"With two locations — an old school space on North Williams and a more modern, open restaurant on Northwest 23rd — Life of Pie is a consummate early afternoon date spot for its famed $8 margherita pizzas. With glasses of wine or beer for $6, it’s a simple, uncomplicated bang-for-your buck special, available basically all day, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m." - Brooke Jackson-Glidden, Maya MacEvoy, Eater Staff

"Life of Pie’s handsome wood-fired oven pumps out reliably excellent pizza, with the $8 margherita — served before 6 p.m. — as an especially enticing lunchtime draw. But many of the pies on the menu are winners, like the bacon and goat cheese with leeks and caramelized onions. Indoor and patio dining are available, or grab a pie to go and match it with a thrilling beer a few doors down at AleFire." - Nathan Williams, Eater Staff

"Outside of happy hour, a margherita pizza for one at the casually rustic Life of Pie costs $15, but during happy hour, that drops down to just $8 — with the optional add-on of a $6 beer or wine. The best part? Happy hour runs every day for seven whole hours, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. It’s best eaten on the patio of the restaurant, as the extra-thin crust doesn’t hold up to travel for long." - Katrina Yentch, Eater Staff

Google
Casual and delicious spot for pizza. It’s an order at the counter and seat yourself situation, but the vibe is super cozy. Don’t sleep on the kale salad- it might be my favorite I’ve tried off the menu! Every pizza we’ve had is also great. Crust is the perfect blend of crispy and chewy. It’s one of my default dinner spots in the neighborhood!

Google
Life of Pie Pizza in Portland is hands-down one of the best spots for pizza lovers! From the moment you walk in, you're greeted with the warm and inviting aroma of wood-fired pizzas. Their crust is simply divine-perfectly charred and chewy with just the right amount of crisp. The star of the menu is their Margherita pizza, which highlights the quality of their fresh ingredients, but honestly, you can't go wrong with anything here. The seasonal specials are always worth a try, showcasing creative toppings that blend beautifully. Beyond the food, the atmosphere is casual and friendly, making it an excellent choice for a relaxed evening with friends or family. Plus, their happy hour deal is unbeatable-delicious wood-fired pizzas at a great price! Whether you're a local or visiting Portland, Life of Pie is a must-visit for an unforgettable pizza experience.

Found this on yelp while on a break for my son's basketball tournament and let me tell you all... this was the best pizza place we have had in a very longtime! We order 3 different types of pizza that we custom ourselves and a small Caesar. We were so disappointed we didn't order a large salad because it was so yummy!!! The place is small so the only issue we had was seating but we sat at the bar which is right in front of them making dough and pizza's. We thought it would be an issue but it was not at all. They were so kind and friendly to us. We felt very comfortable sitting there. The street parking was a little difficult at 5pm. Food came out in perfect timing. The taste of the bread was cooked to perfection. We loved everything. I HIGHLY recommend trying this place. Best wood fire pizza!

Stopped by on a rainy Saturday afternoon and was able to get a table on the spot. The atmosphere was nice and relaxed and the servers were friendly and efficient. I ordered a pizza and when I went to sit down I saw someone with the kale salad and had to order one. It was such a delicious salad! The kale was shredded and fluffy, there was arugula in it as well. Dressed simply with a lemon vinegarette, toasted bread crumbs and super thinly grated cheese. We did a build your own pizza with, pepperoni, anchovies, mushrooms, caramelized onions and garlic. The flavors worked well together with their homemade sauce. The crust was flavourful and had the perfect chewy, crispy texture. I didn't try any of the alcohol but I did get a fountain soda and was pleasantly surprised that the offerings were all real cane sugar soda. I will go back to this place in the future it was a wonderful meal.

