The Best Restaurants in Sacramento, Roseville, and Elk Grove | Eater SF

"Although Magpie bills itself as a warm gathering spot for locals and travelers alike, its substantive menu of small plates — featuring items like a $2.50 anchovy toastette to a heftier $26 duck confit and pancake dish — also makes it an excellent candidate for a solo date or “treat yourself” location. Owned by Sacramento natives Janel Inouye and Ed Roehr, Magpie pays tribute both to their hometown and the Central Valley, where they were regularly inspired by abundant Santa Cruz farmers markets. Their intentionality is clear throughout the space, from the ambiance generated by the warmth of its guests to the seasonally rotating menu — so if those small plates melt into dinner and you find yourself facing a plate of lamb chops and glass of pinot noir, so be it." - Tamerra Griffin

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Magpie in downtown Sac, and I must say, it was an exceptional experience from start to finish! The highlight of my meal was the perfectly cooked chicken. It was tender, juicy, and seasoned to perfection, making every bite a true delight. Accompanied by seasonal vegetables, each ingredient was fresh and vibrant, showcasing the best of what the season has to offer. The combination of flavors was beautifully balanced, creating a dish that was both satisfying and delicious 😋 To complement my meal, I ordered a Lemon Drop beverage, and it did not disappoint! It was incredibly refreshing and added a delightful twist to my dining experience. Overall, my time at Magpie was remarkable. I left feeling completely satisfied and eager to return. Whether you're looking for a casual dinner or a special night out, this restaurant will not disappoint.

Went out for a dinner date without a plan. Showed up 30 mins before closing and asked if they would still serve us. Generously, they said of course. We ordered our food right away to help the kitchen, but the staff didn't rush us at all. A bottle of crémant + 4 small plates was perfect to share. Pork belly with sticky candy sauce and frizee apple salad was the star of the show. First time outside of Asia that I had perfectly-cooked pork belly: the fatty bits were liquid hot and made the meat crisp outside and juicy inside. Veggie tempura was a generous portion of crunchy green onion, chile guero and asparagus. We also had lamb meatballs and one arancine. We moved to the bar and they let us stay pretty late talking over our bottle. Thanks to everyone's gracious attitude it was a lovely evening. Impressed with the service.

There were so many delicious sounding options on the menu. Everyone in our party of five found it difficult to decide. We will definitely be back.

Came here for a Mother's Day lunch and I really liked it here. I was delighted to see a BLT sandwich on the menu, and it did not disappoint. I also had french fries, which were superb. My waiter was great, sitting outside was very pleasant (albeit for the dust and occasional gusts of wind). Easy 10/10 restaurant

Google
Wonderful location on 16th ave in Sacramento. Across from a park and the neighborhood is very lively. The restaurant is adorable with a lovely outdoor seating area. We had crab salad with grapefruit. It was fresh and delicious. The BLT…oh my! So so good. They used sundried tomatoes and a caper/mayonnaise. The bread was delicious. The sandwich…just wow!!! Definitely recommend. We started with their hummus…which was garlicky and delicious and had a custard and the carrot cake cookie for dessert. Everything was really really good. Our waitress was fantastic!! What a wonderful dining experience. We will be back for sure!! Thankyou!!

Google
Husband, adult daughter and I came here for my birthday dinner. We were not disappointed. We started out with the panko fried asparagus and were thrilled with it. Local "grass" with a marvelous sauce. We were all delighted with our entrees, which included the pork chop, the greens pasta, and the trout, which was actually almost like salmon. Short but excellent wine list. Chocolate avocado mousse topped it off to our satisfaction. Our waiter was delightful. The space is a bit noisy, but it seemed that all customers were enjoying themselves. Recommended.

Google
A perfect spot for treating yourself to a delicious and fancy meal! It's a bit pricy but for a good reason. I had the Sauteed Jimmy Nardello peppers and the Home Made Pasta with Crispy Pork Belly and was happy with both. The peppers were sweet, had a good sear, and were topped with a flavorful (but not overpowering) garlic sauce. The Pasta had a lot going on, but had a good cohesive flavor. Maybe my one small criticism is that there's too few pork pieces for its flavor to be noticeable. It gets drowned out by the sauce, which is creamy and delicious don't get me wrong, but a little more pork would've been nice. The interior is cozy and has a warm atmosphere! The patio also looks nice but it was a bit too warm in the afternoon. Would love to come back and try their other dishes

Very Creative Cuisine though lacking in Flavor 3.5 / 5 Fried Onions were the best thing we ate. Followed by Ice cream sandwich & Fries... The Chicken though very juicy was lacking in Flavor an easy fix for a talented culinary team.

