Little Spoon Cafe - Review - South Street - Philadelphia - The Infatuation

"Most weekend nights on South Street are fueled by PBR and Jim Beam, drag shows, jukeboxes, and late-night hoagies. Luckily, the mornings aren’t. Instead, you can go recharge at Little Spoon. Rather than a bouncer checking your ID at the door, you’ll be met by a friendly host who will let you know that it might be a while. They don’t take reservations, only have seating for about 20 people, and it’s one of the more popular AM spots in the area . Between the salvaged furniture and decorations, it feels a bit like you’re having breakfast in someone’s living room, but with way better food and no need to feel guilty about not doing your dishes. The menu’s full of sweet and savory options, including both lemon ricotta and cheddar chive pancakes. And if you’re looking for a nice spot to bring a breakfast date that offers orange juice and Bloody Mary mix for you to BYOB, you can’t do much better than this place." - Jordan Price

Tried little Susie’s today and will definitely be back for more. Pro tip they sell out quick so it’s best to go early to have all the options- Had the porkroll & cheese —the mushroom & Swiss—All were delicious but the mushroom Swiss was my favorite. Flavorful and the perfect ratio of meat to pastry. I was expecting the pastry to be too much, but to my surprise it was my favorite part. Although the coffee was sold out, that would have made it a great addition to the meal. Overall, everything was well made. Definitely want to explore more of the menu. Very reasonably priced as well! Once a pie is sold out they remove it from the menu updated very timely. The variety of options are amazing they have both sweet & savory. I will be coming back.

Google
This is such an interesting concept! You order at a window for hand pies & coffee. We love their chicken pot pies, but they’re ALWAYS SOLD OUT. Come early if you want to get most options!

I like the staff and I think this is a great addition to the neighborhood but I really wish the inventory management went a bit better. The pies are great but it’s so inconsistent which they will have and when- at some point it starts to feel like inadequate planning. I’m excited to give them more of my business, but it’s tough when I’ll come and they don’t have any of my top like 4 choices that day. This happens quite often.

Yum!!! After months of seeing the "Baking Soon" sign, it was exciting to see that they have finally opened for business. The current operation is a walk-up window and there were three pies to choose at the time- Philly cheesesteak, chicken pot pie, and apple. Philly cheesesteak is very good! Tastes like some of the best steaks I've had in the city, just in hand pie form. Chicken pot pie was also good with a decent amount of veggies with the chicken. Apple pie was sweet! A good classic pie. Everything tasted nice and fresh! Not sure if each pie is the same price, but three came to 16.50, so may be 5.50 each. Reasonable price for a filling treat! Looking forward to more pie varieties. Glad to have this spot in the neighborhood!

Google
Good food when they actually have it, but at this point it feels like they are taking up a spot better used for a consistent business. A 'breakfast' place should consistently have breakfast offerings, not just coffee and sweet pies. Annoying to park, walk over expecting to get breakfast and all they have is coffee or just coffee and sweets. Feels like they only care about the initial early morning rush. Not impressed over today.

I’m truly always satisfied with my pies every time and I love supporting this shop in our neighborhood! Pies are toddler-approved. Our favorites are the cheesesteak, mushroom swiss, chicken pot pie, blueberry lemon, and mocha brownie. Hoping this stays open forever!

Do not miss your morning coffee, tea or wonderful baked morning treat. I had sausage, egg cheese one day and Philly cheese baked patty sandwich. Just amazing…

Yelp
Yummy, yummy They have the best little pies. They have savory pies such as chicken pot pie and cheesesteak. They also have sweet pies such as honey crisp apple and pumpkin. All of the pies are delicious the crust is amazing and the content to dough ratio is perfect. Don't sleep on this little place. The staff is professional and patient so it's the perfect little takeout cafe.

Yelp
Busy work day and wanted a grab and go breakfast/coffee. Checked yelp for a location and found little Susie's coffee & pie. Patrons order outside through a window. I ordered coffee, a bagel with cream cheese, 2 cheesesteak , 2 apple pie pastries. There was one person in front of me and all together I would say the wait time was 6 mins. The coffee was good and the pastries had a nice flaky crust. I will try again as soon as the weather warms up!

Yelp
So good!! Stopped here this morning after driving by and everything was amazing! The coffee pictured is a medium and it was huge and delish, I got a mocha and it was perfect and not overly sweet. The girl working was very nice and helpful and suggested the cherry and cheesesteak pies to try and sweet and savory and they were both delish. Very soft and the filling was fresh. Definitely want to pop in and try some more one day soon!

Yelp
Such a nice little spot in the neighborhood!! Thank goodness for their coffee! Pies are delicious too. Not even a huge mushroom fan myself but the mushroom Swiss was delish! Short wait too. Very small menu which I think is in little Susie's favor as a quick pick me up spot.

Yelp
SUPER cute little place that just opened in newbold -- coffee is delish and the PIES ARE INSANE. i prefer the savory pies (personal preference bc im not a huge sweet pie fan in general BUT their sweet pies are very good if you like that ~genre~ of food), the cheesesteak one is so so so astronomically good and the DOUGH. i cannot emphasize this enough: this pie dough is some of the BEST DOUGH I HAVE EVER TRIED PLEASE IT IS SO GOOD YOU MUST TRY!!!!!! one more thing to note: the service is incredible. the first time i came there i didn't know they were about to close and the server STILL helped me with zero hesitation or upset or anything (couldn't have been me they're so strong for that) -- i didn't even know they were closed until i saw the sign and felt so horrible god (pls pls pls tip your servers!!!!!!!) but this person carried with them such grace, joy and kindness it was truly insane and wonderful and refreshing. (i don't know their name but they were blond and kind maybe mid 20s but they deserve a raise and all the pies and coffee they want.) anyways long review but that really stuck with me, thank you for the pies and the coffee and the kindness!

Yelp
Wow, wow, wow! I had passed by this place multiple times while walking my dogs, but I had never stopped and gotten anything until a few weeks ago. They have a changing variety of sweet and savory pies, along with a decent coffee menu. I've never gotten coffee there, but I've eaten about a dozen pies so far, and they are amazing! The last time I went I got and Italian meat and cheese pie and a pork pie, and they were so delicious I went back and bought some more for my husband and a friend who was staying with us. I've also had the apple and cherry pies, which were also outstanding. There is often a line of people waiting to order, so I don't seem to be alone in my opinion. This is a wonderful addition to the neighborhood!

Yelp
Amazing addition to the neighborhood! Absolutely DELICIOUS hand pies (both sweet and savory), great cold brew, and adorable walk-up window service. Super friendly staff. So far we've tried the apple pie, pork roll, and mushroom hand pies. Literally couldn't even pick a favorite. All 10/10.

Yelp
I'm thrilled that the South Philly location is now open. It's conveniently situated on my route home, so I can easily stop by. I also shared my thoughts on the Chestnut St. location in a review, and it's definitely worth the trip. The taste is identical, and I can't get enough of their coffee and pies. During my last visit, I tried the meatball pie, which was a delightful surprise. I was skeptical about how they could make it work, but they managed to create a meatball sub with a fraction of the calories (I hope). The crust was light, crispy, and crunchy, making it truly unique. I have no idea how they managed to fit so much flavor and literal meatballs into such a small pie, but it was amazing. You should definitely give it a try! Always excellent service. Would love to be able to go in and be seated at some point. Not sure that's this businesses style the Chestnut location is the same. Oh! And my car proudly displays their magnetic bumper sticker!
