12 Best New Bars to Try in San Francisco Right Now

"Lilah is a new bar in the Marina that’s located just two doors down from its sister restaurant, Causwells. Yes, cocktails are low-ABV, but the drinks pack a punch of a different kind: they’re all playful drinks that work in plenty of flavors. The most attractive drink will most likely be the kakigori cocktails based on the Japanese shaved ice dessert, featuring piles of fluffy, snow-like shaved ice topped with a colorful drink and accouterments. If this sounds up your alley, try their red sangria made with red wine, cold brew, spiced apple, and pomegranate." - Dianne de Guzman

Lilah - Review - Marina - San Francisco - The Infatuation

"Lilah does maximalist cocktails with minimal booze—so when you want non-alcoholic or low-ABV drinks that involve a mountain of shaved ice or an edible paper floater emblazoned with a comic book-font “BOOM”, this is the place. The Marina cocktail bar from the same people behind Causwells, which is right next door, also serves a small menu of Asian small plates like Vietnamese fresh rolls and Korean ribs (skip the pork belly bao that are too tough to bite into). The photogenic cocktails themselves vary in success. The Easy Tiger is a smooth, tangy, passionfruit-y hit topped with popping boba. But the Key Lime Pie kakigori, while pretty to look at, ends up just tasting like melted ice with Nilla Wafer crumbs. Use this place as a jumping-off spot before a full dinner in the area, or whenever you’re going dry and want a drink that’s a little more fun than a Shirley Temple. photo credit: Nicola Parisi photo credit: Nicola Parisi photo credit: Nicola Parisi" - Julia Chen

San Francisco’s New Restaurant Openings

"The team behind Causwells has opened a bar in the Marina with 24 low-ABV cocktails. There are just two seats at the bar, but there are plenty of dining tables, banquettes, and a parklet. Lilah bills itself as the first bar in the Bay Area to serve shaved ice kakigōri cocktails. Other low-proof drinks feature fruits like watermelon and calamansi as well as creative riffs on classics like a phở margarita and white-pepper infused bloody mary. Also find bar bites like Taiwanese pork belly buns and bánh mì, as well as weekend brunch with heartier dishes like congee and a scallion pancake wrap." - ricky rodriguez, julia chen 1

My friend says: 1. “I larb larb!” (The beef larb lettuce wraps to be exact and I agree) And 2. If i give this food less than a five I’m crazy. For an NA drink the mingle was really good though probably not to everyone’s taste. Sweet and then a bitter that hits you hard at the end.

Google
We had such a great experience! What a great find, Asian flair in the Marina. We shared lots of plates, and nothing disappoints. The spring rolls, duck tacos, and noodles stood out as extra amazing. And you Must try the espresso martini!

Google
Really fun cocktails, a solid food menu and decent execution across the board. I had a non-alcoholic French 75 which was really well done, as well as trying a few of my friends' cocktails -- everything was very, very good. It was a really fun night out and we'll definitely be back.

Google
Enormous list of cocktails for every pallet in this cute bar. We ordered the Jungle Birdie and easy tiger. The Jungle Birdie came in a fun parrot tiki mug and was described by the server as a piña colada adjacent choice. The easy tiger came garnished with fruity boba, sprinkled with black sesame on its foamy top, and was described as a less sweet creamsicle. Small bites inspired by south East Asian cuisine to compliment

Came for brunch on a sunny day. Bahn mi is excellent - want to have the scallion wrap with Chinese sausage but sold out ! Will have to come back to try tht drinks !

If you want a good cocktail and decent food, don't come here because they don't have them. Pre-mixed cocktail for $18 , and a single cold spring roll for $12, white poke - where is the fish, couldn't find any, only cucumbers, pork belly bun- dry, just dry... My friend tried to order her drink without one of the ingredients, and they said the cocktails comes as pre-mixed ... Sad ... We went to another place after this to have normal food and drink. Servicers were nice and kind, that sums up to 2 stars

Cozy spot! We ordered drinks and the brussel sprouts.

We are so excited Lilah has opened! The cocktails were super yummy and innovative - we found ourselves ooh-ing and aah-ing over our neighbors drinks. The same goes for the food! We loved the duck tacos, the papaya salad, and the poké! We enjoyed the outdoor seating on this warm evening. Already looking forward to our next visit

Yelp
Love the shaved ice cocktails and unique drink menu at Lilah! Food is on the smaller menu selection side, good for sharing and a light meal It's small inside with 1 wait staff and a small kitchen, but not a long wait for anything. Outdoor patio and seating available.

