the same while we were waiting. To be fair, the Lido Restaurant sign goes directly across above their door, not sure why. Wonder how often this happen?

Yelp
The best pineapple buns I've had in my life! That was the only reason why I visited this place. The pineapple bun was fresh out of the oven, the crust was perfect and the butter made it even more tasty. I also got a milk tea and it was creamy and strong tasting. The service can be a bit slow, but you just need to waive your hand whenever you are ready. As for the ambiance, if you go by yourself like I did, you could be seated with 2 different parties on the same table.

Yelp
Richmond has a lot of Chinese restaurants... I'm not sure why this one is rated so highly. Yes, it is the only Chinese restaurant I ate at while visiting Richmond, but compared to other chinese restaurants I've been to, it seems just ok. First, we came for lunch and waited for 30-45 minutes in their tiny waiting area. This place is so popular. Make sure to write your name on the waiting list and then hope it's not too cold to stand outside. The service wasn't great, but to add the cherry on top, they offer an English menu and a Chinese menu that are not the same. Use google translate to choose something off the Chinese menu, because it looked like better combo options. We tried the congee, the dry beef look fun, a pineapple bun with a slab of butter and pan fried grated yam cake. I also had a lemon tea. The food tasted good, but not amazing. I didn't think it was worth the wait. It was just ok. So I was the only white person in this place. The waitresses spoke English, but it was hard to flag them down and receive service. Oh and they're cash only. Which isn't great for Americans like me who just drove across the border for the day.

Yelp
THE BEST PINEAPPLE BUN IN VANCOUVER! We cannot stop going to Lido Restaurant in Richmond, BC as it is hands-down the best HK style cafe in the area for its pineapple bun, milk tea and soup noodles! They open at 8am and after 9 you will see a line. Don't forget to bring CASH! MUST TRY: Hong Kong Milk Tea Pineapple Bun with Butter Roast Pork Macaroni The service is super fast and it's great to see all the locals that came by. Love the energy of the place!

Yelp
5/5 for the Pineapple Bun with Butter. There's always just something about having a bite of warm fluffy bun with some cold butter. I loved the way that the pineapple bun at Lido was not too sweet and was bigger horizontally instead of being more dense like some places make it. It served as the perfect platform for the butter. The Pineapple Bun was so good, we made sure to stop by to grab a few more before we left Vancouver. We also tried the Egg Tarts and Beef Chow Fun. I can't say they were as memorable as the Pineapple Buns but Lido's definitely a solid place to get your HK cafe fixings. Ambiance: I haven't made a trip to Hong Kong just yet, but it felt like I was transported to the HK drama cafes I watched growing up. It was bustling with noise and a great place to just be around. Service: Fast and efficient If you want to live out your pineapple bun dreams, do come to Lido.

Yelp
Grabbed a pineapple bun to-go since I heard how good they are from some locals! SUPER crumbly topping, I do usually prefer a little more topping but the bread was very soft and fresh!
google avatar

Cameron L.

Yelp
Overall pretty standard HK cafe minus the wait time. I went on a weekday lunchtime and the wait was around 35 minutes. Once seated the environment was like any other busy HK cafe - loud and bustling. I had to order the pineapple bun with butter, and that lived up to the hype - 5/5 rating from me. I also got a noodle soup which would also good, but nothing to rave about. I would absolutely come back for the Pineapple Bun with butter, but probably at a less busy time if that exists.

Yelp
This was the sixth Hong Kong Style Cafe that I visited during my time in Vancouver for my trip and it was awesome! I visited this restaurant today at 2:53 P.M. to get takeout and it was pretty quiet inside the restaurant. Also, the service was good when I was ordering my food and the staff was extremely nice. The first item that I ordered was the Iced Hong Kong Style Milk Tea which had the perfect level of sweetness and a good flavor to it. The next item that I ordered was the Pineapple Bun which had a crispy top, a soft bun, and a very rich flavor to it. The third item that I ordered was the Egg Tart which had a good, rich egg flavor. Also, the crust had a wonderful texture. The last item that I ordered was the Hot Hong Kong Style Milk Tea which had a good sweetness level and flavor that was on point. Overall, this was a really good experience and I would definitely recommend this place to anyone who wants to go to a good Hong Kong Style Cafe!

