"Hong Kong native Lam Ming Kin is one of the rising chefs specialising in Western cuisines in Taiwan. After setting up Chou Chou, which features French classics, in 2016, he opened contemporary French joint Longtail. Both restaurants were recognised in the MICHELIN Guide Taipei 2018. The former won a Michelin Plate, while the latter took a Michelin star — no small feat to achieve in such a short time. When Lam received the invitation letter from the MICHELIN Guide asking him to attend the award ceremony in his working attire, he knew it was a sign that he had got the star." - MICHELIN Guide Taipei Editorial Team

"Chef Lam Ming Kin has worked his way through some of the world’s most prestigious kitchens in cities like Paris, New York, and Hong Kong. Longtail, his latest effort (Lam already helms the French-leaning restaurant ChouChou), further showcases the chef’s affinity for menus featuring contemporary cuisine with an alchemic mix of flavors inspired by his travels. Expect a wide range of Southeast Asian and East Asian elements starring in complex dishes, like shrimp sliders with pickled onions and Sriracha mayo and a pork chop with sukiyaki sauce and taro. The impressive cocktail menu and late-night kitchen cater to after-hours diners. [$$ - $$$]" - Clarissa Wei

Google
Their food overall was quite delicious, I preferred some dishes more than others, specifically the tuna tartare was amazing!!! Some of the dishes sort of lacked depth of flavor, like the fried crystal dumpling, it was also slightly greasy. I found the pineapple pork and egg sandwich to be a little confusing in flavors, but still not bad, for me it was a touch too sweet. We really enjoyed the fried pork belly and the beef short rib! Their drinks are really really good! I’m sort of sad I missed out on them when they were 1 star Michelin rating, seems like so much potential here but overall we had a great experience. Plating was beautiful, staff super friendly and helpful. The restaurant itself is also very beautifully decorated. The seats are comfy. Will come back for sure!

The restaurant offers a diverse selection of dishes, each with rich and layered flavors. It is a place that combines sophistication with high-quality cuisine, making it highly recommended for guests who appreciate refined and exquisite dining.

If my understanding correct, Longtail lost their Michelin star in 2024. I hear the chef has gone elsewhere. Food is still very good. I'd highly recommend the fish tartare, fig toast with ricotta cheese and duck breast. The uni with crispy rice was standard, not bad but nothing special. Our group didn't finish the grilled squid if that says anything. The shrimp slider was pretty good. Grouper was simple and pleasant but nothing spectacular. My biggest disappointment was the crispy pork belly. I want my pork skin to be crunchy, but this was rock hard and also under seasoned. The fried chicken seemed out of place for this type of place and menu. Again, not bad but nothing to write home about. Cocktails were quite good and we even enjoyed some wine and champagne. Service was excellent.

We had an exceptional dining experience at Longtail while visiting in Taipei. The culinary experience is nothing short of spectacular, with every dish reflecting creativity, precision, and exquisite flavors. The Michelin star chef's attention to detail is evident in the beautifully presented plates, each offering a delightful balance of textures and tastes. The ambiance is elegant yet welcoming, making it perfect for both special occasions and casual dinners. The service is impeccable, with staff who are knowledgeable, attentive, and professional. Longtail is a great for anyone seeking a fun gastronomic experience in Taipei.

Visited in Aug 2024 for dinner Ended up visiting Longtail a couple of times during my visit to Taipei as it was right next to my hotel. There was no tasting menu when I visited and only an a-la-carte menu. Longtail still had their 1 Michelin star when I visited them. Among the starters I liked the beef skewers and the fish tartare. In the mains, the duck breast dish was quite good. While the dining experience was quite enjoyable, I don’t think it was at par with some of the other Michelin star places I visited in Taipei. The restaurant staff were really good and I was really happy with the quality of service provided by them. Overall, Longtail is a decent restaurant and I will definitely recommend a visit. But I can somewhat understand why it lost its Michelin star status recently.

From the very start, Anthea greeted me with the brightest smile. Her team is very personable and attentive to us. The cocktails especially the bespoke ones were tasty and well balanced by 小治. Drinks that I did not reject. Lol. The chef team was a happy group which is a rare sight in most kitchen and delivering happy belly dishes. Well done. Keep up the good work at Longtail.

