Mamaleh’s Review - Cambridge - Boston - The Infatuation

"Boston can’t compete with . And that’s OK, because at least we have this incredible Kendall Square joint. The staples like whitefish salad, chopped liver, pastrami, and lox are all excellent, and you should always prioritize some kind of carb like house-baked bread, bagels, bialys, and babka. Come here the next time you’re looking for a casual lunch spot, a breakfast to take on the go, or just want to order from a brunch menu that doesn’t have eight pages of eggs—the crispy latkes and matzah ball soup are soul-nourishing any time of day." - Megan Zhang

Google
A lot of options at this Food Hub but don’t overlook this little gem, especially if you’re hungry for a sandwich. Corned beef, pastrami, and breakfast (egg, cream cheese, lox) options all available on bagels, breads and rolls. Friendly service and it won’t break the bank. Love making a good choice at a new place (for me), and this definitely falls into that category.

Google
We were recently in New York where we indulged in perfect bagels almost daily, so we were pleasantly surprised to find Mamaleh’s bagels here in downtown Boston to be impressively close. The outside has a nice gloss and hard crust, the inside dough is chewy, the crumb density on par. Highly recommend.

Google
I am never disappointed by the food here—it is always of good quality. However, my complaint is that it's only good, not great. I find myself always able to seek out better versions of the food they offer here. They have a good Rachel, but Cardullo's is better. Good bagel sandwiches, but again, you can find better. If you're in the area, you WON'T be disappointed, but maybe look out for other options first.

Google
on July 1st 2025, Mamalehs high street has no pastrami. A jewish deli, without pastrami, whos only options are turkey sandwiches Shut it down. Immediately.

Google
10% surcharge feels unethical, and a bit misleading. This allows them to show a lower price on the menu, then add 10%. Just price the item as $12, not $11 so people know what they are paying. Food was fine, nothing remarkable but no reason to not recommend the food.

Google
Not much to say, it's a bit overpriced for what you get, but it is objectively a solid pastrami and chopped liver sandwich, and the coffee isn't bad either! I've had better and larger for less (Attman's in Baltimore for one), but in downtown Boston, this hits the spot.

Delicious, friendly staff and they have homemade gluten free bread! L.E.O sandwich on GF bread pictured below.

Google
Delicious, authentic, and fresh baked Jewish bagels. Traditional flavor options (poppy, everything, sesame, plain) that are soft and fluffy. Homemade cream cheese tastes so fresh and airy. You can taste the quality and difference between large scale bagel places and small shops like this!

Yelp
Mamaleh's Delicatessen is a solid spot if you're craving a New York deli sandwich in Boston. We ordered the Reuben with pastrami, and while it's not quite Katz's, it's definitely satisfying. I appreciated the grilled bread and the pastrami wasn't overly greasy. The sandwich was big enough as a snack for two to share and came with a yummy pickle. This location is inside the High Street Place food hall, which is clean, spacious, and offers plenty of seating with other food options nearby. Service was just okay, but the overall experience was good. If you're in the area and craving a deli classic, definitely consider this stall.

Yelp
I'm not one to write reviews. Truly, I hate criticizing a business. But I have never been so disappointed in a Jewish deli sandwich. Listen, I'm not expecting Katz's or Sarge's. I know this is Boston. But to call this a double pastrami sandwich and charge $19 is absurd. There's more bread than meat. The meat that is there is chewy. Please, on behalf of the Jewish community in Boston, I ask you to do better.

Yelp
Came here for a bagel before work. It wasn't super busy so was able to get my bagel within 5 minutes of ordering. Everything bagel with dill cream cheese - everything bagel was a little dense and very chewy. The dill cream cheese was unique and added a nice flavor dimension.

Yelp
Decently bustling on a Sunday but didn't have to wait for a table which was nice, inside is casual almost diner vibes Food came quickly which was nice, got the salmon lox egg and onion (Leo) sandwich Food itself was pretty small portion and pretty simple, there was a good sauce and the homemade challah roll was soft and fluffy, egg was nice warm and soft, onion added good kick But for $10 not sure if it was worth, pretty standard sandwich But the people were friendly and the vibes were good!

Yelp
We stopped in at High Street Place Food Hall for breakfast. The food hall was pretty empty since it's a Saturday morning, some construction workers and police officers. Lots of seating brightly lit. They had just opened so service was quick. Ordered the lastnamer and a water. Just over $17. The bagel was slightly toasted and the toppings were fresh. They attach a 10% fair wage fee to each order that they do not declare until after you've given them your card. However the person at the counter indicated to me I just needed to sign and not tip since they added a 10% fee.

Yelp
For a quick work lunch, I went inside High Street Place and decided to get a Beef Tongue Sandwich ($15.99) from Mamaleh's. Given the lunch rush, I waited 10 minutes to receive my order. The sandwich itself used multigrain bread with fragrant grains and aromatic mustard (probably dijon). The beef tongue slices also tasted rich and savory, contrasting the mustard well. The portion size looked like a normal sandwich size. While delicious, I cannot justify paying for this again. The establishment charges at 10% kitchen appreciation fee for glorified cafeteria counter service. The $15.99 list price becomes $17.6 pre-tax / ~$19 post-tax. The price point seems to want to compete with Sam Lagrassa's for the amount of audacity one could put into a sandwich price.

