40 Affordable Places to Eat in NYC

"This Latin Caribbean diner is home to the most gorgeous steam table you’ve ever seen right next door to an expansive dining room. The menu offers classic breakfasts of green plantains, eggs, and longaniza, plus lumberjack pancakes and three-egg omelets, then moves on to lunches and dinners of well-seasoned rotisserie chicken, pork chops, kingfish or salmon, mofongo in several variations, meal-size soups like sancocho and mondongo, and pernil so good it might make you weep." - Robert Sietsema

Eater Critic Robert Sietsema’s 15 Best Dishes of 2021 - Eater NY

"A perfect example is Los Primos, a long running but recently renamed corner Dominican cafe. One may simply gaze rapturously through the corner window at the pristine steam table, where the tub of roast pork is seductively displayed. I don’t really need to describe the hearty meat, its burnished skin, or the lush yellow rice and red beans underneath because one glance at the photo should reveal its excellence." - Robert Sietsema

The Service is Terrible. I called in for a pick up order 20 min prior to walking in my food was Not ready they told me I had to wait for my beans and gave my order to another customer. Another time I waited over 30 minutes just for my tostones to be made while others were served ahead of me this is now more than twice. Why is there more than 4-5 people behind the counter and you can’t put food inside of a tupperware in time for your customers? Not only that but have the audacity to moan and make faces at customers when I ordered early morning ?

One of the young lady was very rude because I didn’t tip her enough for just buying a empanadilla for my son. The empanadilla was cold and she try to corrected me because in Puerto Rico we call it empanadilla. So when I gave her the 3$ she throw the 50cents in the tip yard. Very rude and nasty. Won’t go again lost a customer.

This place sucks. They charged me $11.44 for a medium plate of half filled rice, a small order of plantains, and a small size of beans and 1 seltzer water. I paid electronically so I was given the run around as far as waiting for a refund. When I mentioned that I didn't review my plantains that I paid for, I was then told to wait. After a brief period of waiting I was then told tonlay an extra $2 so that I can get my plantains because of some nonsense/lack of logic from service staff, despite me producing my receipt of what I paid for. To hell with this restaurant. I am filing a dispute with my financial institution to recoup my losses once it posts to my bank account. This restaurant is a cesspool of inadequate/poor performance.

Worst service ever. They have 4 employees taking care of one single person while five other people are waiting to place their order.

Went there for a quick bite. In a small container, rice, little, beef, and 2 small piece of pork. $18. I would normally pay not more than $10-12, the thing they gave me is not worth more than $8z be careful when you order, ask price before u buy. And of course, they charge you less if you know Spanish.

Yelp
It's been a while since I've eaten from this restaurant. The place was clean and the food fresh. My server (Sicely) gave me the menu and I chose one of their lunch specials (rice with pigeon peas and stewed goat. Everything was very flavorful. They have a wide selection of food items. Sicely came to my table to make sure that everything is to my liking. Will recommend this establishment to family and friends.