Google
Fabulous dinner with the girlfriends. The only hiccup was at the beginning, we had reserved a table not knowing that it was a set menu. The wait staff presented us with the menu but didn’t tell us that we had to sit at the bar to order Ala carte. It took a lot of back and forth before we finally got a seat at the bar, with them telling us that we can sit at the table if we ordered the minimum spend of 4K per person. Just for other potential diners to know this in advance to make an early decision. Notwithstanding this, the drinks and food were great, and we thank the staff for taking nice photos of our group.

Had dinner here and the staff were very professional and service level was just top notch. Food wise the tasting menu was exceptional and they were very accommodating to making changes for items that my party can't consume. Every dish served was just amazing and I'm looking forward to come back again during other seasons to try their tasting menu.

Yelp
TLDR: Our dinner at Longtail was probably the best meal we had while in Taipei. We absolutely housed the food and cleared every plate within the hour, and if I'm ever back in Taipei Longtail will certainly be on the list to revisit. SETTING: the restaurant is very cozy and beautifully decorated with low lighting, a big bar and multiple seating areas. We came for dinner on Christmas Night at 9pm and the room we were in was full (two four tops and two two tops). They were playing Christmas music and it made for a very cozy ambiance. FOOD: we cleared every single dish we ordered. For appetizers we had the tartare and ricotta toast with figs. For our mains we ordered the short rib and crispy pork belly. Each dish was better than the last - though nothing crazy new or creative, they executed perfectly with flavors, texture and presentation. The cocktails were also incredible including the Kra pow and joen jewel. SERVICE: service was impeccable. Our waitress was so sweet and kind, bringing our dessert with a candle for my partners birthday as well as champagne for us both! VERDICT: we had such a great experience at Longtail!! Not only was the food and ambiance perfect, the service was the cherry on top. If you're in the area or in Taipei, I would highly recommend dropping by for a bite.

Yelp
I was really looking forward to trying this one Michelin starred restaurant in Taipei, but it was jus OK for me. While the courses started off well, the progression sort of veered off course, such that by the time the lamb was served, both my dining partner and I decided to skip the course (it was way too rare). The service was gracious and I did enjoy the ambiance. However, I'd recommend against booking the tatami room as it was really uncomfortable (there were nice pillows of the back but a super skimpy, non-cushioned one for sitting). Interesting drinks as well, but the virgin one I got tasted more like a dessert and didn't really go well with the meal.

Yelp
Love the ambiance of the place and delicious food & drinks! We loved everything we ordered, but our favorites were the fig toast & ricotta appetizer and the pork chop main dish. These two stuck out the most to us, but that's not to say that any of the other dishes were not amazing or enjoyed. We'd also absolutely order the drinks we got again; the cucumber fizz was light and refreshing as hoped, and the cranberry Thai tea a fun and unique twist. Plating was beautiful for everything, and since we were celebrating a birthday, they added a cute little candle and wrote happy birthday on the dessert. The only downfall of the meal was the kaya French toast-- the espresso ice cream was great, but the kaya French toast itself was too soggy on the inside for us. Service the entire meal was great. They were very kind and attentive, and even helped us call a cab after we were done with our dinner. Definitely a must-go spot if you're in Taiwan looking for a classy meal.

Yelp
Great service and ambiance. We came here in October 2023 and the tasting menu was fantastic. But the fried Kaya bread dessert is a must order, make room for this.

