I had heard a lot about this restaurant and decided to try it out during a recent family lunch. We made a reservation and ordered several dishes. Here’s my take on the experience:
1. Dimsum Trio (4.5/5):** The lobster crystal dumpling was fresh and flavorful, with a thin skin. The siew mai was delicious, and the yam scallop was perfectly prepared. A great combination overall.
2. Fresh Prawn Dumpling (4/5):** One of the largest har gao I’ve ever had. The prawn was fresh, and the skin wasn’t too thick, but the skin and prawn didn’t blend well, which was a slight letdown.
3. Xiao Long Bao (4.8/5):** Surprisingly good! The XLB was sturdy and slightly larger than usual. The soup inside was sweet and delicious.
4. Radish Cake (3.5/5):** Pretty ordinary. You could taste the fresh radish, but it didn’t stand out in any way.
5. Peking Duck (3.5/5):** Quite disappointing, given the hype. The duck rolls were average, and the sauce was nothing special. The remaining meat was served separately—tender but unremarkable.
6. Seafood Hor Fun (3.5/5):** Another overhyped dish. The gravy was bland, and it lacked wok hei. The seafood was fresh and generous, though. The ikura added a unique sensation when eaten with the gravy.
7. Fried Durian Ice Cream (4.5/5):** Not a fan of fried durian, but it tasted surprisingly good.
Conclusion (4/5): The dimsum was excellent, but for the price, the overall quality didn’t feel top-tier. The Peking duck and hor fun were letdowns. Still, the food was good overall and worth trying.
The service needs improvement. We had to ask for menus, request three times to place our order, and only got tea refills once or twice. The manager even asked us to pay before we finished our meal. On the bright side, Ken, another manager, advised us not to overorder, and a non-local waiter was very friendly. They really need to step up their service to match a premium dining experience.
