Malahat Spirits Adding Cocktails to Miramar Tasting Room - Eater San Diego

"Malahat Spirits Co. is the latest local distillery to expand the offerings at its tasting room to include cocktails as well as samples of its spirits, joining San Diego compatriots You & Yours Distilling Co., Cutwater Spirits, and Henebery Spirits as other craft spirit companies that distill spirits and serve cocktails on site. Opened in 2014 in the Miramar area and co-founded by Tom Bleakley, Tony Grillo, and Ken Lee, the distillery’s flagship products are its rums, including black tea rum, ginger rum, and spiced rum; other releases include vodka, bourbon, and rye whiskey. Consulting on Malahat’s cocktail menu is a team comprised of an alum and a current member of Consortium Holdings (Polite Provisions, Raised by Wolves); formerly of Neighborhood and Soda & Swine, Trevor Bowles helped to create the initial cocktail list for You & Yours while Andrew Cordero is an award-winning barman at Noble Experiment. The cocktails, which will showcase every spirit in the product line, should debut at the distillery by mid-August, at which time the Malahat plans to extend the tasting room’s hours of operation to run Thursday through Sunday." - Candice Woo

I recently experienced the Malahat Spirits distillery tour, and it was nothing short of captivating. The speakeasy ambiance upon entry sets the tone for an intriguing adventure. Navigating through a maze of doors and curtains adds an element of mystery, making the journey to the tasting room quite exciting. The highlight for me was the rum flight, which proved to be a delightful exploration of nuanced flavors. Notably, the rums weren't overly sweet, catering perfectly to my preference for a more balanced and nuanced palate. The attention to detail in crafting these spirits was evident, showcasing the distillery's commitment to quality. To complement the tasting, we indulged in cocktails that were expertly crafted and well-balanced. Each sip was a symphony of flavors, demonstrating the mixologists' skill in creating harmonious blends. The overall experience at Malahat Spirits was a sensory delight, combining a captivating atmosphere, exceptional rum offerings, and masterfully crafted cocktails. Highly recommended for those seeking a unique and memorable distillery tour.

Google
A great hidden gem to explore an up and coming distillery. Went with a group of 9 and reserved the back "room" (it was free to reserve) which was a long wooden table surrounded by casks and barrels with plenty of room to sit and chat with the series of flights and cocktails we ordered. We greatly enjoyed learning a bit about each small batch rum, gin and whiskey, and tried every spirit we could. Very pleasantly surprised by the gins which were both unique (one was flavored with Thai basil/khaffir Lime which was really cool!). We got cocktails both on and off the menu, Dwane was helpful to make sure we got exactly what we wanted based on the flavors we asked for. The prices were really reasonable ($15 for a 5 spirit flight!) And we ended up taking home a few bottles ($35 to $40 for rum and gin). No food served here but they allow you to bring snacks if you want. Also note as a distillery they only can serve what they distill on site for alcohol. Would go back and would recommend

Went to Malahat after work and had a blast! The drinks were delish, reasonably priced, and there are bottles that you can purchase. The manager Lindsay was super friendly and attentive! We had such a good time and stayed past their hours, but they were totally cool about it. They don't have a kitchen yet, so you can bring snacks with you. Will definitely make this our usual spot!! Can't wait to try new seasonal cocktails!!

OMG!! This is the best craft distillery I have ever seen! When we say "craft distillery" we are not talking about someone who buys the liquor and works it. Ken Lee and his team actually make every drop of their rum, vodka, and whiskey. The flavors are not only unique and very clean, but they are so rich. No need to hide" the alcohol. These beverages can be enjoyed neat - and enjoy you will! To top it off, the facility is great! I thought the entrance is on par with Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean. #inlove

Google
ARE YOU KIDDING ME! I’ll preface this review by saying that I don’t even like alcohol. I was just looking for some good rum to soak my fruits in for a Christmas cake. I wanted to find something local + infused . DID I EVER. Loved the speakeasy shipwreck ‘but why’s the rum gone’ vibe this place was giving. & then came the rum flight… I’m converted. You had me at ginger rum*, it went down so incredibly smooth. At room temperature on a hot day- that’s saying something. Also Alex your badass bartender, knew every answer to our questions and then some, was so knowledgeable AND does the embroidery on Malahats thrifted Hawaiian shirt merch 😭 are you kidding me!? Was I just teleported into a different reality, I’m not sure; was that the single best rum I’ve ever put in my mouth- absolutely without a doubt. **special mentions to the *spice rum, *black tea rum, & the *100% rye whisky. 10/10

