The Best Bars in Portland, Oregon | Bon Appétit

"A tiny, artful pocket bar with fuchsia lighting and an idiosyncratic soundtrack, serving conceptual, playful cocktails in maximalist glassware; menu highlights include half‑dozen oysters dressed with roasted bay leaf oil and theatrical drinks like one built from Chartreuse, a hogo‑forward Jamaican rum blend, and falernum presented in oversized ceramics. The place skews too‑cool in aesthetic but delivers memorably weird, gleeful cocktails—try the dirty martini made with Paranubes aguardiente, dry vermouth, bay leaf oil, and seawater." - ByJordan Michelman

The Most Anticipated Portland Restaurant Openings, Fall 2024 | Eater Portland

"The cult cocktail pop-up Malpractice, led by bartender Rick Munro, is taking a permanent narrow space beside Cargo featuring a bespoke hexagonal bar made by Oslo-based design-build firm Behind Bars; Munro employs modern techniques like acid-adjusting fruit and forced carbonation to craft high-concept cocktails such as the Rotten to the Core, which incorporates shiitake mushroom–infused Suze aperitif with koji-fermented whiskey, apple brandy, de-acidified banana vinegar reduction, and lacto-fermented miso and honey." - Janey Wong

High-Concept Cocktail Pop-Up Malpractice Is Opening a Portland Bar | Eater Portland

"Starting as a 2022 pop-up, I watched Munro evolve Malpractice into a buzzy, high-concept project that this fall will become a full-fledged cocktail bar; he’s designing it as a place he personally wants to go, with a loud, dark ambiance and an experimental bent using techniques like acid adjusting, force carbonation and milk clarifying. Many of the drinks are culinary in genesis—I've seen him translate dishes into cocktails, from feta cheese–infused sotol and a banana vinegar reduction to a cantaloupe drink inspired by prosciutto and melon and prosciutto fat–washed liquor—and he often works backward from a playful name (like “Waste of Time”) or consults The Flavor Bible for direction. The bird motif that began with a clarified jungle bird pairing has persisted in cheeky cocktail names such as “Birds Having Sex on the Beach” and “Birds Aren’t Bitter,” and I noted his tongue-in-cheek approach even extends to DIY solutions like making his own Chartreuse (with a deliberate blue tint). He plans to create tight food-and-drink pairings—examples include a freezer martini infused with pineapple and oyster shells paired with an oyster topped by an absinthe-infused pineapple granita, or a crudo with lacto-fermented grapefruit—aiming for a near-tasting-menu level of cohesion rather than a full tasting menu." - Janey Wong

We had been to the previous spot here (Grape Ape) and were excited to try the new bar that took over the space. We were very happy with the food and drink. We had the chips and the oysters. They also had happy hour going on a Saturday so that was cool. The cocktails were very tasty and highly inventive without being too wild and crazy. The oysters were amazing and fresh. We'll be back for sure.

This is a cool little bar. It's pretty small, so don't expect to come here with a group. It is ideal for 2 people. The drinks are super creative, but all pre-batched. If you want to watch a bartender whip up some cool stuff, this probably isn't the place. Food was delicious also. Try the wagyu bologna sandp, it slaps.

Excellent drinks - we tried One Foot Out the Door and Spicy Margaritas and they were both well balanced and pack a punch! Also had 2 dozen oysters and they were absolutely delicious. Service was chill and the vibes were fresh. Can't wait to come again!

Incredible cocktails, we had the Personality Hire and Birds are Bitter About the Holidays and both were perfectly balanced. The whole menu looks amazing and we can’t wait to come back and try more. The ambiance is perfect, especially during the winter season. So glad they opened a permanent spot it’s truly a treat

Google
easily my favorite bar in town right now. the cocktails are all unique and have a large variety for every palette. the space was well renovated and though small, feels very spacious with plenty of seating. it’s very cozy and comfortable and perfectly lit. every one of the staff here is a delight - will be back often!

Cute spot. Reminds me of a bar I'd walk into in Europe. Check out the happy hour! Its 4-6pm and i think all day wednesday. Drinks were $2 cheaper and they have $2 oysters!! The drinks were fun with great names and the oyster garnish was delicious.

Google
incredibly thoughtful food & drink (funky in the best way), cool fun atmosphere! our server was so knowledgeable and took the time to ask about our tastes to recommend drinks we would like. we’ve been to the pop-ups and so happy for a malpractice brick and mortar. lovely experience, will be back!

The price of the cocktails is way over priced for nothing fresh. The service meh and it’s tiny tiny tiny in there. The waiter was impatient with us and after we paid, we were finishing up our drinks, and perhaps a little slower than he liked. He snatched our water pitcher (which was half full) without a word and took it to another table. Ick. Not worth the hype or money. Get over yourself malpractice…there’s a ton of malpractice going on at this bar.
