"There are usually around six pastas to choose from: buttery mezzalunas filled with ricotta, tiny gnocchetti in zucchini crema, and ricotta-filled tortellini in butter with anchovies and toasted walnuts. If you see their lasagna on the menu, always order it. They switch out the pastas a lot. But the cavatelli is always available for a reason. It’s so good, and they sell it at the market section of their sister restaurant, Bar Bucce, in Little River. In the summer, Macchialina does Pasta Tuesdays, where all pastas are just $19 from 9-11pm." - virginia otazo, ryan pfeffer, mariana trabanino
"Macchialina is one of the best Italian restaurants in Miami and it’s also in the center of the known tourist universe: South Beach. The restaurant is never quite impossible to book, but it’s worth going while it’s a little more chill. They've recently renovated the space with a brand new patio and dining room. Wherever you end up, get no less than two pastas on the table and seriously consider ordering both desserts. Or just do the great $75 tasting menu." - ryan pfeffer, virginia otazo, mariana trabanino
"We always know what to expect at Macchialina: Italian dishes (mostly pasta) that feel like a final draft, edited to near perfection without so much as one superfluous fragment of parmesan on the plate. This is true even after a round of renovations that have pretty much rebuilt this restaurant from scratch. It's bigger now. It swallowed the defunct hostel that was once its neighbor and spit out a bigger dining room and (its most impressive new feature) a covered outdoor patio. But what we truly love about Macchialina are the ways it hasn’t changed. And it's still a South Beach rarity: a special occasion meal for non-billionaires." - ryan pfeffer, virginia otazo, mariana trabanino
"This family-owned Italian restaurant is a cult favorite among Miami locals. Start with the creamy polenta, enjoy the cacio e pepe, and finish with tiramisu — there’s no wrong choice. Can’t decide? Opt for the $70 four-course tasting menu, a steal by Miami standards. Pop into its newest sister restaurant, Fluke Crudo & Martini Bar, which is conveniently connected for pre-dinner drinks and bites." - Amber Love Bond
"This South Beach classic is bigger now. It swallowed the defunct hostel that was once its neighbor and spit out a completely new space, with an expanded outdoor patio and bathrooms that no longer require a harrowing commute past the hot kitchen. But what makes Macchialina stand out is its unchanged food. The six simple pastas are still the menu’s nucleus, supported by Macchialina classics such as the polenta. This place is a South Beach rarity: a special occasion meal for non-billionaires." - ryan pfeffer, mariana trabanino, virginia otazo
