The Most Surprising Portland Food News Stories in 2023 | Eater Portland

"I was really surprised when I learned that Mama Đút was closing, though remembering that Thuy didn't set out to open a restaurant — Mama Đút was a pandemic pivot — made the closure more understandable; the end doesn't mean the food will disappear, since Thuy has said she'll share all the restaurant's recipes on Instagram." - Eater Staff

Portland’s Vegan Chefs on Their Favorite Ingredients for Home Cooking | Eater Portland

"At Mama Dut, Thuy Pham lists her top five staples as garlic, onions, dried mushrooms, white pepper, and fried shallots, and also frequently uses garbanzo beans, jasmine rice, rice flour, coconut milk, oats, nutritional yeast, dates, and young jackfruit; she likes Gardein’s variety and Quorn’s vegan buffalo dippers, and she keeps specialty items brought from Vietnam—dried bamboo shoots, rice paper, frozen galangal, frozen passionfruit pulp—along with a few bottles of soy sauce from Germany and some vegan German chocolate." - Waz Wu

Portland Chefs, Bakers, and Pitmasters on the Stuff They Put on Everything | Eater Portland

"I love locally made Tan Tan Hoisin — I use it for pho and as an oyster-sauce substitute in stir-fries and marinades — and I reach for Sao Noi’s Ginger Chili Oil as my go-to hot sauce (a local woman-of-color-owned company and 2021 Good Food Awards finalist); I also use fermented chili tofu for spicy dips, marinades, and to add salty, briny, savory notes." - Brooke Jackson-Glidden

A very cozy and quiet restaurant. The food was incredible. People working there are very friendly and kind. Prices are also nice and you can pay with the card❤️ Will come back here with my friends!

A sufficient amount of toppings and the ratio of rice to fish. We had delicious, fresh products. Rice in coconut milk with duck was also cooked good. I also paid attention to the dishes, they are clean and whole. Additional sauces are served with rice and duck dishes. Great idea! The Cafe is very small. Good service, friendly staff.

Food was okay, but despite ordering a vegan dish, it contained oyster sauce and was therefore inedible for my friend with seafood allergy

We ordered over Uber and all was in time, the driver was very friendly and the food was packed perfect. We ordered among other things Hanoi Curry and Golden Rice. Obviously the Hanoi Curry and the Golden Rice was cooked with a lot of flavor enhancers so we have hadache and feel bad. So for us this was the first and the last order. The usage of flavor enhancers should be labelled.

I ordered via Uber eats - they delivered on time and the sushi was very tasty. The packaging could be more sustainable, but other than that everything was great.
