"This Stockholm institution occupies a corner of the restored and resplendent 19C market which reopened in 2020 after a huge renovation. The menu offers an impressive range of fish and shellfish dishes, some of which are designed for sharing; the quality and freshness are unimpeachable. Just be sure to book." - Michelin Inspector

Popular spot inside a beautiful market hall but sadly a bit overrated. The fish soup (US$35) was a letdown, and while the mussels (US$31) were fresh and generous, the sauce was too creamy for my taste. Prices are steeper than other Stockholm restaurants, and they even asked for a tip up to 20% at checkout. Not a common practice in Sweden 🫣

Lisa Elmqvist, located in the Stockholm Market Hall, offers a fine dining experience with a beautifully curated fish-based menu. The ambiance was exceptional, and the food truly lived up to the reputation — fresh, flavorful, and well presented. However, the service left something to be desired. While I understand a busy setting can lead to some delays, what I found quite disappointing was the handling of a basic need — I urgently needed to use the bathroom, but the waiter refused to let me go until I had paid the bill. Even after explaining my situation, there was an unnecessary delay in bringing the check. That behavior felt inconsiderate and took away from what could have been a seamless dining experience. The woman serving me was polite but definitely had a rude gesture, which clearly made me feel that as I wasn’t elite-dressed I don’t belong there. (I’m a tourist and don’t expect me to carry my evening gown around the globe, it’s definitely not tourist friendly) A great place for seafood lovers, but I hope the service becomes more empathetic in the future. As I just felt like I spent a hell lot of money and i couldn’t even enjoy the food nicely. I expect QUALITY SERVICE, if am paying 3 times for a food. Please ensure the staffs are well mannered unless if that’s the overall restaurant want! To discriminate tourists

Google
This is truly a remarkable restaurant hidden in this amazing food hall. Our dining experience was nothing short of amazing, from the atmosphere to the food, everything was perfect. I heartily recommend it to anyone who wants to enjoy a delicious meal while exploring the delights that this food market has to offer. I do recommend malice a reservation, because the place is very popular (I guess everyone knows how good this place is). We did not have a reservation and we were queued for about 15 minutes, but we were lucky and managed to get a table. Will definitely come back the next time we visit Stockholm!

Google
fresh food in the perfect market/restaurant atmosphere. the staff was very helpful making recommendations and making us feel comfortable. a big plus for us was their choice of non alcoholic wines and beers since we don't drink alcohol.

Google
Food is frozen taste, not much flavours, worst of all waitresses are rude and not responsive. Maybe it’s just the specific two person in our seating area? My sister said her previous experience there other waitress are friendly…

Google
Excellent sea food! It was worth waiting the queue, but we also learned it is possible to make a reservation. Whatever you choose, you will not get disappointed! We will be back, no other way as I am a sea food lover 💙🍤🐟🐠🥂 Highly recommending!

Google
Had a really lovely lunch with a great atmosphere watching the buzz of the market from the bar. Really delicious Toast Skagen paired perfectly with a glass of champagne. There was a wait for a table / seat but it moved quickly. Very friendly service and lovely experience.

Yelp
When we were in Stockholm 3 weeks ago, we didn't expect how beautiful this city was. We asked some locals their favorites, and we were pointed to the food hall. Inside the food hall was Lisa Elmqvist in a weird sectional format. What we didn't know was it was a Michelin restaurant mixed in with other restaurants under the same roof. Of course, we had to try it. We had no reservations so we were seated at a detached bar area. My first meal in Europe was fish and chips on a green pea puree, an order of smoked eel on rye bread, and catch of the day. I wish I remembered to take pictures instead of letting my stomach do some talking. The best dish that day was the smoked eel on rye. That was just too good. Fish and chips with the puree and house made dip was also a good combo of flavors. The catch of the day with vegetables wasn't so appealing so that was a miss. It wasn't as memorable in flavor as the smoked eel was but still a fresh fish. Also a miss was service. They seem to do everything on their time. A lot of serving others and cleaning before getting back to us but when they did they always gave us fresh new silverware and plates. I'd come back here again with reservations as that was a dining experience and looked like better service.

