Maison Bar À Vins - Review - Adams Morgan - Washington DC - The Infatuation

"The team behindPascual,Lapis, andLutécehas opened a newFrenchspot inAdams Morgan. Given their track record, it’s likely one worth getting excited about. Brasserie Pascual focuses on natural wines and a menu that ranges from housemade pastas to eel croquettes and brioche-stuffed chicken." - Omnia Saed

So tasty! Here are is what we ordered in the order of how much we liked the dish: 1) lamb tartare, doesn’t taste gamey at all. Fave tartare we had in a while (and we were in Montreal recently) 2) fig leaf choux bun, loved the pastry and the fig ice cream and coconut caramel was so delivious! 3) monk fish. Perfectly cooked, so buttery, crispy capers and croutons 4) smoked eel croquette. You could have told me this was smoked white fish and I would have believed you. Not especially special. 5) escargot - truffles and mushroom. TBH I didn’t love the scroll pastry, although it was beautiful. Tastes cheap and basic? Kind of like a deconstructed Trader Joe’s frozen appetizer. I dunno. Service was great and super attentive. Even though we were there during their soft opening, their dining room was empty for most of our meal. It is a small space though.

Sublime cuisine. Everything we had was delicious. We had scallop crudo, country terrine, chicken stuffed with brioche and grilled tuna. Each dish was distinct and delicate. The atmosphere transports you to a Parisian home. Definitely a place to explore.

We visited Maison this evening and, unfortunately, it was a bit disappointing. We arrived as walk-ins and were told seats at the bar would open soon, but it ended up taking over an hour, and people who arrived after us were seated first. The staff was friendly but seemed green and unfamiliar with the menu, though we understand they only just opened. What really threw off the experience was an incredibly drunk woman at the bar next to us who was loud, disruptive, and bothering other guests before nearly falling asleep, yet staff continued to serve her drinks and didn’t seem to know how to handle the situation. For a wine bar, the wine list felt surprisingly short. And while the space itself is really beautiful, the food didn’t quite live up to our expectations—the oysters were tiny, the eel croquettes had only a small piece of eel on top with mostly béchamel inside, and the scallop crudo was served a bit too warm. We were especially hoping for something closer to their sister restaurant Lutèce, which we absolutely love for its unique flavors and thoughtful dishes. We’d be open to trying Maison again once they’ve had more time to settle in, but overall this first impression wasn’t the strongest.

Fantastic experience at Maison Bar à Vins. Patrick provided excellent service with spot-on wine recommendations (loved the Viura and Cab Franc). The brioche-stuffed chicken and eel croquettes were standout dishes. Cozy, welcoming atmosphere that feels like dining in someone’s home. I also love the attention of details that go into the place. From the homey feelings of the place, the logo in the wine glasses and the bathroom sink! It just shows they went the extra mile in crafting the place. For now they only have first floor opens, they have plans for second floor as a dining space in the future and third floor for special events. Highly recommend!

Here are is what we ordered after initial drinks - def get the gin martini - incredible bleu cheese olives and great selection of orange wine from Italy and France 1) lamb tartare, doesn’t taste gamey at all - incredible bread wish I had more 2) oysters - skip, absolutely disgusting 3) monk fish. Perfectly cooked, so buttery, crispy capers and croutons - best dish of the night 4) smoked eel croquette. Not bad not great excellent smoke 5) scallops - excellent Peruvian take 6) bread and butter - great French execution a can't miss Service was great and super attentive. Shout out to Ronnie for taking care of us. Bathroom downstairs is gorgeous- Le Labo products to boot
