The Best Places To Eat In The Financial District

"You may not have time to sneak out for a two-hour power lunch at a fancy FiDi restaurant with white tablecloths, but you can go to Homage LTD and eat like you did. This small, fast-casual spot is the offshoot of the original Homage in Union Square, and serves a constantly-changing California menu that has everything from chicken tartine to radicchio salad. And if you get here and find that your afternoon meeting just got pushed, they also have beer and wine." - will kamensky

"MARCH may just be the best kitchen and tabletop store in the country. (In fact, we love it so much, we collaborated with them and Alice Waters on a dinner to raise funds for The Edible Schoolyard.) No, this is not the place to buy a Kitchen Aid, or a Silpat, but instead to discover a beautiful, hand-made mortar and pestle, Michael Verheyden candlesticks, or Billy Cotton glass and dinnerware. We were overjoyed when they finally went online last year. "

Every time I place an online order here, it always comes broken or different from what they picture due to their negligent packaging and product representation. Don't buy from here unless you want to waste your time and money and pay $100 in shipping to return a $255 set of products because they misrepresented their items. Not to mention how comical it is that their customer care team, Katharine Lange, consistently refuses to take responsibility for their negligence.

Ordered one of their beautiful terracotta pots online and the packaging was really well done. The pot arrived with a hairline fracture down the entire side of the pot, but hey, these things happen. I reached out to them and within an hour they started working to ship a replacement at no cost.

I no longer live in San Francisco, however I have placed several online orders with the store and each and every time my experience has been excellent! March SF ships quickly and everything is packaged very well, including the large pots. Highly recommend this store and will definitely stop in the next time in I am in San Francisco.

Google
Likely my favorite store in SF. Beautiful, sophisticated, aspirational design that toes the line between modern and transitional styles so, so well. Nothing feels "cold", nothing feels "rustic" - everything feels graceful and chic. March is an incredible curation of goods living in a fabulous, airy, light-filled space. Whether I come to shop in the afternoon or to attend one of their fabulous events in the evening, the staff has always been attentive and warm.

Google
March is a beautiful and unique home goods store with an amazingly unique buy. I work in the design industry and It’s nice to come across a store that is current and just gets it. I especially love the outdoor garden in the back, the outdoor space is such a gem. I visit every time I’m in town.

Google
Beautifully curated design store for the home that appreciates quality that is timeless & refined. A lovely collection of pantry must haves. Tops my list of San Francisco visits.

Google
They're master craftsmen. Thanks for hosting a fantastic party tonight. The Côte du Rhone was delicious. We love living just a few doors down from you. Go there for anything food related. You won't be disappointed. xxo

Google
Avoid unless you don't know / care about what the value of a dollar is. Big +1 to all the other people saying it's comical how expensive these items are. Sure they're nice but absolutely not worth it.

Yelp
Beautifully designed home goods and kitchen work tables to dream about - always worth visiting

Yelp
Everything you can't live another day without can be found at MARCH, what an amazing collection. In recent visits we have found knife sets, leather goods and ceramics, all essential to everyday living. The selection is always impeccable with an equal level of customer service. We are particularly fixated with Christiane Perrochon and MARCH has an expansive selection, always updated. Shipping / packaging is never an issue everything always arrives safely. Yesterday's purchases arrive in 5 days, I can't wait.

Yelp
Purchased a cutting board from them online. Their assistance was extraordinary and the board I purchased from them is gorgeous and is exactly what I saw in the photo provided. Great care was taken to pack and ship the item to me. It arrived in a timely fashion via FedEx. It is without reservation that I recommend this company and their gorgeous selection of items. cfc

Yelp
I came here back in December to get a gift for my parents. Honestly, my thinking was solely based around "need something for cooking but more unique than Williams-Sonoma or Sur La Table," so I happened upon March! What others have shared about customer service is spot-on. Shopping there, I felt like an outsider. Even at checkout (I actually bought something), when an older woman walked in she was suddenly the priority and I felt like I was just not part of the club. It was really odd! I'm just shopping, I don't need extra attention, but I don't want to feel uncomfortable and out of place when I'm just trying to buy something. The only reason this gets 3 stars is that the products were quite nice and I was happy about the set of knives I was able to get my parents. Other than that? I'll stick with a chain store.