Yelp
I am obsessed with Magpie. It's one of my favorite go-to restaurants in Sacramento. The menu changes with the seasons bc they use the freshest locally sourced meats and vegetables which is why their food is always delicious. It's all about the ingredients. Perfect spot for casual lunch, dinner/drinks with friends or date nights. It's a lively place that can be busy at times so may have to wait a bit but I've never had an issue and I am here regularly. They offer both indoor and outdoor seating They also have a full bar with wine, local beers and excellent cocktails. Servers are friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. My latest favorite item is the veggie hummus bowl. It was so satisfying that after I finished I couldn't wait to come back to get it again (and I did a few days later). It didn't sound like much on the menu but I'm so happy I tried it. Every bite was like a party in my mouth. The textures - creamy hummus, perfectly prepared crisp veggies, soft forbidden rice and crunchy beet chips. One time I added avocado another time an egg. Next time I'll add both just bc why not?! There is something on the menu for everyone - sandwiches, a burger with fries, amazing salads (like the stone fruit salad), plates featuring local meats and veggies and fresh pasta dishes. Hands down one of the best places in Sacramento!

Yelp
I love this place!! The restaurant is cozy, low lighting. Staff are so friendly and thoughtful. Solid 4.5/5. I also love that they have rotating menus. Quality of food is superb. They also rotate cocktails which is MUCH appreciated! They also highlight a couple of cocktails that they can make as mock tails. Only half star off because prices are a bit high for amount and value of food and I believe they charge the same amount for the mocktail as they do for the cocktail (I could be wrong- I'd have to look back on my receipt) but I do appreciate establishments that knock a few bucks off for mock tails. Overall highly recommend for date night, intimate girls night, groups up to 5-7.

Yelp
Stopped by on the way to the airport do we were kinda rushed but man this place delivered. We sat at the bar and ordered the meatballs and the hummus and bread. Very quick and friendly service and although both were good dishes MAN those meatballs were top tier. The sauce they were in was *chef kiss.* Next time we are in town we will definitely stop by for a full fledged meal. PS looks like they have music there too! It's right across from a park that had plenty of street paid parking.

Yelp
I have been wanting to check out Magpie for quite some time. I'm glad I did! We started with the Arincine and chips with onion dip. They were both quite tasty and came out quickly. We also tried the lemon bomb, their summer mojito. It was a refreshing summer cocktail. We ordered the shrimp, avocado and grapefruit salad and the gnocchi. The salad was just ok. I like my greens cut up more than these were. The avocado was not so much slices as an avocado mush. The salad had a yummy grapefruit vinaigrette but the salad was so overdressed. I will say the grapefruit was very fresh. The gnocchi was fresh and hot and pillow-y. It is tight quarters inside. Not a place to go if you want a quiet dinner. The staff were friendly and attentive and the service was speedy.

Yelp
Such a beautiful dining experience can be had at Magpie. Stopped by on a Wednesday evening and was able to get seated right away. The staff that was serving us was very knowledgeable, helpful, and kind. Everything on the menu is fresh and locally sourced. We tried the pork belly, bread and hummus, seasonal Nantes carrots, strozzapretti, and anchovy toastettes. My favorite dishes were the pork belly and bread and hummus. Everything was cleverly plated and flavorfully thoughtful. These dishes will definitely give you a unique experience. The restaurant itself is small but efficient and beautiful. There are big windows, an open bar, and a romantic vibe. I will definitely visit again to try more of their seasonal dishes!

Yelp
Celebrated a birthday here. Parking was slightly challenging but doable. The restaurant was so cute and the waiter was attentive. I was blown away by how fresh the produce was! You could really taste the quality in their ingredients. Even their salad they used seasonal peaches with a light vinaigrette and the greens were tender but crispy & topped with crispy quinoa. The beef tartare was diced and marinated with a variety of spices and vegetables with some horseradish shavings for garnish. Their pasta was perfectly al dente and the sauce was creamy but not too heavy with a good balance of savory and hints of tomatoes. The aracino was piping hot and the garlic aioli was superb. The pork belly melted in my mouth and the peaches were a good complement to the dish.

