The Best New Restaurants in San Diego | Eater San Diego

"Popular San Gabriel Valley restaurant Luscious Dumplings has expanded to Chula Vista serving a similar array of pan-fried, steamed, and boiled dumplings all completely made by hand. Included in the California Michelin Guide as a Bib Gourmand selection, Luscious serves chive, pork, egg, and shrimp as their signature combination, steamed soup dumplings (xiao long bao), and pan-fried pork dumplings that feature crispy golden brown edges for a delightful textural contrast. A small set of noodle soups, like stewed beef noodle, sliced pork belly, and mushroom meat sauce, act as slurp-worthy complements to the dumplings. —Matthew Kang, Eater Southern California/Southwest" - Helen I. I really enjoyed it! Especially the steam bao, should be freshly made by them, not just some premade food like other restaurants. Highly recommend! Hope the standards will be maintained as years go by!

I wasn't sure what to expect, but I walked through the front door and wasn't greeted by anyone. Had to walk up to the front and asked how to get seated they said feel free to sit anywhere that is open and order from the QR code at the table or order at the front or o line and wait for your pick up order. I was trying to eat in, so luckily there was an open table to sit at immediately. Then proceeded to order everything through Toast and items started coming quickly as they were ready which was nice. It would have been nice detail if someone could have told us that we needed to serve ourselves everything such as utensils, plates and also to please bus your own table clean after! Besides that, the location is nice and clean, modern. Food came in various plates that were disposable or reusable so you had to choose how to bus your table. Food was exactly as I expected and delicious! I'd come again, it's nice that there's this option instead of going to Convoy!

Google
Delicious as always! I ordered the Spicy Angus Beef Noodles and the Pan-Fried Chive Shrimp and Pork Dumplings, and they did not disappoint. :) This is my go to spot whenever I’m craving spicy comfort food, and it always hits the spot. Huge thanks to Jalen and Lasante for serving my meal, drink, and their famous chili oils!

Google
Beautiful new Dumpling restaurant in Eastlake. The interior was well decorated with spacious seating. We had the chicken and Vegan dumpling and the beef rolls. All of the delicious and well presented. My favorite was the beef and cheese- it was AMAAAZING The cashier was kind and friendly. Great experience

We ate at Luscious Dumplings when we visited San Diego and we were impressed with both the food and the service. They even gave our toddler a treat. We appreciate the kind gesture.

Google
November 9th @ 1:40pm : we initially came to this plaza for something quick to eat, we were going to go next door to the taco shop but decided to try something different. As soon as we walked into the restaurant we were kindly greeted by 2 boys named Gilbert & Jalen! Food was giving Din Tai Fung without the wait and crowd and the far drive! Atmosphere: was 5/5 music was playing at just the right noise level and they have great taste ! Over all experience was 5/5 definitely will come again!

Google
This place was a total rip-off. There was no service at all — we had to order using a QR code and weren’t told that we’d also have to get our own water, silverware, and everything else. I even tipped in advance thinking there’d be table service, but apparently not. The food looked good at first, but everything was extremely sweet — every single dish seemed loaded with sugar or something similar. It was overwhelming and honestly made me feel nauseous after a while. The dumplings were the worst part: each one was filled with so much water that when you took a bite, it splashed everywhere. Definitely not worth the money or the hype.

Google
The food here is really good! I think something that they could do to improve is to add another machine where you can order or have someone running a cashier. Additionally, I think adding a stack of side plates at the utensils area would be helpful since when our order arrived there were no plates to put our dumplings on as we were sharing the food within the group. Otherwise, it was still a good experience and would definitely come back.

Yelp
Really good food, service is super awesome. Definitely gonna come again and bring more people! :)

Yelp
Happy to have found something this good in my new neighborhood. I'm still getting familiar with the local spots, and this one was such a win. You scan the QR code at the table and order right from your phone - super easy and fast. We tried several dishes, and the standouts were so good. The shrimp and pork wonton soup was really flavorful, the steamed pork soup dumplings were juicy with that perfect bite, and the popcorn chicken was downright addicting (I kept stealing from their plate). The steamed piggy buns were adorable, but flavor-wise didn't wow me. Our server was genuinely personable -- warm, helpful, and quick with refills. No surprise they earned a Michelin star in 2021. Overall, such a good spot. I'll absolutely come back.

