We could hear Frank Sinatra singing his Italian inspired love songs as we walked through the outdoor seating area of Mama Carolla's. The award-winning restaurant is housed in a beautiful Mediterranean style home built in the 1920's on the south side of Broad Ripple. Lace covered tables are tucked in every corner of the house.
We arrived early to get a table, there was a line of patrons waiting for 5:00. They do not take reservations except for larger parties. The entire staff is welcoming, super friendly and attentive. I couldn't help but be a little excited as we were ushered to our little bistro style table by a front window.
Amanda, our server was efficient. I selected a Malbec wine and my husband had a craft beer. They were promoting the Devour Indy menu, consisting of a fixed-priced, 3-course menu for two.
We shared an order of the Fried Calamari. The generous portion of calamari is lightly breaded and tender. It is served with an aioli sauce and lemon wedge.
Small salads are included with the meal with a choice of Italian dressings. The salads are served with the most wonderful, hot, fresh Italian bread. The bread has a beautiful chewy crust. Olive oil is on every table for dipping.
The Shrimp Scampi was delicious. There were 6 large shrimp covered in a dreamy lemon, garlic, butter sauce. A small, but perfect, portion of pasta was served on the side.
My husband had the Mediterranean Pasta, which contained a huge portion of pasta with strips of chicken, roasted tomato, spinach and pine nuts. It was very good, too.
Mama's is a great place to go on date night or with a small group. The prices have stayed reasonable, the food is delicious and service is great.
