Authentic Shanghai cuisine. Haven't had Shanghai dishes for quite a while and this one is recommended by my friend. Luckily to have the smoked chicken, which need to be ordered in advance, because one of the customer ordered and changed his mind. Therefore we had the chance to try the full of smoke flavor thus moist and smooth texture chicken. This one is perfect. All other dishes are very authentic. The hairy crab mixture noodles isn't the best but already meeting the above average standard. I guessed because this is not the hairy crabs season. The pan fried pork bun is juicy yet with the correct bun texture( not dumpling wrap texture). Nowadays, most of the famous pan fried pork bun isn't authentic at all. Quality provided and very fulfilling although it's a little bit pricey. It worths the price if you are looking for somewhere close by and convenient (Cannot compare to the price in mainland China of course) Modern ambiance and comfortable seating. Service is above average. Make sure to reserve seating in advance. We went during weekdays evening and 90% of the seats were full. Recommended and will come back.

Came here on 14th Feb. Food is average, not as good as a few years ago. Smoked eggs were nice, so as the brine duck. Make sure you skip the deep fried fish which was super fishy. I couldn’t finish one. Spring onion pastry was so so.

One of my favorite spots to visit in Hong Kong during hairy crab season! Definitely recommend 蟹粉炒粉皮 and 蟹粉小籠包. The dishes are consistently excellent, but the portions can be on the smaller side, and the prices are on the higher end. That said, considering the quality of the food and the Michelin-star rating, the prices are reasonable for a one-star restaurant. Overall, it’s definitely worth a visit for any hairy crab enthusiast!

The authentic shanghaise restaurant is one of the most prominent establishments. The fried pork bun was outstanding, while the shrimp was also excellent. However, the noodle dish was somewhat salty. The portion of the dishes was below average, however, the price tag was significantly higher.

Known to be one of the most old schooled and long standing restaurants serving traditional Shanghainese food. We had all the standard repertoire of good Shanghainese food. Tea smoked eggs, yellow eel, smoked fish, shredded fish, salt water duck, tea smoked chicken etc. we also ordered the yummy desserts to finish. Only comment is the chicken a bit on the fatty side, and that the food was served a tad too slowly. All around wonderful dining at Liu Yuan Pavilion.

Amazing food as always. Liu Yuen has been one of my favorite Shanghainese spots in hk. They offer all the tradition dishes like ma lan tou, vegetarian duck, vegetarian chicken, smoked eggs, smoked fish, 8 bao rice… just like how my grandmothers would’ve made them. Make sure you go during hairy crab season for some extra delicious hairy crab dishes. My favorite is hairy crab meat with tofu.

One of the top and old school "Shanghainese cuisine" in Hong Kong. A must try if you're local or want authentic Shanghai cuisine in Hong Kong. It'd definitely a bit pricey but it's worth in. Service is a bit subpar due to them favouring frequent clients. But the food and dishes make up for it. Not too big or too small but you do feel full afterwards. Their appetizers are almost semi full portions but their main dishes are a bit smaller strangely. Though the main thing is if you like " Hairy crabs" October - December is the season for it. The crab roe is the delicacy. It's an acquired taste and texture. But it's amazing in xiaolongbao or mixed in veggies or rice/noodles. Personally I prefer just eating the roe than the crab itself so it's relatively pricey but worth it in my opinion as it's more of once or twice a year kind of thing.

They time the dishes very well. It was a feast for 6 people. Starting with cold dishes of ham, jellyfish progressing to more filling dishes such as steamed eel (pre-order), honey pork / crispy bean curd tacos, and shrimp. Finishing off with soup and red bean dessert. It's clean, the service is attentive, the teapot is always full. Wonderful experience.