Yelp
My daughter loves dumplings and I love trying braised beef noodle soups. Love that this place opened up near the house. Saves a drive to DTF. We have dined in twice. Both different experiences. So I'll have to go again and see how the customer service goes. As far as food- very good quality as a Michelin recognized restaurant. There's indoor and out door seating. Free parking lot. I think we just sat down where we wanted a little cramped inside. U order off of a QR code and like another yelper said you're asked to tip before experiencing service. So maybe bring cash to tip after as suggested. So my first visit- I ordered on my own thru the QR code. There's a self serve soda fountain station and water cups. I served myself my own drinks. They have biodegradable plates, bowls, utensils- that again I had to get up and get myself. I ended up cleaning up and throwing everything away myself too. So during my 2nd visit. I opted out of tip because the only table service they provided was delivering the food to our table last time. However during this 2nd visit, a new guy was working. He was attentive and helpful. I still did most of the things but he also offered service. Ordered braised beef noodle soup Spicy wontons And xlb

Yelp
Luscious Dumplings came highly recommended and it did not disappoint. I'm only disappointed that I didn't dine-in but rather did take out. The food was packed securely and snug in the togo bag. The scallion pancake was flaky and topped with green onions and a great appetizer to start with. Their Spicy angus beef noodle soup was amazing! As a dedicated beef noodle soup enthusiast, I can confirm this one is the absolute best. It included a generous amount of noodles, veggies, and beef. Premium, exceptionally tender; that's how I'd describe the beef. The broth was deeply flavorful with a medium degree of spiciness, not mild yet not overly spicy where it overpowers everything. I will definitely be back to try their XLBs and pan fried pork dumplings.

Yelp
First experience at Luscious Dumplings which happened to be voted a 2021 Michelin rated restaurant in Chula Vista, CA. It's tucked to the right of Nothing Bundt Cakes. I was craving wonton soup for dinner instead of ordering dumplings. To order your food, the waiters prefer you order by taking a photo of the QR code. Not only does Luscious Dumplings have great customer service and affordable prices!! As for the ambiance, it's simple, with framed photos of dumplings on their white walls.

Yelp
Can't say enough about their dumplings! I recently feasted on Luscious Dumplings, and I am already craving them again. It's a bit cramped inside the restaurant but there are plenty of seats including a bar style seating, which I sat at. There were condiments at every table, and it is self-serve when it comes to water and utensils. Cucumber Salad (5/5): A simple but refreshing appetizer to share! They dressed up the cucumbers and were lightly smashed to absorb the sauce. Popcorn Chicken (4/5): Standard, juicy pieces of fried chicken served with a mayo sauce. Solid, but would not order this again. Yuzu Chicken Soup Dumplings (4/5): Delicious chicken soup inside each dumpling and the flavor was there. Crab & Pork Soup Dumplings (5/5): Both of the crab and pork provided so much flavor when you bite into it! This one was my favorite to order. Not much service but the staff still acknowledged guests as they came in and left and still went around asking about the quality of the food. This restaurant is something you would discover in Convoy area, so this is a different and unique find to the area!

Yelp
I was reading on my trusty Yelp reviews and came a cross this little gem ? Luscious Dumplings . This place is a fast food that doesn't taste fast. Ordering is a little challenging for us old folks so next time I will bring my 10 year old granddaughter lol!! Order from your phone or from a big screen or get a paper menu and a pencil. The vibe is totally chill and the ambiance is relaxed jeans and sweats. The food was great which is expected coming from a 2021 Michelin star place . Michelin quality for a very small price!! Suggest soup dumplings and noodles Dan Dan yummy good !!

Yelp
The place was delicious and we loved everything we ordered. Pick a table, order AND pay off the QR code. Every restaurant should do this. Allows you to take your time, order when ready, and leave right away when done. The only weird thing was that it asked for a tip and to pay immediately after ordering. We didn't know what type of service otherwise there was so perhaps they can separate the payment for afterwards. So everyone knows, you order, and for the drinks, they call your name and you have to go up to the counter to get the cups. For the food, they brought it over to the table. You bus the table afterwards yourself. Green onion pancake was tasty and I loved that they added fresh green onions. It was very oily though. The pan fried pork dumplings were delicious. They were kind of in between a potsticker, a shen jian bao, and a dumpling. They had thick skin and also soup inside, so best to kind of eat it like a XLB otherwise, you'll pop the dumpling and lose all the precious, juicy, flavor. I really enjoyed the shrimp, pork, and chive boiled dumplings. Lastly, the spicy cucumber salad was so flavorful and delicious with the mala taste. Table comes with a chili oil and a sweet chili oil plus the typical soy sauce and black vinegar for your sauce. The dishware was disposable even though they seemed a tad too nice to be yet not quite like real dishware. But the instructions at the trash can was that everything was trash except the metal silverware and actual XLB steamed metal containers. The parking lot was insane at lunch time on a Friday so keep that in mind. Go further away towards Five below and it's less crazy.

Yelp
I asked my husband if we can dine here once a week and he said no lol. What a hidden gem! I love how this place is a casual eatery yet the food is very restaurant quality. In my opinion, the dumplings are up there with dumpling inn and JCK, almost neck and neck with DTF. Great customer service and friendly staff, especially the guy who speaks in "accents." The food is DELICIOUS and with great flavors, the dumplings are huge. I've never had soup dumplings that contained SO MUCH SOUP before. Pretty much half our spoon was filled and it was hot. The spicy wontons had such a unique flavor that we didn't expect. The sauce the cucumbers are drenched in is also unique, I dipped my dumplings in the leftover sauce. Everything is disposable and there is a station with everything you could need for your dining needs. You order on your phone using a QR code, the food is brought out to you, and after there are trash cans by the front door to dispose your trash and leave the silver tins that the dumplings come in on top. I can't wait to return!!

