NYC Restaurant Maison Nur Is a Clubstaurant With Good Food | Eater NY

"Opulent from the moment you slip through plush curtains, this Lower East Side newcomer subverts the clubstaurant stereotype with house and electronic playlists kept at a perfect, conversation-friendly volume, Damien Hirst butterfly mandalas, a zebra-striped rug, a curved copper ceiling, and flower-laden green mohair banquettes—though, yes, I did spot a couple making out two tables over. Nur Khan often hangs at the bar, and the excellent cocktail program from Charlotte Voisey proves it: we started at the bar with my companion’s Coupe de Grace (Hendrick’s gin, soju, lychee, elderflower), super‑floral and delightful, while my Pillow Talk—basically a cognac Manhattan with rosé vermouth—carried lovely vanilla notes; after dinner we each had a Smoke Show, a torch‑smoked tequila‑mezcal drink evoking a Mexican temazcal that Khan calls his “baby.” The wine list isn’t expansive but it’s interesting; a sommelier‑recommended Schioppettino hit the spot, and a fantastic Sauternes paired beautifully with dessert. Richard Farnabe’s French American cooking aims to bring Upper East Side polish downtown: starters leaned more clever than craveable (a beautiful‑but‑okay tuna tartare and a creative mushroom–foie gras–artichoke mille‑feuille whose flavors didn’t fully mesh), but the entrees soared—the madai sea bream was perfectly grilled with crisp skin over a saffron‑punchy bouillabaisse sauce, and the Colorado rack of lamb arrived crowned with meltingly tender shredded shoulder, bone marrow bordelaise, and a crispy maitake for texture. Don’t skip dessert: the Paris‑Brest eats like beignets stuffed with popcorn‑praline cream and topped with candied popcorn, especially good with Sauternes, and anything with caviar tends to be a winner. With a planned downstairs lounge boasting a separate entrance, custom sound, and setup for DJs and live music, I might not bring my septuagenarian parents, but for striking the balance between scene‑y and refined, this place largely nails it." - Justin Goldman

NYC’s New Restaurant Openings - New York - The Infatuation

"At Maison Nur, from veteran nightlife operator who is also behind No. 79, organic house music meets Petrossian caviar and mohair banquets. Under a gilded ceiling, the Lower East Side restaurant is serving French-American food along the lines of dover sole, steak au poivre, and stuffed morels with vin jaune. The best thing I can say about this place as a restaurant/ lounge/club is it very pretty. It looks very elegant and is expensive. Sometimes we pick a restaurant we've never heard of because it's convenient. Maison Nur had good reviews on Google and it was very close to Dixon Place where we were seeing a show. I thought it was weird that they have four white wines by the glass but they were out of three of them. Surely they could have cracked open another alternative bottle of wine and so you could at least have a choice between two . The service was earnest but not well trained. Simple things like resetting for the next course was oddly handled. Having worked so long in the restaurant business I really don't care for the stuffiness of silent waiters standing at attention but there's also something about service staff not paying attention because they're chatting with each other when there's only one table in the restaurant. The food is also pretty but I found some of it not well executed considering there's supposed to be a Michelin star chef? I send my duck back twice. First it was overcooked, then it was almost raw. When it finally came back, it was better, but the skin was flabby. Also, there was an intriguing sounding scallop of potatoes with layers of duck confit that failed. It was dry and overcooked on the bottom so you can barely cut through it with a knife and the duck confit was matted together. There was some sort of sausage that I didn't care for. The sauce on the duck was good. The pasta wrapped cheese was definitely striking looking. We chose to get it without the add-on of truffles or caviar. It was tasty but really needed grind of pepper which is not offered. The gem lettuce salad with peanut dressing was very dramatic but not good. There was a smear of what appeared to be peanut butter on the plate with the lettuce on top, and a passable vinaigrette and then a lot of herbs. It wasn't a coherent dish. The crust on the tuna tart tasted like a giant oyster cracker as in it really didn't have any flavor and it didn't stand up to the moistness of what was under the tuna. So it was crunchy in places but it was also soggy and chewy. Not awful, but it could have been so much better. The chocolate dessert was probably one of the best things. I have never seen chervil on a dessert. It made for a compelling presentation and it didn't detract from the dish.

