The 22 Best Seattle Cafes To Work In - Seattle - The Infatuation

"If you’ve ever tried to get work done at Barnes & Noble and ended up reading 16 magazines/using your pocket change to order a slice of peanut butter cheesecake only to miss your deadlines, Little Oddfellows is the coffee shop for you. It’s inside Elliott Bay Book Company, but removed from the bookcase-perusing action so you won’t get distracted. Their espresso is from Caffé Vita, and you won’t have to worry about skipping a meal in order to power through the entire day—they have a ton of panini, avocado toast, and pastries." - aimee rizzo, kayla sager riley

14 Coffee Shops That Also Serve Alcohol - Seattle - The Infatuation

"We’d like to make it known that you can drink wine in a bookstore, and it doesn’t have to be from a Swell bottle between stacks in the epistemology section where no one can hear you hiccup or cry. Just go to Little Oddfellows, the adjoining cafe to Elliott Bay Book Company. Drink some red or white on tap while perusing a stack of magazines you will not be purchasing." - Aimee Rizzo

Seattle Coffee Shops With Great Food - Seattle - The Infatuation

"Imagine the ideal bookstore cafe, and you’ll probably be picturing something like Little Oddfellows. Which is fitting, because it’s right next to the cookbook section at The Elliot Bay Book Company. Their panini (get the ham and cheese), grain bowls, homemade pastries, and espresso drinks are excellent—and they taste even better while you’re getting through that stack of brand new magazines." - Aimee Rizzo

Tucked behind a bookstore in Capitol Hill, Little Oddfellows is one of Seattle’s hidden gems. The coffee is solid, but what really makes this place special is the atmosphere — think quiet bookstore vibes with the aroma of fresh brews. It’s the perfect place to sip a latte and flip through a new read. That said, seating is limited and it can get crowded fast, especially on weekends. But worth checking out for the ambiance alone.

Google
Cute space to read and drink my favorite iced chai tea latte💕

Mohit Jain

Google
The coffee is okay. Taste of it is off. Barista isn’t very good at making latte art so don’t expect the coffee to make your day, but she tried lol. The atmosphere of the place is super nice though, and I love the ambience.

Google
I went to order and the worker just stared at me. I asked if I could have a matcha and then it cost $10 and wasn’t even good. It was clumpy. When the other worker handed it to me she threw it so hard it spilled a little on the counter. It was so full when I put the lid on it went everywhere. I don’t know why they treated me like that I was polite to them. I’ll never be back there, I’m trying not to let it ruin my day. I never even write reviews but Jesus Christ

Google
Very cute cafe and a great space to read or study inside Elliot Bay Bookstore. There are many seats in the space, but keep in mind it can quickly get crowed on weekends. It’s a great spot to come by on a weekend morning for a cup of coffee, then walk around the store for new reads.

Google
Great place to sit and work/study all day. Baristas are very nice, atmosphere is great, coffee is great. 4 instead of 5 because the Wi-Fi really and truly does not work for many customers. I see other comments mentioning this, with replies from the owner saying that this is because they failed to ‘accept the terms’, and that you might have to go into your device settings to ‘forget’ the network in order to see the terms of use webpage (this is called a ‘captive portal’ fyi). This is simply not the case, folks. Nothing I did (including forgetting the network) made the captive portal page appear. I have been a software engineer for 12 years and today I tried my damndest for about 20 minutes to connect to this network to no avail. It’s fine for a cafe to not have WiFi, I can always use tethering. I just want the owners here to be aware that this is not merely a problem with folks getting confused and failing to accept the terms on the captive portal, or needing to reset their device settings.

Google
This is truly a special place. It is the offspring of its sister restaurant just down the block. The staff are kind, patient and efficient, the pastries and coffee are wonderful and the vibe is cozy and inviting. Inside the Elliott Bay Bookstore. Coffee, pastries and books?! #winning

Dusty Daily

Google
The staff was friendly, the atmosphere was relaxed, warm and inviting. If you go on the weekends, expect a wait. I stood in line for about 15 minutes and another 5 minutes for my coffee. I have been there during the week and it wasn't busy. The blueberry sconce was good, and the mocha was delicious. It's definitely a cool little place to sip a coffee while reading a book purchased from the bookstore.

