On the Grid : Lucky Penny

"Made to order wood-fired pizza from a penny covered building in the Funk Zone. Take your 'za to go, or enjoy it at one of their outdoor back patio tables. Open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, they’ve got you covered all day long for fast, fresh, and tasty food. I recommend the Lucky Penny Classic - made with the very flavorful san marzano marinara, salami, mozzarella, fresh oregano, and chili flakes." - Amanda Proudfit

Where To Eat Outside In Santa Barbara

"You’re staring at the glorious structure that is The Lark, and suddenly you notice something in the corner of the parking lot that resembles an upscale construction trailer. Welcome to Lucky Penny, The Lark’s casual, all-day sibling that’s a fantastic lunch option when you’re too wine-drunk to walk anywhere else. Most people sitting outside at this order-at-the-counter spot are eating pizza, but don’t ignore the sandwiches either - they’re just as good." - brant cox

"The offerings here are blessedly simple: Excellent, wood-fired pizza (interesting flavor combinations, plus all the classics), a smattering of meatball-based sandwiches, plus a handful of well-conceived salads (shaved kale, based arugula). In short, this is exactly the sort of food you want to plow into with a big group of friends, or after an overly raucous night out. They have kid-friendly option as well, and offer takeout. "

We stopped by Lucky Penny in Santa Barbara and I have to say—this place absolutely lived up to the hype! I ordered the Salty Surfer pizza with a few customizations: I swapped the peppers for mushrooms and kept the pineapple and prosciutto combo. The vodka-based sauce tied it all together beautifully. The crust was phenomenal—crispy, chewy, and packed with flavor. Truly one of the best pizzas I’ve had in a long time! The frozen margarita was perfect for the warm weather—refreshing, balanced, and hit the spot. We also tried the Caesar salad, which wasn’t quite to our taste—the dressing had a very bold, strong flavor that didn’t quite work for us. We also ordered the pepperoni pizza, which was decent, but the Salty Surfer definitely stole the show. The only downside was the seating—we were with a group including kids, and there just wasn’t enough shade, which made it a bit uncomfortable in the heat. Overall, though, the food—especially the Salty Surfer pizza—and the atmosphere made for a great experience. I’d definitely return (hopefully with a bit more shade next time)!

Cute spot in Funk zone. Plenty of tables and greenery; really a family friendly envirnment. Staff is friendly and we can change up the pizza order to exactly what we want. We got the hot girl pizza and added chicken. Definitely recommend. My daughter loved having some leftovers. We will be going back.

I wanted to like the pizza more because it looks really good. But the truth is my east coast pepperoni pizza was greasy and blackened. I understand it's wood fired pie and bits of char are to be expected. But the overwhelming flavor was blackened char. The bottom of the pizza was mostly black. The sauce is super plain, I prefer pizza sauce with herbs and basil. The crust is good. The beer was outrageously priced at $11 for the IPA on draft and it, disappointingly, comes in a plastic cup. You order at the window, they give you a number, then bring you your food. The courtyard is beautiful with its lovely flowers and atmosphere. The Funk District is much less funky than I expected. I expected more art and more of a vibe. There's a couple murals and some flyers on telephone poles. I guess that qualifies as Funk in such a ritzy town

One of our favorite pizza spots in Santa Barbara. After living there a few years ago, it's so nice to go back and enjoy it again. Ordered 2 pizzas (east coast pepperoni and hot girl pizza) and they were both amazing! Also ordered 2 Italian chopped salads which were so fresh. We had a group of 4, so the 2 pizzas and 2 salads were perfect for us. Tons of outdoor seating which was a great environment and relaxing. Great selection of beer and drinks! Staff was super helpful and really nice! :) Highly recommend bringing friends to Lucky Penny in the funk zone!

Google
My wife was looking for a gluten-free pizza place and found it on Google. We didn’t realize that we were in an area in Santa Barbara called The Funk Zone, which was a very neat area that was very lively and fun to experience. This place has a walk up window where you order and all seating is outside. The food was very delicious, and it was just a nice atmosphere overall.

Google
They pretty much burned our pizza. We came from a long travel, picked up a pepperoni and a californian pizza, pepperoni was burned beyond enjoyment, ee had to go back for another 15 min drive but they did replace it thankfully. Wish they would have done it right in the 1st place.