Yelp
It's been a long time since I saw restaurant staff genuinely take pleasure in guests enjoying the food. Lisa Elmqvist provides plenty of things to enjoy in a beautiful setting with great hours. Yes, the prices are "high," but it's well worth it. The seafood risotto here with the little shrimp in it was the best I've ever had. The herring and other delicacies were exquisite. Don't miss this restaurant.

Yelp
We have been coming here for years - even when they were under the tents when they redid Ostermalms Saluhalle Its a must at Christmas (anytime really). Book; no point in just turning up - this is the time of year its super busy I suppose we do tend to have the same lunch each time...a skagen, a raksmorgas, sorbet and ice-cream and a double espresso apiece...with a glass of yummy Chantalouette (rouge) for me and a Riesling Tradition for my wife Its busy, bustling with all the shoppers passing by, its noisy...but its so good, fresh food...and fun to wander around the market afterwards to try and walk some of the meal off Its not cheap but its a treat - you have to go at least once. £95 including tip

Yelp
Stunningly fresh and delicious seafood is what Lisa Elmqvist specializes in. From the delicious bleak caviar appetizers, to the grilled fish entrees everything is prepared to perfection. A must try when in Stockholm.

Yelp
Came here cuz of the reviews for the shrimp toast. To be honest, it was aite. Really expensive for what you get and not too memorable...

Yelp
Our first meal in Stockholm was very satisfying. We had several of the same dishes at other traditional Swedish restaurants in Stockholm but Lisa was the best! Big plus is that you can easily make a reservation on The Fork. We had: * 3 varieties of herring: normally I'm not fond of herring but these were the perfect, not too fishy, not too vinegary. * Toast Skagen: it's a pretty simple dish, comforting and satisfying. At the time I had this, I enjoyed it but didn't think it was that special but after trying it 2x more times elsewhere, I realized it was special at Lisa after all. * Fish soup of the house: a bit like a bouillabaisse with deep rich flavors. Solid but probably wouldn't order again * Whole fried lemon sole Grenoble: as an Asian I wouldn't call this whole as it was missing the head, but it was served with a light coating, with tons of bones but swimming in a delicious butter sauce. If you like butter this is for you! Service was typical Swedish, food simple and solid. Wouldn't hesitate to visit again, especially for the herring.

Yelp
This review is only for the takeout counter, not the restaurant itself. We got several types of smoked fish for takeaway, all of it was superb. Cold-smoked salmon and smoked eel were both sliced thin and had delightful flavors that I can't fault, though they were a bit oily. Smoked mackerel was also excellent.

Yelp
Great service with amazing and creative, fresh fish options. Setting in upscale market stall location added to visual interest.

Yelp
Went with my family and tried about every salmon they had. While I no longer eat meat, the family thought it was pretty darn good and they are salmon snobs. Service was great and the draft beer was spot on. Restaurant is in a temp location right next to the original space as the entire area get a face lift.

Yelp
Wow as good as it gets. Most amazing seafood preparations in a casual food hall location. Indoor, outdoor and bar seating but limited so make a reservation. We had the shrimp toast and shrimp sandwich both while listed as a starter we huge! The toast comes as a mayo type shrimp salad. The sandwich, open face is plain shrimp on sliced boiled egg, lettuce and brown bread. Both excellent!

Yelp
Super slow service. I thought the food was fine, but not as good as I expected. We ordered the fish stew, which was light and refreshing, but I liked the stew at Rolfs Kok far more. The portion was a bit stingy on the fish, and overpriced. We also ordered the shrimp sandwich and herrings sampler. Nothing to rave about. I thought the shrimp sandwich was heavy handed on the mayo, and was a bit hard to eat as a sandwich so I ended up having to deconstruct it. This restaurant appears to be popular with locals, and has a nice view of the city and is located in the food market. Definitely make reservations.

