19 Splendid Seafood Restaurants to Try Around Los Angeles

"The deep-fried tacos de cameron from Mariscos Jalisco are an iconic Los Angeles dish. Still, don’t sleep on the rest of the menu from this legendary seafood truck, which has a few locations around town. The cocteles are outstanding, as are the mixed seafood tostadas, which are served atop a crispy tortilla with packets of Tapatío on the side." - Rebecca Roland, Eater Staff

The 14 Most Important Jonathan Gold Reviews in Los Angeles, Mapped - Eater LA

"The critic would put tens of thousands of miles annually on his iconic truck to hunt down what are now largely considered some of the city’s best tacos: “The truck is parked in its usual spot, and we acquire paper platesful of the tacos, fried crisp around the edges but pliable toward their bellies, drenched with a fresh chop of tomatoes and onions, with ripe avocado on the side. The taco tastes of salt and corn and clean oil, and then, as you crunch through it, of fresh shrimp. I ask Ortega where he buys his seafood, and as always he changes the subject. I conjecture whether the slight creaminess around the shrimp comes from potatoes, bechamel or cheese, and as always, he smiles and shrugs. They are his secrets. He hopes they will make his daughters rich.” [LAT]" - Crystal Coser

Love this seafood taco truck! Shrimp tacos are my fave!

Josh Ragland

Google
I’m not sure where I found Mariscos Jalisco, but I’m thankful I found them and went to visit them! Stopped by there truck around 1030 on a Friday and there was no line. I got the Taco De Camaron and the Aguachile Tostada. The taco was delicious but be aware, eat it sideways. The Aguachile tostada was very flavorful with a nice spice to it. All in all, both items were very filling. The service was great. I got my items quickly and enjoyed sitting around eating on a nice morning.

Google
I come here for the shrimp tacos they're so good. Is a must when I'm in the area. I always get three of them hot and fresh, they come with hot sauce and half an avocado on the side.

Yelp
I love these shrimp tacos! This is a regular go-to for me and my family. The seafood is always fresh and the tacos have a good crunch even after around an hour drive home. I also LOVE the salsa. It pairs perfectly with the shrimp tacos and isn't spicy. They are really generous with the salsa side and avocado for to go orders. I'll usually stop by this location around 2:30pm during the week and can easily find street parking. The truck is usually not too busy during this time which is perfect since I order around 15-25 to take home for dinner with extended family.

Yelp
THE BEST SEAFOOD TRUCK EVER. I absolutely love their Poseidon! The shrimp tacos are also very good. It's a truck located on Olympic with other seafood trucks. You order at the truck (CASH ONLY) and have the option to eat in the indoor space available. There are enough tables and a restroom available as well. Quick service and the staff here are hard-working and awesome! Street parking only.

Yelp
One of Johnathan Gold's favorite spots in LA. But frankly I couldn't understand the hype. To me, everything from the chilled soup to ceviche, the aquachille, the tostada pretty much all tasted the same. The "dining room" was also full of flies and smelled disgusting. I'd go to Holbox instead any day.

Yelp
I've been here now 4-5x and will keep coming back. At $2.50+tax per taco de camarón, you can't beat the price. Perfectly crunchy, savory, warm and bursting in flavor. It is seasoned and cooked to perfection. Don't forget to squeeze some lime on top and add hot sauce to your liking. We also tried the shrimp taco at the food truck down the block but prefer this one more. CASH ONLY. Be sure to come prepared with cash. You order at the food truck but they have plenty of indoor seating with access to restrooms (gives off hole-in-the-wall feel but it adds to the ambiance). Quick service. No parking lot but we've never had trouble finding street parking.

Yelp
It hits the spot every time! My go to is the shrimp cocktail and a fried taco. The seafood taste good and never had a quality issue. The Poseidon tostada is delicious but its pretty spicy!! If you cam handle heat try their red aguachile.
google avatar

Eric L.

Yelp
There are other places that make the fried shrimp taco, but no other place is this good. I wish Mariscos Jalisco will sign up for a food delivery app. Ive been having to order deliver at lesser places to satisfy my cravings.

