Lonesome Rose (Andersonville)

Four of us gathered for a wholesome family catch up and we left as fully fledged Lonesome Rose food enthusiasts. Chips and salsa arrived first and immediately justified their existence. Proper crunch, proper salt, and red and green salsas that tasted alive rather than poured. Bright, sharp, balanced. A kitchen that understands proportion. I ordered the Baja burrito and what landed was a masterclass in structural engineering. Tight wrap. No mid meal collapse. No rice avalanche. Just disciplined layering and bold, confident flavour. On the side, beans rich and soulful. Extra rice perfectly cooked, fluffy, every grain behaving itself. As for the other three eating, I could not possibly comment. I was deep in a committed relationship with my burrito and conversation temporarily ceased. A sacrifice I was willing to make. Dips and accompaniments were on point across the board. Nothing lazy. Nothing phoned in. Service moved like a well drilled ensemble cast. Not one rigid server hovering, but a team flowing in and out with ease. Friendly, efficient, seamless. Thank you to the host who kindly took our family photo. A small act that spoke volumes. Great team. Great food. Great atmosphere. Lonesome Rose knows exactly what it is doing. And does it very well.

A lovely place to get meals and drinks with friends and family. Their margaritas are very good!! The food here is very good also. The atmosphere is very nice and comfy. The staff here are very friendly and helpful. A Good spot!!

We had a great time at Lonesome Rose!! Ether was our server and they were so kind and attentive! Our food came out super fast and it was really great quality for the price. Will definitely recommend and be back!

Service and atmosphere were fine. Nothing really positive or negative to say honestly. My two stars are directed solely towards my one experience with the food. I ordered “The Burrito” on the menu and subbed Carne Asada for an extra $3. It was terrible. The burrito was presented on a serving tray covered in about a 1/8th inch of greasy oil which made it completely inedible. The only flavor in the burrito was used rancid oil. So i would just recommend anyone reading this review to go buy and ingest a $2 tub of cooking oil from Jewel instead of coming here to this establishment and spending $20 on a burrito.

Great food for a decent price. Decent portions too! Very tasty tacos; brilliant vegan truck stop nachos and a great watermelon salad. The vegan garbanzo bowl was delicious too. The ice cream taco and the churro bites were brilliant choice ; so was the creamed corn . The waiting time for food was long however. Cameron who served us was polite and very helpful. Toilets were clean. We could not get a Friday evening sit in; so we had to go for lunch time. Book online as it is busy during weekends This place is very close to and walking distance from California station on the blue line metro

There is a nice ambience. I got a vegan bowl, it was $14, orange juice, $5. The portion sizes were small for the price, in my opinion.

The food is amazing. The atmosphere is fantastic. The staff are friendly, attentive, and genuine. We love this spot! Also, the sideroom lounge is very cool! Great deals including a shot of tequila + beer for $5 or whiskey and pickle beer for $11.

Simple delicious taqueria food done right. Do not sleep on the frozen margaritas they go down really smooth. When you're in the mood for something tasty and unfussy, unfancy and just easy and fun this place hits.

My friend and I recently stopped by Lonesome Rose in Andersonville area. It's a Tex-Mex spot that caught our attention with its appealing exterior and inviting outdoor seating. Inside, the ambience was nice, with dim lighting creating a cozy vibe. My friend had highly recommended this place, so we decided to stop by for some snacks and drinks. We ordered the nachos, guac, and tinga de garbanzo, paired with a frozen margarita. While the atmosphere was enjoyable, the food itself was just okay--nothing particularly stood out. The frozen margarita was decent, but overall, food was more on the average side for us.. It's a decent spot if you're in the neighborhood and craving Tex-Mex.

The presentation of food and drinks was a bit underwhelming, so I was thinking it wouldn't live up to the hype. However, everything was AMAZING and very tasty. There are great vegan options too and many things can be made vegan. I had the Lonesome Vegetarian Burrito made vegan and it was delish. The chickpea crema is great! The service was also good, even during peak dinner hour. Giving 4 stars because the music and atmosphere is a bit loud. It was pretty difficult to have a conversation. I wouldn't recommend going there with grandparents or friends who are hard of hearing.