Google
Great pizza!! What more can you say? The carmelized onion and goat cheese pizza was a fav, as well as the classic marg

Google
Thin, crispy and chewy crust, all the three flavors are so delicious! Very family friendly too, highly recommended for pizza lovers!👍

Google
Thought I’d give this place a try. I ordered one of their mushroom truffle pizzas which was pretty tasty. Just wish there was more topping. Nice crust on that one, not too thin and pretty tasty. I also picked up on same trip a ‘happy hour’ margherita which was unimpressive. Very thin crust and sparse toppings. Flavor was good but I wouldn’t order that again. Had a kale & arugula salad which was however I wouldn’t order that again either because of the dressing which had a sweet vinegar flavor that didn’t pair well with the salad greens. Salad greens were fresh and plentiful. Probably will stick with another pizza place I’ve been going to for years which is quite a bit of a further drive but worth it and satisfying. Nice staff.

Google
Highly recommend stopping in on a sunny day for lunch or dinner. They open the doors up and offer a nice selection of food and local drinks. The staff is friendly and the layout is fun having the big pizza oven visible to the whole dining area. The Cesar Salad and the Margherita pizza are a must. They offer fresh Parmesan cheese and chili oil to go along with the pizza.

Yelp
I came here for a light dinner one day and had a great pizza! Walking into the restaurant, they're pretty spacious. They have bar seating and plenty of table seating for parties of different sizes. Their menu offers appetizers, pizzas, spaghetti, and the ability to make your own pizza. You order at the counter before sitting, and they bring it out to you once it's done. I ordered a half Caramelized Onions, Goat Cheese, and Garlic Confit + half Margherita pizza. I really loved the option to try two different pizzas by splitting them in half. The margherita was a classic and very good. However, the other half with the caramelized onions, goat cheese, and garlic confit was phenomenal. The flavors were so rich and fragrant that I could have a whole pizza alone. Highly recommend this spot and for anyone to try the pizza with caramelized onions and garlic.

Yelp
True to consistent pizza ~ char, cheese & chew. Service is smiley whether dine in or take out. Fresh taps always rotating. HH is a happy time ~ $8 margherita & $6 pints having you order double and eating double!

Matthew B.

Yelp
Wow. Truly amazed that my go-to pizza joint when I visit portland has devolved into what I experienced tonight. The Caesar salad, for two would barely feed one, there was more bread cubes than lettuce- plus it was devoid of the anchovies that I ordered and paid for. Their Pizza, which is normally served with the crispy crust Neapolitan style woodfired, was a soggy mess. It was an abomination in every variation that we purchased. I couldn't find the bacon on my pizza. I guess it was great while it lasted. there will be no going back - rest in peace, life of pi.

Helena L.

Yelp
Friendly service, pleasant ambience, and the ability to substitute vegan cheese for any of their delicious and unique pizza offerings.

Patricia W.

Yelp
We were in Portland for a show and came here for dinner. We split the Caesar salad which was one of the best I've had in a while. My husband ordered the mushroom pizza and I got fennel sausage. My pizza was great and tasted amazing. My husbands came out pretty burned. We were in a rush so we didn't say anything but we will be back as overall it was good. The staff was friendly and I'm sure would have made it right. Cute set up with indoor or outside seating.

Daniel A.

Yelp
Bye-bye Miss American Pie... Stopped in on a suggestion from a local Yelper. Tried the Margherita Pizza during happy hour. Really soft easy for one person to eat, or two if you want to spit it. Definitely use the chili oil that's on the table. I should have added jalapeños just because I like it really spicy. Tip: Dine in for Happy Hour from 11am to 6pm $8 Margherita Pizza Served As Is (Dine in Only)  $6 House Beer and Wine I love when I can just park on the street nearby. They have non alcoholic beer as well. They have very friendly service and you either Indoor or outdoor service. Enjoy the outdoor seating with a drink especially on a warm sunny day.

Jackie M.

Yelp
Really good pizza and salads! The service is fast and helpful. It's an order at the counter set up, and the woman at the counter was super helpful. The dining room isn't anything special, but I was happy that there was no wait on Saturday at dinner time.

Xavier I.

Yelp
Thursday 9/21/23 I heard about this spot from my aunt (Portland native) who raved about this place for their great pizza so we decided that that would be the dinner plan. We went with a party of 4 and decided to sit down and eat at the restaurant. I tried the arugula & kale salad, fennel sausage pizza, pepperoni pizza, and the Margherita pizza. I had a little bit of the kale salad and it was decent. The pizzas were all solid but nothing special to me. The pizzas are personal pizzas so that's 4 slices per pizza and they are pretty expensive (around $15 for 1 pizza). My experience didn't quite match up with the hype my aunt created but it was still a solid experience.