Yelp
Usually have to go to the Convoy area if you want some good dumplings so was excited to see this spot open up. They have a nice little set up with lots of seating, probably more so for smaller parties, but there's also lots of space outside as well. I tried the angus beef, and an order of their pork and shrimp dumplings to go. They provide you with all the fixings including chili oil, soy sauce, a soup spoon and any of the things you would get if you dined in, so that was nice. Service was pretty quick and staff was friendly. The food was delicious and very flavorful! Really enjoyed both items that I ordered. The ingredients tasted fresh made from scratch. Very good and would definitely come again to try other items and recommend!

Yelp
Food:: 5/5 Service: 5/5 Ambiance: 3/5 This is a perfect little hole in the wall dumpling joint to either grab food to go or share some plates with one other person. I wouldn't recommend this place for large parties since the inside is incredibly small and the tables are tight. The process to order is simple- you come in, pick a free table, scan the QR for the menu, and place your order and pay through the app. The timing to get your food and drinks is really quick. We ordered the bok choy, cucumber salad, pork XLB, and pan fried pork dumplings. We also ordered the piggy bao for dessert. The veggies were fresh, delicious, and complemented the dumplings so well. Highly recommend! I'm glad we have this spot close to the house. This is a lot easier to get to than Convoy!

Yelp
Let me start with the good: Yes XLB STEAMED dumplings ( do not confuse with boiled dumplings which will taste more doughy) And the popular beef noodle soup, taste good enough to not drive the distance. The bad : QR menus: I would appreciate a paper menu next to QR code or at least offer one upon entering restaurant . Customer service from Chef : Attitude not appreciated.-needless to say I will not return . I am okay driving to Meet Dumplings. When I went up to cashier to request to change my order from boiled to steam dumplings the chef paused what he was doing and stared at me for 2 seconds too long ( his body language was loud ,eye rolling, deep breaths ) ... Chef body language was the first red flag he even responded on behalf of cashier telling me they were out of steamed dumplings? I then asked to please cancel my order because I did not want boiled ones. Chef then changed his mind about being out of "steamed dumplings " and he told me he could give me steamed dumplings and asked if I wanted to watch him steam them for me... I responded " I do not want the same boiled dumplings to be steamed" ... So they poured the SAME boiled dumplings into the steam basket and I repeated to the chef and cashier to please cancel the dumplings and his response was that boiled and steam are the same and that he had just boiled for 5 mins ... I know the way I like my dumplings and it is not the same texture once it's boiled . Chef did not appreciated that I changed my order from " BOILED " to STEAMED and he was unprofessional . It would help if they would organize the menu items and put " XLB BOILED pork and XLB STEAM Pork under the same section and capitalize the BOILED and STEAM. Luscious team: Thank you for my refund and thank you for checking on my table.

Yelp
Welcome addition to the east side of Chula Vista area! It's pretty casual here. You can order from your table via Toast or walk up to the counter. Food came out surprisingly quick. Not many seats and decor. Our party of 5 was a little cramped with my chair basically up against the kitchen counter. Came on a Friday night and it was busy and super loud. I had a hard time hearing and communicating with the other side of the table for our group of five. The only other table would have been right next to the door where people were lined up. Scallion pancakes. Flaky and crispy on the outside. Soft and chewy inside. Perfect. Dumplings: Ordered pork XLB, vegan pan fried, and shrimp/pork pan fried dumplings. All were done great. Angus beef bowls- Got the rice and the noodle soup version. Beef was tender and flavorful. Good amount. Broccoli with sesame seed dressing. Simple but good. Definitely would come back again for food.

Yelp
I didn't know what to expect but was definitely satisfied by this visit. First off, came in with my four kids and the staff was helpful explaining the menu and very patient waiting for a six year old decide what he wanted to eat. We went with the Angus Stewed Beef Soup, Steamed Pork Soup Dumplings, Pan Fried Dumplings, Popcorn Chicken w/ Sauce and a side of rice. Everything was delicious, but my favorite were the Beef soup and steamed pork soup dumplings. Food comes in portions that you can eat individually but we opted to enjoy them family style. The restaurant is a casual dining experience where you can either order on your phone or on a tablet at the counter. Disposable utensils and plates are available for self service and each table has soy sauce and chili based sauces to add to your dish as desired. I am definitely making this one of our regular spots to dine!