Yelp
Our first stop in Vancouver. My sister saw a tick tok for the pineapple bun and we made a beeline to this place. 3pm in the afternoon and this place was busy. When we walked in, a tray of pineapple bun was just coming out. We asked for 3 before we sat down and lady said sorry...all spoken for, have to wait for next tray. 15 minutes later our warm buns with the big oat of butter arrived...it was delicious!! We also tried few other items: fried Pig intestines-very small portion and kind of chewy, would not get again. Fried squid legs-nice crunchy and cooked just right Wonton soup-it was ok. The HK style milk tea and Lemon ice tea was very good. Will be back for more buns and try other items on the menu.

Yelp
It's been a hot minute since I've been to Hong Kong and so I'm always craving and in search of Cha Caan Tang style foods! It's my first time at Lido and there was a long line! However, we got a seat in about 20 minutes. It's a typical fast paced HK style restaurant-- you can share tables and their service was impatient and snappy. The Pineapple buns were so soft and flakey. The butter melts quite literally right in your mouth. The Hong Kong milk tea was so addicting! I downed it in minutes. This came with the noodles and any hot coffee or milk tea is included, or add an additional $2 for an iced one! Their Satay was super tasty and not overly salty. Their soup macaroni was yummy too-- but I wish they added some carrots, corn or peas. I originally thought it wouldn't be good because of how bland looking the soup was-- like.. re-used water, but I was wrong! There was an abundance of flavour, quite 清甜 and didn't taste like MSG! The noodles came with eggs & meat or sausages. It was a lot of food for a decent price. I came right after a dental appointment so I was numb and couldn't enjoy my food like I usually do. Would love to come back again and eat like a regular person lol !!

Yelp
Food - Soft and tasty! Service - No line wait while buying for to go. Ambiance - Feels like a Hong Kong cafe!
google avatar

Krystal L.

Yelp
Their meal sets are amazing! Comes with a lot of food and the price is amazing. I came here for the bolo bun with butter but ended up getting a meal set. Their service is fast, you don't need to wave down any waiters, they will always come check on you. There is a small parking lot to park in for free.
google avatar

Sophia W.

Yelp
This place was super packed so we decided to get take out. The bun was super soft but wished it was a little warmer to help melt the butter. Good mix of salty and sweet. Would definitely share one though.
google avatar

Jay W.

Yelp
This is one of those restaurants with mediocre reviews that you should avoid. Was looking for a place opened early and Lido fit the bill. I already excepted lackluster service. Ordered a few butter buns, egg tarts, herbal jelly, steamed milk egg whites. The buns were overpriced and sadly did not taste fresh. The butter was of subpar quantity. Egg tarts were flakey but still mediocre tasting. Milk tea was of very bad quality and had a weird creamy consistency. Herbal jelly was very overpriced as well and was too watered down. Steamed egg was definitely old and not fresh. Just don't come here. This place gives a bad name to all the other good restaurants in Richmond.
google avatar

Brenda K.

Yelp
A very small restaurant and there's always a line! We're lucky, we only waited for 10 mins! They're famous for their pineapple buns! It came out hot and soft! We had the Chinese sticky rice that came with a small bowl of any flavored congee! We also had wonton soup that came with a drink, I had the Hong Kong style tea! I also had their egg custard, the crust was very flaky and the egg tart was very tasty and not too sweet! The staff was really nice and friendly!

Eric K.

Yelp
They serve the best pineapple bun and egg tart in Vancouver. The milk tea is very good too.
google avatar

Kelly N.

Yelp
I stopped here to pick up pineapple bun and beef rice roll to go. It was crowded at 9:15am. The pineapple bun was readily available but I waited almost 20 minutes or so for the beef rice roll. I don't know why it would take so long. The noodles was really soft and there was a lot of beef, but it was so oily. The pineapple bun was good but it's similar to Delicious Corner in California. It was not amazing as I had expected.
google avatar

Edward W.