Yelp
A tad bit late on the Friendsgiving dinner but we made it outside of the group chat. Sister restaurant of Causwells in Oakland. Location Marina, SF. The streets were cracking on a Friday night with tons of patrons walking or eating at several restaurant. To my surprise Lilah was a small restaurant which had a park-let outside as an extension. Asian cuisines listed on the menu and what made this unique spot different were their specialty handcrafted drinks. Friendly staff and delicious eats! Definitely would recommend.

Yelp
We came after eating dinner at ILCHA! It's a small space and the decor is nice. It was mostly empty when we arrived on a Saturday night at about 8 pm ish. We only got drinks and my wife and friends liked their drinks, but I'll go a bit in depth about mine: I got the pho margarita purely because of how interesting it sounds. I'd say presentation wise, it was pretty good. Smell wise, it did smell like pho, but taste was, it was OK? It was just sour with a hint of pho smell. Idk how to describe it. It was OK in my opinion. Not too savory. Service was also ok. Lukewarm as some folks were nice while a few weren't too nice as when we tried to hand over the check, an employee just walked right by us without glancing at us. Eh. Vibes were off there. But when we interacted with other employees they were nice! Overall an OK experience but the decor is super nice.

Yelp
Not too long ago, Asian kids were embarrassed of their "stinky" or "weird" thermos or tupperware lunch. Now, the "funk" is trendy and is getting the recognition they deserve! Lilah drew me in with their creative menu offerings - phở margherita, salt & pepper wing cocktail, and kakigōri cocktails, anyone? Opening in late September, Lilah is Causwell's sister low-abv cocktail bar. Open for indoor dining and dog-friendly outdoor dining. No rezzies, walk-in only. M E N U Classic and creative cocktails using low abv vodka, gin, tequila, run, whiskey, etc. ($15-$18). Beer, wine, and no abv drinks available. For food, they have an array of Pan-Asian/Asian-inspired brunch and dinner items ($8-$19). 5% SF Employer Mandate. D R I N K * Strawberry Hill Kakigōri: IP White Rum w/ thai basil, strawberry, blanco vermouth, saline, pandan, strawberry bloomed chia seeds ($18): https://tinyurl.com/bdfcryfp Inspired by Japanese shaved ice, my fav part was the crown of fluffy soft shaved ice with larger pieces of ice for a textural contrast. Unfortunately, I found the cocktail underneath too sweet (didn't taste the pandan or thai basil) so I just ate the shaved ice. F O O D * White Poke: Kampachi w/ cucumber, mango, watermelon radish ($18): https://tinyurl.com/y2f5t67z Best dish of the night! Refreshing starter with buttery hamachi cubes complemented by the tart sweetness of the mango puree. Served with crunchy fried rice paper as a vessel. * Korean Pork Ribs w/ geotjeori slaw, peanut crunch ($19): https://tinyurl.com/u5xznuee Fav part was the crisp kimchi-like slaw. The deboned ribs were dry and IMO, tasted more like Chinese x Thai fusion than Korean. * Spicy Chilled Thai Noodles w/ bell pepper, herbs, peanuts, lilah sauce ($14): https://tinyurl.com/tssvxwrs The not spicy peanut noodles was hella salty. I tried to neutralize it with the tableside chili vinegar and chili oil but it was still too salty to enjoy. * Beef Larb Skewers w/ quick pickle, glaze ($16): https://tinyurl.com/mrywr9mj Least fav item, the tsukune/kofte like ground beef skewers were dry and dense. Other than being very salty, I wasn't getting sour spicy larb vibes from it. S E R V I C E Friendly, upbeat service from our server(s). Prompt drink and food service (visited before 5 pm). A M B I A N C E Cozy, whimsical vibes - handful of tables inside with counter seating and five tables outdoor (sidewalk and parklet). Hip hop playing (Nas). P A R K I N G Very difficult street parking. Nearest garage is around the corner on Pierce. Overall, I know they're brand new and the food is Asian-inspired but the flavors didn't hit for us. Regardless, Lilah is def going to be the new hot spot in The Marina for their instagrammable low-abv cocktails!

Yelp
I really wanted to like this place, but for 5 small dishes and 4 drinks our total came out to over $200, which I think is absurd. I went to copra the other day, and for 2 drinks and 6 large dishes (we had leftovers) our total came out to $170 including tip. Mind you Copra is on the Michelin guide. For starters I never understood the appeal of low proof cocktails. All of their drinks range from $16-21 which is pretty standard in the city but when you serve low proof alcohol, it should be a little less. We ordered the bao buns, duck tacos and papaya salad. The bao buns were really chewy, had no flavor or sauce. The duck tacos were tiny and super dry but greasy at the same time?? The only good thing was the papaya salad which requires no actual cooking. Service was mid. They sat us at the most awkward table for a 4 top, yet had a party of 2 at a large 6 top table. I get the appeal of the place, intimate, chic decor. But overall, save your money and time, there are so many better restaurants in SF. I don't know why the Marina even attempts Asian food, it falls flat every time.

