NYC New Restaurant Openings, August 2025 | Eater NY

"The former Heaven Can Wait reemerges as a soulful Southern honky-tonk, a reimagined music venue partnership between Grammy-winning singer-songwriter Lucinda Williams, Laura McCarthy, and Kelley Swindall, with live country music Fridays, live-band karaoke Saturdays, and a jukebox packed with country classics." - Nadia Chaudhury

Lucinda’s pulls off full juke joint cosplay in the East Village - Review - New York - The Infatuation

"With its functioning jukebox, photos of Johnny Cash, Kris Kristofferson, and other country stars, Lucinda’s in the East Village joins a small but growing group of bars that cosplay country in NYC. This honky tonk pulls it off (it’s also owned by Lucinda Williams), with live music at least five nights a week, beers that start at a reasonable $6 per bottle, and a disproportionately large number of cowboy boots and blue jeans. Pull on a pair of each and head over for some Nashville-inspired energy and a casual shot of whiskey. video credit: Will Hartman" - Will Hartman

NYC’s New Restaurant Openings - New York - The Infatuation

"The East Village's newest honky tonk and live music venue comes courtesy of country star Lucinda Williams. It's the second celebrity owned business to open on that stretch of the East Village recently—Bradley Cooper’s excellent Danny & Coop’s is a block south. The singer has played sets in their first few days open, with lots of pedal steel-fueled music and frigid Miller High Life’s to look forward to." - will hartman, willa moore, molly fitzpatrick, sonal shah, bryan kim

Titan Foods Reopens in Astoria, Once the Largest Greek American Supermarket | Eater NY

"Transformed from the venue formerly called Heaven Can Wait, in a space that once hosted Coney Island Baby, Lola, and Brownies, this bar is now under the co‑ownership of Grammy‑winning singer‑songwriter Lucinda Williams alongside Laura McCarthy and Kelley Swindall and describes itself as a soulful Southern honky tonk. Programming includes live country music Fridays, live‑band karaoke Saturdays, and a jukebox packed with country classics, all set in an appropriately retro room of wood‑paneling, old signs, and checkerboard‑tile linoleum floors." - Melissa McCart

Lucinda Williams Opens Country Bar Lucinda’s in NYC

"A newly opened bar at 169 Ave. A near E. 11th St. co-owned by singer Lucinda Williams, Laura McCarthy, and Kelley Swindall, launched with an intimate ~150-person private show in which Williams performed newer songs like “Lowlife,” the rollicking “Let’s Get the Band Back Together,” and closed with “Joy” from Car Wheels on a Gravel Road. The space is curated to feel like a Southern-flavored, local dive—Williams helped select southern folk art and a playlist heavy on Delta blues—and is decorated with framed rock-and-roll photography (Danny Clinch), outsider art (Mike Worthington), work by Jon Langford, and memorabilia such as a “Jimmy Carter for President” poster, a Sister Rosetta Tharpe varsity jacket, and prominent Muddy Waters tributes. The upfront jukebox leans country and Americana (Tim McGraw, Drive-by Truckers, the Carter Family, Ray Charles, even a “Toby Keith Mix”), drinks on the night included High Lifes and a tequila–Cherry Heering mix, and regular programming will feature live-band country karaoke on Fridays, songwriter open mics on Sundays, and special events like a queer country party (East Village Cxntry Club). The owners wanted a laid-back spot where the music is cool but not too loud, with local flavor and plenty of live music." - Chris Crowley

Google
Lucinda’s is such a hidden gem in the East Village! The antique decor gives it so much charm — every corner feels like it has a story. They often have great live music that perfectly complements the cozy, laid-back vibe. It’s the kind of place where you can just sit back with a drink, enjoy the music, and lose track of time. The perfect spot to chill on a Sunday afternoon.

Google
Came here on Saturday afternoon and LOVED it. It was lively when I first arrived but by 4pm it was really hopping. Very friendly, cool staff and chill clientele. This place is relatively new but has a very authentic vibe. There is NO food but they do make good cocktails.

Google
My friend and I were visiting from the Philadelphia area and were interested in Thursday 2 stepping night. The bar has a fun Rock a Billy atmosphere but I was the only in cowboy boots and the space is super tight and packed like sardines! There wasn’t much 2 stepping going on, we had one drink and SQUEEZED out. Everyone was super nice but it was more cosplay Rockabilly, I expected a real country spot and larger place to be able to dance

Went to Country-oke hosted by Rachel last night. Was a life changing experience. Amazing host, immaculate vibes. Better than any other karaoke I’ve ever been to. Best night of our lives.

Google
Decent bar, bad karaoke bar. Not a first come first serve queue. They called songs out of order based on what the band wanted to play and then even if the person had left, they’d bring random people on stage to sing that song. Despite there being a list of people left waiting. Sort of BS, left a bad taste. Not a bad bar, band was great, just don’t go in expecting to sing or a fair system.

Google
Walked past and heard the music. Asked for an American beer and they just ran out so I ended up with a Stella. Being from England I can get that any day. The beer was fine but not the best quality I have had from a Stella (little flat and un lively). Staff were good and so was the music.