Google
Don't let the entrance fool you, just find you way through the maze and you will get there! Stopped here to check out the spot and get some tasters. The layout and atmosphere is awesome. You can get six tasters and a shot glass to keep for $15. All the samples amount to one shot, which is all they can serve you at this time. Was great to taste and talk to the employees (and got to meet one of the owners). This actually looks like a fantastic spot to host a private event for work or birthday etc. If you have not been here, definitely come check it out. If you haven't had their spirits, you will quickly become a fan.

Google
Dropped In to do a little rum sampling. Had a great time my party had mixed drinks while I tried the flight of rums. It was an amazing experience. I would highly recommend. It is hard to find but well worth it

Google
Walked in through a pre prohabition smuggling operation. You'll have to see it! Sat through tasting panel of their rye, bourbon, and especially the rum! Fantastic! Very down-to-earth distillers and staff. Purchased a bottle of Spiced Rum for $35. Barrel aged spirits are $65. Glad I went. So will you.

Yelp
Let me just start by saying Dwayne is the best. Malahat is the first distillery I've ever been to, and I gotta tell ya the bar is now set very high. The entrance had an escape room feel to it, and you definitely won't stumble upon this place without any prior knowledge. Seems awesome for business meetings, seeing a friend after a long time, or just taking a load off. Freaking beautiful. We did the whiskey tasting, and the infused tasting. Tons of things to try! If you're going for tasting as much as you can, I recommend trying two different tastings with your friends. This way you can all try everything! There's definitely alot of alcohol to go around. $20 for 5 drinks shots of craft alcohol is crazy worth it. My favorites were the peated whiskey, and the mekong gin. Crazy concoctions, will wake you up for sure! Dwayne was awesome. Great hearing insight from someone who is passionate. He was admittedly a wine type of guy, but knew enough to teach us things. We had tons of questions and tons of weird ideas. I guess he enjoyed how curious we were cause as soon as we'd think of a crazy idea, he'd let us indulge in our crazy ideas. Let me tell ya, this guy is that guy. They bring their art to life! They have a rotating menu and a weekly concoction of sorts. That time was a tabbouleh cocktail! And if you know what Tabbouleh is, you're reading this with a confused look right now. Super refreshing, mine as well be having a salad. Don't let it fool you cause it's got a kick! Couldn't leave without supporting them even more, so I made sure to buy their best seller, the Black Tea Rum. I sip it at home from time to time, and I am cautious on ruining it by messing around myself! This stuff is delicious, and it's got an aroma that is just heavenly.

Yelp
Went recently on a whim. Definitely would have struggled to find the place if not for Google Maps. The parking was assigned to each building from what I saw. Into the door, there is a maze to the left and a more direct path on the right (if it's open). The inside would be what I'd describe as rustic and it was fairly well lit between the bulbs and natural light. They also have a really long table that could handle a fairly large party. The bartender was very flexible with what he could make even though they had run out of some items from a previous event the day prior to my visit with my friend. I had ordered the Secret Garden and the Strawberry Fields. Both drinks were phenominal. Secret Garden's spritz of rose water is not to be taken as a joke as it provides the a perfect olfactory match to the taste of the beverage. It lives up to the description of a botanical paradise. The strawberry fields being a mocktail was more to sober me up and it provided me with a refreshing finisher to the evening.

Yelp
Love love this distillery. Very discreet and a very nice find. Had their flight when I came the first time n fell in love w their whiskeys. This time I came for an Old Fashioned. LOVE.

Yelp
I can see why people love this spot! As with many SD drinking establishments, it's tucked in a random office park. Upon entry, I wasn't sure if I was in the right place despite seeing the sign outside. Enter the maze on the left (or just take the door on the right hand side). High ceilings and barrels await. The lighting and vibes are perfect. The staff was super chilled. Tasty drinks including seasonal holiday options. Their rum and gin were on point.