Yelp
I honestly don't know what other amazing praise I can give Magpie. Consistently innovative food that I wouldn't be able to make up if I tried. Eating here is so incredibly pleasurable. Everything from service, ambiance, cocktails and food takes you to your happy place. Great way today for my wife and I to celebrate TGIF!

Yelp
Magpie's food was excellent! We stopped in July on the way to Tahoe. We loved it so much we stopped on the way back too! Anything you try here will be delicious. Some of the best food we've had in a long time. Highly recommend.

Yelp
Our office held our annual holiday lunch here this year. I was unsure what to expect from a place named, "Cafe" but was throughly impressed. From table set-up for ~ 30, to the service that was attentive and on point, to perfect portions with great flavor profiles, it was a great experience. The housemade honey-infused lemonade was great! Fries didn't need salt or dipping sauces (note: I overheard they don't have ranch dressing). And they cooked my steak exactly as ordered. Fantastic they had the right amount of staff to get us lunch - preselected appetizers & salad, choice from 3 entrees, and preselected dessert bites - in about 2 hours. Ambiance is classy casual but could welcome under or overdressed, too. I never enjoy parking downtown - cost and hassle - so I rarely go. It was a mid-week lunch and I found a metered spot about 12 car spaces away - just shy of O Street. I love exploring new eateries but if someone wanted us to dine at Magpie Cafe, I would definitely return. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Came here for Valentine's dinner with my date. We made a reservation for 5:30. Once we arrived, we were greeted and seated right away. They had a Valentine's Day menu. Our server Michael was awesome. He answered all my questions and was very attentive. We ordered the lamb chops and chicken chanterelle. The chicken was super tender. Veggies were cooked perfectly. All the flavors were on point. My date enjoyed his dish. Had an amazing experience here.

Yelp
Kind, attentive staff and delicious fresh food! Our family of four ordered a bunch of small plates and shared. Many dishes were vegetarian/vegan friendly. My favorite was the onion dip that came with the potato chips. Never had I tasted dip so fresh! The fried risotto balls were hot and crispy on the outside and smoky soft on the inside. Freshly fried vegetables were plentiful for all of us to share. Pork belly was nice and crispy. Forest mushrooms in white bean dip was also good along with toasted bread. See pictures!

Yelp
Wow! Magpie was an amazing experience! We were looking for a farm to table restaurant and they had a fantastic menu. I had the Niman Ranch Pork Chop.and it was tender and delicious. The vegetables are procured from local farmers and we had a wonderful dish with a medley of broccoli, beets, turnips, mushrooms and pumpkins. We also ordered the Roasted Organic Nantes Carrots which were tasty. Our server was friendly and provided great customer service. The restaurant had an open kitchen and I like seeing the chefs preparing the dishes. The bar was cool with the selection on libations intertwined with books on a shelf. We look forward to returning to try more dishes:)

Yelp
I was a little apprehensive when I saw the prices, but although Magpie is definitely on the expensive side, I can confirm it's still worth a visit. We accidentally stumbled in on a week where they were running a three course special, so we let that guide our choices. I had the toasted quinoa and greens salad, which was wonderfully nutty with a tart finish from the vinegrette. It also came with a side of fluffy, just-toasted bread and hummus, both of which were delicious. The main course was salmon with potatoes, carrots, and a light sauce. They crisped the salmon skin PERFECTLY, and the fish itself was still moist and flaky. Fried squash was the side I chose, and it was sweet with a light tempura batter - so good. The only let down was the dessert. I got the lemon curd, which was unpleasantly grainy although the flavor was nice. The ambiance is great too, moody with some candle-esque lighting. Our waiter was polite and helpful, and the food was brought out pretty quickly after the orders went in. I'd definitely return for a date night some time!

Yelp
One of the best meals I've had in a while! Cute atmosphere, great service, interesting flavors. And inventive cocktails! My favorites in order: Anchovy toast Lamb meatballs Arancine (tasted exactly like paella) Steelhead trout Brussels sprouts Delicata squash The bill was super reasonable, too. I would love to come back!
google avatar

Yelp
The food was SO amazing that I came back within 3 days! This place is TOP NOTCH! I highly recommend you give them a try. Special thanks to Andrew, Marie, and Ariel!