Thuy N.

Yelp
I originally was going to try another popular pizza place but opted to try this place because their toppings were more of my liking. Now I'm a pineapple on her pizza kind of gal but wanted a mushroom pizza since it's in season apparently. Ended up making my own with anchovies, arugula (MIA), caramelized onions, & seasonal mushrooms. Loved the saltiness of the anchovies paired with the sweetness of the onions. Wish it had some greens to cut back some of the richness of the pizza. I got it delivered so it wasn't extra crispy as I ordered it. I got a side of their hot chili oil but it was more oil than chili garlic tasting. Definitely will try it in house instead of delivery next time. Thanks for the pie!

Liam W.

Yelp
Delicious pizza! Simple menu and a nicely varied selection of fun drinks. The salad is perfectly made. Nice service and good energy. I love coming here! Date night vibes. Good ambiance. Playlists can be a little intense.

Ashton P.

Yelp
We ate here with our friend and really enjoyed the vegan cashew cheese on our pizza. We got our pizza very fast and it was delicious! Also loved the Jones Soda dispenser.

Jen B.

Yelp
I was craving pizza, consulted Yelp, and it led me to Life of Pie. They serve Neopolitan-style pizzas, which are made with top-quality ingredients. Their dough is house-made and fresh with just the right amount of salt; our pies had the perfect degree of char and the sauce has a subtle zing which compliments the toppings perfectly :-) We went for a post-HH dinner and tried two pies - one with custom toppings and one of their Margheritas (mozzarella, marinara, fresh basil). Both pies tasted wonderful, and had optimal chew. Surprisingly enough, the "less is more" rule applied - my favorite of the two pies was the Margherita, hands down! Tip: Adding spicy chili oil to the Margherita elevates the flavor profile to a higher level :-) Service was efficient, fast and friendly; the ambiance was both cozy and inviting; the prices are extremely reasonable too. To sum it all up, if you're craving some exceptional Neoplitan pies, head to Life of Pie and go get your pie on!

Yelp
I ordered dinner off DoorDash while in Portland on a work trip. I always have high expectations for Portland and spent time carefully reviewing feedback. This was an excellent choice! In fact, possibly the best pizza I've had in Portland. I ordered the margarita pizza with added pepperoni and mozzarella. I also asked that it be cooked "crispy". I had to order a Cesar salad as well. Oh my goodness- this was perfectly cooked for me. It had some char without being burnt like I love. The pizza was so good and a good size so I have leftovers for breakfast! The salad was very good, although nothing compared to that beautiful pizza. I can't recommend this place enough and I don't think I'll be eating any other pizza when I'm visiting Portland.

Aaron A.

Yelp
Delicious brick oven pizza in a cozy location. Service was fast and friendly. Glad we stopped here!

Yelp
We (group of 12) came a couple of days after Christmas. It was a quick meeting plan so we had to think of a place that can accommodate a walk in where 4/12 were adults and the children ranged between 8-18. The order process was easy. We ordered at the counter, paid all together and headed to a table that they were courteous enough to reserve as they saw the large walk in party enter. The long table was enough for us to be able to be together, see each other and have a great lasting memory to celebrate being together. The pizza's were great, no complaints from anyone. There were a couple of other orders like pasta, and they were good as well. They also serve beer and wine. Great casual time. Thanks Life of Pie for being a vessel for a good time. Will see you again.

Brea G.

Yelp
This was my first time eating here and I absolutely LOVED it! I was craving pizza ALL day and was extremely pleased this was a place of choice. The small Caesar salad was amazingggg and definitely enough to share for two. The pizza was very delicious as well but the only thing I disliked was that some of the parts tasted just a little tooooo burnt for me. Other than that I thought it was great as well. Definitely go during happy hour if you're looking for a great bite on a budget. The pizza and salad cost us about $17-20 !