Yelp
Sooo sad!! We took a road trip down here and 6 hrs later, they're closed! We've tried to call but nobody picked up. Please don't tell us you've closed indefinitely!

Yelp
Enjoy a little sophistication, suspense and surprise? Find your way into Malahat's tasting room and you're in for a treat. We made our way through a neat little maze, for an after-lunch cocktail, and we found the staff to be friendly, helpful, and (perhaps, most importantly) knowledgeable! We tried the bourbon, rye, and even the rum. Our server made us a killer old-fashioned, with their single-malt rye and it was amazing. From the crystal-clear ice cube, to the swirl of orange peel on top... the liquor was smooth, the mix was right, and the atmosphere was fun. I highly recommend checking it out... you can even make a reservation ahead of time on Yelp.

Yelp
I absolutely love this place and will always go out of my way to visit it whenever I come back and visit SD. While still considered fairly young and not so much riding on reputation due to a rich "history" or "heritage" unlike most whiskey distilleries, the unique and fun take on their cocktails and liquor is worth the trek. Don't let the surrounding area deter you -- once you go inside, you'll be pleasantly surprised by the entrance. While they have a fun menu of cocktails that should cater to a large audience, their spinoff on rums and whiskeys is fun and unique, and are plenty tasty to enjoy when prepared neat. I thought that the rums make for excellent to-go gifts that will pleasantly serve as fun party favors. Overall, it's a fun hidden gem in this part of town that I recommend for out-of-towners to make the drive and try out :)

Yelp
So a week later and the bottle is on E! We aren't heavy drinkers during the week but we couldn't wait to sip on this. Mixed exact how Dwayne advised and it's amazing. Can't wait to re-up!
google avatar

Yelp
Showed up on Thursday and Friday April 2024 and it was completely closed. Their online profiles still show it's open but it seems like they have shut down.

Yelp
The place is amazing! We held a private event and everything ran smoothly! They work with you it offers a great special unique experience for you and your guest! It will forever hold a special place in our hearts! And let me tell you their mocktail are amazing as well as their whisky! We tried it all!

Yelp
Oh what a hidden gem! We ordered Winter Solstice, Pecan Rye, Cherry Bomb, Mai-lahat.The place is super kool. The bartender was very knowledgeable & sweet & friendly. Btw, each & every drink was AMAZING!!!!! Dwayne the bartender is an amazing person!!!! Marooned shot & the Saturn drink are not on the menu, but boy oh boy, you should definitely try it.

Yelp
Great stop on my way back to LA from SD. This distillery is in a light industrial complex and once you open the dooor, you'll have a short, themed walk into the main room. I would highly recommend the Malahat flight , which is like 7 or 8 different small shots of things they make there. I was very impressed with their sweet tea rum, and ended up buying a bottle. The bartender/distiller was super friendly and knowledgeable and made a great drink. Give it a try

Yelp
Definitely go if you're in the area! Small local distillery that specializes in rum. Only heard about it through word of mouth but so glad we did! Make sure to make a reservation, otherwise you can only have 1.5 oz of spirits (a tasting flight or a drink). We called ahead (website form isn't as good for same day) and were able to have a reserved spot. It wasn't crowded but let us relax and enjoy our experience. Their spirits are amazing. Easy to sip without being harsh for someone who doesn't often drink spirits straight. Their rum flavors are especially unique! We started with the $15 tasting flight and also had a beautifully crafted tasty cocktail each. Their mai-lahat is a take on a mai tai that was delicious with either their spiced or black tea rum and the spring fling was light but lovely with the other rum. The space itself is incredible! It's a maze to walk through from the entrance to the tasting room that's pirate themed and fun! When you get in there's a great space for a small party (probably 10 max or 30 in the whole place) and then a bar area. No food but I think you can bring your own.