Yelp
My family and I came here for breakfast recently. This is definitely a fast paced restaurant so make sure you know what you are ordering before you flag down the waitstaff. Their menu was huge so we took a few minutes to decide. We got the pineapple buns, HK style french toast, sampan congee, egg tarts, rice rolls, turnip cake, and satay beef noodle soup. The pineapple buns were warm with a slab of butter inside. The crust was still flaky. Heaven! The egg tarts were also warm and the skin was flaky. So delicious! The iced and hot HK style milk tea is great as well. It had a lot of tea flavor. The french toast was also really good and came with peanut butter inside. Everything else was on par too. Why just 3.5 stars? This place is the bomb!
google avatar

Samuel F.

Yelp
A typical fast paced HK style restaurant that is known for their pineapple buns - Lido exceeded my expectations. We ordered their famous pineapple buns, wonton noodle soup, stir fried beef noodles, hot milk tea and cold milk tea. We got the pineapple buns hot and fresh from the oven; Soft, flaky and not too sweet... the perfect pineapple bun and the best I've ever had. The wonton noodle soup and stir fried beef noodles were still very good however they were on the saltier side for my tastes. Both the hot and cold milk tea were very smooth with the classic strong tea aroma, however I definitely recommend the hot over the cold. Throughout our dine-in experience, there was a constant line of customers ordering pineapple buns to-go and I can definitely see why. I'll be back to satisfy my pineapple bun cravings and to try their pineapple bun with a slice of butter inside!
google avatar

Alice C.

Yelp
I'm starving and craving for Chinese cafe. This place is highly recommended. They open at 8am, but it's crowded already when we arrived at 8:22am. There's already a wait line, sometime could be an hour wait. However, they are very efficient. They have plenty of options, porridges, rice rolls, breakfast combo. Everyone is recommending the pineapple bun with butter (aka bo lo yau), so gotta try that. The ambiance is just any other Chinese cafe.
google avatar

Stephanie H.

Yelp
*Let my preface this review by saying my experience may not be an accurate representation of an experience an English only speaker may have here. Traveling with a fluent Mandarin & Cantonese speaker, I didn't interact with the staff. This review is purely based on the taste of the food alone.* The BEST pineapple buns I've ever had in my life. I was unaware that pineapple buns were ever served with a huge cut of butter in the middle. In all honestly, it was a bit too much butter for my preference, but I was told that the cold contrast of the butter with the warm bun was a part of enjoying this particular item. Incredibly warm, freshly baked buns. Of course this is not an item you'd want to consume for its health benefits, but it is so tasty! I was informed people often pair this with tea / milk tea. The egg tart was good too and definitely worth trying as well.
google avatar

Jon H.

Yelp
Definitely a great HK diner experience. Authentic to the core: - The wait sucks - you got to have a full party present in order to be seated - pineapple bun with butter is a must (波蘿油) - they kick you out when you are done - cash only - loud af
google avatar

Katherine C.

Yelp
I can only attestto the pineapple buns and egg tarts. The buns were soft and fresh. The pineapple top was very crumbly and just fell off. The egg tarts were super creamy. Delicious!!
google avatar

Jon L.

Yelp
Finally made it here (didn't know they closed at 5pm ).. had a bit of a wait on a Sun just before noon. Pineapple bun - lights, fluffy, tasty and right out of the oven - yum! You can get it with a slab of butter, or even a double slab... I thought it great just plain witha coffee. Preserved egg and pork congee - light and not too thick congee, good flavour on the ingredients, need to add salt and pepper to the congee. Wonton mein - very good! Broth was nice, wonton was not dense bit was very balanced and flavourful. Noodles had the right amount of chew. Dare I say... as good as Max's?! As good as Tsim Tsai (wonton not as good or big, but broth was way better)?!
google avatar

Adrienne H.

Yelp
Quick and efficient service, yummy Hong Kong style breakfast. We had plain congee, Chinese donuts, macaroni and spam with eggs, egg tart, wonton noodles; we would come back on our next trip.
google avatar

Andrew T.