Yelp
I honestly expected a bit more for a 1 Michelin star establishment. I should have set my expectations lower since I was able to nab same day reservations. Based on recent experiences, usually the higher end restaurants are already booked solid a few weeks in advance. You have the option of the set menu or a la carte. Bear in mind that the earlier reservations at the tables are set menus. The bar is always a la carte. Knowing that, I booked a later meal at the tatami table so we could order a la carte. I wasn't particularly hungry, so my sister and boyfriend ate most of the food. For starters, we ordered the soft shell crab with salty egg yolk, shrimp sliders, char siu bao, and fig toast with ricotta cheese. I also wanted to try the persimmons but was told they were out and the replacement was cherry tomatoes, so I decided against it. We also decided to get the pork chop for the main (surprisingly small portion for the price you pay) and the kaya french toast for dessert (way too soggy! more like bread soaked in liquid- stick to kaya toast in SG). There's an 80NT water charge per person, so drink up. The mocktails are actually very refreshing and innovative. I'd say stick to the starters, and you'll probably be satisfied. The tatami sitting was nice because you're off near the kitchen in a section by yourself. While I liked how private it was, I thought it smelled a bit strange in the area. Not sure what it was, but it took away from my enjoyment. Service was a bit off for a Michelin-recognized restaurant initially. We had to flag down staff in order to get our water refilled. It got better as the night went on. They were kind enough to call us a cab when requested and even tried to order us a car on their personal phones when they thought they weren't able to get ahold of the cab company.

Yelp
To be a 1 Michelin Star restaurant, not only are you a very good restaurant, you must also excel in all aspects, such as in playing, food execution, and service. After eating here, I think Longtail lives up to all expectations and is worthy of their Michelin Star. The service here is really exceptional. Every movement and placement of your silverware and plate is done with such thought and precision. Everything is done to minimize interference with your meal experience. The waiters are super nice and attentive, keeping your glasses full and switching out plates when needed. Fantastic! The food presentation here is awesome! Everything is expertly laid out. You can really see the precision and thought the chef put into his plating. For a tasting menu, every dish flows seamlessly into each other. Each dish complements the next and by the time you reach the end, you are fully satisfied. Dishes such as the grouper are cooked to perfection, with the meat juicy and flakey and the skin nice and crispy. The Australian Beef Tenderloin, a perfect sear on the outside and a perfect medium rare on the inside. You want to experience a Michelin Star restaurant? Look no further. You won't be disappointed coming here :)

Yelp
I came to Longtail with a colleague for a business dinner. Having researched the restaurant and made reservations well in advance, given its popularity, I was excited to have gotten a seat. I had been emailing back and forth with one of the staff, Hailey, for weeks as we kept having to adjust the party size and reservation time. Hailey, you are awesome and I appreciate you! The decor reminds you of vintage library meets modern bar with a dose of speakeasy. It's altogether pretty classic but has unique touches that make it memorable. I started with the Lost in Translation, a rum and umeshu-based drink with a green tea flavor. It was light yet packed a punch at the same time. My colleague ordered the foie gras dumplings, which I sampled and found a literal explosion of flavor inside the dumpling. Admittedly, I'm not the world's biggest foie gras fan, but this was perhaps the best preparation of it that I have seen, and they points for creativity. The fig toast. THE FIG TOAST! Figs are not something I run across with particular frequency, so I was intrigued by this. Oh mylanta. The combination of the figs with the port and ricotta was divine. It was an "eyes rolling the back of your head" good experience with an uncommon flavor match. The quail with rice noodles was nice, although I was hoping for a little bit more herbal flavor from the dish. The salted caramel and cognac ice cream dessert. Oh man, so delightful! If you're reading this, hopefully this is still in season and on the menu for you to enjoy! While the main dish didn't absolutely blow me away, everything else was on point, and the flavor combos plus the inventive drink menu left me with a five-star feeling.