Yelp
New spot in the Village Walk at Eastlake, right next to the Bundt cake spot. Big parking lot, so no issue there. Good space inside and you can eat outside too if you would like. We walked in and it was pretty packed. One of the workers said we can order from the QR code if we wanted or wait. We quickly ordered from the QR code and sat ourselves at a table inside. Food came out relatively quickly! We only ordered a little bit cause we didn't know what to expect. We ordered the beef noodles which were really yummy. A little on the plain side, but still good. We also ordered the pan fried pork and pork soup dumplings. Both very good, but my kids liked the pan fried more. I really enjoyed the soup dumplings along with lots of their sauce and fresh ginger! Last but not least, we ordered the scallion pancakes and the popcorn chicken. The scallion pancakes were okay, a little oily... nothing too special, but still good. The popcorn chicken was delicious!!! Overall, the service was great and the food was good! Will be visiting again soon!

Yelp
I finally had to see what the hype was about since everyone keeps comparing them to Din Tai Fung. They also won a Michelin in 2021 so my expectations were high. Tried a few items on my first visit. The steamed pork soup dumplings (XLB) were an easy 10 out of 10. So good I regretted not ordering more. The steamed vegan dumplings hit about an 8 out of 10, and the pan fried pork dumplings were a solid 9 out of 10. Honestly, those soup dumplings are next level. They have all the good stuff for dipping too, chili oil, vinegar, you name it. Everything was fresh and flavorful. I will absolutely be coming back. Just a heads up it does get busy, so be ready to wait a bit but trust me, it is worth it.

Yelp
I was thrilled to see this finally open! I called my family to come over and eat. Most of Chula Vista East was here lol! We stood in line to place our order in the kiosk and grabbed a table. At peak hours, tables are at a premium so it can be challenging to grab a table. There are tables outside, but those can fill up as well. I ordered a bit of everything, steamed, pan fried, & boiled dumplings along with multiple side dishes. The first thing that was brought out was the boiled dumplings, which were still a little cold on the inside :(. Given that it was quite busy, we powered through it but it didn't give us a great first impression. Our side dishes came out next, which we picked up, & these were pretty tasty. We had the bok choy, broccoli, mushrooms and scallion pancake. Tbh, it was difficult to cut the scallion pancake sections into smaller pieces with the utensils since they're pretty flimsy. We got the pan fried chicken dumplings - which were just ok. Kinda bland. Same thing with the steamed and pan fried fish dumplings, these were bland as well. My favorite one was the pork soup dumplings, which really is the best of all. Almost more than halfway through our meal we had no idea that small plates were available since they don't put it out in the self serve station. We used the containers that some of the dishes came in as our makeshift plates. When one of the servers realized we were using the containers that the dumplings came in as our plates, she went ahead and provided small paper plates. Also, it's difficult to pick up some of your order (some of it delivered to your table) especially if you're navigating a small and crowded restaurant. Lastly, the steamed dumplings were dripping water from the bottom, which dripped on us and in our water :(. Recommend some sort of plate underneath when serving this dish to customers. I will wait awhile before I come back. Experience was chaotic but wanted to see the new restaurant.

Yelp
Ordered from postmates and was not disappointed. Ordered the scallion pancakes 8/10, fried chicken + cabbage dumplings 7/10 (basic), steamed blue crab + pork dumplings 9/10 yummy!, and the piggy custard buns 9/10 cute and yummy! Will definitely be eating here or ordering from here again!

Yelp
This was a much farther drive than my normal radius to try a new restaurant, however it was still shorter than making a commute of over an hour north to visit the next closest location of Luscious Dumplings. The suite was next door to a famous local donut shop in the Village Walk at Eastlake in Chula Vista. Inside seating could hold about three dozen customers, and then there were some outside tables on the sidewalk. Luscious Dumplings comes with the reputation of being awarded a Michelin Bib Gourmand beginning in 2021 which is no small feat in the culinary world. A self-service tablet was available at the counter to place an order. I wanted to focus on various types of dumplings although noodle dishes were available too. My selections were the following which each came as a set of eight... * Boiled Cabbage, Shrimp, and Pork Dumplings * Pan Fried Flaky Fish Dumplings * Steamed Chicken Dumplings Not only was the skin wrapper for these dumplings thinner than you find at most Asian restaurants, but the amount of filling inside each one was in the proper ratio. The first set of cabbage, shrimp, and pork was my favorite because of the combination of multiple ingredients. Honestly, all of them had a quality that was as good as you will find in all of SD County. Chili oil, soy sauce, and vinegar were provided at each table to enhance the taste of the products. One aspect I didn't like was how the food was delivered to each party. Instead of handing out a numbered buzzer that would vibrate when an order was ready or a numbered placard to set at a table for visibility to the servers, a worker would call out a ticket number when a particular item was available. They would walk around the dining area, both inside and outside, to try and locate the correct table. This process was repeated until all of the choices in an order were fulfilled. With the limited seating, I noticed that the dirty tables weren't cleaned as quickly as possible. My two-top still had some chili oil residue on the surface that hadn't been wiped off. For the dumplings alone, I would rate them with five stars. Subtract one star for the above correctable issues with the operational flow, and that was how I came up with a four star dining experience at Luscious Dumplings.