Yelp
We stumbled across Lisa Elmqvist while looking around Östermalmshallen, the food market in Tarmola Square. This is probably the best restaurant I've eaten at in all of the Scandinavian countries during my short trip this summer. The fish is incredibly fresh and the dishes are simply made. To start off the meal, we had the Kitchen's choice of 3 starters (180 SEK) which happened to include Skagen, Cured Salmon, and Pickled Herring. The Skagen consisted of a small mound of sweet Atlantic shrimp dressed in a light mustard-mayonnaise which was topped with a spoon of trout roe and garnished with a sprig of dill. The flavours were simple yet delicious and I can see why so many people rave about the Toast Skagen here. The Salmon was thickly cut and topped with dill. The herring was perfectly pickled with a sweet tart flavour and a nice firm texture. Paired with finely chopped chives and red onion, it made for an exciting burst of flavours. An amazing start to lunch! The Avocado Alexandra (211SEK) with a mix of shrimps, honey, dijon mustard, sour cream, mayonnaise was light and refreshing. The shrimp filling was served in a halved avocado and topped with smokey salmon and a sprig of basil. What I thought was really smart was that they cut a little slice off the bottom of the avocado to keep the shell from rolling around the plate. The Butter Fried Fillet of Pike Perch (315 SEK) was my favourite dish. The skin was perfectly fried with a light crunch as you bite into it. But the star of this dish has got to be the hot buttery sauce with cream boiled wild mushrooms. Not only was the taste of mushroom very apparent, there was also a lemony flavour which made it irresistible. I ended up finishing off every drop with the complimentary bread. The Steamed Cod (335 SEK) was my least liked. Although the cod was extremely tender and perfectly cooked, I felt the fish itself lacked flavour. The eggs, shrimp, horseradish and beurre noisette did help to make the dish more exciting but overall, it did not compare to the rest of the dishes we tried. We were lucky enough to drop by really late in the afternoon in order to get a table. However, reservations are something I would definitely recommend here as the restaurant started to fill up again fairly quickly around 5pm.

Yelp
Fresh fresh FRESH seafood and fish served in this restaurant/market. You can purchase fresh seafood and fish as well as sit and dine to enjoy a great meal! Below captioned are the fresh catch of the day: halibut and the salmon carpaccio. The fresh catch of the day was amazing. It was slightly salted and had a bit of seasoning that complimented the fish perfectly. It came with horseradish, eggs, and shrimp.

Yelp
We originally had a 7pm reservation but wanted to see if we could pop in earlier at 5:30. The staff graciously accommodated our needs and we were seated right away, even though there was a long line! We ordered the toast skagen and bouillabaisse from a friends recommendation, and both were delicious! They have fast service as well. A little on the pricey side but well worth it!

Yelp
The restaurant is in an upscale food hall called the Ostermalm Saluhall. Lisa Elmqvist looked like the best choice because a sign said it had gotten a Michelin Star within the last couple of years. The history about the restaurant was interesting. It started as a booth that sold fish in a fish market long ago. The hostess was nice. We didn't have a reservation but she seated us at a table in the bar area. There were many choices of fish and seafood on the menu. My daughter got the special of the day which was a risotto topped with fish, a few pieces of lobster, white asparagus, and maybe a couple shrimp. I had the fish soup that came with bread, and my husband had an entrée of a fish that I can't remember. My daughter also ordered oysters for an appetizer. The best tasting dish was the special of the day. The food was good but I would not say it was delicious (except for the risotto, which was a great choice). The woman that served us was one of two female bartenders, and she was not pleasant at all. She did not smile and was actually pretty rude, I'm assuming because we were tourists. She wasn't helpful explaining the menu, and her facial expression seemed to imply that she was annoyed to have to wait on us. This unpleasantness lasted the entire meal whenever she had to come over to bring the food, the drinks, the bill, etc. We left disappointed with the experience. I would not recommend this restaurant for non Scandinavian tourists. She was much nicer, talkative, and even smiling to customers who spoke Swedish. Instead, head over to a place called The Fishery, where we had a lovely meal that was very yummy and half the price. I had the fish stew there and it was truly tasty and memorable. Plus .... The Fishery employees made us feel welcome.