Yelp
I've been looking for an opportunity to come to Longtail for a while and was really excited about coming here for the first time. The restaurant concept and cocktail list were really intriguing. You can either order a la carte or go for a 8 course 1880 or 2880 exploration menu. I opted for the 1880 menu and ordered the penicillin cocktail. My overall experience was really good. Cool atmosphere and vibe. The service was friendly and attentive. Food came out really quickly and I finished my meal in a little over an hour. Most importantly I really enjoyed the food. Food: 4.25 stars Service: 4.5 stars Environment: 4.25 stars Value: 4.25 stars Overall: 4.25 stars Recommendations: Fig toast, shrimp slider, foie gras dumplings My favorite part of the tasting menu was the appetizer/bite courses. I really enjoyed all of them. The ones to me that really stood out were: 1) Fig toast - this was probably my favorite thing of the evening. I really enjoyed the smokiness of the ricotta cheese mixed with the sweetness of the fig. 2) Foie gras dumpling - This was a close second to the toast. This is kind of a play on a 红油抄手 where there is duck and foie gras instead of the pork. The sauce is chili oil based with some real nice textural components from the nuts. I also really enjoyed the amouse bouche, the hamachi, shrimp toast and the cognac salted ice cream dessert. The mains were good but not great. The bites were definitely better. 1) Grouper- The only dish I didn't really enjoy that much was the grouper. I found the parmesan flavor in the stock to be too strong. 2) Beef tenderloin main was much better. I liked the concept of the hotpot stock mixed with the fennel purée. I could have done without the leek. I hope to have an opportunity to come back to Longtail the next time I'm in Taipei.

Yelp
This is a Michelin 1 Star restaurant, and definitely lives up to the rating with it's ambiance, attentive service, food quality and presentation. We got the set menu with cocktail pairing and the food was yummy and presented beautifully. The cocktails were also excellent. You can also order food a la carte, we got the shrimp sliders because the set menu didn't quite fill us up. Shrimp sliders were really tasty. Service was very attentive and friendly but not too intrusive. Highly recommended!

Yelp
*pre-covid* My friend and I were visiting Taipei and this was my first Michelin experience. The food was delicious, creative and aesthetically pleasing as any Michelin rated restaurant should be. Despite being ranked this high, the place felt relaxed and chill and the staff were amazing - made us feel like family. Cannot wait for my return trip to Taipei!

Sarina J.

Yelp
Even before its receipt of one Michelin star, I've wanted to try Longtail. Overall, while the quality of the food was great, it was quite salty and the ambience/service were a bit lacking. Besides the a la carte menu, there are two tasting menus titled the Longtail experience, one for 1880NTD (8 dishes) and the other for 2880NTD (9 dishes). The dishes between the two were different (with the more expensive having higher quality ingredients), but we went for the 1880 tasting menu. We also received an amuse bouche that was not on the menu which was cantaloupe juice with salami (weird combo but oddly worked?). They have an English menu but they introduce each course in Chinese. For a multicourse menu, the timing was way faster than my previous experiences, and while that can be a good thing, I think the waiters got flustered with being unable to switch out dirty plates for new ones in time, and not knowing who should introduce each course. During each course, a different person would tell us the ingredients, which was different and I actually enjoyed, because I appreciated the different insights. Highlights of the night were the foie gras dumplings (they did not skimp!), Australian beef tenderloin (perfect medium rare), and the Kaya toast that we ordered a la carte. Now, the downsides. We had a late dinner reservation on a Friday night, which meant that a lot of people were coming in just for drinks at the bar. It did get quite noisy with drunk people yelling and standing on chairs, which was quite distracting from the pretty calm ambience of the dinner tables which were mostly couples, friends, and foodies. My friend had come here prior to Longtail receiving the Michelin star and said that even with the added hostess, the service felt more rushed and flustered. However, this is a pretty casual Michelin restaurant, and I'm not sure how I feel about it. While I don't like stifling quiet, I don't like rowdiness either. Also, I found lipstick on my water glass and my plate was dirty, which were switched out immediately. While the food was delicious, I expected more. Food 4/5, service 3/5

Yelp
I wrote a review previously before Longtail received it's Michelin Star, so here's my updated review. When I came back here, it was clear to see that this place was no longe just a "bar" and has become more of a restaurant. I sat at the bar and was greeted with Yangyang (really great bartender). The cocktail menu is COMPLETELY different from the previous menu, but they were able to accommodate the cocktail that I was interested in. I also ordered the Chef's tasting menu: 1. I enjoyed the first appetizer, it was light and creamy and a great intro the rest of the meal 2. The sashimi was probably my favorite of them all, I love the lycee. It was sweet and not fishy at all 3. The third dish had bread with a smokey flavor, it was really interesting. The fig and cheese was not overpowering and compliments the bread really well 4. The foie gras had strong flavors, it tastes rich 5. The next dish was nice and creamy, also lots of flavor 6. The fish was really good! Crispy, subtle, and had great presentation - it looks like a fish in a lake with small trees! Don't forget to drink the soup, it was zesty and the best part of the dish (aside from the crispy skin). It was parmesan broth 7. The steak was very tender and cooked to perfection (medium rare). The spicy sauce is what made it unique 8. The dessert had an overpowering caramel taste so I made sure to only add a little bit Overall, really satisfied with the meal. I personally would get my drink from yangyang because she makes them just the way I like it :)