Yelp
Our in-laws invited us out for dinner to celebrate my BIL and nephew's birthday and since family comes first always, of course we were going to be there. They told us we were eating at Luscious Dumplings, which I was excited about because I saw an Instagram snippet about this restaurant being Michelin rated. For our first time eating here, I can see why it received a Michelin award because the entree I grubbed on was deliciously satisfying and our server Emilia provided noteworthy customer service. Luscious Dumplings is located in the eastern end of Chula Vista specifically on Eastlake Parkway. The restaurant can be found within a busy outdoor shopping center called Village Walk at Eastlake. The anchor stores at this shopping center are TJ Maxx, Trader Joe's, Five Below, Sprouts, and CVS. Luscious Dumplings is next to Bag of Beans, Nothing Bundt Cakes, Donut Bar, and Cotija's Taco Shop. Luscious Dumplings was really busy for the Labor Day weekend and unfortunately, it's not a spacious restaurant. There was a group that took up most of the tables, there were ledge top seating with barstools, and thankfully our party had outdoor umbrella covered round tables, which they had a good amount of outdoor seating. The decor inside consisted of framed pics of the restaurant's namesake: dumplings. Big ups to our friendly and hard working server Emilia, who was attentive and ensured we were taken care of with her positive personality. Luscious Dumplings has been recognized with a Michelin award called the Michelin Bib Gourmand, which is given to restaurants that offer good food at reasonable prices. The Bib Gourmand recognizes establishments that serve familiar, comforting dishes made well, with a focus on quality, value, consistency, and affordability. After chowing down on their food, I can attest that Luscious Dumplings is so deserving of this Michelin award. I ordered the Angus Stewed Beef Over Rice, which comes with tender cuts of premium Angus beef served over white rice, half of an egg, and complemented with fresh bok choy and greens. The Angus beef was so tender, tasty, and the rice and all of the components made that bowl so filling. I also ordered the Popcorn Chicken With Sauce, which comes with crispy, golden-brown bite-sized chicken pieces, seasoned to perfection bursting with juicy flavor in every bite and served with a mayo-type sauce. I wish the popcorn chicken was crunchier and it was too soft to my liking. Make sure to order their Cucumber Salad, which comes with refreshing cucumber slices tossed in a tangy-sweet and slightly spicy chili oil dressing. Taking bites of the cucumber salad balanced the richness of my Angus beef bowl. I ate some of the dumplings my family ordered, but I thought the star of my entire meal was the Angus beef bowl. Thank you to our family for inviting us to celebrate my BIL and nephew and thanks to them for allowing me to enjoy an award winning restaurant and delectable meal. Luscious Dumplings needs to be experienced for their affordable and memorable food and quality customer service.

Yelp
So excited Eastlake now has a Michelin bib gourmand nodded spot! Went here for soft opening. Ordered easily via touchscreen to-go. Team is of course learning to work together and perform well. Waited 30+ minutes for items ordered to-go. Dumplings were fire. All of them. Fried and steamed were both really yummy. Broccoli specialty dish was pretty good. The braised beef, veggie (bok choi) and rice dish was life-changingly delicious and only around $16. All around delicious. Happy to have Luscious dumplings in the neighborhood!

Yelp
I'm glad they opened up the spot in Eastlake and it is a good replacement for Din Tai Fung. When you think of soup dumplings, you typically think of DTF but this place does it well. It is a smaller restaurant, but if the restaurant is full, you can opt to sit outside. I think the prices are fair in the food is good. The only complaint that I have is that you order first and pay upfront and then it gives you a tip option doing this doesn't allow customers to experience the service before tipping. I suggest you bring cash that you can leave on the table afterwards for them.

Yelp
This Michelins Bib Gourmand little gem located in Eastlake Parkway Shopping Center is what South Bay needed. There aren't too many Asian places with XLB in South Bay and this will save the drive up to Convoy or UTC for Din Tai Fun. We hadn't been to DTF in a while but the prices seem relatively close to DTF. The skin of the dumplings are not as thin as DTF so don't expect that here. There seemed to be a lot of people doing We were here for dinner on Saturday. The lines were steady and busy. There is a kiosk to order your meal. You can view the menu using the QR code. The family in front of us seemed to have difficulty placing their order or was indecisive. The line started backing up so they took our order at the counter. We ordered steamed pork XLB, steamed chicken dumpling (by mistake on our part and had intended on ordering another XLB), pan fried vegan dumplings, vegan steamed dumplings, and a broccoli creamy sesame sauce. We sat inside at the counter against the wall. The place is small but there is also outdoor seating. All utensils and napkins are by the drink station. Our order came out in a reasonable amount of time. All the food tasted freshly made. Our number was called for the creamy broccoli. It was small and surprisingly - cold. It was good, but we are used to having hot broccoli and was not expecting it to be cold (again it was good). The rest of the order was brought to us. Both vegan dumplings (steamed and pan fried) were heavier than our other dumplings. If you are vegan and hungry, definitely get this. I like the flavor of the pan fried over the steamed. The chicken dumpling had a good amount of chicken in it. There weren't any other vegetables or herbs in it. The steamed XLB pork dumpling was our favorite. It had good flavors to it. This place is a 4.5 for us. We definitely will return but we would be trying out more XLB.