Google
Penny’s Pizza in Santa Barbara delivered an awesome experience with their fresh, vibrant flavors and perfectly charred crusts. We ordered the classic Margherita pizza and a garlic cheese bread, and both were fantastic — the Margherita had a light, tangy tomato sauce, creamy cheese, sweet cherry tomatoes, and fresh basil that tied everything together beautifully, while the garlic cheese bread was rich, fluffy, and packed with flavor, paired with a delicious marinara dipping sauce. The outdoor setup felt casual and fun, making it a great spot to relax and enjoy seriously good pizza.

Google
Og pizza was good. The kids got a pepperoni with olives. Way to greasy. We Did not like at all . Meatballs was good. Bad part is that they have an open merchandiser for their drinks. Bad idea for that establishment. The drinks are not cold. They need a closed fridge to keep them cool. Their ovens warm up that tiny place. So yes our beer was warm.

Yelp
Definitely worth the line! The Salty Surfer pizza was to die for! You can tell the pizza is made with love, as well as includes all the freshest ingredients. The staff was great. Beware of less seating options during busy days and weekends. Super nice patio area to sit at and enjoy the food!

Yelp
Lucky Penny is such a charming spot with its beautiful outdoor space filled with plants and flowers. We shared a table with some other guests, which added to the friendly and communal vibe. You order at the counter, and everything feels laid-back and inviting. The penny wall inside is such a cool feature--definitely worth checking out! I tried the California pizza, and it was absolutely delicious. The fresh ingredients, like purple basil, paired perfectly with the pesto--it was simply amazing. The prices are fair for the location, and the service was both fast and friendly. My only wish is that they offered more creative vegetarian pizza options beyond cheese pizzas, as combos with fresh ingredients like the California would be a great addition. Overall, it's definitely worth a visit!

Yelp
We just arrived in Santa Barbara and were hungry, so we stumbled upon The Lucky Penny. We thought, "Boy, are we lucky!" As Bay Area natives, we weren't too shocked by the prices--$20-25 for a 12-inch pizza, $4 to add chicken, and $2 for ranch on the side. Our total came to $115 for one pizza, one salad, garlic cheese bread, and meatballs. Not bad, right? Especially if the food is good. Here's the breakdown: * Salad: AWESOME. Fresh and flavorful. * Pizza: Pretty good, though there was too much pesto for my taste (a personal preference, not a quality issue). * Garlic bread: Tasty but had uneven chunks of garlic. * Ranch: Delicious, but worth $2? Maybe 50 cents to $1 would be fair. Since we were new to town and still hungry, we decided to go back and try their pan cookie for dessert. This is where the experience took a nosedive. We waited about 20 minutes for the cookie when suddenly, the music cut off at 8:20 PM. I joked to my husband, "Oh no, did they close?" He googled it and realized they were supposed to close in 10 minutes. I went to the window with our order number, but no one was there except the cooks. Eventually, the waitress came to the window, held up her finger (without opening it), and didn't apologize for the delay. She simply said, "It'll be a minute." When we finally got the cookie, it was burnt to a crisp. No apology, no acknowledgment of the mistake--nothing. Considering the 18% minimum tip and the fact that we spent $150 total, some basic customer service would have been nice. The food overall was good, but the service left a lot to be desired. If you're looking for great food, I'm sure there are other options in Santa Barbara with better service and more reasonable prices.

Yelp
Great pizza in a nice outdoor space. The Californian pizza was a delicious vegetarian option and it's good to have a fork for serving up these foldable slices of wood-fired pizza. The pesto is not overpowering and the ricotta and artichoke make a great combo. Pair that with a salad and that was the right amount of food for the two of us for lunch. The chicory caesar was tasty, not overly dressed but mixed well so that each bite was evenly coated. Admire the walls of pennies and check out the mural in the dining space off to the side. Don't be discouraged by their beer listing and ask the cashier what beers they have on draft. Table service was convenient and it wasn't difficult to find a table on the day we dined.