Yelp
FIRE TACOS!!!! Wow I'm blown away at the deliciousness of these street tacos - fried shell filled with juicy shrimp, potatoes and more. Local food truck with fast service and casual vibes - perfect for a quick bite. I went on a Friday which is supposed to be closed according to Yelp but I was happy to see it open! :)

Yelp
if you want to try the best shrimp tacos, then this is the mariscos jaliscos, the best campachana is also here. I am a big fan of this restaurant, everything is just clean and neat, there is also a toilet inside and tables where you can comfortably eat. The bus is located on East Olympic Blvd Los California.

Yelp
Stop #3 on our self guided taco tour of LA was this spot. We wound up here after seeing it on Ugly Delicious. We went with the Taco de Cameron which is what they're known for. It was hands down the best taco we had that day. I loved the crispy shell, the sauce, and the shrimp. Parking is a bit challenging. We were able to find street parking a few blocks away. If you want tacos in LA, this is your spot!
google avatar

Yelp
Solid 4.5 for this mariscos truck. In my opinion they have the best aguachile. First off, the aguachile here is spicy just like how aguachile suppose to be. They shrimp tacos here are cooked crisp to perfection.
google avatar

Cuche S.

Yelp
The tacos de camarón are god send omg, I'll eat here every time I'm in the area. Too bad is cash only but other than that the food is perfect
google avatar

Yelp
The best shrimp tacos and aguachiles! Always fresh and never disappoint. Their fish ceviche is also a must.

Jaime A.

Yelp
I was not happy with the service. Poor customer service. Lady taking the orders was rude and seemed unhappy. The campechana tasted like ketchup mixed with water. The hard shell camaron tacos were 99% mashed potatoes with a bland flavor. One star rating. Had better service and Mexican seafood.
google avatar

Yelp
Best Shrimp Tacos EVERRRR!!! Service was quick & good, indoor place was clean with clean bathrooms. Definitely coming again and ordering tacos to go!!

Yelp
Some of my fave tacos in LA. The frito dorado (deep fried) shrimp tacos are amazing. They've been noted by several publications as some of the best tacos in LA. At $2.25 per taco, this was likely the most affordable place to eat on (dearly departed) Jonathan Gold's annual list of 101 Best Restaurants in LA. Their trucks specialize in seafood, and everything I've had was excellent. The aguachile is very spicy and tastes so good. The Poseidon is a tostada topped with ceviche, octopus and shrimp in a spicy dark red sauce, and it's delicious. The seafood cocktails are fine. I haven't noticed any difference in operations at the food trucks since the pandemic. They've always had their condiments in the truck, which they'll happily provide when asked, unlike so many taco stands that continue to put condiments out on a community table with everyone using the same serving ladles for sauces and such. The original location is on Olympic in East LA. There's a dining room in addition to a short wall one can perch on. I like to go to the truck that parks on 10th & Towne in the Fashion District. They also post up in Gardena, Pomona, and lately on La Cienega just north of the 10 Fwy. Same menu, prices may vary slightly, all the food is awesome.

Yelp
Pre-COVID review. This place had been on my list for such a long time that I was sort of sad I didn't get to experience it while I was a grad student in LA before moving back up to the Bay Area. During a spontaneous trip to LA in September 2019, I was so happy to have finally bit the bullet and gone to Mariscos Jalisco. There's parking along side streets and also behind the building where their dining area is. I opted to sit on the cement block (you'll know what I mean when you go there). The menu is a banner tied to a tree and you order from the truck (CASH ONLY!). I went with what Jonathan Gold recommends - the Poseidon and the tacos dorado de cameron (Fried shrimp taco). The Poseidon was pretty dang spicy for a guy with medium spice tolerance. It's essentially a tostada filled with shrimp ceviche, shrimp aguachile, red onion, and tons of perfectly cooked octopus topped with and avocado slices. I really relied on the avocado to keep my tongue cool from the insanely spicy salsa. I would only get it again if I could tolerate the spice, but I encourage you to try (and maybe split with one other person). The tacos dorado del cameron were so divine, that I'd consider them one of the best foods I've ever eaten so far. The competitor, Mariscos 4 Vientos is just down the block and also serves this dish, but I prefer the one at Mariscos Jalisco. Simply put, I think I like the juicier shrimp and the more robust salsa they serve here. You cannot miss this! I'll definitely come back, but know that this is a bit of a trek since it's deep in East LA. But, when you come here, you might as well just go on a huge taco adventure since you can try here, Mariscos 4 Vientos, and one of several places serving birria tacos in the area. Just be aware that some of the birria places close early. Finally CASH ONLY. You know it's good when it's like that.

