Southern seafood boils, cocktails, & beer in nautical backyard setting

"Lowcountry is a casual seafood boil restaurant, and the South Loop location feels like a backyard party, complete with picnic tables, fake trees, astroturf, and a great playlist of early ‘00s hits. It’s a counter-service spot, but you can sit in a separate section if you want a server (and easier access to the bar). Either way, choose from a variety of shellfish and sauces, and a short while later you’ll get a bag of buttery, garlicky seafood delivered to you. It’s messy—but watching the people at neighboring tables fighting with a crab shell makes it worthwhile." - veda kilaru, adrian kane, john ringor
"Put on a bib and get ready for a Southern boil at Lowcountry. Diners order shrimp, snow crab, mussels, king crab, or lobster tails by the pound, which are served in a bag with different sauces and add-ons like corn and sausage. It’s a communal experience that includes eating directly off the table. To finish, there are beignets and deep-fried Oreos. There are also locations in Lakeview and Chinatown." - Sam Nelson
"Seafood boils and a machine for Japanese highballs are featured at Lowcountry. A Lakeview location opened in 2015 (there’s also a Chinatown location), and this comfy space takes the same successful formula." - Ashok Selvam

"Don’t get too dressed up to head to a date at Lowcountry, where diners can break the ice while wearing bibs and messily pulling apart crab legs, crawfish, and shrimp covered in Cajun or garlic sauce and served in a bag with add-ons like sausage and potatoes. Be sure to order some garlic noodles to further soak up the flavor and finish on a sweet note with beignets." - Samantha Nelson