Yelp
Lisa Elmqvist is located inside the fabulous indoor food market Östermalms Saluhall, and is a classic meeting point for lovers of fish and seafood. The ingredients is always fresh and seriously, seriously good. I have visited this place numerous times and never been disappointed - both regarding the food, the presentation and the service. The restaurant is often full, so be aware of that. At times it could become a bit lively due to that the restaurant is located in an indoor market, but I only think that it ads something to the atmosphere. What could be noted though is that Östermalms Saluhall is due for renovation and remodelling so do pay a visit to this traditional indoor food market before it's too late. Only open at lunchtime!
google avatar

Mandy C.

Yelp
Great restaurant in Östermalms! The market is fun to walk through, and the dill shrimp toast with roe was really good and the stuffed avocado was pretty good. There's nice seating outside. The plating was gorgeous!
google avatar

Yelp
Expensive (but what isn't in Stockholm?) seafood restaurant in the food hall but worth every dollar. It's casual but clearly still classy. For 2 people, the mixed platter of skagen toast, shrimp (smoked and not smoked), caviar, smoked salmon, marinated salmon and eel is more than enough. I highly recommend it. It comes out looking incredible and is just really fresh tasting seafood with good accompaniments. Worth checking out for a nice sit down seafood lunch.
google avatar

Angel R.

Yelp
I dropped into the food hall to have a look on my way to the Historiska Museet (which was a great museum by the way). I did not know anything about this place, so I guess I got lucky on decisions to eat here for lunch! I ate at the counter/bar and the food and servos was great. I ordered a small selection of pickled herring and also a seafood platter mix. All it was so delicious. The small herring platter had three types of picked herring (one plain, one with mustard, and one with sour cream). The seafood platter had quite a variety: fresh shrimp, smoked shrimp, two types of lax, smoked eel, Skagen, and crayfish Skagen - all of which was served with some condiments of fish roe, sour cream, diced onions, mustard, and dipping sauce for the shrimp. I ate it so quick that I forgot to take pictures - or perhaps it was because I was in my second Aquavit.
google avatar

Derek D.

Yelp
Man, that was some pretty damned good seafood. Fresh shrimp, oysters and fish, plus some nice Northern Italian white wine. Cramped place, and yes - it is expensive (like - eeeek!) but totally worth it if you've got the scratch.
google avatar

Victoria E.

Yelp
Great pickled herrings and seafood in general. Here sitting next to some Danes and behind us an American. They all say this is a must to do while in Stockholm. Perfect place to experience seafood. You have to get yourself here. I would come back. Pure satisfaction.
google avatar

Adam L.

Yelp
Two words: 'Awesome', and 'Toast Skagen'. OK, that's three words. But I'm too busy devouring their unbelievably great food to get into distinctions. Seriously, seriously good. Go. Often.
google avatar

Yelp
Food in Stockholm is simply on another level. Four start eateries back home would be reduced to 1 or 2 stars at best. We stopped in here to pick up some salted salmon. The meals people had been eating at the roped off restaurant simply do not exist back home. Magnificent presentations of crabs, shellfish, shrimp with cuts of fresh fish that would make a Japanese fishmonger sharpen his knives. Then of course the fresh bread which seems an essential part of every meal. If you want an experience in an open and functioning market be sure to make your way here. On the other hand if you need a few raw (from the sea) ingredients on your way to visit a friend (like us) this is your place. Outstanding.

Honest M.

Yelp
Fantastic seafood - every dish a delight Solid wine list Is it worth the wait ?- Maybe -make a res if u can.
google avatar

Adam T.

Yelp
I was really disappointed with my meal after reading outstanding reviews online. I thought the Toast Skagen was okay (what seems to be the classic dish - shrimp with mayo on toast), but the smoked salmon and herring were very average. I definitely thought this place was way overhyped and still isn't worth going to even if you just order toast skagen as it wasn't anything special and not cheap. My favorite part of the meal was (sadly) the knackebrod (crispy bread) that was part of the bread basket.
google avatar

Howard M.