Yelp
Second time eating here and it's been a good experience. This time we came with kids. Ordered italian salad (dressing on the side), shishito peppers, kids cheese pizza, salty surfer pizza (GF), frozen margarita and froze. There is seating in the front and also seating in the back. The back has more seating w shade and it's closer to the bathroom. The wood fired pizza is incredible! Ordered the kids cheese pizza and the salty surfer - both yum! The cheese pizza was so good - pizza crust was perfect and sauce was delicious. Salty surfer had these large pieces of pineapple, yummy prosciutto and the gluten free crust held up well. Froze was delicious and hubby really enjoyed the frozen margaritas lined w tajin. Central to a lot of other restaurants and places for drinking which is nice. Would eat here again!

Yelp
Flew into SB for a wine country excursion based out of Los Alamos. While sucking up the time change and waiting for our VRBO we stumbles across Lucky Penny. Beautiful outdoor seating with a focal penny wall overlaying brick.Metal tables and chairs rest on a rock base. We grabbed a six top. A walk up window to the kitchen connect you with the cashier. We orders a selection of pizzas and Italian chopped salads. We enjoyed delicious meatballs, roasted peppers and warm sourdough bread. Wine by the glass was enjoyed by all. The pizzas has hard crispy crusts with delicious sauce and toppings. The clean plate club was entered by all Very highly recommended Slainte

Yelp
My friends know how much my husband loves pizza, so when they heard we'd be in Santa Barbara for weekend, I was told we *had to* stop by Lucky Penny. Best pizza around, they said. Lots of topping options, they said. Even you (meaning me, the non-pizza lover) will find something to eat there, they said. They were right on two of the three counts, at least. Haha, I kid. They were right: he loved the pizza; the menu was creative and varied and I was able to find a non-pizza item to order. We'd actually decided what we wanted to order while we were at Fess Parker around the corner, waiting for our flights to be filled. So, when we got to Lucky Penny, it was easy to place our order before heading to one of the open tables in their courtyard. The order: one East Coast Pepperoni ($19), one order of the Spicy Pork Meatballs ($18) and one order of the Confit Garlic Cheesy Bread ($16). And because it's illegal to eat without wine in Santa Barbara, he got us each a pour of their red. Side note, not sure why but this pizza place has more items in their drink section than they do on their woodfired pizza section. At any rate, as we were waiting for our doughy concoctions, the sky opened up and started to rain. Everyone in the patio area skedaddled for cover, with us scampering over to the first abandoned yet covered table we could find. The wind picked up, the rain flew sideways, the heaters stayed off. It made for an interesting dining experience, but luckily the wind died down after several minutes. My husband really enjoyed the pizza, though the crust was a bit too doughy for his liking. The pepperoni was spicy and oily, the cheese salty and melty. It was altogether filling. The meatballs were decent, and the garlic bread had a soft-yet-crunchy thing going on that made it tasty and also tired out our jaws from all the chewing. This was always a stop we were going to make specifically to satisfy my husband's palate, but I appreciate the bready-ness of the crusts and the saltiness of the cheeses on the creations. I know he'd want to go back, but I'd be okay skipping it in the future.

Yelp
Pizza Carbonara!! 6.57/10- I've never heard of or seen another pizza establishment offer pizza carbonara which is so interesting! I was too intrigued and had to try. Incredibly flavorful however there was too much crust. I honestly felt as if I ate more crust than the actual "filling" of the pizza. The center piece though was incredible. I loved how the yolk was runny. They even put pine nuts and peas on top of the pizza which is not normal- but it was so delicious and I loved the flavor combination. The center piece was so good honestly if the entire pizza had the same aspects of the center piece, I'd rate this an 8.93/10. The parts of the pizza that actually had toppings were superb and I liked how all the unique flavors really went well together. Would definitely go back if their pizza wasn't mostly crust. Really cute patio area to sit! Back from my hiatus but I have too many reviews to post so bear with me Instagram: @hungrytamale

Yelp
Lucky Penny has a variety of pizzas available for order. Between these, my friends and I ordered the OG and added anchovies. We also ordered a Confit Garlic Cheesy Bread. Seating is outdoors on a grassy area, and there is quite a bit of sun. The tables were clean, and the atmosphere was quite calm on a Sunday afternoon. The OG Pizza was delicious and tasty with fresh ingredients. The anchovies were unique, though I didn't enjoy they too much. The garlic cheesy bread was also tasty, though there wasn't as much garlic taste in the garlic bread. The pizza had quite a bit of dough on the crust, though not so much in the interior, making the pizza quite flimsy and unable to hold the weight the ingredients. The garlic bread was quite doughy and fluffy, though the interior felt fairly plain. While both were edible, the food felt fairly mid.