Yelp
Super Service! great high-end selections of gifts. Definitely a place to visit for that special house warming gift. They also do gift wrapping here and it is 'signature' at it's best. Thomas Jefferson family lives up the hill from this place and this is my first time dropping in and not just poking being nosy through the window. Unfortunately for me my Boysenberry Jam/Preserves were confiscated at the airport ={ Respectfully Reviewed

Yelp
ordered online. beautiful pieces. the most eco-friendly, carefully packaged dinner plates. they were shipped via UPS ground and i was nervous there was a chance they would break. with no exaggeration - they were wrapped with tons of care and no plastic. zero styrofoam. zero bubble wrap. i can't speak for the in store experience - but great e-commerce experience.

Yelp
In my experience, I feel the service is really intimidating and I've left on 2 occasions because I did not feel comfortable. In this day and age, this is unacceptable.

Martha N.

Yelp
This is a beautiful space full of beautiful things for sale. I went there yesterday to attend a pop up book signing/happy hour featuring Alice Waters plus her lovely daughter Fanny. The staff are so welcoming. This shop is all about quality! Do yourself a favor and check it out!

Yelp
My last trip to March was specifically to check out a wine decanter I saw on their website. Both of the women there were knowledgable, helpful, and friendly. The woman helping me was more than happy to bring out another that was packed up in the back so I could choose the one I liked better. I've been to this store many times, and while the service can sometimes be a little stand-offish, I assumed it was in the interest of letting customers explore for themselves and not be bothered by overbearing salesmanship. If the salespeople aren't already busy with other customers, they'll always ask if I need help. I've never felt unwelcome. I'll keep coming back to March, because it's easily one of the most beautiful home retail spaces in SF right now.

Yelp
A lovely housewares store with cool, useful items for your home, decoratives, cookbooks, olive oil and pottery. It is like a museum of housewares and prices are not cheap but not completely out of range. Definitely a find of a store.

Glory B.

Yelp
I went into the store with my camera today because it is like being in a museum. I will try to post the pix. This is an adventure in senses. It is the most beautiful store I have ever been in and the most 'tactiley' delicious place to be. It is a must on anyone's list. I could be happy with anything from March. glory

Yelp
Beautiful kitchen and homeware, but they need to work on customer service and their website. I may not be a middle-aged, wealthy looking woman, but I would happily spend more money here if the staff were friendlier and more helpful towards me. Some items can be found elsewhere for less.

Elizabeth M.

Yelp
Gorgeous store. Pristinely curated. Rude and snobby personnel. We were immediately scolded for taking a picture (without being greeted properly) then followed around the store and assumed we were tourists with questions like "where are you traveling from?" Your brand is now tainted with a photo scolding experience and pretentious attitude, and that's what I'll remember you for. Unfortunately, not your products or ambiance. I'd find something else do with your free time and browse elsewhere.

Yelp
FINALLY!!! An adult sophisticated design store in SF!! OMG - I think I am in London or NYC again whenever I visit. Truly the most original style and taste in home furnishings in the city. And the presentation is tres chic and so NYC. I only wish they will generate enough business to stay in SF and influence the rest of the so tired "GOTHIC" or "INDUSTRIAL CHIC" crowd. Such tired tired aesthetics! March on MARCH and I wish you the best!

Yelp
This store is AMAZING! I could live in this space! From all the unique bags to lighting, as well as all the amazing cooking supplies. I am so happy to have found such a gem in the city!

Yelp
I visited the shop for the first time last week -- in search of bar stools for my extra tall kitchen counter. The store was awesome. Staff was really helpful and kind. I'm surprised that some of the reviews mention that folks are "snotty" at the store. I walked in looking quite hungover and unshaven -- and they treated me just fine. I asked for a quote on the stools that I liked and I had an email response that very day. Highly recommend this one-of-a-kind store. Sure, the place is expensive, but nice things usually are!

Yelp
Not worth the Uber trip out here. Went here looking for dishes that I saw on the website - not in the store. The website has more than was in the store. Wouldn't make a trip back, would shop online.