Yelp
I can easily say that I'd reorder everything I had during my visit. For the table, we shared the fried broccolini and yams as well as the hummus and fresh baked bread. We all fought for the last pieces of both! The veggies specifically had a black sesame sauce and it brought some fun and fresh flavor to the dish. I enjoyed the cheeseburger. My favorite part was the jammy roasted tomato that they put on the burger instead of a standard sliced tomato. We also shared the avocado and chocolate mousse for dessert. I would say it was more of a ganache, but so great! Overall, I'm happy we tried them out and wish I had something like this restaurant closer to home.

Yelp
Our group had an early dinner here, sitting down to dine immediately to an almost empty dining room. We ordered several appetizers and several entrees which we all planned to share. Overall, our food was good but service was somewhat spotty. The wine ordered was also good. We all enjoyed the quality food and innovative menu.

Yelp
Very beautiful restaurant with farm to table dishes. We had the filet, chicken, and vegetables with the chips and crudo appetizers. Food was beyond flavorful. The best chicken we have ever had. Seasonal roasted vegetables were prepared to perfection. The filet left me wanting more. Food was in line with the economy but worth every penny. I was told that their menu changes often. I can't wait to come back and see a different menu every time.

Yelp
Haven't been in a long time so happy to meet my friend for dinner last night. The atmosphere is always so cozy and classy without feeling uptight. Staff are incredibly friendly and knowledgeable of the menu. When someone asks what is the quintessential restaurant that describes Sacramento, I say Magpie Cafe. It's farm to fork, it's local, it's seasonal, sustainable, uses thoughtful and high quality ingredients, and it's creative. The menu rotates and I'm always excited to see what's on it. I got their Duck Confit w/ cabbage pancake and it was nothing what expected. It reminded me of a German potato pancake. The duck was delicious and paired well with the cabbage pancake and Fuji apple slices. But the highlight of the night was the anchovy toast appetizer which is seriously two bites of heaven. I could eat 10 of them! Overall it was a wonderful evening and will be back very soon!

Yelp
Came here for dinner date the restaurant was pretty crowded. It was low lights and kind of dark very nice for a date night. The server was very professional and informative. We ordered plenty and shared it. The drinks were delicious. The food came on time and they all tasted really great. They have unique names and how they describe their food. I was very happy to, finally get to try this restaurant

Yelp
Magpie Cafe is located on 16th & P street. It is the cutest cafe for any lunch date. I visited on a Sunday for a late lunch/early dinner with my boyfriend. The price range for many items is $25-45. Some items were more pricey than expected but the ingredients are also great quality and very fresh. They bring all the freshest ingredients to your dinner table. What we ordered: * The Steelhead trout($36); it had such great crisp skin. I typically do not like to eat the skin of any fish but this one was different. I ate it all! It was cooked to perfection and perfectly paired with potatoes. Next time I order this I will probably order the sauce it comes with on the side, it is a buerre blanc. Eating a lot of it was a little overpowering for my taste. * Niman Ranch Pork Chops ($42); It was amazing! The fruit compote and creamy polenta with the pork chop is a different twist but definitely a well balanced and delicious combination. *Farmers Friend ($14) *Port of Rye ($12) -their cocktail menu truly represents freshness and quality ingredients just like their food items. Over all rating is a solid 4.

Yelp
Delicious - kind service, beautifully seasoned food using farm fresh seasonal produce on their seasonal menus. I love how they offer so many delicious food, something perfect for anyone, and the quality is phenomenal. You can tell the love, dedication, and passion that goes into making these dishes. Kindhearted, knowledgeable, professional, and friendly staff service here. Thank you everyone for making our day special -- I appreciate everyone!

Yelp
This place definitely catches your eye if you're walking around due to is really nice curb appeal. I would say, the menu is extremely over priced for the portion sizes that are offered. This place is also very designed to one specific palate and I don't believe a majority of people would be able to find something to eat. I had the winter BLT which had everything I knew would be a "safe" option for me. The bacon was perfect! The only downer was the sandwich was incredibly hard and dry. My friends got the house made pasta and they both enjoyed it but the portion didn't feel fulfilling. All in all the service was okay everyone seemed kind but we waited a bit for our food along with our check our waitress did however keep our glasses filled with water. Overall not a bad experience but I don't think I would come again due to the price and less variety.
google avatar

Jing L.