Yelp
My favorite pizza spot in the world!!! I've had a lot of pizza but they do BOP style pizza like no other. Patio seating always and if you don't know, they will literally deliver pizza to all the nearby wineries. So, a day of wine tasting in the funk zone will be elevated by the deliciousness that is Lucky Penny. They also do a mean Froze. Gluten free and veggies options!

Yelp
Solid little joint for unique wood-fired pizza. My mom and I split a butternut squash and spicy coppa pizza. The garlic truffle cream sauce was a delight, and the hazelnut added enough crunch to keep things interesting against the soft sweetness of the butternut squash. The freshly shaved Parmesan was a really nice shakeup from the shaker cheese I'm used to. We both walked away full with no leftovers. It was nice to sit in the sun and enjoy the fenced in patio. Pretty much all of the seating is outdoors, and you need to go to the neighboring building for restrooms. Counter service, so staff will bring you your food and then leave you to do your thing.
google avatar

Craig W.

Yelp
This pizza joint is extremely attractive. The seating area is more spacious than you might first think. We ordered the Salty Surfer which is basically an upscale Hawaiian pizza. The dough and ingredients were both incredibly fresh. I'm not anti-pineapple on pizza but it's not my absolute preferred ingredients. Regardless, for a quasi-Hawaiian pizza, it was pretty darn good. I'd definitely return to try some of their other pizzas.
google avatar

Minelie A.

Yelp
The pizza was fantastic. We loved being able to choose our own toppings and create our own pizzas. The customer service was excellent, and the atmosphere was cozy. They were quick to deliver our pizza to the table.
google avatar

Angela C.

Yelp
This place says wood fired pizza, but ours was more like "wood burned pizza". We ordered the Californian, and what we got was a pizza that looked like it got too much California sun and no sunblock. It was completely charred. When the server put it on our table, I asked, is it supposed to be this burnt? But he knew this was a bad pizza so he ignored me and quickly walked away. I wasn't happy that the kitchen thinks it's ok to serve their customers a pizza like that. I looked around me and saw the other pizzas that were being brought out and they looked nice. I would've returned it for a new one, but my friend and I were hungry and didn't want to wait any longer, so we just picked off all the burnt parts and ate what we could. The taste was decent but obviously the crust tasted burnt, so I didn't care for it that much. The outdoor patio is nice, they also have seating on the sidewalk area. They have a little trailer in the corner that sells frozen alcohol, but it wasn't open when we were there.
google avatar

Courtney F.

Yelp
Great little side spot to grab a really fresh pizza. We got the Margherita pizza and the basil was in gorgeous shades of green and purple. It's all outside but there are flowers everywhere and I would totally come back
google avatar

Yelp
What a cool little spot in The Funk Zone. Out with some girlfriends for a fall get away in Santa Barbara, for wine tasting and Halloween shenanigan's. I am the gluten free girl who often times out of luck. Fortunately, they have a really tasty gluten free pizza, I got the Pepperoni, but they have a few more options. We were out during the day and they have a nice lunch special that is a personal size pizza and mixed green salad. The vibe was so great. Very relaxing out door space and loved how friendly the staff was.

Yelp
Lucky Penny in Santa Barbara is the perfect spot for a quick and satisfying bite, especially if you're craving fresh pizza. The casual yet inviting atmosphere makes it an ideal choice for those looking to grab a delicious meal. One of my favorite features of Lucky Penny is its outdoor seating area. The charming patio provides a laid-back setting where you can enjoy your meal while soaking in the Santa Barbara sunshine. It's a great option for a casual lunch or dinner with friends or family. The star of the show at Lucky Penny is undoubtedly their pizza. The crust is just right--crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside. Topped with fresh and high-quality ingredients, each slice is a flavorful delight. The menu offers a variety of options to suit different tastes, making it easy to find something that everyone will enjoy. The service at Lucky Penny is efficient, making it an excellent choice for those on a tight schedule or simply looking for a quick and tasty meal. The staff is friendly and welcoming, adding to the overall positive experience.