Yelp
Came here for someone's private event so your (reader) experience might be different. The interior is small but really cute. The ceilings are tall so it doesn't feel claustrophobic when you walk in. By the time I got there, the cold items were already out (and maybe 1 hot item) so I can't advise on food service time but for drinks, they came out relatively quickly. They have non-alcoholic options. I think all the menu items we tried were good. Were they the best Vietnamese food I've had? No. But I don't think that's who they're trying to be. Most of the food was flavored well. I will say the spring roll was a little disappointing because the rice paper wrap was still a little tough (the water probably wasn't hot enough when they tried to soften the rice paper). Overall, I think it's a great addition to this neighborhood and I have high hopes that they'll continue to improve.

Yelp
This is a fun new spot next to causwells and owned by them. Not necessarily a dinner spot but they have shareable plates. Much more of a cocktails and snacks. It's really cute inside with a small amount of seating and more outdoor seating! We got the mellow mock tail and it was delicious! All the food was yummy and service was great. They take reservations on resy:) Overall a fun spot for drinks and a light bite.

Yelp
Stopped in for a night cap after a meal at Causewells fairly early on a Friday (maybe around 9pm?) and the bartender/hostess seemed to be undecided as to whether or not we could be seated as they were potentially closing. Causewells team just opened this establishment so totally get that theyre still working out ops and look forward to revisiting for a meal (Instagram posts are praising their menu!). We both ordered a cocktail - I love the Lichtenstein appeal in his (bourbon?) drink. Their food styling is on point from what Ive seen and like I said, looking forward to giving them a proper shot sometime soon. The decor felt like a an Gatsby-esque art nouveau Moroccan vibe .. if that tracks ;). Fun date spot, very tiny, book in advance if you can.

Yelp
Come here for craft low ABV cocktails and mocktails. Stopped in for drinks. I was excited about a low ABV bar. I had the lemongrass negroni. It tasted like a Negroni with some juice in it. I wasn't getting the lemongrass at all but it was still good. The prices were very expensive $17 for a cocktail. To me part of the appeal is getting two since you're not drunk from low ABV. But they're so expensive that it's not really appealing. The food menu sounded really good. I'm excited to try their food next time. The service was very good. Also it's extremely cute inside. I know they just opened so I will comeback and try more things.

Yelp
Lilah just opened the past weekend and is such a cute bar with good bites! They're the sister restaurant to Causwells, and have really tasty and creative low ABV cocktail options. They even had a pho margarita which I would definitely try next time. For food I tried the skewers and cold noodles, which were pretty decent for bar bites. Love the Asian theme for the bites. The service was also super friendly and checking up on us. Would definitely come back to try more of their cocktails.

Yelp
Fun place! Welcome to the neighborhood Lilah! Currently no website or phone number & no reservations so it's walk in only. They've been open for a week & I stopped by for icy cocktails during the week on a hot day & visited for brunch yesterday. My friend & I are fans of Causewells & were excited when Lilah finally opened. They have a variety of cocktails available including non-alcoholic cocktails. On my first visit, I had the watermelon Kakigori which was refreshing & fun. It's shaved ice on top of a cocktail. I lived in Hawaii for 14 years & this reminded me of the shave ice from Waiola or Matsumoto's, with fluffy & delicate ice crystals that's easy to eat/drink. I had brunch yesterday & started out with the Key Lime Kakigori cocktail (I'm a fan of them now) & my friend had the Lilah spritz. Both drinks were delicious. We shared the spring rolls (features smoked tofu as the protein), pork belly buns, duck tacos, white poke & breakfast wrap). We agreed that the pork belly buns was our favorite dish, with the most flavor. The spring rolls & white poke were light starters & we felt that the poke could use a touch of salt (usually soy sauce/shoyu is used to prepare traditional poke but would change the color of the dish). I liked the little duck tacos, tender meat in a flaky taco shell. The breakfast wrap was good but had a kick (some chilies were added). Excellent service from Ashley on both of my visits. It's a very cute space & surprising that it was previously The Ocularium (eye glass shop).

Yelp
A very small restaurant with Asian inspired dishes & cocktails. I love the creativity of Lilah. For drinks, we ordered the lemongrass Negroni & pho margarita, both very refreshing however the margarita was a bit lacking on the pho flavors. We also ordered the jerky, pork belly bao, & duck tacos. The jerky was not my favorite as it was pretty tough to chew (floss was definitely needed). The bao was good but I wish it had more sauce and the duck tacos were my favorite. The shell was crunchy and the meat was super moist.

