Long Dtai

"After crossing shallow waters, you reach this private island resort off Samui’s east coast. From the restaurant’s terrace, diners enjoy panoramic views of the bay as they sample chef David Thompson’s fab creations. His Southern Thai menu is deceptively simple and his consummate culinary talent is revealed in the details. Start with grilled squid, marinated in turmeric and coconut milk to accentuate its freshness. Marine sustainability is the name of the game here." - Michelin Inspector

We had such a lovely dinner at Long Dtai restaurant, we only stayed a short time at Cape Fahn but wanted to visit the restaurant again! Every dish was delicious and presented wonderfully. Highly recommend the cocktails too

Long Dtai means traveling in the south defines our dining experience at the restaurant very much. My curiosity as a fan of David Thompson from many places in London & Bangkok, we decided to dine there. We found the authentic southern Thai cuisine with locally & sustainability products took us to the culinary journey of the beautiful South of Thailand. We love the fresh crabs in the yellow curry soup. The harmony of fresh ingredients & spices are excellent. The location, the service are simply elegant.

Long Dtai by David Thompson is a must-visit restaurant, offering an unforgettable dining experience. I am fortunate to be spending my holiday at Cape Fahn in Samui, where we will enjoy dinner at this acclaimed establishment. Long Dtai's cuisine emphasizes local ingredients to create extraordinary, authentic southern Thai dishes. Featured in the Michelin Guide, the restaurant guarantees a delectable dining experience. My favorite dishes from the menu include: - **Aromatic Beef Skewers with Cumin and Turmeric:** The beef is incredibly juicy, and the aroma of fresh Thai herbs is delightful. 480 baht - **Coconut and Turmeric Curry with Blue Swimmer Crab:** Typically a favorite of mine, this dish here is exceptional, with incredibly fresh crab. 980 baht - **Palm Sugar Dumplings in Coconut Cream (Dessert):** Easy to eat, with the perfect sweetness from the palm sugar. 270 baht The restaurant operates from 18:00 to 21:30. If you arrive early, you can visit the bar, open from 17:00 to 22:00. Please note that the restaurant is closed every Wednesday. Guests from outside the hotel are welcome, but it is advisable to make a reservation in advance. Additionally, allow extra time for the hotel's transit boat to reach the restaurant. If it's not the rainy season, I recommend sitting outside to enjoy the island view. Overall, I believe this restaurant is likely to receive a Michelin award next year, thanks to its impressive flavors, ambiance, and service. Thank you for providing me with such wonderful memories.

Visiting this restaurant will be my top tip for anyone coming to Koh Samui! From getting across to the island, to the views and ambience as you walk in, absolutely stunning experience. Live music, cooking in an open kitchen and the food was all delicious. We were lucky to grab happy hour cocktails and the bill was surprisingly cheap for the quality and setting. Make sure you come before sunset!

Delicious southern Thai food in a stunning setting. The cocktails were very tasty too. The beef skewer was some of the best beef I’ve had in a long time. We also had the spicy local scallops with fresh ginger and were pleased to actually have spice for the first time since arriving to Koh Samui. The egg curry was also outstanding and a very flavorful and unique dish. I would absolutely recommend to friends and look forward to returning on a future trip

I had some expectations for Long Dtai, given its Michelin recommendation, but my experience was deeply disappointing. First Night I started with the local fish, which was a disaster. The fish was overcooked to the point of being almost inedible—dry, flavorless, and tasting only of stale garlic. To make matters worse, we were seated in a section where the speaker system was broken, resulting in an awkwardly silent and lifeless atmosphere. The ambiance felt more like a funeral than a fine dining experience. Second Night Despite our poor first night, we decided to give Long Dtai another chance. This time, the waitress informed us they didn’t have the local fish available. Honestly, I saw this as a blessing, given how terrible it was the previous evening. Instead, I opted for the beef curry, hoping for redemption. Unfortunately, it was another letdown—bland, lacking depth of flavor, and no better than what you’d expect from a low-end takeout place. Overall Impression I’m genuinely baffled as to why Long Dtai holds a Michelin recommendation. The food is far below average, and the atmosphere was equally unremarkable. I’ve had far better meals at casual Asian street food stalls for a fraction of the price. Save your time and money—this restaurant is not worth it.

The location of the restaurant is beautiful but the food and the service are ridiculous for the price you pay.. the food is dry and nothing special! Food in local restaurants on the street is much better. The waitresses are trainees, speak very limited English and have no idea what fine dine service is. Would not recommend it..