Yelp
I visited Li Do Chinese restaurant for breakfast and I liked their pineapple buns. They were freshly baked, soft and fluffy, with a crunchy crust and a generous slice of butter inside. The Hong Kong style milk tea was also very rich and smooth. The service was efficient, but not very friendly. The restaurant was quite busy and noisy, so it's not a place for a quiet conversation. The prices were reasonable for the portion and quality. I would recommend this place if you're looking for a quick and tasty bite of Hong Kong style cafe food.
google avatar

M C.

Yelp
Really good pineapple buns and daan tarts. Flaky buttery crusts and oven fresh every few minutes. They open at 8 but the place is full by 8:20. Take away baked goods is quick and easy but waiting for table can be a long wait. Aside from the buns and tarts we also had chicken noodle soup with lai fun, jook, jung and shrimp rice rolls. Noodle soup: noodles were overdone and too soft. However the chicken was good and the broth was simple and flavorful. Jook: not made correctly. Just cooked rice and water. Do not recommend. Jung: flavor is ok with stuffings I prefer (green beans, fatty pork, egg yolk), however, the rice was very mushy and not recognizable. Rice rolls: lots of plump shrimps! But the rice rolls were not great quality. Too thick and not smooth. The stars are pineapple buns and egg tarts. Would wait in line for them any day!
google avatar

Randy F.

Yelp
Overcrowded and poor service combined with once strong but low mediocre cooked food notable for prices and quantity than flavor and substance. Their pineapple bun and egg tart are fine but the fatty rice rolls were a disgrace. Combine with the curt service and crowds as you wait, I'll pass.
google avatar

Kevin K.

Yelp
Came here for breakfast. oh boi, I never see so many people are line up for a pineapple buns. I heard they are famous for it. So since I am here, I gotta try it. Oh boi, freshly out from oven with a slab of butter in the middle of it.. hmmm I feel like heaven.. Their hong kong tea is also very good. Now I understand why there's a line for it...
google avatar

Denise C.

Yelp
We wanted to try this hot spot but the boys were napping in the car and we couldn't:didn't want to wake them up. Instead, we did take out - it's kind of confusing but it was quite busy, even for 2 in the afternoon. Anyway, we ordered their signature (bolo bao & egg tarts) with two drinks and it came to $21 They were alright... but not mind blowing. Maybe it's just us... the menus are only in Chinese so it def would have been difficult for us to order off of it. Many people are encouraged to share a table with strangers or wait for your own empty table.
google avatar

Shirley L.

Yelp
Came back to Lido a year later and they are still as good as I remember. Hong Kong milk tea is smooth and mixed coffee tea is my favourite. Order hot. You won't regret it.
google avatar

Jonathan X.

Yelp
Great Chinese restaurant! They're cash only so be prepared. The pineapple buns are so fresh, they have a new batch every 10 min and cycle through them so quickly. The porridge and macaroni dish were also delicious. So homey. When you get there, put your name down on the clip board to wait in line. They call out names in Chinese and English, so make sure they don't skip you!
google avatar

Amber C.

Yelp
BEST pineapple buns and Hong Kong style milk tea! I come from NY where we do have pineapple buns and HK milk tea but I think it's the flour and tea that is different from NY. The pineapple buns here were super soft, large, and warm: a rarity for pineapple buns. The pineapple bun with butter is so unique, and adds a creaminess to the already soft bun. The HK milk tea was not overly sweet but was sweet enough to satisfy the craving for HK milk tea. The flavor pairs perfectly with the buns. Would come here again next time I go back to Richmond.