Yelp
Talk about a hidden yet stylish craft distillery nestled among the industrial complex of Sorrento Valley. From the outside, it blends right in with its neighboring businesses that lay adjacent to them. Therefore, it doesn't scream out it's existence to the outside world but walk inside and you'll be greeted with a very pleasant ambiance and warm welcome from the friendly, knowledgeable and attentive staff. The interior has a dim-lit setting and the surrounding wood finishings and vats along the perimeter provide a comfortable atmosphere to sit relax, get comfy on your chair and enjoy your tasty drink. As an additional note, there are circular high top tables and also the standard tables to choose from. The Malahat Sazerac and Manhattan were nicely balanced. I don't prefer sweet drinks so I was very pleased with them. I couldn't decide what my third drink would be so I asked for their recommendation on a drink that's more direct but refreshing....and wow did the bartenders deliver! They mentioned it was an experimental recipe that was recently concocted and much praise goes to the bartenders for that one :) I also ordered the flight to experience the raw flavors of the spirits and I must say, all of them were very good! *A round of applause to Malahat Spirits*
google avatar

Rebecca B.

Yelp
My daughter's school had a gala here and it was so much fun! All the drinks were delicious, but my favorite was the secret garden. We also tried their single malt whiskey and it was so smooth! The place is like a speak easy and the entrance is well staged. The bar tenders were very quick and it was like watching a well rehearsed dance when they made our drinks. I will be going back.
google avatar

Yelp
Family friendly!! I can't remember the gals name but she saw my son was obviously there because mommy brought him and she went down to his level to talk to him and say hello and even offer him a drink (lemonade). I was very pleasantly surprised with how kind she was and I told her thank you so much and she replied "I remember being a kid...of course" I wish I got her name. Brunette lady with glasses, so friendly. I will definitely come back again!

Yelp
Omg! Im so happy we stumble upon this spot. It almost like a secret hidden bar! Its super spacey and the drinks were great. They have an amazing list of cocktails. Cant wait to go back!!

Yelp
What an amazing time! Thank you Ash for sharing your enthusiasm about the spirits with us. You figured out what our tastes were and really made our time special!
google avatar

Kim M.

Yelp
A hidden gem! I can't believe I haven't been here sooner. The ambiance is serene and has a very intimate atmosphere, with really accommodating bartenders. Ash was awesome!!! Very personable and has amazing suggestions. You can clearly tell she knows what she's doing and love what she does. She can get a good read/sense of who you are and prepare drinks in ways she feel you'll love and she does not disappoint! Highly highly recommend! It was our first time coming here and we can't wait to come here again!

Jon G.

Yelp
Ash and Alex are AMAZING bartenders!!! Whatever they are paid is too low, give them way more $$ to keep the bar going!!!!

John M.

Yelp
Went here a couple of weeks ago and forgot to leave a review..great place...awesome staff and the ginger rum is absolute perfection!

Yelp
Awesome spot!! Unique and whimsical vibes combined with fun spirits and talented bartenders make for a guaranteed fun time. Ash was particularly knowledgeable and conversant in so many topics!

Yelp
Drinks so nice I came back twice! Stumbled upon this distillery and it is my new favorite. The taro deck is a MUST try. Great combination of flavors. Super cool atmosphere and very friendly staff. Ash was great!

Yelp
TLDR; cool distillery with tastings and cocktails. Unfortunately, until they figure out licenses, they can only serve 1.5 oz. of spirits per customer per day. Try the different types of rum that they have! This was such a random find on Yelp. We were just looking for a bar, something chill and discovered Malahat Spirits. I've never heard of it before but apparently they've been in operation for a couple of years already. Getting in is kind of a maze, it's set up with these narrow hallways and covered entry ways but it was fun. Got us in speakeasy vibe. Since we made a reservation, the worker told us to choose anywhere to sit, even the long banquet hall table. We picked that so we were secluded from the rest of the crowds. I ordered the Stone's Gold, which was made with the Ginger Rum. I thought it was pretty good, you could really taste the ginger and honey. It wasn't overly sweet, but if you're not a fan of honey, then you might not like this drink. I was also able to try some of my friend's tasters. With each different spirit, the worker came and talked about it and the whole process it went through. My favorites were the different rums that they had, especially the black tea and spiced rums. If you wanted to buy a bottle, I believe it was about $35 for one. Can't wait for them to figure out their alcohol licenses so people can order more than one drink a day. I feel like their cocktails would be really unique especially with the black tea and ginger rums.