Google
This is an East Village bar, but not for long-time East Villagers. Perhaps tourists or newcomers will enjoy paying 16 bucks plus tip for a drink. I don't like to write negative reviews; I know folks try and that many new bartenders are sharpening their skills. But still: top-shelf G and T should not be made with tonic from the "gun." Lime is a must; so is ice. I'm not a bartender, but I do enjoy a drink after work, and coming from a family of restaurant workers, I respect the staff. I hope Lucinda's becomes a neighborhood bar; there's still time. Until then, there're lots of long time neighborhood joints...and they've also got music. This note is frank and intended as kind feedback. The East Village is an open, welcoming, but discerning neighborhood.

Google
Lucinda's is the best bar in Manhattan - my friends and I go often. Great music, great drinks and great people. Liam is a great bartender and always makes our experience better.

Yelp
Live music, drinks, quick service, Dolly Parton themed bathroom. The band on this Thursday night was super fun. Primarily country covers. My friend ordered their "hurricane" drink which was apparently 80% alcohol. The bartender vehemently warned him that she could only serve him one of these. It was a small cup, this ain't Louisiana. There was a good crowd here. It was a full room but not awfully crowded. Younger people, it seemed like a bunch of NYC transplants in their 20s. Several beers on draft. They serve most of their drinks in red plastic cups. As someone from Alabama, it does vaguely seem like cosplaying southern culture.

Yelp
"Hipster Honky Tonk" Lucinda Williams and the East Village? What's is going on? This really had to happen sooner than later. A real honky tonk with live music, country music with down and dirty dive bar vibes in this hood. It's been around for less than a minute, but already attracting a crowd. This place is gonna be hot. What's to cheer - friendly bartenders - County and Western decor - live music! - good drink prices What's to jeer - It's a little loud. But deal with it

Yelp
I came here on a Friday night for live band country karaoke. There weren't that many people when sign ups started at 8, but by 8:40 or so, it was busy! The MC, bartenders, and band were all great. I would definitely come back again for karaoke or to see live bluegrass on other nights of the week.

Yelp
Not bad. Good live country music and bar tenders are quick. Obviously, keep your belongings close to you.

Yelp
Firstly I would like to say that every bartender I've ever had here has been kind and efficient and great at their jobs. As such, I came in after my shift at Bellevue on marathon day; apparently I walked in to a private party and I had no idea because everyone was being so nice and welcoming and great, which was a relief because it was a hard day at the hospital. I had taken two sips of my vodka soda and an older woman with dyed dark hair came storming out and asked me if I was with the private party; obviously I said no because I had no idea there was a private party going on! Instead of explaining and asking me to move she shouted literally in my face "why was this person served?! She's not with the party" and the bartenders looked mortified. They were still professional and kind but this woman literally seemed crazed and off her rocker. I had come to this bar when they first opened and met who I thought was the owner (a younger woman with different hair); she was incredibly friendly but also professional and knew her stuff. This woman on the other hand was legitimately unhinged; I felt so uncomfortable I drank my vodka soda and left on the verge of tears lol. Treating a paying customer like garbage due to an honest mistake says way more about that manager than it does about me, and I wish her growth and peace in her twilight years.

Yelp
Only saw music -room filled with youthful exuberance, dancing , good sound system, didn't know this kind of place existed in NYC !

Lily N.

Yelp
BEWARE OF PICKPOCKETERS !!!! Had a great night here until realizing two of my friends had multiple cards stolen right out of their zipped purses this past Saturday night. One lost over $1,000. There is clearly a ring of skilled thieves operating here, and I hope management takes it seriously. When they spoke to the police, they said there have already been multiple similar complaints. Be extremely cautious of this place!

Dusty N.

Yelp
All drinks served in red plastic cups! Shame! I love Lu but this place is too country for me.

Tom S.

Yelp
I really wanted to like this new country music bar. However, beer prices are just absurd! In fact, when I purchased a $8 Bud draft, the bartender decided to automatically keep $1 for himself before giving me change. You don't just take a tip for yourself before giving change! Unless this bar decides to offer a significant price reduced happy hour, I will not return. I just cannot justify paying $8 for a domestic beer, when there are so many other reasonably priced dives. Even Doc Holidays down the street is more reasonably priced.

Yelp
Went to Lucinda's last night. Everyone had a great time. The music was excellent, friendly staff and a good location. A nice addition to the East Village.

Yelp
Amazing job creating the feel of a Texas roadhouse that's been around forever in a new club where people actually stay quiet and listen to the music. I dropped by last night and didn't want to leave. I'll definitely return the next time I'm in NYC.

Yelp
I went to this bar last night with Audrey who also left a comment below. We showed up with a big birthday party and we were so excited to try out this new bar in our neighborhood. They told us it was a $10 cover and said "you're lucky we aren't charging 20." And meanwhile was letting other people in no cover. I was super disappointed and tried to reason with her and she insisted on the cover. Weird that the owner was being like this... we could have been longtime customers. Rip

Audrey O.

Yelp
The staff was extremely rude. The woman at the front of the door looked at our party and decided she could get money so she tried to charge us each $10 cover even though she was also letting in a bunch of other people not in our party for free and it was only 9:30 pm. We went to Waiting on a Friend down the block instead, highly recommend that place. Very very off putting when a brand new bar is hostile towards customers.