Yelp
- seating options but it fills up fast - wifi doesn't work so make sure u have hotspot if u want to do work (would rate higher if this wasn't an issue) - even though it's inside of a bookstore, it is louder than expected but not too bad - got the seattle fog it was pretty good!
google avatar

Karina C.

Yelp
Brown sugar cinnamon latte (hot): A bit bland, more on the milky side, even for a latte. Brown sugar and cinnamon had balanced sweetness though! Cute cafe inside Elliot bookstore -- but there are lots of little 2 tables often busy and hard to find a spot. A bit crowded for cozy reading imo and wifi is a bit spotty. Would consider a revisit for new drinks next time I stop by the bookstore!
google avatar

Wendi K.

Yelp
Pros: - Cute interior! - Lots of yummy looking pastries (from Macrina, by the looks of it) available for purchase - BF said the vanilla latte was nice Cons: - The wi-fi here doesn't really work. Always frustrating. Make sure you have a hotspot handy if you come here to work! - $8+ for a matcha latte is the most I've seen, anywhere. - My entire time sitting here I did not see the bathroom like get under like 5+ people long. I get it, it's also a bookstore, but .... -Wish it let more light in, located at the back of the bookstore
google avatar

Yelp
Good Caprese sandwich, filled with fresh basil, tomatoes, and mozzarella cheese, but the Wi-Fi was down when I went! It's inside the bookstore in the busy part of Capitol Hill. lots of people when with only one or two seating left.

Yelp
Little Oddfellows is such a cute cafe tucked inside of Elliott Bay Book Co!! there's a decent amount of seating, and I had no problem getting a nice corner seat when I came on a Saturday night around 6:30pm. With that said I definitely think it gets a lot busier on a normal day! I ordered the 16oz seattle fog ($6.61) and I LOVED it!! there's something about tea and milk that is so yummy and comforting. I thought the flavor was great and i would definitely recommend getting this. I will say there's been one persisting issue -- their wifi has been down for months :( I last came to study here in february and was surprised it's still not fixed as it's april. the cashier told me it will be fixed sometime in june which is a pretty long process for a cafe that would otherwise be so ideal to study at. All in all, I absolutely love the aesthetic of the cafe and also the worker was friendly!! it's also so perfect that you can browse the bookstore while you're there. they also sold merch like tote bags which I thought was so cute!!
google avatar

Diana C.

Yelp
They have quite the selection and everything is pretty well made and tasty. The service is great. The bookstore is amazing, but the cafe area is often so full it's hard to find a spot to sit! I wasn't a huge fan of the blueberry ginger milk, but I've liked pretty much everything else I've had here.
google avatar

uma p.

Yelp
Love this coffee shop inside of Elliot bay! You can get free refills on the drip coffee, which is surprisingly very good. The service is very good as well. Overall vibe is great as it is right next to my favorite bookstore in Seattle :)
google avatar

Adriana M.

Yelp
I went there to study, they had a chill open area for seating AND open until a decent time Also had a good amount of chargers and seating as well. I got the brown sugar cinnamon latte, which was very good! The taste of coffee was strong, and the coffee wasn't too bitter or too sweet. The staff were friendly and fast!
google avatar

Andrew S.

Yelp
Oddfellows is the kind of restaurant you want to go to when you want to hear loud fans, smell all that the heated summer street and open air should blend with your dinner. The food is remarkably above average and pretty good, but it's almost like eating food during a break in your job at a warehouse. Service was good, cold drinks were poured... I just can't get over how loud the place is vs a simple air conditioner would complete change the appeal
google avatar

Beanca L.

Yelp
I love this cafe. The staff is extremely warm, welcoming, and Friendly. The space is great for working. I enjoyed the dim lighting and the design. They have happy hour from 5-7. I got white wine and it was nice. I haven't tried any food here but I plan on trying it next time.
google avatar

Christina G.

