Coming here for the first time. Did make a reservation and got seated even though parties were not complete yet. Service was great, the staff was very friendly. The food was great, and it came out fast too. Cute tiny comfy place. One of the staff came up and chatted with us, and we found out that this place just opened a few months ago. Should try this place if you're in the area.

Maria Mulata is the place to go. It is an absolute beautiful place with amazing food and drinks!. The service is absolutely amazing and the Owner is very attentive and always making sure her customers are being taken good care off. Came here with family and will definitely be coming back. The appetizers were delicious and let me not get started on the entrees !. My family and I were so happy with everything and can’t wait to come back !

Food feels authentic and tastes good: the drinks were good. Service was a little laid back at first but then picked up. Very friendly guys. Nice decor and clean. Not too crowded. Prices felt a little high. The front and interior door did not close completely, so every time someone came in it was a little chilly and someone (usually one of us) had to push the door closed. Not a big deal. Overall a good experience.

Breath deeply. Walk inside. Andy is behind the bar greeting you, waiting for your order, anxious to listen and tell stories. I was hungry for margaritas, I got it. In the end I had an espresso, I was SURPRISED. Unfortunately, google doesn’t let me give 10 stars. Wonderful.

TLDR: overpriced, portions not worth the unreasonably high price, food was bland. Owner was great, the son will eavesdrop on your conversations and yell at you Came here for a friend's birthday (she chose the location). The server Luis was an absolute gem. He was funny, attentive and welcoming. The food took 40 minutes to be served entrees the size of appetizers. We ordered the bandeja paisa (the only dish worthy to be called an entree), garlic shrimp which was mediocre and the red snapper in coconut sauce which was absolutely bland. I asked for salt and pepper which helped. It was my first meal of the day and I had to get home to so the babysitter could get home early in a school night, so I opted to just eat my meal instead of waiting 40 minutes for a new dish. While we were finishing our drinks, my friend asked me what my opinion was as I worked as a chef and am FROM Columbia. I told her I found the experience to be a far cry from the rich food our culture has to offer and what I thought each dish lacked at which point, the kid working as a host stormed over and snapped at us about how rude and disrespectful we were. I told him to relax and that I would still pay and leave a tip. He still berated us and I asked to speak to the owner. I politely explained to his mother the situation, told her that he needed to mind his business if he didn't know how to approach customers with a solution- oriented mindset. She was very kind, did all she could to make it right and offered us flan on the house (it was delicious). The bill was paid, a good tip left but had the son kept his mouth shut, this review wouldn't have been written. Normally I give peeves a second chance because people can have off days, but not this time

This place was dimly lit and very intimate! They make the most of the small space, and our server was so friendly and attentive. My friend and I came at 6pm on a weekday and were seated immediately. We split the arepas montaditas, 1/2 roasted chicken, and seafood rice. The arepas montaditas were loaded with meat, and each one was so flavorful. The 1/2 roasted chicken was smaller than we expected, especially for the price. It was on the sweeter side, which threw us off, and it was a little dry on its own. However, the guac was absolutely delicious, and we regretted not getting the guac starter. The seafood rice was our favorite thing we ordered! The portion size and amount of seafood were perfect, and it was packed with umami flavor. We also got the tres leches for dessert, which was rich and very yummy!

Really poor experience for lunch today. Service was incredibly slow, guacamole was really cold (clearly in fridge prior) and needed salt. The shrimp dish was cold and way over cooked. The server was very apologetic and explained they had an issue with the computer system but we didn't know this until after the fact. Unfortunately due to the slow service and poor tasting food, I would not recommend this location. As for aesthetic, it's very pretty inside.

My husband and I go to different restaurants in Manhattan most Saturday nights for date night, and Maria Mulata was an incredible find. Drinks - delicious and potent using purées from native Colombian fruits. We had the guacamole with plantain chips and fresh plantains for our appetizers, both fabulous. We had one of the authentic Colombian steak dishes as well as the short ribs. My husband loved the steak, and I can't say enough about how delicious and tender the short ribs were. And the desserts! The flan and tres leches were both delicious, but if they have the chocolate cake special with native cacao, served with fresh coconut ice cream, get it! The service and atmosphere were extraordinary. The food actually seemed five star, but more reasonably priced. We can't wait to return.

The food is sensational here. I was not familiar with Columbian food but now I am and love it. I had the avocado & tomato salad to start. We had grilled salmon with a delicious corn puree & a steak dish cooked to perfection for our main courses. The wine list is extensive and offers lots of variety. The specialty cocktails are great, too. The intimate, elegant yet festive atmosphere is perfect for date night or to catch up with a few friends. There is a great singer/guitar player who performs on Tuesdays which is the perfect touch. The charming Chef came out to say hello and to chat with us. He was very personable and engaging (& really talented!!). This is the perfect addition to this upper east side neighborhood. There is nothing like it around. Run don't walk to Maria Mulata. I will be returning here often.

I found Maria Mulata cozy and intimate. There's only about 6 tables, 3 booths and 3 or so high bar tables. The staff is friendly and engaging. I opted for a small appetizer of maduro with arepa sauce, the maduro was perfectly cooked however I thought the sauce was too sweet to be served with an otherwise sweet maduro. My buddy had montaditos on arepitas and they were very good. They were out of the ceviche altogether. Main course I had a Salgado served with a cup of rice on the side, it was perfect, flavorful and an adequate portion. Colombian restaurants tend to serve huge amounts of food, Maria Mulata thankfully does not. My buddy opted for the tamal and he enjoyed it. We shared a desert of tres leches and it was good, moist and dense. My buddy wanted non alcoholic beer but there wasn't any available. I had a vodka to start and my chosen brand was available then I had white wine with dinner and the selection was small but decent. I rated Maria Mulata 4 stars because the place was a bit warm even with fans and AC units on, rating should be 4.5 stars. I will return to further explore the menu and will definitely recommend.

Incredibly delicious and authentic Colombian food at upper east side prices lol. Deserves 5 stars but it's hard to with that location! Definitely worth a visit.

Drinks were amazing!!! The services was 10000/100 thanks Nicolas!! The aesthetic look and the music that was just the perfect volume made everything even better. Would definitely go back to try other stuff on the menu! Appreciated the shots also!

We wanted to try this new Columbian restaurant and we were not disappointed. Decor is modern, waiters were nice and discrete and the food was amazing. Cherry on the cake, they gave us a delicious tres leches dessert on the house! Definitively a great spot in UES. We'll go back with friends.

GREAT brand new addition to the neighborhood! Just opened, a sophisticated chef is clearly in the kitchen, perfect tender skirt steak, juicy & flavor-packed roast chicken - We'll be back for the rest of the menu.

I do not recommend this place at all They're doing a terrible representation of Colombian food. I ordered a simple roasted chicken which tasted like hospital food (zero spices nor condiments), not well cooked. And to top it all, they advertise 1/2 and is actually 1/4

You are greeted as you are family . The bartender server Nicholas makes awesome drinks . The food is delicious. I have had the chicken with rice beans & salad . Super tasty . My Mom came here on her frequent trips to NY . She usually does not like going out to eat to Latin restaurants. We are Spanish and I can honestly say " La mama Cocina Muy BUENO " ( Mom cooks really good !! ) For her to say "I want to come back here " before we even left was awesome . She was super impressed with the Rice Beans . She said the steak with onions had a great taste . Great wine list, pretty ambiance , superb flavorful entrees.

Could be better. Meat quality not the best. The ny strip steak looked grey. Skirt steak had a lot of fat. Empanada were frozen not fresh.