Yelp
HK style cafe in Central Square, which is the small plaza across from Aberdeen. The place is small and popular, and we had to wait a bit to get a table for lunch on a weekday. Inside is crowded and looks like the place has been there for a while. Menu is very traditional HK style cafe. Doesn't have bigger restaurant-level dishes that other HK cafes have. When we visited, they stopped serving western style items on their menu. For starters, tried their signature pineapple bun with a slab of butter in the middle. It's a fresh baked pineapple bun with a slab of warm butter in the middle... a decent combination. Also got the fried pork intestines. The intestines were okay, but there weren't that many pieces and most of the content was pickled radishes. For mains, we tried the pork mixed noodles, and a shrimp fried rice, both were alright. Prices aren't particular expensive or cheap... probably up a bit thanks to inflation. Overall, was okay.
google avatar

Vincent P.

Yelp
We came here for the pineapple buns and it was worth it! We got one of the last batches of pineapple buns, so you should make sure to come early! The pineapple buns were hot and fresh, we paid and finished half of our batch outside since it's best to eat it fresh. Note - it's cash only so make sure you have Canadian dollars on hand.
google avatar

Yelp
My favorite hi style cafe! Better than all the places in NYC and comparable to delicious corner cafe in LA. My favorite dish here is the pineapple bun w a slab of butter their bun comes out fresh and is even crispy on the edge! You can choose between their Asian or western combos. I even ordered egg tarts and a fried dough to go with the congee :) I had enough left over for another meal.

Yelp
This is a place where u have to work for ur food like everyone else said. If u don't flag down ur waiter or have the balls to yell out a order to a waiter that's across the room ur not eatting. Once I walked in and noticed the wait list filled with Chinese names in Chinese symbols I knew I was in for some good food. Next thing I noticed was the mismatch utensils and bowls more signs of good food to come. Next thing that cemented it all was the waiters, they all looked like they was in a rush and gave the hurry up, eat, and leave aura. Boy was I excited for the food. The best part was when I ordered more food the waitress gave me a face that was seen behind her mask, that shocked and judgy look that screamed out "U want more food!?!?!" I am still giving 5 stars because the food was so good that anything else that might deduct stars for other people gets overlooked. Coming from Hong Kong style breakfasts from New York city. This review is a service for everyone that lives anywhere near this establishment don't even bother with any hk style breakfast in New York or New Jersey in the states. Just does not compare. For anyone else, there are some hardship that u might experience during ur visit here but the food speaks for itself.

Yelp
A very traditional no-fuss hong kong style café that is known for their pineapple buns. Be warned you just might have to wait for a spot. Their original menu is completely in Chinese, but you can ask for their English menu. Protip: Arrive before 10:30 am to be able to order their rice rolls as they stop selling them after that point. Pineapple Bun (4/5) - $3 Taste: Doughy breading and a flaky, crunchy pineapple crust top. I prefer eating the pineapple bun without the large slab of butter as the texture becomes too greasy and fatty for my palette. Portion Size: Good portion for 1 person *MUST TRY* Egg Tart (5/5) - $2.70 Taste: I surprisingly LOVE the egg tarts, even more than the pineapple buns. Nice and flaky crust, really buttery smooth custard on the inside. Portion Size: Good side snack for 1 person Beef Tendon & Brisket Noodles (Rice Noodles) (4/5) - $15.70 Taste: This is one of my favourite things to get, I love the tender beef brisket that you can tear apart, and the beef tendon is chewy and soft. Paired with the soup broth that has just the perfect comforting and soul warming taste. Portion Size: 1 large portion or shareable between two people with a smaller appetite Fatty Beef Rice Rolls (4/5) - $12.25 Taste: The rice roll itself was really really good, extremely thinly made, but does not break apart. Chewy but not too doughy. I would opt for the regular beef roll instead of fatty beef, I didn't like the beef slices in there and would rather prefer the ground beef chunks. Portion Size: Good portion for 2-3 to share [Value for Money] Their price has definitely gone up over the years with rising popularity. Would I consider this still to be good value? Yes, but I wouldn't come here as frequently as a result of the above average prices compared to other hk cafes.

Yelp
Food is above average (pineapple butter bun and milk teas were amazing). Service is trash. Ambiance: is a HK vibe. Menu is available in both English and Chinese. Set breakfast combos are available, try to arrive early because wait time is ridiculously long They close at 5p.