Yelp
Best tacos dorados in Los Angeles in my opinion. HOUSE HABANERO CHILE IS A MUST (if you can handle a bit of heat) I don't know what the red colored chile (aka hot sauce for my fellow guerros) they serve with their plates, but it has no heat and doesn't "pump up the flavor" like their house habanero does. $3.50 for a bottle, and I recommend buying one with your meal. Oysters are usually f***ing fresh. (I have to use an expletive because it's true) I am not an oyster guy, and I actually crave them from here. This is like a 30+ year old business in LA. I think they started in Boyle Heights by the sears building (Soto & Olympic) but all the locations seem to be equal in flavor and freshness. The owner Raul and his team do tacos dorados de Cameron better than anyone in Los Angeles in my opinion. If you are a fan of mariscos (again, seafood for my whyte ppl ) all locations are friendly, appear clean, I've never been sick from their food (I've eaten it so so so many times) and the flavors are phenomenal.
google avatar

Vince L.

Yelp
Flavorless. Worse part is the fish was not fresh at all. Octopus was chewy and the shrimp tasted frozen. Overrated
google avatar

Jacqueline L.

Yelp
Best ceviche I've ever had! Very generous with the amount they give. Definitely need to try this place if you're out in LA!

Brends T.

Yelp
Need you guys in my area. Carson., PLS!!! Your tacos ate beyond delicious. The folks on this area is in need of this experience SO GOOD!!!

Yelp
The address seems wrong! This truck is on Olympic next to to cuatro vientos mariscos. Any ways I absolutely love this food truck. It is cash only so com prepared. They have an ATM in the sitting area inside but who wants ATM fees! The service is always amazing, fast and precise. Everyone has always been super friendly with me. Their food is 5 out of 5 Stars I would give them 10 stars if I could. Shrimp tacos: 5 STARS These are not your typical tacos...they are deep fried! They are topped with some salsa made of tomato tiny spice, cilantro and I believe little pieces of fish. Oh and AVOCADO!!!!! How can you go wrong?! Ceviche: 4 STARS I like their shrimp ceviche. They load that tostada up!!! You will need at least one additional tostada. Poseidon: 5 STARS This a tostado de ceviche mixto (scallops, octopus, shrimp and fish) with agua Chile's on top! WARNING: it is super spicy!! Their aguachiles are red and more spicy than the typica agua Chile's! They offer bottled and canned drinks. They have a good amount of tables if you plan to eat there.
google avatar

Maggie Y.

Yelp
Best shrimp tacos I've ever had! $2.25 for the most epic tacos ever! I think they wrap up the tortilla with the shrimp and then deep fry them? If you check in on yelp, you get a free shrimp tacos! Bet you can't just have one. Also tried the shrimp ceviche tostadas! Keep in mind they only have shrimp tacos, and seafood ceviche. No meats.
google avatar

Hong N.

Yelp
OBSESSED with their shrimp aguachile. Shrimp tacos are a must. The 45 min drive to eat here is always worth it.
google avatar

Mindy T.

Yelp
AMAZING HARD SHELL SHRIMP TACOS. AMAZING. Get at least two of these here and three if you're really hungry. Note that it is cash only! The shrimp tacos are kind of creamy in the inside with pieces a shrimp and refreshing on the outside with salsa and avo. The shrimp ceviche is also really good here. There's a lot of seating inside after you place your order at the trunk so no need to sit outside in the LA heat.
google avatar

Jennifer K.