Yelp
Little Oddfellows offers a cozy and inviting spot for coffee lovers and book enthusiasts alike. I tried the warm vanilla latte, which had a good coffee flavor but a vanilla taste that was too subtle, so I added some honey to sweeten it up. The barista was nice, and my order came out quickly. Located inside Elliott Bay Book Company, it's a perfect place to find a book and then relax in the cozy atmosphere or bring a laptop and get some work done. The pastries looked delicious, and I'll definitely have to try them next time.
google avatar

Maggie L.

Yelp
In February, I came to do some work on a weekday before lunchtime. The cafe is busy, most tables were taken. I got the Seasonal Beverage Strawberry Mocha and a cinnamon roll, which were both alright. The baristas were very nice. I hear people ordering sandwiches closer to lunch time. I like the vibe of this cafe inside a bookstore, it's quieter than a regular cafe.
google avatar

Bonnie Y.

Yelp
I'm conflicted. On one hand, having a full cafe inside of Elliot Bay Bookstore is a genius, almost necessary move. Unless you're here on an early weekday, it's usually packed and lively; god help you if you're trying to get a seat after classes get out. Feels like folks from all over the city flock here; it's fantastic for people-watching, to see and be seen. The baristas are friendly and quick with drinks, even when it's busy. The Seattle Fog is a tasty spin on its cousins from across the pond. However, the drinks are rather overpriced. The bathrooms are ran through, but that's understandable with all the bookstore traffic. The WiFi is pretty awful, and was completely down the last two times I was here. It's not perfect, but it's a cozy and comfortable spot to include in your regular routine. Save me Little Oddfellows, Little Oddfellows save me, etc.
google avatar

Vanessa D.

Yelp
Line wasn't super long but slow. Ordered the golden hour latte (12oz), absolutely amazing ! Honestly one of the best lattes I've had.
google avatar

Michelle Z.

Yelp
A lovely quiet cafe to stop by with a friend to catch up about life, or to sip on coffee as you study or read a newly purchased book from Elliot Bay (the bookstore housing the cafe). You're really just here to study and read in a productive setting more so than to eat the food and coffees. I thought the 8oz latte was pricey - it was good though. Took the chicken salad to-go. It was okay, tasted healthy.

Andrew N.

Yelp
I like the atmosphere and how Little Oddfellows is in the back of Elliot bay bookstore but there are some issues that detract from the overall quality of the cafe. Namely, the seating is uncomfortable, the wifi is almost always broken and some of the baristas are noticeably more rude and passive aggressive than in any of the other cafes in the area.
google avatar

Ngoc R.

Yelp
This is a cute little café inside of the bookstore. My friend and I didn't want to wait at Oddfellows for brunch so we grabbed a small bite and coffee here instead. They heat it up our pastries, but it wasn't warm enough in my opinion. I would recommend coming early as the place does fill up quite quickly. The ambience is a bit loud so I would suggest bringing headphones if you want to work.
google avatar

Sasha P.

Yelp
3 stars for my second-favorite cafe inside my favorite store in Seattle? What sense does that make?! Perfect sense when you consider: - there's never anywhere to sit (not their fault) - the glacial speed of the wifi (definitely their fault) Even so, I try most weekends to snag a spot. Reading or working in this cozy space, herbal tea in hand, after browsing the shelves for treasures, is a teeny tiny paradise. The vibes are right, if you get lucky enough to grab a seat and don't need modern wifi speeds.
google avatar

Bethany L.

Yelp
Super cute and quiet cafe in the back of a bookstore; the baristas were were nice and quick. I had an iced, oat milk, matcha latte and it was good - not my favorite matcha ever, but refreshing and a good flavor. Overall, go for the vibes, a quiet place to work or read, and enjoy the atmosphere.

Lama G.

Yelp
Hit and miss ... really depends on who the barista is .... hit or miss I'd say. Customer service is lamentable here. Other than that, there's slow wifi, shaky tables ... need I go no? Also, do not under any circumstances order the soup of the day ... overpriced as heck!, even for Seattle!
google avatar

Colin F.

Yelp
LOVE to come here to do work. The Seattle Fog is my favorite drink, I haven't had better any where else. The staff is always friendly, really appreciate them. Perfect spot to sit down, do work or read a book. You can lose time there
google avatar

Joy F.