Yelp
Just opened in Eastlake and Michelin recognized. Fast casual vibe. Walk in, order on the tablet, grab a seat. We enjoyed everything we tried. The dough on the dumplings was a perfect bouncy, soft texture and just the right amount. The filling of the Shrimp and Chive steamed dumplings, XLB, and the Shrimp and Pork Pan-fried dumplings were well-seasoned and piping hot. Steamed items came with thin-cut ginger, with accoutrements (soy sauce, vinegar, chili oil) on each table to make a sauce to your liking. We really loved the sweet and spicy sauce that was by the beverage dispenser, though. Def a must try and easy to miss. Steamed items come in the steamer. All the utensils, place settings are disposable, and there is a sign to not throw out the steamers in case anyone thought to. Soft opening but a good opening. Just glad to have bomb dumplings in the area. About $50 for pan-fried dumplings, steamed dumplings, XLB, and bok choy, but def worth it.

Yelp
Love the food, hate the business model. You go in, order on a QR code, and pick a table. The problem is, this seems to create a lot of confusion, because the people bringing out the food don't seem to know which orders belong to which tables. After we ordered, the servers went around to every table for every order. They were reading out names to try to figure out where each order was supposed to go, which contributed to the chaos (since the place was so packed). We eventually got our food and every. We especially loved the pan-fried dumplings and beef noodle soup, but everything else (including the soup dumplings) were just okay. I'm not sure if we'll be back.

Yelp
So excited that this place is open!!! Love that we are getting more Asian spots in Eastlake and we don't need to drive to Din tai fung. Let me tell you the weather was perfect for their Braised Beef and noodles. The meat was so tender. And you cannot come here and not order dumplings. We did the chicken soup dumplings and they were filled with so much flavor. My kids loved the popcorn chicken. One of my absolute favorites was the scallion pancakes. The have a self order station. Which that is one of the things I'm wondering about if they do have a crowd. It took some time to get our dumplings but I was worth the weight. The mango boba drink was not the greatest. It tasted a bit watery. Other thank that everything else was amazing

Yelp
Staff explained the menu and prompted us how to place our orders. Big fan of how the ordering system works for this style of dining. Special shout out to Jaylen! He went out of his way to make my son feel special. He is also a good dancer.

Yelp
Great food, super chill atmosphere, clean, great staff! Very welcome addition to Chula Vista! Tried: - Broccoli with Creamy Sesame Sauce - Steamed Yuzu Chicken Soup Dumplings (XLB) - Steamed Pork Soup Dumplings (XLB) - Popcorn chicken - Vegetable spring rolls The Sauce in the Broccoli was very good, light and unique. The soup Dumplings were super flavorful! ***Popcorn chicken was great, not processed, crunchy and hot, not greasy. I wish they made teriyaki chicken because I'm confident it would be next level! Dumpling portions are great, the others were smaller but appropriate for shareable starters. Price point was like $2-3 per menu item more than expected but definitely in the do-a-ble range for what you're provided. Great job to the Staff and owners for a great experience - we'll be back!

Yelp
Completely satisfied with our experience here. It's good to know that there is a place close by in Eastlake that rivals the taste of Din Tai Fung. The service is great. They were super helpful and the pricing is extremely affordable considering the quality of the food. 10 out of 10 would recommend

Yelp
Located in the busy strip mall off Eastlake Parkway. Nice and clean restaurant with ample seating. The food was excellent and the customer service was good. I had the fried chicken dumplings and broccoli with cream sauce. The fried dumplings were my favorite and some of the best I've had in a while. Although I like the flavor of the cream sauce I wish it had been a little creamier it was soupy. This will be my go to place when I have a taste for dumplings.

Yelp
This is pretty far out of my way about 30 - 40 minutes drive...but sure beats driving to Arcadia in the San Gabriel mountains just to get my fix! The cashier he was very friendly. I don't ever use or code menus so I was happy they had paper menus. My favorite dumping is the beef and cheese. Is July 2025 and after 15 years of being Yelp Elite they cut me off. I've been waiting 7 months for some feedback a to why... don't you think I deserve to be elite? I eat and taste and do great photos for places all over the world.

