Wine shop & bar offering weekly tastings & other events in a contemporary space with patio seating.
"Natural wines take center stage at this hip and cozy Montrose hangout, but unlike other wine shops, menus aren’t a given. Instead, knowledgeable bartenders make a recommendation based on your taste. Tell them what you like, and then sample one to two wines before settling on the perfect glass." - Brittany Britto Garley
"Ask for a drink list at Light Years, and the bartenders will give you a funny look. As Montrose’s only fully natural wine bar, of course, there’s no physical list. And while a lot of people scattered around the bungalow bar might flex their knowledge of natural winemakers, it’s more than okay if you don’t. Just shout over whatever atonal world pop music is blaring through the speakers and let the bartender know what you like and don’t. They’ll pour you different, slightly funky wines to choose from before you squeeze into one of the tiny tables inside or stretch out on the patio." - chelsea thomas, gianni greene, julie takahashi
"Taking your date to Light Years, a brutally hip natural wine bar in Montrose, shows you mean business—if your business is developing and dissolving situationships on a weekly basis. You probably just got done silently sizing each other up while shuffling around the Menil galleries, so it only makes sense to walk over to Light Years and pop open a bottle of Slovenian orange wine or some funky chilled French red. Stretch out on the string-light lit patio, or squeeze into the small bar. You’ll be cool, and full of excellent wine, no matter when you shack up." - chelsea thomas
"A wine bar developed by Alex Jackson in the Montrose area." - Megha McSwain
"Being a brutally hip wine bar and shop in Montrose is tough, which is why Light Years doesn’t label any of the wine for sale on its shelves. Who’s got the time to write all that information down when you’re slinging bottles of Slovenian orange wine or pouring some funky chilled French red by the glass. Luckily, even if you don’t have a list of obtuse natural winemakers cataloged permanently in your head, whatever you pull off the shelves or are suggested by the bartender will probably be pretty good, if not slightly weird. Just squeeze into one of their tiny tables or stretch out on the string-light lit patio. Here you’re cool by association. " - Chelsea Thomas
