"This French-Algerian restaurant takes its name from the French grandmother (Maman) and Algerian grandfather (Mimi) of long-time New York City chef and owner Jacques Ouari, most notably of the Upper East Side mainstay bistro Jacques Brasserie. Opened this spring in the space formerly occupied by Jacques 1534, the NoLita eatery features an extensive menu of French-Algerian dishes, including shrimp and chicken lemhajeb—a thin, homemade filo-layered tart filled with chicken, tomato and goat cheese—alongside plenty of bistro classics like French onion soup and steak tartare." - Marguerite Imbert

Cozy, french vibes make this an excellent place for a romantic date or a spot to casually chill with friends. The outside seating is nice for just sipping beers or wine, and you can sit with your dog! It's a new spot, by the way, and they have a projector if you want to watch the world cup. Indoors is even nicer, and the staff are incredibly friendly. The Lamb and Couscous is very rich and filling, and my partner had the mussels, which were great. Fries are good too, and so is the custard. Some people mentioned slow service, but ours was quite fast actually. Though to be fair, it didn't seem too busy. Definitely stop by if you're in the area.

All the food was really good and this place is in a great area. The only downfall was that the service was a bit slow. Other than that, everything was great.

Lovely food. V different to typical US cuisine and a lot of the other options available in the area. The music and atmosphere was great and its lovely to sit outside to eat and drink

Horrible food. We had the skirt steak with fries and burger. The fries were barely cooked, white and soggy. The steak was basically rare, i was never asked how i wanted my steak and the waiter assumed medium, so thats ok. But theres a huge difference between medium and rare. Sent it back asked him to pls just cook it a bit since i couldnt eat it. The fries came back ok, the steak the same. The quality was so bad, tough and chewy and rare still. My friend asked for her burger well done, it was medium/medium rare, her fries were also barely cooked and soggy. Asked for a cheese plate as appetizers and it came with literally 4 tiny pieces of bread. I told the waiter to bring out some more bread and it was the biggest joke. He brought out two itty bitty tiny pieces and asked me, "is this enough?"....wow. the service is sloooooow. That would have been ok if the food was good, but nope. Cant say anything was good.

Unfortunately we had a bad experience with this place, they didn’t have 6 different dishes out of the menu, service was super slow, took them almost 15 minutes to give us water and we had to repeat the order twice for two different waiters- all that and the restaurant was half empty. Prices are very expensive for what you get, food was salty and not good! Will not recommend this place at all!

Big YES for this cozy place. Food was great. I want to try "les moules" so will definitely go back. 🤗

Good food but terrible service, so slow. Waited two hours to get the main dish.