I was really impressed with this place! The atmosphere was nice: fancy, but not too stuffy. The staff were all super friendly, too. But the standout was definitely the food!! The dishes were all amazing and so pretty. You can tell a lot of heart was put into each dish. The dover sole is definitely a must try, and the tuna tartare was great (has wasabi on it). Don't skip the dessert, either, they're really cute! Good for a date or with friends.

Came here for drinks with friend, super cool ambiance with multiple floors. One more of a rave vibe and others are more clubby nice variety for sure. Really beautiful set up with a good amount of room for both dancing and socializing. Would love to see them host an r&b or hip hop night in one of the smaller rooms

Not cheap but the atmosphere is top notch, the decor is amazing and the people watching doesn't get better. The food is good, not out of this world but certainly solid. The drinks are great, not overly imaginative but executed very well.

Google
This place is amazing. It’s like the best of NYC from all the best eras of downtown New York combined into one. I went with my girlfriend for dinner and drinks. First thing we noticed the staff was super friendly and made us feel at home. I love art and the entire main dining room is built around a massive Damien Hirst. Not expecting this in a restaurant but very happily surprised. Also, tables were spaced far enough apart to have privacy and elbow room. We had the duck and lamb that were two of the best dishes I’ve ever had. Flavor combos that were unexpected but not so crazy that it was unfamiliar. Honestly, nothing I can say to make this place better. The bar filled up with what looked like all the cool kids while we ate and by the time we finished eating some new friend invited us downstairs and…what happens in the jungle room stays I. The jungle room I’ll say no more other than it has leopard print stairs.

This was my first time here and I can't wait to go back. The chic style complements the intimate setting. Maison Nur leans into a lounge dining experience with exceptional bites. A great option to oversized restaurants. The menu is genius, offering some great staple options like the parmesan wrapped spaghetti, the toro tartare, and steak. The seafood, the turbot and snapper, were stellar. The desserts are where the menu's creativity is on display. There was nothing standard about the options. The chocolate bomb was exceptional, and the squash ice cream with panna cotta was delightful, refreshing, and tasteful. I heard the menu has changed since opening, so maybe some of the choices are seasonal. I'm looking forward to exploring Chef's new creations. The staff was very friendly. Some of the waitstaff could be a bit more attentive to where tables are in their courses and their needs

We went as a group of close girlfriends who wanted to spend time and wear our best outfits for each other. It happens to be the food stole the show. We ordered 4 appetizers for a group of 4 and one was better than the next. Innovative mix of the freshest fish and vegetables presented as art. The entrees were succulent and delish. We had steak 2 different kinda of fish. The dessert was very interesting chestnut tart and a very delicious chocolate ball filled with texture and flavor. I definitely will bring husband back for a special date night. Ps the service was top notch I felt like I was at a Michelin star in France. Yes it that good. The decor is elegant romantic and perfect for NYC the architecture you would expect from a top notch interior designer. If you drive in after 7 theres free parking on the street just drive around the block.

Yelp
Had dinner with a few girlfriends and had an absolute blast! The staff is welcoming, and the ambiance is perfect for great conversation. The real star of the evening was the food, really creative and exciting flavors. Highly recommend coming here if you're looking to treat yourself to a special night out!

Yelp
Had dinner here with a few friends and had a great time. Enjoyed the ambiance for a nice, intimate dinner. There was a decent crowd which was nice to keep it lively was never overwhelming which made it easy to have a nice dinner and catch up. The food was the highlight for sure. For apps we got the tuna tartare (delicious) and baby gem lettuce (sleeper pick that surprised us). For entrees we got madai, lamb, and duck which we enjoyed - especially the duck which a lot of times ppl fuck up. For dessert we got chocolate bomb and paris brest which might have been my favorite part of the meal. Would come again!