It was a great experience from the time my friend and I walked in to the time we left. We just met up for drinks but im looking forward to the food next time I visit. I got the ranch water, which was pretty good. Ive had other versions of this drink and they were not the most balanced or flavorful. The service was lovely, felt very seen and looked after. The ambiance is quite nice. I enjoy the low light feel.

Swung by lonesome rose while we were out and about in Andersonville. We were immediately impressed by the ambience. There's lots of seating, mood lighting, open and chic ambience which was impressive. They also have a huge bar. The service was fast. We ordered chips and guac, veggie tacos and a couple cocktails. The food was good but nothing special about it. The cocktails were really strong in my opinion. The frozen mezcal cocktail was a bit off for me. I don't think frozen mezcal is a good idea as it takes away most of its smokiness. Overall, it's a nice place to swing by for a meal or quick drinks but the hype about lonesome rose is something I would debate.

Lonesome Rose has modern, moody Latin vibes and gorgeous interior design. The crunchy beefy quesorito was unreal!! Flavorful layers of rice and beef with and added crunch and covered in liquid gold (queso). This can feed two - or make for great left overs.

Tasty Mexican spot for dinner. The menu is what you'd expect and offers everything from nachos to tacos and burritos. We tried a variety of things- a taco bowl, tacos and a burrito. The queso was delicious- I recommend you get that for an appetizer. Service was fast and everything by tasted fresh. Margaritas were VERY good. We got the churros for dessert and they had raspberry and chocolate dipping sauces. I unfortunately demolished those before I could take a picture.

Fun spot on Clark Street in Andersonville! I stopped by this weekend on a beautiful sunny day and we were happy to find a table available outside. The outside seating is just off the sidewalk but it's a nice little area and it was fun to people-watch. We got chips and guac and the street corn along with some NA cocktails. The guac was pretty good but the street corn was DELICIOUS! We were also really happy with the drinks (we got the NA daiquiri and margarita). Would like to return and try more from the menu!

This Lonesome Rose location is absolutely beautiful inside with the skylight, plants, and tile work! On a Saturday evening, we also only had about a 20 minute wait for 3 people. :) Overall, a bit pricey for the area and food, but a really cool spot! We started with the truck stop nachos with carne asada, and we really enjoyed them! The cheese sauce and pickled onions were both great, and it was a good portion for 3-4 people to share! Lavender lemonades were also very pleasant and light!! The beefy quesarito is also such a great guilty pleasure - I LOVE crunch in a burrito, so this spoke to me. The beef and other ingredients were also really well seasoned! My friends got theirs smothered, which was also tasty. However, it is a bit large so I think getting is smothered makes it harder to eat and causes soggy leftovers. Both options have their pros though! Choco taco was actually not very chocolatey, but I think it's for the best! The crushed pretzel topping was amazing, and the ice cream was so pleasantly spiced. A great end to the meal!!

Uses vegan queso and chick pea crema. Amazing texture of chick pea crema. Chick pea crema is only vegan protein option. The taco bowl is a solid portion but mostly rice! Service was exceptional. The waiter explained the menu and ingredients. The waiter made excellent suggestions and was attentive. Restaurant is cool, both temperature and style wise. Highly recommend those who have vegan friends or curious about vegan food!

