The Best Scorched Rice Dishes in London Restaurants | Eater London

"Saturday lunchtimes at L’Oculto in Brockley now mean paella, a new feature of the multitasking tapas restaurant, wine bar, and shop. Service starts at 1 p.m. for takeaway. The restaurant is currently open for dining-in Thursday evening through to Sunday lunchtime. L’Oculto shop is open in the early afternoon and it’s the ideal retailer for gourmand preppers anticipating another lockdown. There are plenty of high-end canned goods (a peculiarly Spanish obsession), including squid, mussels, sardines, and partridge, as well as cheeses, and an excellent selection of biodynamic wines." - Hester van Hensbergen

The Best Restaurants in Lewisham, South East London | Eater London

"A wine shop-cum-tapas bar serving a lavish array of Spanish ingredients, each dish at L’Oculto is a stand-out. The establishment is a labour of love from the owners of Flavours of Spain, an import business that buys all of of its sherry, cheese, ham and cava directly from suppliers across the Iberian Peninsula. Locals pack the restaurant to sip minimal intervention wines and snack on the creations of Galician chef Irene Loreno Muñoz: standards like pan con tomate and sweet flan with sherry cream are excellent, but watch out for specials like tortilla vaga, an open tortilla of runny eggs, poached onion, sea urchin caviar and fried parsley." - David Paw

Brockley’s Best Restaurants | Eat Out in Brockley, South East London | Eater London

"L’Oculto is one of those places that people like to keep ‘secret’ because it’s a cut above its peers in so many respects. Ana and Teresa started out as importers of food and wine, supplying unusual ingredients to chefs including Heston at The Fat Duck. They moved on to Brockley Market before hosting pop-ups and finally opened a first 25 cover restaurant which doubles as a wine shop. The produce is stellar, mainly because it’s imported directly from Spanish producers. Wines are focused on the low intervention, organic and biodynamic; plates of pulpo a la Gallega fly out of the kitchen, tender octopus gleaming underneath grassy olive oil and a rusty dusting of sweet and hot paprika. Try it with the Jose Aristegui Mencia — a light red wine which makes for a slightly less obvious but excellent pairing." - Helen Graves

A true gem of a wine bar. The wine selection is fantastic - and even better, the staff really know their stuff and are happy to help you choose the perfect bottle without being pushy. The food is something special. Every dish felt like a thoughtful, creative blend of flavours and aromas - new, surprising, and beautifully balanced. You can tell care and imagination went into everything. The atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming, with friendly, cheerful staff and a beautifully lit back garden that's perfect for lingering. We loved it and will definitely be back.

Really enjoyed the food here. Generous portions for tapas - we shared 4 plus some bread & olives which was a good amount. Paella was the best dish. Would be good to have more choice of wines by the glass. Outdoor seating at the front & back.

Phenomenal food, great atmosphere and service (and who knew they had a courtyard garden to enjoy in the sunshine?!). A treat of a meal on a special occasion. Thank you team.

Sensational Spanish restaurant in south London. The food is authentic and delicious, top quality ingredients cooked perfectly. 10/10 service and a super interesting wine list. Highly recommend!

Lovely atmosphere, service and wine. Food was mediocre, and portion sizes abysmal. Okay, if it's tapas, why are they charging £14.50 for 4 chunks of lamb with a single spoon of mash hiding underneath - we thought the higher prices were mains! My dish would cost less than £1 to make; there's markups and then there's chancing your luck!

The food is incredible! Try the asparagus paella (divine caramelised edge to it), the cheese board (tiny but exquisite and punchy cheese that should be (and was) enjoyed in small portions), the mackerel (out of this world), the sea bass ceviche (mindblowing). We initially thought it looked too expensive for a restaurant in Brockley, but then the food arrived and it was so delicious that we couldn’t believe the value! A new fave for sure, this will be one for birthdays and anniversaries!

Great authentic Spanish food with excellent wine knowledge and pairing. Seasonal menu changes every time but same quality and flavour - feel very welcome here and highly recommend