Yelp
Lucky Penny is located in the Funk zone .. it is super close to the hotel we stay at (The waterman) We found it on our 1st visit but had already eaten that time. This time we made a point of stopping in. I ordered online before we left the hotel. When i arrived i ordered a lemon ice frose type thing...holy hot damn ...it was AMAZING! Like a lemony dole whip type of beverage ...but adulted up with some alcohol! Pizza came out and we decided to stay and eat at the outdoor picnic tables. the atomosphere was super cool... the pizza was phenomenal! we ordered the OG on this visit. my friend showed up and ordered shishito peppers and they were very good also. we returned 2 days later...this time we had the margherita pizza and the mexican corn style pizza.. all i can say is WOW ...the crust is is perfect. the flavors are fresh and delish. if i was in SB i would head over and order another pizza right now!

Yelp
This is undoubtedly the best place for vegan pizza in SB (I'm sure their non-vegan pizza is great too). All of the ingredients are are very high-quality, staff is very friendly and there is lots of outdoor seating, so it's a great spot to have a private conversation or take the kiddos. . . or have a private conversation with your kiddos. . . about vegan pizza. . . . .. mmmmm

Yelp
I ordered the OG pizza and the cheese bread appetizer. The OG came with sausage and arugula as the most noticeable toppings. I added hot honey and a side of ranch. The cheese bread came with a side of marinara sauce. Seating is outdoors but there isn't a lot of covered seating for when it's hot. The pizza was very saucy and all the toppings would fall off. I ate with a fork. The hot honey was a good addition. I like the sausage but there was a lot more arugula relatively. I liked the cheese bread the most but there was a quarter without any cheese. Overall the flavors were interesting and unique.

Yelp
I didn't think of reviewing this place at first since I didn't even have any food here, but I had a great experience worth mentioning. I was wandering through the funk zone on a hot day looking for a spot to stop with my dog and have a drink. Lots of places to get a drink and lots of dog friendly patios, but nothing to make one stand out from another. Plus all the concrete outdoor spaces made me feel hotter just looking at them. Then I spotted the Lucky Penny, and it just looked so inviting by contrast. They had some fake turf on the ground, inviting picnic tables, and real trees to provide shade. The penny bedecked exterior made it stand out too. And you order at the outdoor window, so no need to worry about leaving my dog alone. I just got a frose, but it was cold and refreshing and absolutely hit the spot. Hanging out there was just as nice as it looked. I will absolutely come back the next time I'm in town.

Yelp
Pizza and burrata salad were a 10/10. Both were absolutely amazing. The pizza dough was out of this world. The ambiance outside was very beautiful and lovely. The wine, however, was served in tiny plastic cups. Nice glasses of wine should never be poured in little plastic water cups. Ruined a bit of the experience for me. But overall had a lovely time and really enjoyed our meal.

Annmarie A.

Yelp
20$ for a salad... extremely disappointed. The salad does not represent the photos I saw online when I ordered. Sloppy to go order. Pizza was cold.
google avatar

Diana L.

Yelp
Excellent pizza nestled in the heart of the funk zone. Don't only go to check out their wall made of pennies but the cute outdoor patio. If you do not have time to enjoy on the premises order take away. The east coast pepperoni has high end pepperoni and marinara sauce taste fresh. The carbonara-surprise has peas on it but really delicious. The pizza size is enough for two people or one hungry person. Great quality pizza with great taste that will not break the bank.
google avatar

Jadyn V.

Yelp
Came here the other night for the second time and it did not disappoint! The crust was perfect and the toppings were good quality you could tell. The only thing is that I asked for ranch he told me it was over $2 so I didn't get any. It was also super busy (saturday night) and we could barely find a table but when we did it hadn't been cleaned off so we had to stand for a while before we could get someone's attention to clean it off. Loved the pizza though and the vibes of the outside with the lights.

Yelp
Lucky Penny is the perfect compliment to the Funk Zone. For anyone who needs a bite to eat to go along with their wine tasting or grabbing a beer with friends this place is for you. The pizza is made fresh and cooked perfectly. Every pizza I've had their is delicious and they have the combo you're looking for. The crust has a great char on the outside while the sauce has a refreshing tomato taste. The outside of the building is also has a cool design. The building itself is covered in pennies to go along with the name. If you're at one of the near by establishments, they will text you when your order is ready so you can pick it up and enjoy your beverages of choice. Lucky Penny is a must stop place in The Funk Zone!
google avatar

Minna J.