Yelp
This was my very first time at Luscious Dumplings, and I couldn't have asked for a better experience. From the moment I walked in, Jalen made me feel welcome and comfortable. His warm personality and attentiveness truly stood out and made my visit extra special. Even offered us the option to choose music to play in the restaurant but the music playing was already great On top of that, the food was absolutely delicious--fresh, flavorful, and clearly made with care. The dumplings lived up to the hype, and I'll definitely be coming back. Big thanks to Jalen for making my first visit such a positive one. Exceptional service paired with amazing food is always a win!

Yelp
Lucious Dumplings definitely has potential! The food itself was good, you can tell they use quality ingredients and the flavors were solid. The soup dumplings were especially nice and the only items served in actual dishes, which made them stand out even more. That said, the rest of the food came in to-go containers, and all the utensils and plates were disposable, which took away from the overall dining experience. The ordering system was also a bit confusing, and it's not ideal that you have to pay first and then pay again if you decide to order more food later. It felt like ordering at a fast food restaurant. On the bright side, the employees were friendly and even recommended some tasty items, which I really appreciated. I was just expecting a little more from the dine-in experience. It's still a new spot, though, so some growing pains are understandable. I'll definitely give them another try in the future once they've had a bit more time to settle in.

Yelp
My review is based on how horrible the customer service is. I called on Monday 09/22 around 6pm to see if they accept reservations for my brothers bday. I spoke with I believe his name was Landre and he confirmed they accept reservations. I placed my reservation for Tuesday 9/23 at 530 pm and got confirmation. We were excited to try this spot out! Now the worse part, my entire party arrived at 5:28 pm, there was an individual without her entire party who was infront of us told the lady, I believe who is the business manager requested table of 4. Mind you her entire party has not arrived and the table that was currently available had 5 chairs assuming that was our table since we had reservations. The lady never acknowledged my party or I to the point I had to say something and express we had reservations at 530pm. Her response was "oh....well, that table over there is about to be finished could you wait?" Then gave the available table to the other guest whose full party has not been present. My entire party was extremely upset and the other table was no where close to being finished. What was the point of taking reservations if you do not honor them?? They also need to create a policy where all parties must be present to be seated. My party and I decided to just eat at Otay sushi and crab instead. Being respectful so they are aware we are not longer going to wait, i decided to go back inside and walk to the front and explained to the lady aka the business manager which I truly believe is the business manager based on her picture and everyone else in the kitchen that we will no longer wait, since I originally had reservations for 5 at 530 pm, she decided to give our table away, so we willl eat some place else. Of course her response was again "oh...okay." She never apologized, never took responsibility, and dismissed us with another "oh okay". Only provided with an attitude with no care. What kind of customer service is that?? If you are truly a business manager than act like one. Be professional, you are a business manager for a reason who is running the business for the owner. If this is how management treats guests with confirmed reservations for a birthday, no less, then they shouldn't be in hospitality. Completely unprofessional and unacceptable. One star.

Yelp
We had Stewed Beef Rice Bowl Stewed Pork Rice Bowl Steam Pork Soup Dumpling Steam Custard Buns This is located in the same complex as a Trader Joe's in Eastlake. Parking is plenty, but there is a lot of competition for disabled spots. We highly recommend the beef and pork bowls. Very tender and you can taste the seasoning and care that went into cooking the meat for hours. The pork dumplings are mostly wrappers. There is no soup inside and the filling is like the size of a penny. Very expensive and unsatisfactory for a dish claiming to have a Michelin star. You are better off getting this at Jasmine, Emerald or Dumpling Inn in Kearny Mesa. Most disappointing were the custard buns. They simply reheated the custard buns we buy at 99 Ranch, Zion and HMart. Even the pig face design is the same. Again get the authentic ones at Jasmine or Emerald. You will notice the taste, texture and appearance of homemade buns (versus manufactured) and enjoy the salted egg yolk in the custard filling.

Yelp
First time here and was immediately greeted. Heard nothing but good things about this place and it's close to home. Will update with food review.

Yelp
The service was wonderful. The staff were very helpful and nice. I had a great variety of all different foods. Wednesdays are a great day to visit this new restaurant as it is very nice and clean. Zera the manager was professional and got my food out on a timely matter! Worth the visit for dumplings. Great options for the kiddos as well!

Yelp

Yelp
The food is exactly what this area needed ! Some comfort to heal the soul. The soup dumplings 10/10 !!! The spicy beef noodle soup was the right amount of spice and super savory and hearty. Everything else was also so good and fresh. The staff were super nice and helpful with ordering. We also go the Thai tea which was not too sweet but just right. If you're in the area go give this place a try it won't disappoint.

Yelp
Jalen, Lasante, and Made did a great job helping and serving me and my friends today for lunch. Thought it got pretty busy at some points during our time there, they stayed attentive and made us feel well taken care of. The food was great and we will definitely be back!