Anthony B.

Yelp
Life is pie. We came all the way from California for just one more slice, but that led to several more slices, and several more trips for more slices. It never ends. We might just need to move to Portland. The crust is always crisp on the bottom and perfectly chewy, and my kids cannot get enough of the Ravioli. This place is a must stop if you are in Oregon. Don't be stupid... Get some pizza.

Holly C.

Yelp
Ordered delivery to our hotel. Quick service, food arrived hot. Really tasty toppings and tender crust.

Jose Q.

Yelp
Checked out this pizza spot upon recommendation from our airbnb host and while our Margherita pizza wasn't bad in taste, it was immensely burnt and not up to par with expectation. As for the service, I would describe as mediocre at best. There didn't seem to be much joy or excitement upon taking our order nor did they seem interested in engaging with us whatsoever. Not much friendliness from anyone here on a lovely Tuesday afternoon/early evening. The ambience and environment were average and nothing truly stood out. I might give this another try while I'm here, but with so many other options to choose from, I'm not sure I'm inclined to do so.

Terry M.

Yelp
Excellent pizza! Reminds me of German Flammkuchen. Great waitstaff'. Very friendly. I wanted to sit in the outdoor booths, but my whiny millennial was tired of the sun because we were at the track (PIR) all day. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Even saw a doppelgänger of a friend working there.

Jason S.

Yelp
We came here last night on a whim and so glad we did. Inside this place is very quaint but has a good amount of room to spread out. We had a little bigger of a party and they were able to make it work. The employees as well were super nice and friendly and answered any questions that we had. Plus a pretty decent beer, wine, hard seltzer selection. For food they have some pre-select pizza options and while a few people went that way me and a few coworkers went rogue and made out own. I had the pepperoni, fennel sausage, goat cheese, peppers and mushroom pizza along with a cesar salad. They cook all their pizzas in a high temp brick oven and I was truly blown away at the flavor and taste. The pizzas reminded me of something you would get in Italy and more individualized. With that being the case everyone except for a few polished off theirs. That's not to say that those that did felt over stuffed but well worth it. This was such and awesome experience and I wished I had a joint like this close to my house. I would highly recommend anyone local or visiting to visit this place! Thanks for an awesome experience....

Tammie W.

Yelp
Honest talk. I was not in the mood when my husband and I walked up because this was our 3rd choice for dinner. Then we walk in, weren't really greeted and just stared at until we realized we had to order first and then we'd be seated. The food, comfy wooden booth and jones soda turned that frown upside down. The Caesar came first which was piled high, looked severely overdressed but was so good, refreshing, salty from the anchovies and loaded with finely grated Parmesan. Then came the pizza which was nicely charred from the wood stove, crust had a nice bite to it, marinara and cheese sang songs in my mouth and the pepperoni provided a nice fatty richness. Most surprising though was the spaghetti. It was so simple but the star of the night. The pasta was perfectly cooked and had a lovely chew to it while soaking up the tomato marinara that it was tossed in and topped with Parmesan and parsley. We are every last bite of it and said we'd go back just for the salad and pasta again. The pizza was good too but that pasta was on point.

Lauren C.

Yelp
First time & Yum! Kids loved the raviolis fried to perfection, the Jones Sodas, and $8 happy hour cheese pizza. I had a the Fennel sausage with Mama Lil's Peppers pizza, and a tasty hard cider. Both the pizzas had great flavor and a crisp wood oven thin crust with dreamy slightly charred bubbles on the top crust... just how I like it. Great service, friendly staff, welcoming and clean.

Jay S.

Yelp
Very disappointing, the food was pretty average tasting. I really don't get how this is on some of the same lists as some of the other amazing pizza places in Portland. The Fried Ravioli was terrible, it literally felt like something that was microwaved from a frozen bag, the dipping sauce was also lacking any real flavor. The margarita pizza was okay, but far from any of the other amazing spots in Portland that offer a similar pizza (the one highlight is that you can get it on the happy hour special for only $8). The service was average just like ambiance. Unless you live nearby or already like this place, I would skip and try a spot like Reeva, Rach Pizza, or Baby Doll Pizza.