Yelp
Very good food and nice atmosphere. Go there to sample herring and cured fish. Grilled salmon and The Perch were fantastic.

Yelp
Excellant traditional sea-food restaurant in the new market place building. Unbelievable tasty traditional sill and small potatoes from Gotland island. Nice sweden desert: strawberry with icecream and cream

Yelp
I saw Uma Thurman earlier this week, standing just a few feet from me at the Stockholm international film festival and I felt sort of creepy looking at this woman who I'd seen in so many films and looked at her in different ways. I guess it's like any sort of situation where you wrote a letter to a movie star and your praise was just like a coin into a fountain. This is sort of like a love letter to a movie star, a love letter to Lisa Elmqvist. I don't know when I happened to find this place, it had to have been in the first couple years I was in Sweden. I just know that the fish and all the other food I've ever eaten here have been exquisite and the service felt so proper, welcoming, and knew just what to do and when. Why would I feel creepy talking about this? Well the thoughts I have of their sauces and dishes haunt my dreams at night and leave me waking up in cold sweat with my hands clasped on front of me like Axl Rose of Guns and Roses in the Don't Cry video - except holding fork and knife and I'm not completely naked or maybe I am. Go for lunch, be haunted for life.

Yelp
This is Michelin recommended restaurant. Totally yummy herring and fried sole! Worth every bite!
google avatar

Michael A.

Yelp
Wow, a really unsuspectingly expensive lunch. It was more than $100 for our lunch that was supposed to be a casual marketplace experience. The contrast of the greens and beets on the fried sole is what sold me to purchase it but I'm not giving it that great of marks (see photo). However, it's enough for 2 or 3 people which is something I didn't know... Just watch out for bones! The seafood bouillabaisse was only luke warm and not really a game changer. The best thing for me was the skagen. Wow! I should have bought all three to be honest. Really fresh tasting with that lemon squeeZed on top. The mixed salad was great value as well. Service here is terrible but then again all of Sweden has had terrible service thus far. We also had a single glass of champagne which may have been what put the bill just over 850 sek. I wouldn't come back but it was nice to experience.
google avatar

Stefanie K.

Yelp
Delicious Skagen toast(shrimp toast)! This dish came highly recommended by a friend and it did not disappoint. The shrimps are tiny but they stack them so generously on the toast that it was overflowing! We also tried the steam halibut, which came with spinach and fish eggs covered in a cream sauce and a side of boiled potatoes. This dish was tasty, moist, and hearty. You can tell that this place is popular because the whole place was bustling during lunch time with families and business people. We didn't have a reservation, but thankfully they were able to seat us as long as we shared a table and were out by 45 minutes. This place may be a bit hidden, but it is located in a big market all the way in the back. I will definitely be back for the Skagen toast, if I'm back in Sweden!

Yelp
After throughly enjoying the Vasa museum, we needed a late lunch so headed to the Market Hall. We wandered around admiring the beautiful food but decided on the Lisa because of the fresh fish. We sat at the bar and our bartender/waiter took excellent care of us. We asked for suggestions and with his help decided on the Salt cured Salmon with creamy dill potatoes and the Butter Fried Perch (to Americans, Wall-Eye) with a creamy mushroom sauce. The Salmon was perfectly sliced and nicely fatty. The hot creamy dill potatoes were a perfect accompaniment to the delicate salmon. The Butter fried perch was brown and crispy on the outside and meltingly moist yet firm on the inside. The mushroom sauce was rich and blended perfectly with the fish. This was served with small boiled potatoes which also tasted great with the sauce! What an enjoyable lunch. It wasn't cheap but a perfect place to splurge.
google avatar

Yelp
Really good fresh food. Great for lunch, nice people watching place, sitting at the counter watching the world go by. Very good herring and roe. The smoked eel and scrambled eggs are very good. Also try the smoked shrimps with garlic mayo
google avatar

Peter B.