Yelp
Just went here and asked the "barista" short haired female a question and she has the attitude and asked very rudely "I'm sorry?" in a very snarky way. She could have asked in a different tone. Guess what, I'll take my business somewhere else where customer service is at least above par. Too bad from a visiting patron to have such a bad first experience. Good thing I haven't ordered yet that's why I was asking a question. Plenty of better cafes around with employees who know what customer service means.
google avatar

Shirin B.

Yelp
Not sure why there's two Yelp links to the same Oddfellows location, but the one across from Cal Anderson Park has some delicious flatbread pizza. Yeah its a little on the pricier side, but its worth it, for that flatbread pizza. The caramelized onions paired with the Feta, I kinda died. I also got a flat white with almond milk which was pretty to look at but you could probably get better coffee in Seattle. Their food is delicious, and if their flatbread pizza says anything about the rest of their dishes, I can't wait to go back.

Karen P.

Yelp
This coffee shop is Inside a bookstore. You can buy your book, get a coffee, and read it all in one stop! And you're surrounded by other book lovers! Yay! The coffee is good. The ambience is good. They do have food and pastries of which I didn't try. There's plenty of seating although some tables are wobbly so be careful not to spill your hot coffee on yourself! This bookstore is located in an area that can attract many tourists. It can be a bit loud especially if you get people on their first date hat do note use their indoor voice so you basically learn all about them (even when you didn't want to). Parking: Hard to find. Maybe Uber here. Dogs: Didn't see any

Yelp
Very cute cafe and a great space to read or study inside Elliot Bay Bookstore. There are many seats in the space, but keep in mind it can quickly get crowed on weekends. It's a great spot to come by on a weekend morning for a cup of coffee, then walk around the store for new reads.

Yelp
Very cute and minimalistic cafe inside the Elliot Bay bookstore. It's a great idea to have a cafe tucked away here. Book readers can stop by and enjoy their read with some drinks, it's a great spot to study as well!
google avatar

Joop V.

Yelp
I love this cafe...it is tucked inside The Elliott Bay Book Company and has such a cool vibe. They offer a variety of drinks (cafe drinks or some alcoholic option) and food (snacks and some light meals), so you are bound to find something that you like! It's a cool place to enjoy your lazy day, be it to catch up on your favorite reads, with friends or to just people watch. I had a large house made chai and a lemon polenta chia loaf and I love what I picked! They both felt more homemade than the typical commercialized ones that you typically get at a chain cafe. The only downside is that I noticed people tend to sit at the tables for a long time...so if you happened to come in during a busy time (e.g. not early or not late time), you may have to order to go and find a seat elsewhere in the bookstore.

Lindsey L.

Yelp
the lighting was so terrible and painful. I don't know how anyone enjoys sitting in there. I genuinely feel bad for the people working there and cannot imagine how their brains handle that much stimulation. Not only are the lights HORRENDOUS, the music is WAYYYY too loud. please consider being more inclusive!
google avatar

Katie M.

Yelp
Super cute location inside of Elliot bay books. The baristas hate you for ordering a drink and honestly - it's the 2022 energy I'm here for. Will they ask for a 20% tip to open up a topo Chico for you? Absolutely. Will I happily comply because working in the service industry is terrible? Absolutely. Will head back soon for more books and more attitude. Put me in my place baby!
google avatar

Isabelle Z.

Yelp
It's a cute little café in the back of a bookstore, but there are a couple of big drawbacks: 1. There's always, always a line for the restroom. 2. The wifi is unbearably slow and some websites just won't load. 3. The food and drinks--while cute, are just too expensive and frankly overpriced. My chai latte was way too sweet. My housemade soda had little flavor. The avocado toast I had was the best thing here, but they were these tiny little slices of toast for $9. There are better places to go and do work than here.
google avatar

Noriyasu L.

Yelp
I love this little cafe tucked behind Elliot book co. Nice spot to get some work done with free wifi, one big communal table and about 15 small tables around the area.
google avatar

Ginny C.