The food here is good and is one of the better spots for Shanghainese food in HK. Compared to other Shanghainese places I've had in HK the food is in the sweet side and sweetness level is similar to what you will find in Shanghai. This isn't good or bad it just depends on what you like. The pricing here is on the high side and is particularly pricey if you are ordering off the crab menu during hairy crab season. Food: 4.25 stars Service/environment: 3.25 stars Overall: 4 stars Recommendations: hairy crab stir fried bean noodles, scallion pancake, hairy crab xiao long bao The hairy crab menu is really great here. I'm not the biggest fan of hairy crab but I enjoy it as a component of a dish as opposed to eating just the crab. The hair crab bean noodles is highly recommended. It's a pricey dish at 450 HKD and the portion size is small. The hairy crab xiao long bao is also really good and also highly recommended. Surprisingly the dish I probably enjoyed the most was also the cheapest, the scallion pancake. The scallion was fragrant and the pancake had multiple layers of texture and crunch. This is one of the best versions I have ever had. The scallion was comparable to what I have had in Yilan, Taiwan which has world class scallion.

Its Michelin star is well deserved. Although we didn't go during the proper season (for its famous crab), it was still an amazing meal. The pan fried dumplings were perfect and bursted with flavour and juice inside. The salted egg yolk prawns were cooked to perfection. The rice was sticky and infused with that crab flavour. The roast chicken was some of best I've had in Hong Kong. Highly recommend a visit here. We stopped into this restaurant because it was close to our hotel. It looks quite fancy but we were still seated given our casual wear (hoodies and runners). The vibe is relatively fancy and The dishes are quite expensive for what they are We had the cold ham (good), crab brain xiao long bao (very tasty), wonton soup (delicious) and cold baby shrimp. The shrimp was mediocre but the wonton soup was very good. It had more of a chicken stock broth which was thicker than your usual wonton soup. Our bill was around 300 HKD which we felt was expensive given the dishes we ordered.

We walked in for lunch, and the Liu Yuan Pavillion didn't like our looks, the way we dressed, or maybe my breath, but with 3/4 of the seats empty, they said "NO TABLE!" My thoughts ventured to being an Anglo American and not wanted. Thus, be warned by this review.

Came here for dinner since it's near my relatives house and the fact I was interested in trying Shanghainese food. Considering all the different places I tried during my 22 day Asia trip, I didn't really have a lot of memories of this place, which meant nothing really stood out. I know their xiao long bao was quite good, however I've had better out there. Their buns were also okay and to my expectations. Service was hit and miss, but I didn't really judge them from that. I already knew that once I'm in HK, service is thrown out the window. I'll take what little I can in terms of service.

I came here for my cousin's birthday dinner. A Shanghainese restaurant that is... terrible in my honest opinion. I would highly recommend people from AGAINST coming here. Why? The food is very mediocre. For the cost, I can go somewhere much much better to eat something that actually tastes good. Need more convincing? The service is absolutely terrible. The wine is not good. Did I mention the service is horrendous? I had to ask them for extra vinegar and spicy paste 3 times before they finally brought it out. An eight years old girl next to me was like: "When are your vinegar and spicy paste coming??? I kind of wish they would forget so that you can ask a 4th time so that they know they keep forgetting!!" Oh goodness... Not only did they forget what I had asked them for - they forgot paid food orders too. My cousin ordered an additional vegetable dumpling. Never showed up. My cousin's husband asked for another order of sprite. Never showed... We ordered Man Tou. Never arrived either. We wanted to cut a birthday cake we brought into the restaurant to celebrate my cousin's birthday, an extra $100HKD. My cousin's older brother was upset, and demanded they waive the cake fee for all of the inconvenience. I tried negotiating and expressing my utmost discontent of how they have handled everything - since we are still hungry from food they have left off and forgot, they didn't care one bit. Just said sorry and said cake fee will stay if we want to cut it. We're not giving them any more money than whatever they gave us, so we took the cake back to my cousin's and cut it there. Verdict? This place is absolutely NOT worth it. Do not come here unless you want terrible service, even though they have an army of staff, and mediocre food that is overpriced. I will never come back here even if someone told me they would pay for my food. That's how much I don't like this place! -.-
