"If you’re looking for a casual burger in or around Coconut Grove, Lokal will always be there for you. But even if you’re not craving their version of a frita—with potato stix, bacon, and guava jelly—it’s still worth coming here for the fried alligator and a beer. You can stare at all the dogs people bring here while you consume both. Also, check out the vermouth bar next door after you're done, which Lokal also runs." - ryan pfeffer, virginia otazo
"Opened in 2011, Lokal predates the national smashburger movement. Back then, the burger trend was replacing buns with doughnuts (that used to be an option here too). But Lokal has remained committed to un-smashed burgers, and this place remains a reliable stop for a beer and a burger that requires you to open your mouth like you're yawning. Everyone in this city has a go-to Lokal order. Ours (and most folks) is the frita, which has a salty/sweet combination of potato stix and guava jelly. It tastes like simpler times." - ryan pfeffer, mariana trabanino, virginia otazo
"Lokal isn’t necessarily a classic, but they understand the Grove assignment as well as anyone. The graffiti on the walls reminds us of those spraypainted posters artists used to sell on the sidewalks back in the ‘90s. This place isn’t self-serious and knows you’re here to get uncomfortably full on a guava jelly frita and cold beer. They also have a meatloaf on the menu—for your dog. See? They get it." - virginia otazo
"Eating at Lokal has always been about getting just a little too full. So their key lime pie is appropriately massive. The huge slice has an ultra-thick graham cracker crust that’ll require some effort to break through, and comes topped with a healthy scoop of fresh whipped cream and an additional crumble of graham cracker. It’s a maximalist pie for sure, but it’s got a nice sweet/tart balance too. You can find it on the menu at the many Kush locations throughout Miami." - ryan pfeffer, mariana trabanino
