"One of the best ways to experience Los Angeles, to me, is pulling up to a food truck on a busy street and plopping down on a plastic stool with a spread of half the menu. Not all food trucks are built the same, but one definitely worth scoping out is Mariscos El Faro (which has locations in Highland Park and Culver City). You’ll find seafood splendors galore — from octopus cocteles loaded with diced cucumbers and a Clamato broth to zippy tuna tostadas and Baja-style fried fish tacos. My favorite dish of the bunch were the empanadas de camaron, a crispy pocket of shrimp and cheese topped with a sliver of avocado that’s especially good with lashings of hot sauce. Wash everything down with a cold bottle of Mexican Coke to complete the experience. — Kat Thompson, audience editor, Eater Southern California/Southwest" - Matthew Kang

"Pulling up to this seafood truck rewards you with a galore of oceanic splendors, from octopus cocteles loaded with diced cucumbers in Clamato broth to zippy tuna tostadas and Baja-style fried fish tacos. The standout for me is the empanadas de camaron—a crispy pocket stuffed with shrimp and cheese, crowned with a sliver of avocado and especially good with generous lashings of hot sauce. Pair the spread with an ice-cold Mexican Coke and you’re set; with trucks in Highland Park and Culver City, it’s well worth scoping out." - Eater Staff
"Mariscos El Faro is a Sinaloa-style seafood truck that will convince you to stay well past your 30-minute lunch break. Located outside a park off Figueroa, the truck sets up a few tables and stools on the sidewalk where you can enjoy an ice-cold michelada, fresh oysters, and their signature aguachile in a Clamato-y sauce with big heat from crushed chiltepín chiles. Everything we've tried from the truck's impressively large menu is delicious, which explains our tendency to over-order when we come here (and take a nap under a tree at the park afterward)." - brant cox, sylvio martins, andrew ryce, cathy park
"Life in Los Angeles is fast-paced, even when you’re going 15 mph on the 110. That’s why we need places like Mariscos El Faro to remind us to slow down and enjoy a leisurely lunch. This Highland Park food truck parks on a quiet street beside a park flanked by shady trees. A friendly mother-and-son duo set up a few plastic tables and stools, so you can sit down with a salt-cured sea bass tostada that tingles your lips with chiltepín, oysters doused with Valentina, and a crisp michelada that tastes twenty times better under the sun. And once you finish the mound of shrimp you ordered, maybe take a nap on the grass." - brant cox, garrett snyder, jess basser sanders, nikko duren, sylvio martins, cathy park
"For a decade, this Highland Park truck has been parked at the same quiet public park, making it a perfect spot to grab mariscos to go or stick around for a long lunch when you want to play hooky. A lot of the flavors in El Faro's michelada remind us of the tangy salsa roja found on the truck's signature aguachile, which has a refreshing tomato-heavy, clam broth base we're really into. These miches are never too salty or spicy because they're definitely more "chela" than mix. That's fine with us, especially on an afternoon at the park—errr, we mean lunch break." - sylvio martins
