Maria Empanada is a Denver classic that never seems to lose its stride. I remember watching them on Food Network a decade ago, longing for their empanadas when I lived in Florida. Maria Empanada was one of my first stops when I moved to Denver, and I've been eating here ever since.
The LoHi/Platte St. location isn't the OG, but it's the quintessential Argentinian cafe. The restaurant is gorgeous, bright and cozy. The beautiful stained glass behind the counter sets you up for your meal. We think of empanadas as food on the go, but at this particular location it's worth dining in!
I can proudly say I've tried every empanada. Please hold your applause! If I had to narrow it down, these are my top choices you can't skip.
+Beef - the classic empanada flavor is rich, savory, and delectable. Paired with the chimichurri it's the perfect bite.
+Caprese - as an Italian, this is my kryptonite. Basil, tomato and mozzarella. Whoever thought of this flavor combination inside of an empanada should be running this country.
+Sierra - I love a little kick, and this one does the trick. Tender shredded chicken and smoky chipotles are chef's kiss.
+Spinach - this is the most underrated one if you ask me. Loaded with spinach, cheese and a wonderful béchamel.
+Napoli - their newest flavor only here for a limited time! Wine braised beef with tomato, cheese and oregano. Woah, flavor bomb!
Going to Maria Empanada is like visiting an old friend. It suddenly transports you to great memories, while making you question why you don't get together more often. I absolutely love Maria Empanada!