Yelp
I have found myself on a mission to try every place in HSP. One morning, Mamaleh's found itself next, and I can safely tell you: they do things very well! Everything was fresh and delicious! I ordered an L.E.O. (Lox, egg, and caramelized onion on a challah roll with dill mayo). The egg was blended with caramelized onions. The proportions were on point, and the onions added some lovely savory and sweet notes. The challah gave some sweetness as well! While I am typically not a fan of sweet sandwiches, here it is gentle enough that it works! Besides, I can't only get my morning dose of sugar in the form of glazed donuts at Dunkies...not that there is anything wrong with that. Glazed donuts are delicious! It wasn't all sweet; this is where the dill mayo comes in. While I was hesitant initially, it added a whole new dimension to the sandwich. In tandem, the dill and mayo add a perfect, subtle amount of tang and their own savory notes. Egg, bread, mayo, and herbs are good and fine, but the lox is the star. In addition, it is the primary point of contrast to the other ingredients, both in texture and salt content. Regrettably, the amount of lox was somewhat lacking, especially compared to the amount of egg/caramelized onion. I knew it was in there, but there was not enough to make an adequate impact. Finally, the service here was excellent. The owner was very kind, professional, and personable. Considering the freshness, the speed was fine as well. I will make a return visit, but this time I will ask for double lox!

Yelp
Great but super stacked - fork needed! Little on a pricey side $20 bucks, better ordering off the menu with no additions.

Yelp
First time at both High Street Place and at Mamaleh's deli. We split the whitefish salad sandwich in a toasted everything bagel, and it was delicious and overflowing with cucumbers, tomato, not too sharp red onions, and somewhat chunky (in a good way) smoked whitefish salad. What a breakfast treat, and calorically it carried us through to dinner. By the way in the future for breakfast at High street I'll be considering Mike and Patty's, their breakfast sandwiches looked tempting.

Yelp
Located in a well kept food court, it's a relatively small space but they had the necessities. Limited bagel varieties of Plain, Sesame, and Everything. Bagels were decent and Staff were friendly. The reason for the 1 star? Later on while looking at my receipt, they added on a 10% fair wage surcharge! ...and yet it was still expected that you tip upon check out. I have absolutely no problem in people being paid fairly, they absolutely should be. These costs should be rolled into their per item cost and prices should simply be raised. They are treating it as a tax and trying to advertise artificially lower product costs.

Yelp
Avoid if you have food allergies!! I had asked the cashier about a specific menu item and when they weren't sure if it contained the allergen in question they told me we probably shouldn't order from there. I was taken aback after that comment but also wouldn't have felt comfortable ordering there after that interaction anyway. I hope they start better training on food allergies but we will definitely be avoiding this place.

Yelp
Decided to try this place for the first time, based on its reputation for excellence. Worst decision ever. I had the pastrami/chopped liver sandwich and a cup of matzoh ball soup. $25.00!! Let's start with the soup. The so called matzoh ball was just shameful. The absolute worst version of one I've ever tried to choke down. Hard, dry as a bone, and almost impossible to cut with the plastic spoon. First time ever in my life I've left a matzoh ball un eaten. The sandwich? What can i say? It would have made the owners of Katz's in NYC, weep. Dry, zero flavor or spice on it. Nothing had any flavor, it was dry and chewy. Just avoid this place. Go to Sam LaGrassa, if you want an actual pastrami sandwich.

Yelp
I thought this place was yummy! I got the lox sandwich on a sesame bagel. Super fresh and good, they don't put a ton of cream cheese which I like, but might not be everyone's thing! I wish the bagel was a little fluffier but overall yum!

Yelp
No, no, no. Bagel with cream cheese. Simple. Cream cheese does not come from a giant squirt bottle! You cut the bagel in half after making it. Mamaleh - get your act together.

Yelp
Newly opened location in the 100 High Street food court, more a food mall really. A friend brought me some whitefish salad Monday and it was delicious! Tuesday after work I went by to look for some hamentaschen, sadly this location does not have them, but I decided to try an egg salad. For those who don't know, egg salad is one of the tests for a good deli (at least to me) and a Doctor Brown's Cream Soda (no one seems to be able to get Cel-Ray anymore). A nice wedge of half sour pickle came with the sandwich, which was my appetizer. A nice fresh baked challah roll, soft and yummy. The egg salad was fresh, slightly salty, and passed the test with flying colours. Grabbed a bag of "today's end of day bagels" and some cream cheese for the house. Prices were as expected for a good deli, and not too high considering the location. The menu has enough options so now just about anyone can find a nice nosh downtown.

Yelp
I love deli food, especially matza ball soup. However, their soup was terrible. I think the broth was burnt. Bitter and dark. Matza ball was tasteless. The chicken, and veggies looked so symmetrical I'm sure they were prefabed. My corned beef sandwich was ok but no fresser.

Yelp
Just okay. I ordered two everything bagels and veggie cream cheese, it was $9. Which would be fine if it was a good bagel or had enough cream cheese. I had to pay an extra $1.80 for another side of cream cheese. Even with extra cream cheese it tastes like nothing. Very thin and not flavorful bagels. Just meh, go elsewhere.