Yelp
Congrats on the one Michelin star Longtail! Loved the tropical vibes going on throughout the restaurant with palm tree inspired decor and cute quotes in the bathrooms. The shrimp sliders are a MUST GET. Crispy and hot with perfectly toasted buns and a tangy sriracha mayonnaise. I would pass on the soft shell crab next time. Tasted like any other soft shell crab you could get elsewhere so it felt uninspired and uninteresting. As for the mains, my friend and I shared the beef short rib and tilefish. The beef short rib was AMAZING. The meat was soft, tender and overall just beautifully cooked. I wasn't a fan of the vegetables they used on the side, but I'll eat any vegetable put in front of me. The tilefish wasn't as good as the short rib, but still a decent dish. If I were to come back again, I'd try the fried chicken which was recommended by the server. Our table also got multiple rounds of drinks with my favourite cocktail being the Sloe Gin Fizz. If you like a good gin-based drink, this is it! I also tried the Agua de Formosa but I didn't love it because of the overwhelming smoky plum flavour. I have to say, perhaps my expectations were raised because of their Michelin award, but the service wasn't up to my standards. It was hard to get the attention of the servers and my friend had to go up to the bar to order our drinks. We felt like it was a constant struggle to get anyone's attention. Also, I was a little annoyed they kept rushing us with our dining time limit. I totally understand the 2-hour limit if the restaurant is busy, but all 3 tables near us had emptied out and there were plenty of open tables for any guests that should come in. We were still ordering rounds of drinks too so I'm not sure why the server reminded us 3 times that we could only dine until 9PM (we also actually did leave by 9PM so it did tarnish my overall impression of the restaurant slightly!)

Yelp
WOW! Hello Longtail!!! Welcome to taipei. Glad you are here. It has been awhile since I thought " wow, this dinner is really good and totally worth the $$$". So guys, if you are visiting longtail for the first time, I highly recommend trying the chef's tasting menu for 1680nt. Worth it. It comes with 3 starters, 2 mains and 2 desserts. And i loved it. Especially well done on the foie gra ravioli, the shrimp burger, and the kaya french toast desserts. The resto opens all the way til 3am too which is amazing. I cannot wait to return to try all the other dishes. GO! enjoy.

Yelp
Service is amazing!! Bartenders are super nice and knowledgeable. Got a chance to meet the owner and chef. Simply a pleasure. Great guy and humble. Was there for drinks, but had a chance to sample the food. All of it was really really good.

Yelp
Came here for a drink and dessert and was not disappointed. The drinks and food all have the intricate details of Chef Kin Ming Lam. The deco is nice and suits a special occasion.

Yelp
Pictures doesn't do any justice to any of the dishes Longtail served!!! Presentation is great but it doesn't end there. Carefully composed with various ingredients, added layers of flavor and surprises. The texture, the temperature, the mixture , I feel the creativity and appreciate the dedication chef put into my dinner. I ordered the 1880 set menu, I won't describe every dish as you can see pictures and other posting. But I have to mention the desserts. Dinner was excellent , it doesn't stop there, it was followed by the amazing desserts. I am a chocolate person but was totally filled with joy and content with the two non chocolate I got. My dinner tonight was worth beyond the price longtail charged. This is an easy 150-250 US dollar meal at New York or Beverly Hills. What a great experience! I will come often!!! Keep up the exceptional work! You definitely know what you creating. You deserve your shining STAR!!!

Yelp
this place is top notch. really enjoyed the food and it's the perfect place to grab a drink and some complementaries :)