Yelp
Amazing cocktails! My friend & I came here last month, then I took my boyfriend this month, I am hooked! Located in the business district of Miramar. They have a small seating area of 2 tables out back where you can enjoy your drinks. You must purchase food in order to drink. My boyfriend & I shared the Short Rib dish, delicious! Friendly bartenders, great atmosphere, & cocktails that will make you coming back for more! They have 9 cocktails & I have enjoyed their 6 Shaken/Refreshing ones, all were delicious & strong! My favorite is their John Daley, I highly recommend! Due to the 2nd Stay At Home, I missed the JD so much, I went to BevMo to get their Rum to make it at home. They are currently still open for bottle pick up so buy 1 or a few bottles!

Yelp
Malahat Spirits is a great little beverage experience in brewery central. As a novice at best in terms of Booze-studies, I have to keep my review to the customer experience and the drinks I ordered. To cut to the chase, both were good. The parking lot and storefront are a bit lacking in terms of ceremony, but the adventurous entrance more than makes up for it. Once inside, there is a neat vibe that very intentionally harkens back to the speak-easy barrel rooms of yesteryear. I found the staff to be super friendly, knowledgable to an extent that exceeded my capabilities (by a lot) and craft that was amongst the best I have experienced in San Diego. I am FAR from a booze-snob, but I found the drinks I ordered to be dead on for my taste. Which I would chalk up to the person tending bar's ability to translate my input and their craft into a great beverage... for me. My only knock on Malahat would be the seating setup. The venue is not made to lounge around, which IMHO would pair better with their beverages. In closing. Malahat is quite good and I would happily recommend it anyone looking for a break from the aroma of a brewers tasting room and/or in pursuit of an expertly crafted beverage.
google avatar

Jason L.

Yelp
I'll get to the booze in a second. First thing's first: the entrance is akin to the line for Indiana Jones at Disneyland; just with a decidedly more rum runner vibe. Jamaica Jones, perhaps? Went for the tasting flight and thoroughly enjoyed all 6. We let them choose and weren't disappointed. We had: vodka, bourbon, Cabernet rum, black tea rum, ginger rum and spiced rum. Although they can only legally pour a certain amount, I feel like it was heavy enough to slur your speech and wobble your walk. After finishing, they hooked us up with a free taster of peanut whiskey which was awesome. Friendly staff, cool vibe and boozetastic. Go here.
google avatar

Robin P.

Yelp
I made reservations to this place. When you make a reservation they will give you a "private table" and you can order multiple drinks. If you don't get reservations then I think you are limited to either a flight of tasters or a cocktail. The cocktails are very yummy. We also bought a few bottles to take home. My favorite was the ginger rum.
google avatar

Kristen G.

Yelp
Great whiskey, and an amazing spiced rum that's not your typical captain Morgan style. Super friendly and knowledgeable bartender.
google avatar

Zildheam D.

Yelp
I cannot believe i waited so long to come here! This is such a unique experience, the guys who work here really know their stuff, they have passion, talent and are very dedicated to their craft. My favorite of all was the ginger rum, i purchased a bottle to bring home and they were nice enough to even hand write the recipe for me! Worth every cent of my stupid expensive uber ride, i will visit again. Five stars, a million stars - take your rum loving friends, cocktail loving friends, whisky loving friends, cool friends, here!!
google avatar

Alicia L.

Yelp
Can't wait to come back! The drink we got tasted fantastic & it was a unique place. Great place to grab a drink in the area & not super busy, at least when we went. Prices were average for cocktails but they were pretty fancy! Very nice bartender that helped us out.

Alaina S.

Yelp
I don't even know where to begin! My partner & I had our wedding (vow exchange and reception) at Malahat in December with about 40 people. Lindsay (the event coordinator & tasting room manager) and all of the staff went above and beyond to help make the evening special for us, as well as for our friends & family. We planned the event over an 8 month period and Lindsay never failed to answer any of my millions of questions. After being together for over 11 years, it really came down to finding an intimate venue that had character and for us- Malahat was beyond perfect! We can't wait to visit again when we are in San Diego next time! Thank you all for everything!

Wing C.

Yelp
Very cute place with speakeasy vibe! Highly recommend making reservation! Tried the coastal gin and love it. Also tried the some whisky and they are amandine!
google avatar

Suzanna L.

Yelp
I would've given this place five stars if not for the lack of central heat on a chilly night. The spirits were unique and of high quality. After using my Living Social deal to partake in a tasting (you get 6 of their 8 spirits), I found myself a fan of their spiced and ginger rums. The cocktails were great. Just turn up the heat.. literally!
google avatar

Juliet C.