Yelp
Checked out this place because of the reviews. This restaurant is small but comfortable with bar seating and tables. Got here around 1pm so it was not so packed, we sat down at the bar. You order via a QR code on the table. I liked this feature because you don't depend on anyone taking your order. I would have liked though to pay after eating, because if you order and pay and then want to order more things you have to start from scratch. So it would be nice to pay your bill at the end of the experience, not the beginning because the app also makes you add the tip without knowing how the food or experience was. We ordered the Vegetable Spring Rolls, Bok Choy, Pan Fried Chicken Dumplings, Steamed Yuzu Chicken Dumplings and Pork Dumplings. Everything was delicious. Everything is basically self service, you pick up all your sauces and utensils from a bar. When you are done with your food you clean up your table. Great experience, the only issue that would be better would be making payment and tip at the end of eating not at the beginning.

Yelp
Oh man, my family is soooo happy that we have a DELICIOUS dumpling spot in the south San Diego region!! We used to travel all the way to city heights and/or clairemont to get dumplings or dim sum. We tried pan fried dumplings and steamed dumplings both were sooo juicy, and so much flavor. The sides like crispy chicken and tempura shrimp were also a great addition. Our appetizers came in to go containers which actually was perfect because we were able to use that with our leftover dumplings. The service was great! All the workers were very attentive. My only complaint was not being able to have a physical menu while we waited to order on the kiosk, but I'm just now reading that people are able to pull the menu on their phone! The space itself can only really fit 34 people and is probably not fit for large groups. I also didn't see specific handicap area but all tables are able to move around, so if you happen to come in a wheelchair or stroller for a baby, I'd just ask the workers if you're able to move the tables around. We came with our baby and her stroller was able to squeeze close to the wall and table lol. OR! You can dine outside! I just learned that during our visit, just make sure to let a worker know because they will call out your name. If they know you're outside, they will be able to deliver to you :)

Yelp
We went in and sat down and used the QR code to order. The young lady named Andrea was super helpful with questions on how and what to order. Yum! We will be back again.

Yelp
Excited to see a new spot open in the plaza, I had to check it out! I ordered a few items and a drink. Honestly, I was most excited about the popcorn chicken lol. There's been a serious lack of good options in the area, and this one definitely hit the spot The dumplings were juicy and literally burst when I bit into one. They tasted homemade, not like something from the frozen food aisle which is amazing I was a bit indifferent about the braised pork belly. The flavors felt slightly mismatched. Personally, I would've preferred something simpler: just rice, pork, greens, sauce, and maybe a sprinkle of green onions to garnish Overall, a solid first visit -- I'll definitely be back, especially for the popcorn chicken and dumplings

Yelp
Food here is really tasty but service needs work. Upon walking in, there is no visible menu or any sign that has a QR code to view. There were 3 staff standing behind the counter who did not explain ordering and there was a line to order at the single self-service kiosk. After waiting a while, I pulled up yelp on my phone to view a menu. People at the kiosk were taking a long time so a lady behind the counter said she could take our order if we were ready-- but where would we have viewed the menu if I didn't search it on yelp?! Food is all in disposable containers. I think this will be a good place for takeout in the future. I would consider dine in only on weekday odd hours when there are plenty of tables or if I'm not in a rush. To add, bag hooks on the underside of the table would be a nice addition. The chairs have open curved backs so there wasn't a great place to put my bag.

Yelp
This is our 4th time ordering here now! The veggies are amazing! The bok choy and mushrooms might be my favorite! Seaweed salad also yum, with fresh garlic added! My daughter loved the beef and cheese steamed dumplings, and my favorite are the crab and pork dumplings. We have tried all except the chicken soup dumplings. Honestly, the only item that I tried that doesn't stand out were the vegetable egg rolls. Still yummy, just didn't notice a significant difference from others places I've eaten. Again, if you're lucky to arrive when a fresh batch of chili sauce is put out next to the soda stream, be sure to fill up your sauce cup! The flavor is so fresh and delicious! Imma need to open a go fund me account to support my dumpling habit.

Yelp
This gem just opened in the Eastlake shopping center and it's already one of my new favorite spots. Thr best thing is you dont have to drive all the way to Convoy or Point Loma. From the moment we walked in, the staff made us feel so welcome--especially Zera, who went above and beyond checking on every table with genuine care and warmth. We tried several dishes and everything was delicious. The pig-shaped steamed buns were not only adorable but perfectly fluffy with a tasty filling inside. We also had crispy Taiwanese popcorn chicken that was seasoned just right and had a great crunch. The soup dumplings were rich and flavorful, and the pan-fried dumplings had that perfect golden sear while still being juicy inside. To top it off, the mango smoothie with boba was refreshing and smooth--not overly sweet, just perfect. You can tell a lot of love and attention goes into both the food and the experience. Definitely recommend supporting this new local spot--bring your appetite and your camera, because the food is as cute as it is tasty!