Yelp
We did takeout from here and the pizza was decent -- crust is delicious, pizza is not very saucy, and the salads are weird - we ordered a Caesar and it was, like, a head of Romaine lettuce.
google avatar

Jason K.

Yelp
My wife and I visited Figuera Brewing a year and a half ago and saw everyone ordering Lucky Penny pizza and we envied it. It took a year and a half and we would put this pizza against the best pizza in Italy, which is a bold statement! We got the Rosso pizza, which is just sauce with garlic and basil my wife said no olive oil. We ordered a side of anchovies for two dollars and some cheese on the side. The side cheese is actually shaved parmesan. What is that? An extra 25 cents? And it is something your guest remembers and tells their friends. This place is the bomb, I said to my wife "That is a five star place!" She said "Oh, yeah!" Anytime a pizza place has anchovies on the menu, it is a quality place. One menu item = You know quality.

Cindy B.

Yelp
Service at the counter was nice. Lil outdoor patio was fine. They were out of both red wines & the sparkling rose. The rose was just fine.
google avatar

James N.

Yelp
It would be difficult to be walking around in the Funk Zone and not want to stop in at Lucky Penny. The decor alone (with 150,000 coins stuck to the walls) is eye-catching enough, but the happy folks enjoying wood fired pizzas in an outdoor patio setting just a block or two from the beach makes it a must. Prices are right on point. These are delicious pies (6-8 pieces each) served by friendly staff members right to your table. I couldn't be happier. We will definitely return.

Analy C.

Yelp
We stumbled upon Lucky Penny walking through the funk zone. The building is covered in pennies. Looks pretty cool. We ordered the east coast pepperoni pizza and it was delicious, although possibly a little overcooked. The bread, crust, pepperoni cups and cheese it was all good. We just didn't eat the extra charred bits. The cashier was friendly and the pizza came out pretty quickly (it was a Wednesday afternoon.)

Yelp
pizza of your vaycay dreams. Stumbled across lucky penny while drinking at the Area 51 winery. Ordered the pizza on a whim. and it DID NOT, I repeat DID NOT disappoint!!!! sooo freakkin delish!! the crust is soft centered with a little crispy, cheese is melted to perfection, pepperoni is huge and perfect to soak up all the wine tastings. Perfect size to share. they also offer gluten free options. Treat yoself and order a few! quick service! nice staff. AMAZINGLY fresh ingredients! worth every calorie.

Yelp
This place is a great pizza spot! Loved the salads and a pizzas..very nice outdoor vibe and happy we went here for dinner. The staff is really nice as well.

Yelp
I got the surfer pizza and he just plopped it on the table like it was nothing but the pizza was also not hot as it looked and untasty. It seemed that they rushed it and didn't cook the other side of the pizza. Also added sloppy sauce maybe they realized they forgot. Lunchables would've been much better. Prob worse pizza I've had in town. But the cashier and music playlist was 4 stars :)

Yelp
Supper yummy pizza. The combinations are top tier. Definitely recommend getting the salty

Yelp
Loved how this place was decked out for Halloween! The food was fantastic, but the highlight was the seasonal frozen cocktail: limoncello.

Yelp
My group stumbled upon this pizza spot tucked away behind a restaurant and bar after every other restaurant had a long wait on a Saturday night. It's an order-at-the-window place with lots of outdoor seating available. The pizzas are decently sized and probably best to split 2 pizzas for 3 people. Everything we tried was so tasty and the food was ready fairly quick! A summary of the pizzas we tried Roasted Maitake Mushroom- really good white sauce and nice truffle/mushroom flavor Classic Cheese- a solid cheese pizza with high quality mozzarella & shaved parmesan The Californian- great for pesto fans and the lemon ricotta made it very light & fresh tasting East Coast Pepperoni- probably the heaviest of the pizzas but very flavorful and they did not skimp on the pepperoni Cheesy Garlic Bread- similar to the cheese pizza but with very strong garlic flavor & lots of red peppers (sauce is on the side)

Yelp
Pizza is good! But the prices are outrageous this needs to change if so we would 100% order here weekly over other places in town.

