Mario's Bohemian Cigar Store Cafe

I’ve been sleeping on this place, not sure what took me so long to stop by the meatball sandwich is the real deal! This was legit the best meatball sandwich I’ve ever had! The fresh soft focaccia, perfectly melted cheese, unique huge meatballs, and side of Peperoncino for acidity between bites is a killer combination. I had come here before and had just the espresso (pretty good) no idea why I hadn’t gotten the sandwich until now. You can either dine in for a charming bar experience or get it to go and you’re 10 steps from the park. It’s a Fairly priced, huge, high quality sandwich that needs no substitutions / additions. One of the best overall sandwiches I’ve had in SF, if not the best. The meatballs almost tasted charbroiled some how, and the sauce wasn’t soaked in salt like many Italian places in SF. I will one hundred percent come back and get this again, this is the real deal in North Beach.

Gracious but glacial service because it’s good food , not fast food; While sitting outdoors , take in the scene : trailing vapors of airplanes in clear blue skies, birds flying high as the church bells toll for all souls ; Listen to the cafe’s music piped to the outdoors area where I park myself with a book and order a local craft beer with a basket focaccia bread. Friendly service from Eviah and Berra and Damien and Will. For vegetarians, best is breaded eggplant ! Love the cooking of Generro and the cooking of Semic.

Simply the best place in North Beach and SF. Bar is a great vibe and outside seating. Great beer and wine. Food is excellent. If you are Italian and don’t go here, I feel bad for you. Best atmosphere and food. Mario’s for the win.

I'm not rating the establishment food related service, but I want to clarify for my fellow cigar aficionados. This place does not sell cigars nor offer any tobacco-related services; it simply retains the legacy name.

cute little place to sightsee, drinks and food are good but the views and ambience is cool.

The Grilled Chicken #2 Baked Sandwich was phenomenal. The chicken was seasoned very well, and it was juicy and tender. Amazing homemade focaccia. Overall, an enjoyable sandwich and something I would order again. The service was rather slow, I wouldn’t come if I was in a rush. Sandwiches are the thing to get here.

Nice little cafe at a corner in North Beach. I had the breakfast croissant, focaccia basket and coffee, while my friend had the sausage pizza. The food was good, but the service could be a little bit better, as we had to get their attention at times to get more things like water and the bill.

If there is such a thing as a life-changing sandwich, this eggplant parm sandwich is it - the focaccia, the marinara sauce, everything. Charming atmosphere inside and a nice little dining area outside overlooking the park, the two guys working were super welcoming and friendly, the lemon Italian soda was yum, food portion was generous, the music was great. Zero complaints. Go!