Yelp
Ash our bartender was absolutely amazing , she made our night special, memorable and was so knowledgeable about all the drinks and liquor. She wasn't offended when we critiqued our drinks and tried to point out the nose and mouth feel. It was so much fun talking with her about New Orleans. Thank you so much for opening on new years eve, it was a blast. It was an absolute pleasure. And we will without a doubt be back. The apple tart might be my favorite drink of the year and that's 365 days to compare it to, it was so balanced and complex, but just down right delicious.
google avatar

Carol Y.

Yelp
Amazing drinks, decor, and experience. We may have accidentally wandered in through the back entrance and it was like a fun, mini escape room to find our way inside. Since it my our first time here, my friends and I did the full tasting flight (8) to start with. Honestly, I think you would be fine with the (6). I would skip the Vodka and Rye Whiskey. Their key players are their rums. We all loved the Ginger and Spiced Rum a lot and ended up buying a bottle for our friend's birthday after. We also tried a few of their cocktails. My favorites were the Stone's Gold and Deconstructed Dark and Stormy. I will definitely be coming back for those. My other friends liked the Redeye to Manhattan and Old Fashioned with Aged Rum. Overall, great place for a casual gathering of friends. It gets busy, so make a reservation. PS The Daiquiri 3 ways and Old Fashioned 3 ways means that they can make the drink for you in 3 different ways. It's not like a small tasting/flight where they serve it to you 3 different ways.

Michele R.

Yelp
Just had the best time and spirits at this place!! Ash & Lindsey are so knowledgeable and make fantastic cocktails! Highly recommend....so fun!!!

Yelp
This place is quite the enigma! It's not apparent that they want this place to be found, seeing the tiny sign that could barely be seen in the street and seeing that the tasting room is hidden next to miscellaneous businesses. When you do actually find it and enter the door, you will see that you are at the beginning of a maze. Going through this maze, I felt like I was in Goonies or Raiders of the Lost Ark. That part was confusing, new, and fun all at the same time. It led to this beautiful tasting room/bar. It was pretty spacious with room at the bar or room to sit on 4-5 tables. We sat at the bar, only to hear the bartender tell us that they only do tastings, unless we have a reservation... then they could serve us cocktails. We didn't have a reservation, so we did the 6 tasters of their booze. After the 2nd tasting, it was kind of unbearable to drink without a chaser. As we were nearly done with our tasters, she says... since you guys only got one set of tasters, I can make one of you a cocktail. We were perplexed... I don't get why we couldn't have both just ordered one cocktail each in the beginning. She gave us the Caught in the Doldrums. It was one of the best tiki drinks I've ever tasted! I wish we could have started on that note instead of having to drink 6 half shots with no chaser. Things seem very complicated with their rules about the liquor laws. We just wanted a cocktail, and not have to jump through hoops to make reservations. This place seems to be trying to find it's identity. Is it a bar? Is it a tasting room? Is it an event space for parties? This place has so much potential to be great... I just hope one day all of my questions can be answered as to what the hell this place is.
google avatar

Yelp
Thoroughly enjoyed our trip to Malahat Spirits! From the moment you walk through the door, it is an experience! Once you walk through the "escape room" type entrance, you are rewarded with an intimate, yet beautifully decorated room, where you can try a variety of rum and vodka drinks! The spirits were definitely different than anything we've had before! The service and atmosphere, and the spirits, were all absolutely wonderful!

Yelp
We came here to celebrate our friends birthday. Wife and I live 2 miles from here so we just ubered for 6 bucks to be safe. The parking lot is small. Good thing it was a weekend and off business hours. The entry way into the bar was a mix of a speak easy and a holloween set of hallways with burlap sacks everywhere. We are already thinking about having a holloween drink up here cause the owners will make the hallway holloweeny. The inside is small with big distillery canisters. Our host for the evening was the manager and his name is Jacob. Totally looks like Joe Nichols. Awesome guy and explains the history of rum, the place, and his experiences that made him the expert he is today. Below is what we had for our tasting: 92 bourbon 80 proof bourbon White rum grade A molasses tastes like tequila 80 proof Spiced rum 12 actual spices 70 proof Ginger rum hand sliced ginger aged for a month 70 proof Black tea started as a one time summer thing. Became a family item 80 proof Experimental sneak preview vodka all grain. OMG. Dangerously like water!! Smooth 90 proof Cabernet aged rum. I learned that when you ask for rum straight, it means the the choice youll be givin is aged for atleast 2 years. Awesome place and awesome first time experience! Thanks for the birthday party Rosita!