Yelp
Little Oddfellows is located next to the restaurant and can also be accessed through the Elliot Bay Book Store. This was on my bookmarked list for awhile now and I finally visited on a rainy Sunday afternoon. The place was filled with people on their laptops and most were studying and reading. Not a lot of people were there to socialize so my friend and I tried to keep our voices down during our catch up session. The pastries looked delicious but I did not have any. I had a vanilla latte and it was too sweet. The vanilla syrup also tasted very artificial which i did not like. My friend had a plain latte and said it was good and strong. I have had better coffee but this place gets an A-OK rating because it is located inside the bookstore which makes it a cute place to visit. I usually will bring visitors in after having brunch from Oddfellows next door.
google avatar

Jessica S.

Yelp
This place makes for a nice rest stop after a large book purchase binge. It may be tricky to find a spot to prop up your feet, so be mindful that it stays busy and it is a bit on the small size. I was able to have a yummy lunch here with my SO and we both shared the ham panini and veggie chili- highly recommend the veggie chili it is super tasty, almost with a hint of cardamom, clove, and or all spice. Mmmm... such delicious fragrances. There are a couple of single bathroom stalls located in this place, just look for the line (moves at a decent pace).
google avatar

Randy E.

Yelp
Great spot! Brioche French toast hit the spot. Wish I was in Seattle more often to go more often!
google avatar

Candace H.

Yelp
Came here on a Friday with a friend to study! We arrived around 4:30pm and all the seats were filled. We managed to nab a table within a few minutes of arrival (thankfully) because someone was just leaving! I didn't order any coffee as it was past my coffee drinking hours but I did order a ham & swiss panini. The associate informed me that it would be about 6 minutes for my panini. However, it took closer to 10-12 minutes... When the panini came, I noticed that one half of the panini was kinda pretty burnt. Fortunately, the other half was perfectly panini'd and the taste was good! Both my friend and I had a hard time connecting to the WiFi. It took my computer almost an hour to finally connect to their wifi (and yes, I tried turning wifi off and on, restarting my laptop, forgetting the network, etc). This was frustrating for me, and in combination with my half burnt panini I give this place a 2 star. The environment is very cute - the cafe area is in the back of the bookstore. It feels cozy and home-y. I wouldn't be opposed to giving this place another shot but would try their coffee and maybe just use it as a place to catch up instead of doing work because I don't want to run into WiFi problems again!
google avatar

Steve V.

Yelp
I would not have known this place existed unless I was invited here to meet friends. Located in the back of a bookstore, this place is quintessential Seattle as the coffee is strong and the vibe very cozy. I had a chai tea latte and it was excellent! There is a decent amount of seating and do not be afraid to share spaces. The crowd when I was there was very diverse, from families to students, to the elderly, just enjoying a quiet afternoon. Parking if tough on the street so take public transportation if you can. They do serve food as well and it looked great even though I did not have any.
google avatar

Caitlyn S.

Yelp
What a cute and quaint little coffee shop hidden in a bookstore. Very obsessed with the aesthetic of this spot. I came right when it opened so it was very peaceful and the barista was so kind and plated my boyfriend and mines food so beautifully. We had the avocado toast which had the perfect amount of spice and just might be the best avocado toast I've ever had!! We also had the hummus plate, perfect for two people to share. Great place to sit and relax and work on your computer. Or great for you next Instagram post!
google avatar

Carol J.

Yelp
I really enjoyed this space. It's located near The Elliott Bay Book Store. The food was delicious. It's a little expensive but worth it! I purchased the cheese platter to go. I should have written this review sooner to help my memory. The fresh bread and cheese were really tasty! Next time I will sit in and enjoy the ambiance.
google avatar

Jasmin N.

Yelp
To be honest, one of my favorite places to chill, grab a cup of coffee, and do work. I really love the fact that it's connected to Elliot Bay Book Company and the atmosphere. I grabbed an iced mocha on a pretty hot day and it was really good, just a little sweet for my liking, but good nonetheless. Additionally, I enjoy their simple aesthetic that is both home-y and rustic. However, there isn't too much seating, so you got to be quick on claiming a spot. They also serve cookies and other pastries besides coffee, so if you're a little hungry, no worries. Overall, great spot!
google avatar

Vladimir C.