Yelp
The best 菠萝油 (pineapple bun with butter) I've eaten! The bread was super soft and not to dry. The butter melted right in our mouths, and was the perfect temperature (not insanely melting in our hands, but also not rock solid out of the fridge). We got it to go so I cant say much about the service, but it was definitely crowded and hard to put in an order on the weekend. We did wait for quite some time since they're known for their pineapple buns, but it was worth the wait. Be sure to bring Canadian cash.

Yelp
Overrated... I was looking forward to eat at this place after hearing so many people are recommendation. The pineapple bun is just plain. Had it better at different bakery. The waitress were very speedy and efficient. The restaurant itself still maintain its old version of the HK style cafe in Hong Konv. So when I sat there, it gave me the same feeling as it was back in HongKong decades ago. And that what the 2 stars are for, the efficiency of the service and the vibes. As far as for the food itself, not recommended.

Yelp
This place is as busy as ever. We though my going at 8:30am would be a good time but it's already full at that time. They are super famous for their pineapple buns where they bake fresh in house. Without thinking about what to order, you should place your order if pineapple bun right away! Each batch has around 20 mins of wait time. I highly recommend ordering the bun with butter. My mom ordered eggs and ham with satay noodle soup where I shared a congee meal with rice roll with my hubby. Their meal portion is big enough to share with a friend. The place is cash only so bring cash.

Yelp
Typical Hongkong style restaurant where you can have anything that is suitble for anytime of a day. Although they are known for pineapple bun with butter, we were too full to have that. We ordered fried turnip cake, there usually have two flavour. One is dimsum, one is fried cake with XO sauce. you can taste the texture of ham in a turnip cake. Fried crisp pork intestine was good but I prefer softer ones inside. The sour and sweet pickles are great to balance the greasiness of fried food. Also, we ordered Chinese Almond Tea, really love the chinese sweet almond's drink, white as milk, smooth as cream but with a special smell of almond.Chinese Almonds were said to have been used by imperial Chinese empresses in almond tea to keep their skin supple and glowing. this place's drink is a little sweet.

Yelp
This was on my to-try list after seeing Mike Chen eat here. My husband sometimes misses Hong Kong cafe food, so being able to eat here was really nostalgic for him. Expect Hong Kongese comfort food and quick, no-nonsense service, which is typical for this kind of establishment. They're aiming to get people in and out quickly, so don't be surprised if they ask you to order almost immediately after sitting down. The ambiance here definitely felt like Hong Kong and the food was good. Definitely get their pineapple buns. If you're not familiar with it, no, it's not actually a bun made of pineapples, but the pattern on it is reminiscent of a pineapple. I typically don't like pineapple buns, but the ones here were really good. Cash only, by the way.

Yelp
I don't care what anyone else says; this was an amazing experience you should feel lucky to have access to- just have someone who can order in Cantonese or Mandarin to take you, please. I'm so happy we went super out of our way to try this place. I speak colloquial Cantonese but would honestly struggle a bit with the menu and ordering without any hiccups. You can just point and say "ee goh, tong mai.." (this one, and..) 10 times:) The pineapple bun was f***** amaZING. The butter a bit too much but the butter flavor is nice in there. Egg tart was mid. The french toast with surprisingly good with a light, jammy middle! Honestly it's all about the ambience Other locals ordered the B.b. option which looked interesting - ramen with beef shank? I wanted to try it but got bulldozed by the usual suspects; shrimp cheung feng, oh their youtiao was so good with the congee! We were lucky to run into a few people who were also waiting outside and went in to the communal table - no need to wait to be seated if it's open. We met tha local legend Darryl Yung! Badminton olympian turned olympian coach. Check his classes out at clearonebadminton.com.

Yelp
Finally, i came back here again for some of the pineapple bun. I would really recommend to get extra butter with it to make it super good and would be the best pineapple bun in town. Make sure to only order from the chinese menu and the set menu. It would come with pineapple bun, egg and ham, and soup and drinks. I got the good hk style milk tea and the ham and egg which are really good. I also got the satay with macaroni because why not. Always recommend lido to people because its very good. Cheers!