Joyce R.

Yelp
This is our 2nd time here. (also 2nd time in Portland). We went before the pandemic in 2018. So glad to know this place stayed open. Ambiance was amazing. I love the industrial feel. Service was amazing! Our server checked in on us a few times. She was on it. Food, oh my my it was D-licious! I got the spaghetti with sausage and mushrooms and my fiancé got a whole pizza.

Matthew D.

Yelp
The vibes were pretty good, we really liked the layout and look of the place. Service was relatively normal so nothing too crazy at all. The food was decent, I found that the pizza was a bit thin towards the middle and the edges seemed a bit too burnt in my opinion compared to other places which rlly contributed overall to the experience, overall an enjoyable time for sure tho!

Yvette G.

Yelp
The place was not very busy quite empty from what I had expected there was no wait to order at all and plenty of seating options available. I came in with a group of 5 and we ordered quite a bit so a couple of the pizzas came out wrong missing ingredients, the pizza overall was pretty good I wouldn't say it is the best I've had in the city but I would go again if in the area! Some of the pizzas were charred a bit more than we would have liked but overall this place is pretty good.

Ernie L.

Yelp
The 6th best pizza within a mile of my house. I know that doesn't sound great but it still is very good and I recommend coming here. Great for bringing kids/friends for a quick piece of pizza. The toasted raviolis are amazing. They also have a really good happy hour. Unfortunately for them there is 1) lovely's 50/50. 2) The 1905. 3) Cafe Olli. 4) Tartuga. 5) Mississippi Pizza.

Gavin J.

Yelp
If you're looking for a great wood fire pizza look no further. We got our self the salami, Mama Lil's Peppers, goat cheese, honey as picture below. Pizza has the perfect crisp all the way around. The salami and the honey went together really well. The service was excellent. We were greeted upon entry and we're even checked in on a few times to make sure everything was up to our standards.

K N.

Yelp
Very delicious pizza. The kale salad is surprisingly good. Slightly sweet dressing with bright flavors. usually a couple decent beers on tap.

Will K.

Yelp
First time here and we were super impressed! They had happy hour deals, pizza tasted great, service was super friendly. We will definitely be back next time we're nearby.

Christina A.

Yelp
Decently priced but kinda meh. I got the Margarita Pizza and it was too charred and didn't seem to have a lot flavor. I got the kale salad and it's pretty much just chopped kale lol.

Emily A.

Yelp
Visited 10/20/23. Life of Pie pizza crushed the game. We did street parking nearby and did a walk in (they did not take reservations). Seating was a free for all so we were able to grab a small table for my friend and I. It was pretty busy but this ebbed and flowed as the night went on. We split the arugula kale salad full size, the margherita pizza (on happy hour so this was a steal), and an order of the homemade spaghetti. The salad was gigantic so it would be a good starter or shareable. Good lemon dressing on top which was very flavorful. My food highlight was definitely the spaghetti-sauce that reminded me of my Italian grandmother's cooking. A definite must order. The pizza was solid and had all the flavor I would expect from margherita pizza with fresh mozzarella and basil. Good cook on the crust. This is a great stop for a solid slightly fast casual but sit down meal. Definitely recommend

Liz C.

Yelp
Pizza and pasta were good. After visiting Italy, I can say that I know a good pasta when I have one. My daughters had the spicy marinara spaghetti w/some olive and mushrooms, and the fried ravioli. Husband had the pizza with salami and honey (12"). Shared a bit of every item we ordered and was content with each. Caesar salad is actually good as well. Restaurant has indoor (w/a soft light ambience) and outdoor seating. I would definitely return.

Jessica S.

Yelp
Love the happy hour from 11am-6pm! Really coming here alone for the hour happy is enough to satisfy my pizza craving. You get a margarita pizza for $7 bucks and one dollar of alcohol. My spouse and I both ordered our own pizza and shared the kale arugula salad. Everything was top notch. This is bus yourself type of establishment, which really takes the edge off having a server. When you walk-in you immediately are greeted with an order counter. You place your order, you are given a number, and then your food is brought out to you. The flavor of the sauce that is accompanied on the pizza is freaking delicious. I could drink a cup of the tomato sauce, it's not too acidic and not too sweet. It's absolutely perfect. I'm also a sucker for wood fired pizza and this place takes the cake.