Yelp
I understand the people that this store is geared to. I do not have the kind of money to buy most of the things that they offer at this store and I am okay with that. Honestly their selection is not really my style, again probably because I am not one of the elite. However I do expect that if I go into a store that I am greeted just as every other customer. Here that is not the case. The majority of the employees here are extraordinarily dismissive. One of the employees who seemed very nervous asked if I needed help. I told her I was there to pick up some plates for my employer. She comes back with a bag of some plates with just a sheet of blank newsprint between each one. Okay so wait, my employer just spent 2k on 40 plates and you are bringing them to me in a bag with some newsprint? So I tell her that I need to drive this to the Peninsula and there is no way I can take 40 plates, some that are quite large, in my car when they aren't packed correctly. She disappears and for the next 15 minutes I wander the store wondering what is going on. She returns and has the larger plates wrapped in bubble wrap and in a bag. Great this will do. Outside 2 other employees head towards my car with boxes. So 3 employees, 4 boxes and one bag later I am told that it is not their policy to wrap items. That they should charge me for the boxes but that they will let it slide and that next time I will need to tell them in advance. Of course these statements were accompanied with a condescending tone. C'mon people. Crate and Barrel boxes their $10 plates for you and you can't box the $82 one. Christ even Ikea offers boxes and their plates are a $1. It was absolutely unacceptable and the worst part is I am very sure that if I had shown up in the right kind of car and the right kind of clothing their attitude would have been apologetic. Nothing irks me more than retail staff treating people like me like dirt. Hello, you are working retail, you are no better then the rest of us.

Yelp
I love this store! I wanted to move in! It's like dropping into a friend's kitchen (a friend with very good taste) and hanging out but everything is for sale. The staff were so warm and helpful, especially Benny. The store and the merchandise are so beautiful you will want everything! Even though I lusted for the AGA range...and a place to put it... there were lots of affordable things.

Yelp
This store is in my top 5 favorites in the country! The buyer for March has a great eye! I want it all!

Yelp
The furniture is really lovely and beautifuly presented. However you may not want to go there because Melissa who works there is extremely rude, mean and nasty. At least this was my experience. Today she yelled at me in the store and kept speaking over me when I tried to get my sentence out. Here tone was hateful in character. She told me that everyone in her family yells. She pointedly belitted and ridiculed me as a customer for using more than one form of payment in making my purchases which on at least two occasions had been in the $20,000 range, which was pointed out to her. She said "you use Paypal and different credit cards and other customers here just dont do that". It clearly annoyed her and she was happy to ridicule me about this seemingly acceptable form of payment. She started to go into her laptop to supposedly prove this to me when I asked her what her point was in belittling me in this way which I told her was rather mean spitited. She had no response and stopped at that point . Apparently March does not like customers to pay in a combination of cash and various credt cards. Also Melissa was nasty and quite mean spirited to me because I made a separate and later payment of $1500 (approximately) on a $23,500 side table purchased, to which she never provided the large screws to attach the item to the wall which I hoped for with the $1500 payment but never received. I was agressively , boldly and loudly yelled at by Mellissa in relation to this incident as well. I have never been treated like this by any merchant's emploee before. I asked Melissa when she was yelling about the addage that "the'customer is right" but Melissa did not agree with that notion. Melissa also yelled at me when I was in the store next door infront of one of the employees who was helping me! When I said to Melissa that I would not return to March because of her conduct she agressively yelled in an out of control tone "thank God". When I questioned Melissa's conduct towards me she assured me that the owner was behind her and apparently supported her conduct towards me. However in contrast, the owner Sam has always been very polite to me and seemed appreciative of my business. If you want to be treated nicely and enjoy seeing the lovely furniture, find out when Melissa is on vacation and you will likely find Sam in the store and she will very likely be nice and professional to you and treat you well. The reason I have given a low review score is entirely because of Melissa's conduct.

Yelp
This store is beautiful. However the customer service is appallingly bad. I purchased a wedding gift here that was to be shipped to the couple. They were out of stock on a item I wanted to include so they said they would contact me once it came in as well as let me know when the gifts were finally mailed out. After about a month I called the store to find out the status of the out of stock item. They said they would get back to me shortly and did not. I called back again and they said the item had come in and they would let me know once the gift was shipped out. Again they did not get back to me. I called again and left a message. This time they did call me back and told me that the gift had been mailed out. I asked for the shipping tracking number and they said they would call me back with it. Of course they did not. I only know the gift was received because I heard from the recipients. So only shop here if you have alot of time and the wherewithal to follow up and do the work that the March staff should be doing themselves.
