First Visit to [Restaurant Name] - A Dim Sum Feast
We decided to check out this place after hearing about it from Rockstar Eater on YouTube. He raved about the flavors, so we had to see for ourselves. Right away, we noticed that the front lobby area is spacious--great for when it gets busy, giving you a place to sit while waiting, unlike many other dim sum spots. The décor looks like it was trendy in the early 2000s, and you can tell they invested some money into it.
Beyond dim sum, they offer a wide variety of dishes, though it's not the cheapest option. Many of the tables were occupied by large groups celebrating, which makes sense--the pricing is more suited for a gathering rather than a quick, casual meal. My husband and I love variety, so we ended up spending $80 (including tip). It felt a bit pricey, but we left with plenty of leftovers.
What We Ordered:
* Lotus Leaf-Wrapped Sticky Rice - Stuffed with diced pork, chicken, a piece of Chinese sausage, and duck yolk. Nice touch!
* Char Siu Bao - Fluffy, slightly on the sweeter side, decent but not exceptional.
* Football-Shaped Meat Pie - Deep-fried with a mochi-like outer shell. So good and larger than usual!
* BBQ Pork Rice Noodle Roll - The same BBQ pork as in the char siu bao, wrapped in a soft noodle roll with a soy-based sauce (almost like ponzu but without the tang). Very tasty.
* Shu Mai - Huge, filled with pork and a generous amount of shrimp. Came out piping hot and was delicious.
* Pork Riblets with Kabocha Pumpkin - Coated in starch and steamed. Could have been cooked a little longer, but my husband enjoyed it.
* Shredded Pork & Century Egg Porridge - Completely lacking in flavor. A pass for us.
* Scallop & Shredded Crab Dumplings - Oddly, the menu didn't mention shrimp, but these were packed with it. The crab was real, which was a nice surprise. My favorite dish--absolutely scrumptious!
* Squid Ink Egg Custard Bao - Looks fancy, but this is common at dim sum places. Still, very good, with a rich eggy lava filling.
* Deep-Fried Mochi Balls with Egg Custard - Similar to the squid ink baos but slightly greasier. I actually preferred these over the squid ink version.
Final Thoughts:
This was a great find, though in hindsight, we could have skipped a few items. The porridge was a definite miss, and we probably didn't need two similar eggy desserts. If we had cut back on a few things--like skipping the sticky rice and choosing just one dessert bao--we would have saved about $21, making the final bill more reasonable for two people.
That said, we'd definitely return, just with a slightly more strategic order next time!
