The 14 Best Restaurants In Manchester - Manchester - The Infatuation

"Spacious walnut-wood tables, sleek, pendant lights suspended from high ceilings, and the occasional chorus of “yes, chef” from the open kitchen set the tone for the ultimate tasting menu in the city. Located in the post-industrial cool of Ancoats, everything here feels considered: from the stylish-but-comfortable chairs and ceramic plates, to the far-from-trad wine list showcasing small, low-intervention producers. The modern European cooking is also nothing short of majestic. Technique is a vessel for vivid flavours, like a plump Carlingford oyster in a swirling, Yayoi Kusama-looking concoction of horseradish-infused buttermilk split with dill oil. You could play it safe with a shorter menu, but then you’d miss the two-stage serving of langoustine, which is as euphoric as a night out at the Hacienda in the ‘80s. Food from the heavens, no question." - joel hart

"The personality and experience of chef-owner Simon Martin shine brightly at this stylish, modern restaurant, where every one of the well-spaced tables has a view of the kitchen. British produce leads the way, including plenty of seafood because, as Simon puts it, “we live on an island”. There are many Asian techniques on display and the cooking marries complex flavours with a pure, natural approach, in dishes such as a superb roasted hogget with white miso sabayon." - Michelin Inspector

Mana is Manchester’s first Michelin starred restaurant and one of only two in the city; the 2nd being recently awarded to Skof. I decided to celebrate my wedding anniversary with my wife here. Overall it was a good experience although imo quite expensive for what we received. Undoubtedly a huge effort went into the food presented with a total (I think) of 14 dishes served. However no dish really stood out for me that I’d say was exceptional. With that said, no dish was poor or not enjoyable either. The restaurant is in Ancoats and is one large open space accommodating a lounge, the tables and an open kitchen. I quite liked the minimalist clean decor however my wife got startled on a few occasions with sudden loud bursts of “yes chef” from the open kitchen. Service was mixed. Our sommelier was great (and highly entertaining!) however the young lady at reception didn’t even smile at us when we walked in & then mistakenly added £140 extra on our bill at the end. Like many fine dining restaurants I’ve been to, Mana’s worthwhile for a special occasion but it’s unlikely I’d go back again.

Mana offers the fine dining experience that you would expect from a Michelin starred restaurant. Our group of 4 had the 'extracts' tasting menu for lunch and splashed out on the wine pairing because why wouldn't you? All 4 of us found each dish to be delicious and often surprising (I'm thinking of you, horseradish flour). Lighter flavoured dishes alternated with very punchy dishes that we all thought gave a nice rhythm to the meal. Last but definitely not least, staff are all fantastic and the sommelier is both very knowledgeable and as chatty as you want him to be... just don't believe the "I've only worked here 2 days" 🤣 Oh, don't be too surprised by the shout outs from the kitchen (reminded us of the much calmer bits of the series 'The Bear').

We celebrated our 30th anniversary meal in style. From the moment you arrive the service is personal, warm and above all amusing and joyful. Special shoutouts to Kat, the “quite funny” waitress and the sommelier Nikolai who discussed the wine with real knowledge and joy. And then to the food which was all full of flavours and textures and was as beautiful as it looked. The courses were served with pride by the chefs. Definitely worthy of its Michelin star and a wonderful experience.

Foods are delicate and special. Ingredients are carefully chosen. One of the best Michelin ever tried. Wine pairing also attentive with wines from different regions of the world.

The most amazing experience ever. The attention to detail is insane! The whole menu makes sense throughout and the wine pairing (which is extremely recommended) makes even more sense! The sommelier was amazing! My favourites were the Salt Aged Beef, Quisquillas, The Rest of the Lobster, the duck Salad and the Rest of the Duck. Also, the quality of the glasses… I was obsessed! The way that we see all the chefs in the kitchen working so well is incredible and even the way that they make sure the glasses are spotless… wow 100% coming back and excited to try all the menus as they keep changing it! Best birthday dinner of my life for sure!

Really enjoyable meal at Mana. I really liked the ample use of fresh seafood ingredients and the unique, Japanese-inspired dishes. The prawn dish was incredible, like nothing I've ever had before. On the downside, besides from the prawns, there was no other individual dish which blew my mind. The desserts were interesting, but not especially tasty. The service was not as attentive as I'd expect from a Michelin starred restaurant. I'd go back with other people, for the experience. I probably won't come back with just the two of us as it's overpriced for what it is.

Absolute delight for dinner. Every dish was unique in flavour and delicious. It was mostly seafood dishes except a coppa ham snack and a lamb main and the desserts. Service was excellent too with great explanations and enthusiasm from the chefs.

This isn't just good food - the food here is the apotheosis of culinary experiences. The service is incredible, the food is sublime and every member of staff had a incredible level of expertise and were immensely passionate in their fields. I can't wait to go again!