Yelp
Came here for dinner. It was an enjoyable experience. Food was amazing, we split all of the dishes we ordered and everything was perfect. The hummus and olive oil with bread and the scallops were excellent, the pesto pasta was light and wasn't too heavy, salad was refreshing, and the pork chop was delicious. The server was attentive and patient. The restaurant had a very nice vibe for midtown.

Yelp
Overall? 5/5, really quality dishes with fresh ingredients that boast farm to table every bite. Sizable portions combine with reasonable prices to create a memorable dining experience Parking? Street We had: Anchovy Toastette: 5/5, worth every bit of the $2.50. Get 3 Chicken For Sharing: 5/5, whole chicken perfectly cooked with two side plates of vegetables. We shared this between 4 adults NY Steak: 4.5/5, good flavor, asked for mid rare and it could have been slightly on the rarer side but otherwise a great selection. They don't skimp on the portion either Avocado Salmon Toast: 5/5, once again a sizable serving of salmon with avocado with a ton of veggies on top

Yelp
This is an awesome spot in a great location, right off the corner of 16th and P. We were able to find seating pretty quickly for a party of 8. Service was great. We got some wonderful recommendations. The trout and pasta were tasty. The espresso martini however was a little off, it may have had too much cream. The portion sizes are also fairly small and prices are a little high. Item prices range from 25-45. The food quality however is great.

Yelp
Finally made it to Magpie after moving here four years ago. Why didn't I come sooner! We had an amazing meal. Came with friends, got one main and a few small plates and had a feast! The chicken was to die for. We sat outside under the twinkle lights. Lovely area, great for people watching or potentially a romantic dinner. Service was excellent. Can't wait to go back and try more things.

Yelp
They open from 12-9, love it because on our way to Tahoe we can pop in at 4pm for an early dinner and enjoy some quiet ambiance. The place is smelled casual elegance with a bar on the right along the wall and plenty of seating tables to the left. Black tables with bright flowers on each of them. Beautiful yet casual. Service was warm and welcoming. Our waitress was polite and helpful, with a little bit of chatter in between and quick to her feet when we asked for help. I chose Magpie because of its creative menu and on it we chose the house made pasta with duck and Japanese pumpkins. It came out a bit different from what I was expecting, especially the long twin noodle shape pasta and how the pumpkin was cut and roasted to a soft but more moist texture, but it tasted good. Fried Brussels sprouts could not go wrong. The steak and fries is a big dish. The steaks are cut already, it's more like a medium while I asked for medium rare but the crust has good seasoning and the meat is juicy and tender. It also comes with a huge pile of fries. The cheese board was a bit disappointing for the kid as the bread was too hard and crunchy for the teeth. The quince paste is the best part as it brings out the sweetness to balance out the slightly bitter aftertaste from the Brie. The orange slices are also a good mix. But we are not dried fruit fans, so maybe next time we should check on the type of bread before ordering. The cidar beer is also delicious. All in all a great stop! I saw our neighbor table ordered the dungeonese crab and shrimp salad, it's a huge bowl and looks delicious. I think it can't go wrong either.

Yelp
We love this spot in Midtown, Sacramento. Its a true veggie paradise, as you can always get fresh local veggies with great pairings and sauces. I think it's nice when you can find a nice restaurant that has a variety of fresh, from the Earth food options. And to that point, mostly those options. It's a good break up from most restaurants who focus on meat and processed/fried options first. We loved the crudo, as it was a nice balance with the citrus and oil. The carpaccio was also amazing with the bread that was firm but not break your teeth hard. Wine list is great, middle of the road to not break the bank but some delicious choices. We went with the CA Pinot and were not disappointed. We've enjoyed brunch here too, also a great option! You must go if you haven't and my review sounds up your alley.

Yelp
My favorite restaurant in Sac. I've been here 5 times and the food has been delicious every time. I recommend ordering multiple small plates rather than an entree to be able to sample everything. The pork belly is amazing, a must try. The drinks are creative, the place has an upscale vibe without exorbitant prices and the waitstaff are attentive. Will keep coming back
google avatar

Yelp
Marie provided excellent service recommending Wednesday special of complimentary vegetable appetizer with purchase of a bottle of wine. Tempura vegetables were delectable dipped in black sesame sauce. Stampede Zinfandel from Haarmeyer Winery in West Sacramento was perfect pairing with vegetables and fresh pig special Chicharrones.