Yelp
The service here was really great and the aesthetic inside is really cute and chic! The look of the menu was also super unique but difficult to actually flip the pages. We ordered two kakigoris - the strawberry hill and a seasonal strawberry with no alcohol. Both were beautiful to look at but were kind of difficult to eat without making a mess so make sure to have napkins! Between the two, our whole group strongly preferred the nonalcoholic version as we felt the strawberry hill had too strong of an alcoholic flavor for our preference.

Yelp
This is completely based on the experience we had with the waitlist and not the food, service, or location. We arrived at 6:30 and of course it's prone Friday night without a reservation. We we just walking by and it looked good, but to be honest, there's some many places on chestnut that also look good on a Friday night. It was cold. We saw two tables with reservation signs. So asked about a table inside. The person who checked us in said if the waitlist people don't show in fifteen minutes you can sit there. She added us to the waitlist and I got the text saying I would be notified. She even said my first and last name because I guess I was in the system. She says it could be about 30 minutes and she'd let us know. We walked around. After 30 minutes, we didn't hear so went to another place down the street and were seated right away. I never got a text that our table was ready. All night. Good thing we went elsewhere! We will try again with a reservation, but until then, I have to say they really shouldn't have quoted us a time and added us to a waitlist if they weren't going to seat us.

Yelp
I was SO excited for this spot to open as it is an extension of one of my favorite restaurants in the city (causwells), but sadly this place was very disappointing. The food was not well made. Flavor was lacking overall. Drinks were actually very good and would recommend only going to drink. Some cocktails were a little too sweet, but they were unique and fun! I would recommend causwells over lilah any day.
google avatar

Brianna C.

Yelp
For drinks this expensive, I was expecting a little bit more. I wasn't sure about the Asian fusion drinks, but surprisingly the pho margarita was the standout. Food could be better and could include better group snacks. Service was a bit weird here as we had some miscommunication leading to longer wait times before we got served.

John E.

Yelp
Meh. Door open on a night when it's 50 degrees out. "Oh, we crank the heat so it's 68 degrees inside." Sorta. Still a draft. What's with all the open doors. Are we too stupid to understand that establishments with closed doors and open signs are ready for us? The only drinks available are from their peculiarly formulated specialty drink list. No exceptions. And they are not good. Too sweet or too -- weird. I like an inventive cocktail but these try too hard. Food was okay until we tasted the dipping sauce for the rolls -- it's the same as the dressing for the noodles.
google avatar

Sami L.

Yelp
I was expecting more from a sister restaurant of Causwell's, but was unfortunately influenced by an Instagram ad and should've known better (also, that might not be true). It's a very small space but cute vibe inside. Wish we knew we were booking a high top instead of a regular indoor table for our group since we had some pregnant guests who were a little uncomfortable. The food was mostly bland and just okay - everyone in our group agreed. The best thing was the fried rice and papaya salad. The low-proof cocktails are fun but the N/A ones are $15 and the N/A Paloma came in a Squirt bottle and just tasted like I paid $15 for a bottle of Squirt. Our server, however, was very attentive and friendly. I would only come back just for drinks or if they adjusted how they seasoned their food. Hopefully, they will take everyone's feedback and improve upon the menu.

Yelp
what a disappointment. we really like Causwells next door, but didn't want to wait for a table, so thought we'd try Lilah for brunch. i'll start with the positives, the espresso martini was delicious, the skewers had great flavor but texturally were kindof crumbly and dry, and the crispy duck tacos were good but under seasoned. the bad, the pork belly buns were extremely tough, seemed overcooked and also under seasoned, the vietnamese fresh rolls were bland and included wilted brown lettuce, and the scallion pancake breakfast wrap was tough and rather messy altho it had a more satisfying flavor than the other dishes. the service was also unenthusiastic, the servers seemed annoyed and it was difficult to order a second drink. pretty sure we wont be back.

Andy M.

Yelp
Very creative cocktails to suit every taste, from sweet spritzes to a creative Vietnamese take on a Negroni that was served up. The pho margarita was served with a fresh garden of Thai herbs inside it. Appetizers were out of this world - duck tacos had the perfect blend of crispiness and sauciness, and the white poke had nice little touches such as mango, rice crisps, and tons of sesame and radish.

Greer I.

Yelp
Cutest place in the world!!!! Amazing drinks and service :) They were so accommodating and moved us around when our party expanded. Flo was the best and made sure our night was perfect. Could not recommend this place more for a fun and unique cocktail. Can't believe they don't have more reviews yet!

Sean L.

Yelp
love this spot! great food and the cocktails were amazing...next time we have date night, this one is on the short list!