Justin H.

Yelp
Excellent pizza in the Portland area. Would easily say it's in the Top 3 best pizzas, locally. We will definitely be back!

Felicity T.

Yelp
Ordered the Margherita pizza extra crispy but it was still very soggy. The arugula salad was nice but needed a topping of salt and black pepper.

Alyssa K.

Yelp
BEST HAPPY HOUR 11-6PM $8 Margherita pizza. Decent size and it comes with oil and Parmesan shavings. The crust is thin and crispy - perfection!

Funny L.

Yelp
If you like burned food, this place is for you! One must actually ask them not to burn the pizza in order to have a chance. Pizza is basically serviceable.

Bea B.

Yelp
So good, I had to take a whole pizza all the way to California! Got quite the attention in the airport and on the airplane-- free advertising, but so worth it. Ok, now to the part where I talk about the food. The kale salad was delish-- got the large size and shared with my co-worker. Gobbled it up before the pizza arrived. I had the Margherita pizza and it's one of the best I've had. The crust was thin and crispy, and the tomato sauce was delicious with a burst of flavor with every chew, simplicity and deliciousness it's best. The mushroom pizza was equally delicious. I'd order all the above again and again and again.

Bob R.

Yelp
This is a review by a vegetarian Still excellent consistent quasi Neapolitan pizza. Happy hour is up to $7 but that's eminently reasonable

Kendra C.

Yelp
Very good wood fire pizza! We decided to customize a pizza to our liking. Got sausage, pepperoni, mushrooms & olives. Also got the cheese bread. We loved every bite!

Brittney K.

Yelp
Stopped by for a quick bite before my daughters cheer competition. She wanted pizza so we decided to check it out! Delicious and fresh ingredients. I love my crust thicker but it's still good! It wasn't busy either but the lunch rush was slowly making their way in. We ordered "Crete your own" pizza and you just add whatever toppings you like. I got pepperoni and honey on one side of my pizza but I didn't taste it. Still good though. My daughter is a thin crust eater and she loved her pizza! Garlic was a great option to add as well lots of flavor. They have a Nice drink menu too with ciders etc.

Karina B.

Yelp
Food service and ambiance! Hot and stuffy in the restaurant, the worst part were the flies ... horrible. I will never go back!

Benjamin S.

Yelp
Ate out on the patio recently on a warm winter night, so I was the only one out there but I had my dog so it was nice to enjoy some quality pizza with my pet along. The outdoor space is nice and spacious and festive with the lights. Hope they keep it all the time. I was there for happy hour so got a red wine and ordered the seasonal mushroom pizza. Overall I was happy with the service and dinner. The pizza wasn't the greatest but the dough had a nice chew and taste. All the ingredients were fresh but I felt it would have been better if the cheese on top was melted but it seemed like it was added on after the bake. Still, this is a nice casual and friendly spot for some pie if you're in the neighborhood (which actually I was because of a vet appointment nearby).

Kristi A.

Yelp
This review is for the vegan pizza. I was unimpressed with it. The dough was good but everything else was meh. I paid extra for a few pieces of mushrooms. The service was okay and the ambience was great. Not the best location for large groups.

Christine C.

Yelp
Out of this world!!!! Must have the oil on the pizza!!!! Special oil made in house!!!! Ah-mazing!!!!

Isel P.

Yelp
Absolutely perfect. The crust was doughy and crispy at the same time! Our margherita pizza was simple and delicious. The mushroom pizza also decadent and perfect!

Dave W.

Yelp
We had a great time at Life of Pie. There were eight of us. Making a reservation was easy and the table was ready 10 minutes early. We had 6 pizzas total (two margarita, a bacon feta and leek and a couple of custom). They were all tasty with excellent crust. We also got a Caesar salad which was excellent as well. Great service and a fun crowd.