We were finally able to make it to the new Andersonville Lonesome Rose location. We had tried a couple of times in the weeks after it opened but the wait was just too long, so we decided to just wait for things to cool down. It was definitely worth the wait! We were able to join the online waitlist before arriving, which was helpful to have a good idea of our timeline. When we arrived, we were able to get seated right away. The host folks were helpful and friendly and we loved our waitress. She was so friendly and attentive. The drink list is fantastic! My husband appreciated the beer list and chose one of the IPA's. I got the Jamaica Punch and really enjoyed it! We started with the chips and salsa and it was a great deal! So many yummy chips! The salsa were also tasty. A crisp and bright salsa verde and a creamy pineapple rose salsa. I did not LOVE either salsa, but they were solid. We each got three tacos and that was definitely enough. Our only crossover was the Al Pastor, and that was DIVINE! So flavorful and rich! I got the beef ranchero supreme and was not blown away. Felt like it was something I could get anywhere, or even make. Our favorites were the fried chicken and fried fish tacos. The flavors were fresh, crisp, and delicious! I almost got another fish taco it was so good! Prices were fairly reasonable and the space was wide open, clean, and hip. I could definitely see coming back with friends to hangout for tacos and drinks. We look forward to adding Lonesome Rose to our rotation of favorite local restaurants!

Great new spot in Andersonville!! The decor is beyond cute. Al pastor bowl was great!! A bit small but delicious!

Nice queso, mediocre salsa, fine guacamole. Staff was a little aloof and over it. Louder than ideal but it was bearable because it wasn't full. As it got more full it got too loud.

I've been hearing about this place from a couple of friends so decided to stop by for a snack. I got the crunchy beefy quesorito and the chacotaco. I was nervous about all the hype around the quesorito but it was good. I liked the different textures in and out of the burrito. I would say it is a bit too salty for me and a bit oily to my liking. I would probably get it again though especially as a late night snack. In regards to the chacotaco, I was excited because in the middle was horchata ice cream but the horchata ice cream lowkey tasted like banana ice cream and needed much more cinnamon. The nuts on the chacotaco were a bit okd and definitely tasted like it. I won't be getting the dessert taco. Service ran smoothly and this is definitely a cute place for brunch or to get a meal with friends.

Dined at Lonesome Rose with a group of 8 on a Friday night in Chicago. An upscale Mexican restaurant, the ambiance was bright yet also cozy. We got two margarita pitchers to share, a house and a spicy, in which each served 5-6 margaritas. Neither were too strong but the spicy margarita was one of the spiciest margaritas I've ever had (yum!) For food, we tried the chips with queso and salsa, which were good but nothing too special. For entrees we tried the crunchy beef quesorito which was a family favorite. It was cheesey and gooey and cooked to a perfect crispness; however, it was VERY meat heavy so I definitely recommend splitting. We also tried lots of tacos but the Baja Fish and Carne Asada were the standouts. I do recommend putting your name on the mobile waitlist. We only had an hour wait, which was great for a large group on Friday night in Chicago. Overall, highly recommend!

My mom and I were able to easily get seated on Saturday dinner at 5pm without reservations. This place would be good for groups. The restaurant has a vibrant and modern vibe with beautiful glass ceilings. The inside is a bit loud, but my mom and I could still carry a conversation. There's a lot of echos. I had a beef burrito, and my mom got the crunchy beefy quesorito. You can't really go wrong with a burrito. It had a little kick to it (I'm not sure what it was) that I wasn't expecting but appreciated. My mom really enjoyed her quesorito and all the garlic rice inside the burrito. She also like that it was crunchy. Everything she was looking for in her meal that day. Both burritos you could eat half and take the other home. We also got a frozen raspberry mezcal margarita and glass of a corn lager. Hannah our server offered to get us a tasting of the beer before we committed to it (which was so nice. I didn't know that was an option). I thought it'd have some kind of corn taste to it, but it was just a nice beer to drink. We finished off our dinner with a yummy dulce de leche pie from bang bang. Perfect to share for two