Yelp
It's always a great stop to have a flight or explore their cocktails. I love introducing friends to the space. The staff are friendly. They are also really easy to work with in reserving the space for a private event. The cocktails are tasty and showcase the liquor made by the distillery. We usually end up taking a few bottles home among those tasting their great options. My favorites are the Ginger and Black Tea rums. Sometimes I mix the two to make a ginger tea . It's also nice to see what new collaborations they make.

Yelp
Excellent cocktails and excellent service...this venue is small enough that everyone can know your name...

Yelp
Atypical settings similar to a speakeasy bar. Dim light. Table for small and large groups. Got the deal through groupon. The tastings are glass shots of their different spirits on the menu. Bottle they sell seem to be pretty affordable! Reservationsdone through their website. They even remind you of the event by txt and ask to confirm just in case you have changed your mind. Black tea rum stood out! But their vodka was pretty smooth too! Wish they had a smokey whiskey!!!! Would definitely recommend!!

Yelp
I love it here! I came here after the third reopening from COVID. In this hidden gem, I met the kindest bartender. I forgot her name (currently kicking myself) but she was an absolute sweetheart. Due to covid restrictions, they have food catered that you must order if you're drinking. The food is delicious with a decent size portion. The drinks .... there is so much to be said about the drink menus and the concoctions that the bartender comes up with!! I absolute love this place. I went back recently to celebrate my birthday with a bunch of friends. We were able to make a reservation for the large table that they have in the middle of the tasting room. (Under 10 people, due to covid) I had such a great time. I love the staff, love the drinks, and the food. I would definitely recommend this place for anyone that likes a nice cocktail and cute environment.

Yelp
If you're tired of over-hopped brew and packed Breweries why not try a rum distillery instead? Some have described the entrance of Malahat as Pirates of the Caribbean, some more like Texas Chainsaw massacre. Once you make your way in you're greeted by a small tasting room and a private barrel table in the other room. You will likely be greeted by one or more of the founders as they work here too. If you saddle up to the front bar you'll be treated to several tastings ($15) including some of their up-and-coming Bourbon they have maturing. Even though it's a bit young, it had a wonderful bouquet. They wash your shot class in between pourings to prevent flavors from crossing. - The tasting is $15 and you get to keep the shot glass. - Tea and clear were my favorite tastings. - Can handle groups of 30 or so..Keep in mind it's a small place. - They do have decor from the Star of India and the "Master and Commander" ships but not sure how they got those.. You'll probably want to come visit Malahat sooner than later. This is still a fairly new Distiller and you still have the opportunity to talk to the founders. Get in on the ground floor!

Yelp
Really tasty cocktails at great prices and super friendly staff. They are a distillery so you can get bottles or shots of stuff they make there. I'm a vodka snob and their vodka is some of the best I've ever had.

Yelp
Excellent spirits and cocktails on top of an amazing crew and unique atmosphere. We loved it and will be back! Although the location can be a little tricky to find (if you are a dumbass and miss the large banner outside like I did...), if you enjoy spirits and craft cocktails do yourself a favor and try out Malahat. Walking through the maze at the entrance is an experience in itself, but with a couple turns and some history written on the wall, the hallway lands you out into one of the coolest distilleries I've ever been too. It is a little small but the place is very well done with a variety of seating available, minimalist decor, and no nonsense bar area. Our servers were awesome and were both helpful and entertaining without trying too hard, and made us both off the menu cocktails that we really enjoyed! These two really seemed to enjoy their job, the company they work for and making just the right drink for you. We are looking forward to going back there as they are launching a new cocktail menu shortly! Thank you Malahat team, we will see you soon!

Yelp
Haven't been there but have had a few bottles from them. Easily one of my favorite Bourbons! Makes a fantastic Old Fashioned