Yelp
Really tasty fish. Very creative flavor profiles without overpowering the delicate fresh fish. Wonderful service, especially if you're the proverbial table-for-one business traveler. Much appreciated.
google avatar

Ralph J.

Yelp
Encountered this place accidentally, then realized it is in guidebooks. Fantastic salmon, great sides and desserts -- so much better than the phony "foodie" places that are around. Only disadvantage is if someone in your party doesn't like fish.
google avatar

Michael A.

Yelp
Went here on a Saturday afternoon. We had the shrimp sandwich which was pretty ok but not wow. It's a pricy place but that didn't come as a surprise really. The low rating comes from the service being slow and very ignorant and grumpy. The waiters (we were served by three different ones) were all lacking enthusiasm and friendliness. No one smiled and they all seemed bothered by our presence.

Hal D.

Yelp
Pretty low key for dinner (in the temporary location). Food was good, put not 5 stars. I like the open market idea and would probably prefer doing lunch.

KB H.

Yelp
Excellent service, great central location and delicious seafood. The bouillabaisse and the whole fried sole were both very well done and beautifully presented. Their black bread is amazing. Wish there was more green on the menu - par for the course in Stockholm. 2760 Sek for 6 people.
google avatar

Carl J.

Yelp
Five stars for the food; three stars for the ambiance and the service. Pretty messy place with slightly uncomfortable seating at fairly large tables. Tricky with reservations, often impossible. Very nice and tasty seafood! My favorites are "Toast Skagen", "Smoked Eel with Scrambled Eggs" and "Rimmad Lax med Gräddstuvad Potatis", all excellent dishes! Super nice place for lunch, especially on an early Saturday afternoon while also shopping for dinner at the "Östermalms Saluhall". The only drawback shopping at the Saluhall is the lack of, or the limited amount of, organically produced meat, poultry, fruit and vegetables. Despite the fairly high prices! This must really change in Sweden!

Charlotte M.

Yelp
Toast Skagen is the classic hete. It is to die for but so is the smoked salmon. Skagen is a mix of bay shrimp (fished off the Swedish west coast and cooked on the boat while returning to shore), mayo and dill served on toast or avocado. Salty ocean flavor! Eat in the bar and people eaych! When seated at the tables you will often share the table with other guests. Go before or after the lunch rush. Afternoons are great! If you are hete in the summer consider Lisa på Torget. That is thete sister restaurant out in the plaza off the main entry. Bring a thick pocket book!
google avatar

Jen B.

Yelp
We had the most unbelievable fried plaice here I can still think about it years later! I'm sure every single item is delicious here! So fresh and beautifully presented! I hope to come back someday.
google avatar

Barbara B.

Yelp
I loved this place for lunch. I gave it five stars in context; it's not a fine dining establishment but a perfect casual lunch experience with mouth-watering food. Definitely sit at the bar and enjoy a conversation with a server or other patrons, or at least have a great view of the goings on. I couldn't decide between gravlax and salmon tartar, and was able to have both thanks to Marina, my expert server. She suggested a half-order of gravlax and a small portion of salmon tartare. Along with that I ordered a small mixed salad which was unnecessary because the tartare came with greens. But the food! Everything was fresh and supremely flavorful, simply dressed and served(see my photos). The restaurant is in a centrally-located charming and authentic food hall along with other restaurants and food bars, as well as butchers, fishmongers and bakeries. It closes at 6 pm, so go for lunch or a snack.

Yelp
Really great restaurant and medium in price. At the back of the Östermalm Saluhall. The food is super fresh. It is all seafood, but if you are a meat lover (like me) you can ask for the secret plate of Swedish meatballs which are fantastic. The shrimp salad was delightful and the Avacado Alexandra (shrimp, salmon, and Avacado) is amazing as well. Everything is so fresh and the atmosphere is great. The service is quick and the people are very kind. Overall, an absolute must.