Yelp
Fresh, seasonal, interesting menu and charming decor. Everything was tasty. Perfect place to celebrate Mothers Day. We'll definitely be back.

Yelp
My partner and I live around the corner and wanted to try a new restaurant. Service was quick as far as getting inside and our waitress was super friendly and knowledgeable. When it came to the food... I wasn't expecting what we got - a truly scrumptious burger like nobody's business! We also got a pineapple bread pudding that we have yet to talk about. I'll add that later! Come by and check it out -it's really great.

Yelp
This place was as good as always. This time we tried the chicken for sharing and it was perfectly cooked and tasted so good. I liked the cooked vegetables it came with and I was dipping them all in the chicken au jus. The service here is always good and they usually aren't busy during the day (surprisingly) so it is always easy to get a table. Very nice ambiance whether you are indoors or outdoors.

Yelp
I've walked by Magpie countless times and finally had the opportunity to dine there! I visited on a Sunday evening in September 2024. I ordered: - French fries (10/10) - Cheese board (10/10) - Farm salad (10/10) My friend ordered: - Vegetable & hummus bowl (7/10) - Jamaica-hibiscus agua fresca (5/10) Pros: - Prompt and friendly service with helpful recommendations - Inside felt very rustic and trendy - It was not crowded - The food was SO GOOD, I'm considering getting the farm salad again for lunch tomorrow Cons: - Portion sizes are a bit small for the amount they charge for (definitely more of a "splurge" restaurant for me personally) - No gluten-free bread/cracker options (for my friend)

Yelp
Wow...such a nice, yummy, and healthy selection of farm to fork section in their appetizer menu. We regret we haven't been here before. Their burger, meatballs, kale and beets appetizer were amazing. Well come back!

Holly Q.

Yelp
Burgers come medium rare unless you tell them how you prefer cooked. Just fyi. I found out once it was too late. Oops fries were good at least.

Yelp
It has been many years since I've dined at Magpie and I was due to return. We came early, so it wasn't busy inside. I don't usually drink, but I ordered a cranberry gin fizz. It was fruity with a frothy top. We started with an arancini. It was creamy and crispy. Then we had the roasted beet panzanella. We enjoyed it a lot. There were slices of crispy beets along with chunks of sweet beets. They went well with the Burrata and feta cheese. Our main dish was the strozzaprete with duck and red kuri squash. Strozzapreti is a type of pasta. The squash was hearty, and I felt like I didn't even need the duck. We also ordered an avocado salmon toast as well, but I was too full at that point. Service was great. The owner/chef? came by to check in on us. He also stopped by toward the end of the meal and gave us a container of quince paste- sweet! Hopefully it won't be long until we come back again!

Yelp
I like Magpie Cafe. I met my Time Left group there for dinner and I was very happy with my meal. I had the pork chop and it was very good. Others wanted to do sharables but with this being my first time at Magpie I wanted to savor my dinner choice without having to take little consumptions. The restaurant was a bit small. We were to have 6 to our table but ended up with 8. Magpie was quick to accommodate and we still sat comfortably. I really enjoyed my dinner and the ambiance. I will definitely eat there again but with a more intimate group.
google avatar

Yelp
We got here pretty late but was still seated and treated well. Our server was on his furst day of training and did an excellent job of checking in on us and making accommodations for us. We had the ceviche, which was nice needed more salt tho. Absolutely appreciated the server splitting our ceviche in 2 bowls so it'd be easier to eat. Beef tartare was nice too. I've had better but it was my friends first time and he thoroughly enjoyed it. I thought it was texture was just perfect and went perfectly with the condiments Homeless folks sat in front of our table as we ate dinner which I wasn't a fan of; I'm from the northeast and it isn't normal to hv homeless folks talking to themselves loudly sit in front of you while you have dinner.