Lonesome Rose is my go-to place for margaritas and vibes. The frozen margarita at Lonesome Rose is sponsoring my Summer of drinking. The one thing that would make the frozen drinks better is drinking them on a patio! My go-to is the swirl margarita which consists of the classic and raspberry flavors. The inside of the restaurant is very cute. It follows the new instagram style restaurant decor that a lot of the new restaurants are following. You will definitely be able to take a lot of cute photos. Please note that they do not allow reservations so you will definitely wait depending on the date and time. I went on a Friday around 6pm/6:30pm and ended up having a one hour wait. Luckily there are a lot of places that you can grab a quick drink while you wait to get the text to tell you to come back. The bar area is small an gets crowded so it is not really a place to hangout while you wait. When my group came back to check the time after an hour of waiting I found out the new wait time (if we hadn't already put our name on the list) would be two hours. Compared to the places around Lonesome Rose their happy hour offerings are kind of weak. They offer three kinds of frozen margaritas and the only food option I saw was the chips and dip platter. I don't remember if they offered anything else but it wasn't memorable so I would stick to the drinks and happy hour hop if you are trying to eat on a budget. The non-happy hour prices align with the area for most of the sit-down places but compared to the mom and pop style Mexican restaurants around it is a little pricer but not much better. I have tried the fried chicken burrito and the crunchy beef quesorito along with the chaco-taco. The fried chicken burrito wasn't that great, it has a lot of filler in it (mainly too much cabbage). The cruncy beef quesorito is a popular item and unbelievably cheesy. If you do not like cheese steer clear of this dish because it is tasty but the cheese is a bring factor in the dish. It is my go-to order because bring on the cheese! The chaco-taco is a must try. It is very popular and will sell out if you visit the restaurant too late in the evening. When I visited for a 7pm-ish dinner they only had one chaco-taco left. The horchata ice cream takes the chaco-taco to the next level compared to the store brand version. I shared the dessert with my husband and to this day I wish I had it all to myself.

Group of 3 that had reservations on a Friday evening. The restaurant was bustling, but we were able to be seated quickly. Waitress was a bit slow to check in, but food and drinks were quick. Queso served with hot chips = 10/10 every time. Very solid starter. The quesorito was amazing! Spicy, salty, savory... all of the things. Highly recommend. Group also had several of the tacos and all were very very good. The margaritas were top tier - especially the swirl! Will definitely be back!

This place is adorable! I've never actually eaten here so I can't speak on the food but I can tell you the servers are the sweetest and I've been back twice and the drinks are very consistent. They pack a punch at a great price! The frozen swirl and the Baja blackout are my two favorites that I've tried. Great for an after dinner drink or pre-dinner spot!

There have been several businesses in and out of this exact spot over the past few years, but I think Lonesome Rose is going to stick. I've been to their Logan location several times and have always enjoyed it. I felt a little more stressed at the Andersonville location due to the high demand to visit this new restaurant. We had to wait about an hour for a table. They do not take reservations, walk-in only. And honestly, I don't love that (for any restaurant). It's definitely a hot spot. Interior dining is LOUD. Very loud. Distractingly loud. Food was fine. I had a taco salad. It was good. I also had a side of elote.

Tried them for Northside Restaurant Week. The portions were large, which was unexpected (in a good way) for a restaurant week option. The food is a modern take on Tex-Mex dishes, and I felt the food was lacking in the basics. For example, one of the salsas was an orange salsa that had an odd flavor that no one at my table liked. Additionally, my burrito was not bad, but it didn't do the beans and cheese well enough to warrant the modern aspects to it (tater tots, etc.). Willing to try again, but I was not blown away.

I'd actually give this place 3 1/2 stars. The interior design is trendy but I felt the place was too loud even though it wasn't packed with people. I didn't like the lavender lemonade because it tasted sour. I was happy to see multiple vegan options and ordered guacamole and chips which were delicious and a vegan burrito. I enjoyed the burrito but did not like the vegan crema because I am not a fan of the smoky taste which was the main flavor. Staff was friendly, attentive, and helpful! Bathrooms were very clean and roomy.

Good service. Good drinks. Half Chicken special was a little dry. I would stick with the tacos and bowls. Great atmosphere. Well worth the visit.

I love the food and the atmosphere. I have also enjoyed their happy hour out front. I just wish some of the bartenders could be a little more excited to see us and be a little more pleasant and conversational. It's not that hard to smile and say welcome!

Buttery biscuits were delicious and the umami flavor was really good. The double egg and crisp onion fries really set it off. Used to a bit more gravy but it didn't detract from the dish.