Yelp
First time having brunch in forever and Little Oddfellows did not disappoint with the food and music vibes. I moved from Florida so finding a solid brunch spot was important. Since moving to Seattle, I have been twice already and everything I've ordered has been really good. My recommendation is to try the Brioche French Toast. The eggs and biscuits are also on point is you want something more classic/basic. My only feedback would be working on a better check in/list process. I understand and respect that with COVID-19 restrictions it has been a little tough, but having a way to check the wait time would have been helpful. I will still be back (when they open again...winter closure right now)!
google avatar

Connie L.

Yelp
Like a persistent cough, I will be returning. Dream workspace! This place is tucked in the back of the bookstore and reeks of ambiance. The crowd is pretty cool too. The barista was also super friendly. You can find a healthy spread of outlets under the tables along the sides. I'm kind of in love.
google avatar

Eleta J.

Yelp
I love this place! Food, tea, and coffee are all perfect! In fact it's perfect for grabbing a bite and getting some work done. I have been here way to many times because I love the ambiance, the workers and bringing some one for coffee. I love that they're open late which makes in perfect to get some work done as well, and I've been here way too many times to count. I'd say among the times I've here the WIFI can run slow 1/3 of the time which ends up being a bummer for me. If WIFI isn't an issue then this is a perfect little coffee shop! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
google avatar

Ashley D.

Yelp
This was perfect! I needed a quick snack and their avocado toast was perfect. My date loved the cold brew (he's pretty picky with coffee so I trust that it was pretty great if he was raving about it). We got a browned butter rice krispy treat for later and it was so good. What's even better though is that this place is in the back of a bookstore so it is literally heaven to walk through walls of books, drooling at the possibilities, to end up at a good coffee shop. So often the shops in bookstores are a Starbucks or some other chain with a tiny menu.
google avatar

Dina B.

Yelp
I don't understand anyone who gave this place anything but 5 Stars.... I am in love with it. A coffee shop inside a bookstore is my dream come true. I love browsing and picking out a book, getting a little pot of tea (the earl grey lavender is the best tea I've ever had) and maybe a biscuit & just enjoying a book. The baristas are friendly as hell and if I lived nearby, I'd definitely be here every single day. A Seattle must.
google avatar

Connie S.

Yelp
I saw a little mouse last night, go in between the cooler and run underneath it. I pointed it out to the young Barista and he just shrugged it off. Another customer saw the mouse and told him as well. He said there's mice in this old building and he wasn't paid enough to go catch it. I know this is a popular cafe. But they do leave out the pastries out in the open with no cover, when they are open.
google avatar

J K.

Yelp
Its quite strange that I have just now gotten around to writing a review for this place. Their chai, coffee, and Americano haven't done me wrong so far. Today, I got my trusty Americano with a large slice of velvety lemon cake. Its a big slice. But it was my breakfast so I guess you could call it breakfast sized. Its nestled in the Elliot bay book store. So if you are a book lover or have someone who does take them here. Also, a great first date location. *wink wink* They have free WiFi but thw outlets are there but only around the edges of the cafe.

No N.

Yelp
We stopped by for a cup of coffee after shopping for books. The main barista with a bangs/black hair had the most horrible stink face and attitude. The coffee was really cold and gross. 0 stars
google avatar

Alejandra C.

Yelp
One of my all time favorite coffee shops in the city. Great small bites (and desserts!), coffee, ambiance, friendly baristas, and free WiFi. There are very few places that can do it all but little oddfellows is one of them. Great place to meet up with friends or get some work done. Though I would note that their WiFi isn't the best but it's decent enough if you need to do some light surfing.

Yelp
A cafe in a bookstore, who wouldathought? Of course, this is the Elliot Bay Bookstore we're talking about.. genius! [genius guy meme] I like how it is "open air" to the bookstore, despite the section being the food section or whatever. The seating is semi-awkward because a pew-like bench wraps around the exterior with small tables and chairs on the insides.. can make for some close quarters and border disputes. There is some other actual 'tables with borders' on the inside as well, so luck of the draw as to where you get a seat. But a fantastic place to [gasp] read! Or study, or write, or drink coffee (or booze), or eat vegan (or not) treats, or whatever! Many a hip person will be spotted, but I dare you to not see someone that's hip on Capitol Hill. I DARE you!