First time at Magpie! I really loved how elegant the inside felt and still feeling comfortable in my t-shirt as I just left the Jesus Revival at the State Capital. It was so nice to be with childhood friends talk catch up and have lots of choices of food to choose from. Prices are very well not super expensive and a variety of items to satisfy your pallet. Service was great nice waitress no over asking if you needed anything but brought out my delicious salad not forgetting that I said later after I gave it some thought I would know what kind of tea I would like. I honestly forgot all about it so I was glad when she came back and asked me what kind of decided on. I went with the green tea. It was so nice. It was kind of chilly outside and the salad was so great. I have not had grapefruit and such a long time. The shrimp was little and very tasty. The vinaigrette used on the salad was absolutely delicious and I loved how big the salad bowl was. It was just so nice and refreshing to eat such a great salad. The salad was a 10 out of 10.

Yelp
Excellent food and friendly service. As a party of four, we were able to try several dishes. Everything was so delicious. The anchovy toast was such a welcome surprise. I can't get over how much I loved it. The flavors were so unexpected. I'm going to be thinking about that one for a bit. The steak tar tar was an A+. The cheese plate and uni toast were incredibly refreshing. The scallops combined with the leeks was my favorite. We will be back

Yelp
Came here for dinner with a few coworkers on a Wednesday evening. Ordered a couple appetizers to share - hummus with bread, scallop crudo, trout dip with house made chips. The scallop crudo was beautifully plated with vibrant colors of the citrus. Then for the entrees, we got lamb chops, steak, and the ocean trout. I really enjoyed the crispy skin of the ocean trout and moistness of the fish. I tried the strawberry fizz for a drink and it was light and bubbly. Overall, all the food is delicious! The service was pretty quick and our server was super attentive. Prices are reasonable. Cute spot for dinner - I totally recommend!

Yelp
Came here for Father's with the family for a party 6 late Sunday morning. It was pretty busy already, but we were able to get a table that accommodated all of us. It was hard to decide at first because so many things sounded great. Drinks: Spiked ice tea Hibiscus Gin Fizz Food: Appetizer: Pork belly Nimans Steak Pork Chop Quail While chicken & sides Dessert: Ice cream sandwich Food was great, and so was the service. Great Fathers Day experience.

Yelp
Love this place, including the ambience, servers, and food! I have serve food allergies and am plant based/vegan/vegetarian. Upon informing them, they were able to help by answering questions, and having me write down all my allergies (I used to have a card with them and I used to have one and should do it again). Not all people or places even understand food allergies, or accommodate, food allergies (second is ok, but the first is not as it can be deadly). The servers were great and food was amazing, seasonal and local (farm to fork), creative, and delicious! The only real negatives: 1) I can see that it can be loud or a bit packed, although it wasn't while we were there. I mask but took it off while we ate and we were incredibly spaced out! 2) the parking (not much and you have to pay by meter), so plan ahead! Hope that you have a beautiful day filled with light and love, and find a place that will fill your soul and fit your palate!

Yelp
Magpie is top tier Sacramento dining!! The food is inventive and local. I've had so many great dishes there - from fresh, bright crudo to delectable, comforting chicken and so much more. The service and ambiance are just the right balance of fine dining and casual, and they have a cute patio facing the park for when it's nice out. The wine list is interesting and affordable. It's really a perfect spot for an any time dinner and we often take out-of-town guests here, who have all given rave reviews. The only reason for the 1 docked star is that I've now had 2 main dishes there on 2 separate occasions that were WAY too sweet. It was the lamb more recently and the quail previously. You can tell they are using some really interesting flavors, however the sweetness was just utterly overpowering in both cases. I usually love extra sauce, but this is a rare situation where I wanted less. Maybe there is a chef there whose palate just does not agree with mine, but everything else on their menu has been excellent, and I really can't imagine anyone actually enjoying when a main course is _that_ sweet, so perhaps there's some issue with consistency. I hope this doesn't become a common occurrence because as mentioned, we adore this place otherwise!

Yelp
Magpie cafe had an awesome menu for Dine Downtown Sacramento. We enjoyed a couple of delicious cocktails and three tasty courses. The house made chips and onion dip was a bonus course! The salad was refreshing, and the braised beef was tender and flavorful. Dessert was a choice of chocolate avocado mousse and persimmon custard. They both sounded amazing, so we ordered one of each. Great service. Comfortable atmosphere. Can't wait to go back for another date night!

Yelp
I had such a great experience at Magpie! The food was amazing, the drinks were even better, and the staff really made the experience. Our waiter Dorian really took care of us, and giggled along with us for our whole meal. We will be coming back!