It's Labor Day, so we figured we'd drop in for happy hour, since it's 3-5 Monday - Friday and when else can you take advantage of that? When our bill came, we realized we must have been a few minutes shy as our first of two rounds of margaritas was full price. We asked our waiter since it could not have been more than 10 minutes early, but no luck. I suppose that's not unreasonable, but maybe give people a heads up when they are just a few minutes shy and point to the happy hour display on the table when they order?

So delicious. The margaritas and burrito are worth it alone but the service and ambiance was fresh and welcoming. Manager came by to check on us and we loved that extra attention. Great spot with a lively atmosphere and the price point was spot on. Will be returning!

It's a hot mess of Octavio all over again. You order individually, it's brought out "family Style." You have to figure out who ordered what... *Strike 1*. All they have are margaritas, burritos and tacos. Walked out of there $215 for 4 people and the attitude is really, really, well, we could feel it with each question we had. *Strike 2.* We didn't even get everything we ordered because it's so goddamn loud in there your server can not even hear you. *Strike 3.* That's a lot of money for tacos and burritos. Oh, and it's served on metal pans that remind me of science class dissecting a frog in high school. Bad memories. *Strike 4.* We have supported this address since it was Charlie's Ale House, Ombra/Acre, Octavio, Bird Cage, now Lonesome Rose. I hope they get their act together and do well.

Another slam dunk by our local geniuses! Thank you for creating such a wonderful welcoming world at all your spots. I can always count on your restaurants for a neighborhood feel, great design, extra friendly hospitality. Not last, excellent remarkable food and drinks at a fair price for high quality.

Food is always good, but sadly service not so much. We got seated and waited for 10 min for someone to at least bring menus. The table next to us got seated and got menus. They ordered and got their drinks while we were still waiting for menus. We walked out very disappointed.

Holy crap, this place is 3 days new and dialed in. Tiffany and Oscar took fab care of us as we satisfied our curiosity with mezcal, tequila, and truck stop nachos. Chill, fabulous vibe filled with natural light from gigantic canopy skylight. This place is going to be big.

Lonesome Rose is a great addition to Andersonville's bustling strip. It is first come, first serve. In the three times I've gone my wait times have been between 25-40 minutes because the place is jumping. The bar is also open, first come so you can wait there if there's space. The atmosphere is light and fun, it's a great place to take a date! The margaritas are delicious and well balanced. Tried one with added strawberry flavor and it tasted natural rather than fake, which is great. Of the drinks I've tried, the one I didn't enjoy as much was the rum-chata. The balance was a bit too rum heavy so it overpowered the horchata, still an okay drink though. Food wise, I've tried the chips and salsa, al pastor bowl, crunchy beefy quesorito, sal's carne asada taco, the baja taco, and they have a dessert taco that is simply delicious. My favorite by far is the quesorito, the flavors are simple but go together so well. All three tacos or bowls were cooked well and packed with flavor too! I also wanted to mention the service has been great all three times with very attentive waitstaff that work together well and are very friendly. Lonesome Rose is one of my new favorites and I'll definitely be back.

Decent cocktails. Beautiful interior. The food is where I draw the line. I'm not sure anything about this place is on the same page. Giant Hobo Code signs hang on the pink walls, with a very Mexican food named menu. However when the food comes; it will be nickel and dimed in order to actually get a full meal and the flavor forgets to show up. The queso is great - and eerily reminiscent of the velveeta + Rotel queso. A great place to start off the night with a strong drink in a cute atmosphere- but if you're looking for good Mexican food, keep walking.