Yelp
The food was great, but the service was a disaster. We arrived right on time for a 7:45 PM reservation Friday night. We were a group of four, two couples. We were sat down, had a round of one cocktail each, ordered some appetizers to share and some mains and one bottle of wine. Everything was going great, the food was really interesting and inventive. The service seemed a little slow, but we didn't mind we were having a nice time. We had just finished our main courses and we were thinking about ordering some dessert when the problem happened. The staff came and told us that we had to leave. We were like what, what happened? They said it was a two hour time limit on the table and it was 945. We couldn't believe it! I mean, we had been eating promptly just doing a normal nice evening out we were not misbehaving or anything like that. The slowness was really just from their side. We had actually been planning to order some dessert, but we couldn't do that because they told us we had to get off the table. We were halfway through our glasses of wine. They said we could finish our drinks at the bar, but we had to leave the table now. The fact that they treated us like this at the end of a meal really put a taint on the entire evening. It's supposedly a nice French restaurant on a Friday evening, we should be able to just relax and enjoy it without feeling some sort of time pressure to get out within a specific 2 hour limit. It's symptomatic something at the heart of the problem with some restaurants that they are over commercialized and they sacrifice the experience for the sake of getting people in and out quickly like we are just cattle. I mean, if you really want to encourage people to free up the table, there are nicer ways to do it. First of all you could give a warning about the two hour limit at the beginning. I've been to places where they tell you the table must be free by a certain time and I've always been Totally fine if they tell me that and then we could plan for it, but they gave us absolutely no warning about it this time. Secondly, if you do need to move people, they could've done that in a nice way too. They could've helped to arrange a nice spot off to the side somewhere for us and settle us in. they did nothing like that. They just said you're on your own. see if you can find something at the bar, but you have to get off the table now. I feel really bad for the kitchen staff because they did a great job making some really interesting, creative and delicious food. But the overall experience was undermined by the way we were treated at the end. We all would never go back there.

Yelp
Soooo the ambiance is nice, small intimate place. The drinks came out very slow! Order 2 at a time! Buttt they were good. The food, also very slow. Apps were good though. Entree's ugh. Disappointing. The lamb was very gamey. The Dover sole was bland. The steak was decent. I wouldn't come back again. Update! After I left this review from the table, we saw a mouse! Anddd then went to the bathroom before leaving. The lights went out smh. This place needs to get it together immediately.

Yelp
The staff were kind, but almost every dish we ordered was not available! My friend's hair also caught on fire at the front.

Adrina V.

Yelp
If you're into being treated rudely, this is your spot. Not sure if the staff here is trained to act like that or if they all just woke up with bad energy (especially the host). The food might've been fine, but it's hard to enjoy anything when the service makes you feel like you're an inconvenience. Yes, flash was used in this photo. This was a birthday celebration. Ruined.

Yelp
I visited after a recommendation from my hotel. The food was fine and the service was really good, but there was no atmosphere or music. Overall, it felt like a pretty ordinary place, not ideal if you're looking for a lively or special experience.

Yelp
Maison Nur has a very unique and eclectic interior design that immediately catches your eye. We were greeted by a warm and welcoming maître d', and even without a reservation, he kindly seated us at a great table within 10 minutes. I ordered the trout, which was fresh, light, and healthy - it was perfectly prepared, and the seasoning was spot on. Overall, the experience exceeded my expectations. I'd highly recommend Maison Nur for a date night, special occasion, or even a casual dinner with friends. The vibe is stylish, lively, and distinctly New York trendy.

Yelp
Yes we had a late seating, but to arrive at a restaurant and be told that they are out of most of the menu leaving our party of 3 to have to all order steak au poivre! Also out of bread and butter that they already have to charge for - how is a French restaurant out of bread and butter? A gem lettuce appetizer had more herb garnish ( not mentioned) than gem lettuce and one slice of avocado - did they also run out of gem lettuce. Perhaps they should rethink the name - perhaps Maison Non instead of Maison Nur! Do not go here and waste your money. By booking through Resy they have a $50 cancellation fees in less than 24 hours - we would have liked the option to have left when we sat down and were informed that the vertices menu was non-existent.

Yelp
A simple restaurant for simple people .the bartender is moving slower than my grandma and she's been dead for ten years . Food was meh , service bad , decor is tacky .