Yelp
Found Lucky Penny while walking around the food/wine district around State street and the beach in Santa Barbara. The wood fired pizza was really good and had that nice crust that comes from a pizza oven. Had the OG and it had some heat to it without being too hot from the chilies. It's in a nice part of town which made sitting outside in their patio area great, too.

Yelp
make sure we had some food for our train ride back to LA. We were pleasantly surprised by how delicious everything was! It was a bit awkward to take photos of it while we were in the train.... But let me just tell you, I would take the train back up there just to have this pizza again! So we ordered the OG (amazing... The sausage was chefs kiss), the salty surfer (!!!!!), The garlic cheesy bread with kinda spicy marinara, the chopped salad and a side of ranch. The side of ranch was sooooo good. Perfectly herby! The garlic bread was so loaded with garlic and smelled amazing! I'm sure we smelled amazing too! I want to try all the things on their menu! Pickup was super easy, we ordered on our phones and picked up at the window. The gal was super nice and even gave us extra plates, napkins and condiments. They definitely made our train ride back home that much more enjoyable! 100000000/10

Yelp
This spot came highly recommended so we decided to give it a go. Above average pizza with outdoor seating in a nice setting? Yes please. The pizza was really good & would most definitely eat here again on our next visit. Friendly fast service was also a plus.

Yelp
Overrated and overpriced. Ordered a chopped salad which was oily and salty. Three different pizzas: surfer was the best, OG was OK, and Margherita was greasy and bland. All three were on the verge of burnt to incinerated. I like wood fired - but this was too far gone.

Yelp
After viewing the spectacular Sistine Chapel ceiling exhibit at the Mission Church (https://www.santabarbaramission.org/sistine-chapel-omsb) we stopped by Lucky Penny for some pizza, and what a pizza it is. The best Margherita pizza I've ever had. Perfectly baked in their wood burning oven; if overbaked or burned it would have been rejected as I have in other places. Though there are a variety of Margherita styles baked on wood, and some are good, Lucky Penny so far is the best. Medium size only, but for $18 you get to sample real gourmet. The long fermentation of the dough, the quick bake, being cut into 6 slices with each slice having some burrata ( not di bufala) cheese and some basil with some seasoned halved cherry tomatoes, results in a taste that incomparable. Much better than Pizzana in LA.

Yelp
How do you know if a pizza joint is good? Order a Margherita. The theory is, if the base is good - you can't go wrong. It's like going to an ice cream shop and ordering a vanilla; usually a safe bet and chance to judge if the quality is there. Safe to say, Lucky Penny did not disappoint! The location's close to the train station with plenty of outdoor dining, so it's a relaxing way to end the day with a meal alfresco before your long ride home. The service was prompt, and the team made it very easy to order. Drink selection was nice with local beer options. On that particular night, we were able to catch the sunset. People felt comfortable bringing their dogs to the establishment, and it felt like a very social third space where customers and staff just got to be friends. People came out to Lucky Penny to not only socialize with their own established friend group but also meet new folks. Love that! I guess the atmosphere's just so inviting that you could bond over pizza and the great Santa Barbara weather.

Yelp
The Lucky Penny A little outdoor walk up restaurant with cute covered umbrella seating. Sit in the sun or sit on the shade! We needed a place to park our e-bikes, this lace let us pull them inside. The restaurants in the area kept telling us we had to put it in the bike rack. We didn't trust that, we even saw a bike chain that had been cut off laying on the side walk. We pulled our bikes in to the front and ordered our food We ordered Heirloom Tomato and Persian Cucumber Salad and the meatballs. The salad was delicious a couple different types of tomato, arugula, cucumber, dressing, and I believe Ricotta (or something similar). The meatballs were also very good. Soft and flavorful with marinara and a side of garlic bread. The only warning on the meatballs is that the salt might be a bit too much for those watching their salt intake. Note: if you are wanting water and don't need to have bottled water opt for the water at the side of the walk up. If you order water, they ca it liquid death (comes in a can like a beer) and is 6 bucks. I wish the cashier had told us that. Overall, food is good for a quick stop, a little on the expensive side... but it is downtown SB.