How? How do you mess up drinks? My friend and I were on our way to Pizza Lobo up the street where we know the drinks are killer, but decided to stop in here instead. The drinks are almost laughably small, but more egregious, every single one was absolutely terrible. We got 5 different ones: Jamaica Punch, the Daily Daiquiri, two different frozen margaritas and the Pool Hopper - which was the only one that was just okay, borderline decent. After our first two terrible drinks, we thought, "Well, there's no way to screw up a margarita, right?" Wrong. I ordered the regular frozen margarita and added mango flavor - which was just frozen mango chunks mixed in - and it was the most disgusting thing I've ever had. I would have sent it back, but the server seemed over us from the minute we sat down, even though we ended up ordering appetizers, food, dessert, and tipped well, as we always do. The food wasn't bad, if maybe a little overpriced, and I could have taken the sauces accompanying the churro bites like shots - one of the only redeeming items we tried. I'd have rather drunk a vat of those than any of their drinks. My friend and I love cocktails, and have tried many over the city, and these were some of the absolute worst - if not THE. We couldn't figure it out. Everything had almost a metallic taste, and we concluded maybe something was off with their ice machine. In any case, as nice as the ambience may be, I don't think we will be coming back.

I always appreciate when a trendy restaurant has multiple vegan options that aren't just a boring salad. I got the vegan nachos and was blown away - the flavors were incredible and the portion was huge. Will definitely be returning! (I do have to say though I'm always disappointed when a Mexican restaurant doesn't give free chips and salsa to start lol)

Dylan was our server and he was so cool and sweet and wonderful! It is his birthday tomorrow so everyone say happy birthday who comes in. Came for Saturday lunch and ordered the Baja Cali burrito. The waiter said "I get extra remoulade when I order it, is that good for you?" Of course. It was and I highly recommend. 10/10. Great service. Spicy marg was s p i c y lol but good. Great music. Check this spot out. Great addition to the neighborhood. Patio opens next week.

Ambiance is on point. Our food and drinks were amazing. I had the chickpea tinga tacos, and a ranch water to drink. Our server was very friendly, and the food came out quickly.

Hard pass here. This place is worth skipping. The food is mediocre, the servings are small and everything is over priced. On top of that, it was all cold when it came out. I will repeat, our hot food items came to our table cold, like the food was sitting in tubs for hours, waiting to be plated and served. First red flag was when the server compared the bowls to chipotle. We should have left right then. Extra star for the atmosphere. Maybe sitting at the bar and ordering a $50 margarita pitcher is the way to go.

Solid taco spot with a nice ambiance as well, their carne asada taco was my fav but I definitely want to come back to try the quesarito and sit out on the patio as well!! They have so many vegetarian and vegan dishes as well which is awesome for dining with groups

Outstanding drinks. The bartender really knew what he was doing. The food was decent but nothing to write home about. Nice atmosphere but super loud music. (Not to be the old lady, but let's be honest - the neighborhood has an older demographic. ) I'd go back for drinks and chips. Spicy margarita was fantastic.

I've never reviewed a restaurant I haven't had food from. I was turned away. But first, my husband has eaten there twice, and he wasn't that impressed with the food or the service but I tried to defend since it was the original owners of Parsons and we love them so he relented. I really wanted to try it. So I went on a really nice warm evening a couple of weeks ago and wanted to sit outside so badly. The host or waiter, I wasn't quite sure which one he was, approached me and asked me if you could get me a table. I said yes, do you have anything out back or upfront outside? He said, "I just sat at the last person outback we don't have any more tables". And I said "well I can wait at the bar", which there was no one sitting there, while I waited for an outdoor seat. He said "no we are all full right now but I'll see you indoors happily". I said "are you saying I cannot sit outside or sit around and wait for a table to come up?", he said "yes we don't do that but you can sit inside". And I said never mind, I want to just sit outside and I have time to kill but I will go kill it in another restaurant. I've never been blatantly treated so rudely in my life at a restaurant, and this is if this is actually the policy of the restaurant, then sorry for the waiter, he works in a crappy place. I've talked to a bunch of other friends as I know a lot of people in the neighborhood and I have heard many similar experiences to this as well as people who have told me not to bother again because it wasn't that great. It's a beautiful space. I hope someone will one day make a good restaurant there

Great addition to Andersonville to stop for tacos, horchata soft serve and fantastic margaritas and other cocktails. The bar and indoor dining area is inviting and spacious while the back patio is an awesome oasis on Clark St. Staff is also knowledgeable and friendly.
