Yelp
We came here for Sunday through Tuesday recently. I had read great things about this establishment, so I had high hopes about this trip. I felt let down after the first day here.
For starters, our room wasn't ready by the time it was supposed to be - 4pm. We weren't able to get our room until close to 6:30pm! The front desk stated that they overbooked everyone and were basically scrambling to give everyone a room. We weren't the only ones to our room super late - numerous other visitors weren't granted access either and they were furious.
Finally, we were able to get to our room after waiting 10 minutes for the elevator. Since we were on floor 10, there was no way we were climbing that many flights of stairs. Fair warning - the 5 elevators are extremely slow.
We did receive an upgraded room, which was nice. It had a view of Lake Conroe - although it wasn't the prettiest view, it was comparable to looking out and seeing a parking lot. We received a room with 2 beds that had a living room area that also had a sleeper sofa. The room was decorated with nautical themes and even included water knobs in the shape of whale tails. The air vent in our restroom was concerning as it was filled with tons of dust that could've been easily wiped off by housekeeping.
The water park is super small - nothing like how the internet makes it. Also, there are no life vests available, so bring your own if your kiddo doesn't know how to swim well. Anyhow, there are only 4 main attractions - the kids area, the pool with 2 slides, the infinity pool area, and the small lazy river. The water in all but 1 pool area is a cool 90-100 degrees - WHY would they make it so hot?! We are in TEXAS! The only pool area that had somewhat refreshing, coolish water was the kids area.
For what we paid, I feel as though we were ripped off for the reasons aforementioned and below. Cleanliness wasn't apparent either; the lazy river had trash all over the trail outside of the water area which didn't include all of the additional debris in the water. The heated pools had cloudy, dirty water. Surprisingly, the cleanest pool area here was the kids area.
Also, there were no towels available for use the entire first day we were there - even after checking multiple times! Again, there were excuses after excuses as to why none were available. We were left shivering after getting out of the pool.
On the second day of our stay, the kiddos wanted to play arcade games in their arcade room. We went in, bought a card from the vending machine, played one game and then the card stopped working. I asked an employee for assistance and she referred me downstairs to the main lobby. Upon going downstairs to speak with a host, they told me there "was nothing they could do", but they did offer me credit to the bill, which I took.
Also, after previously visiting other water parks such as Schlitterbahn and Kalahari, I had high expectations for safety as it pertains to life guards. There was only ONE lifeguard on site at Margaritaville and it was ONLY during times that the slides were in use. This was appalling! Many families just stay in one area and let their children run around alone - what if they were to drown?! I can't imagine. This is a HUGE factor in us not planning to return.
Also, if you do plan on visiting, be well aware that there aren't any decent food establishments close by. We had to drive several miles outside of the resort just to be near a handful of mom and pop restaurants. There are food options on site, but the reviews are pretty bad.
After reading all of the Yelp reviews, and the "general manager" replying to most, you'd think that SOME sort of change would've been made with all of the complaints - it appears that the manager is all talk though.
Do yourself a favor and book elsewhere!