Yelp
** FOREWARNING** They have multiple locations that serve different things! We went to the location on Towne Street and they don't have oysters. But that didn't stray us and we intended to stay, because our eyes were locked for the shrimp tacos. I'll keep this short and detailed. Their tacos de camaron will leave you lost in your dreams, floating around in the galaxy. The shell is golden crisp, and the shrimp paste is still moist and soft regardless of the outer layer being fried. They demonstrated that this can be done since I have yet to witness a phenomena, absolutely delicious. For our next encounter, we'll be satisfied with ordering strictly the tacos and passing on the ceviche. The Poseidon was good but it was hectic with a lot of things going on in toppings (chunks of octopus, raw shrimp, avocado, and the douse of hot sauce). TIP: CASH ONLY
google avatar

Grace C.

Yelp
BEST SHRIMP DORADOS!! Thats the only thing I get from this truck and it has the best deep fried shrimp tacos!! Topped with a special salsa, avocado, add tapatio and lime! Sooo good and so simple! 5/5 would highly recommend
google avatar

Bill H.

Yelp
Holy moly! I SEA-FOOD! On our way back from a job assignment, my cousin the foodhound has managed to sniff out another hit. A seafood taco truck filled with culinary wonders we ordered their signature Shrimp tacos, the Posieden, and a half a dozen raw Oysters. Right off the bat we started attacking the Oysters - some have Shrimp in it, some have Octopus...chilled in ice. With lime and hot sauce...holy smokes, what a treat! And perfect on hot day. The next was the Posieden, a tostada packed with fish, octopus, shrimp, onions, chopped tomatoes, and cilantro! With their hot sauce and lime it was one spicy meal! And of course, the last but not least were their killer Shrimp tacos...crunchy, fried, and delicious! They were bomb! Add more lime and hot sauce and it's a fiesta in your mouth! Wow what a way to end a Friday work day! Highly recommended!
google avatar

Alex H.

Yelp
Came during COVID, no issues. Ordered the shrimp tacos, ceviche, and the Poseidon. Shrimp tacos - 10/10 highly recommend, super crunchy shell with delicious filling. Comes with salsa on the side to dip and avocado which only make it better. Poseidon - 10/10 a ton of octopus on this which was great. Definitely spicier than expected so maybe not recommended for people who can't handle it. Ceviche - 8/10 super fresh and very citrusy. Honestly was pretty full after the other 2 but I had the leftovers as it's own meal.

Yelp
So I'm allergic to shrimp.. and avocado.. But with a little help from antihistamines albeit risking a huge allergy attack, I still HAD to try Mariscos Jalisco's Shrimp Tacos! NO RAGURTS, GUYS. Probably one of the best shrimp tacos I've had in my life. That shrimp in a handmade tortilla which is then fried to perfection so you could enjoy the contrast between the soft filling and a crunchy wrap. Legit down to go for another taco run provided that I load up on allergy meds.
google avatar

Helen W.

Yelp
This was a food truck that had seating inside a building. We made a stop here on our drive down to Disneyland. We got the crispy shrimp tacos and ceviche with tostada. The shrimp tacos were delicious and I could've eaten more. The ceviche was just ok to me, the shrimp meat was on the dryer side but the flavor was good.
google avatar

Jack M.

Yelp
David Chang said these shrimp tacos were the best thing he had in a long time. They weren't even the best thing I had that day. I ordered two shrimp tacos. They come freshly fried. The order is very light on shrimp and really doesn't have much shrimp flavor at all. The primary flavor of the taco is some type of fake onion breading filler that almost does take like an asian dumpling. Overall unimpressed with the shrimp tacos though they did have a pleasant mouthfeel and some interesting fresh flavors.
google avatar

Lap G.

Yelp
Best truck for mariscos tacos in LA PERIOD. Always fresh, fast service, consistent and affordable.
google avatar

Vinh N.

Yelp
The famous shrimp tacos are damn good. Crispy, slightly oily shell with warm, tender shrimp on the inside. A fresh salsa with creamy slices of avocado all on top with a wedge of lime. The taco is balanced in all aspects; soft and crispy, spicy and acidic, hot and cool... it's just good.
google avatar

Andrew F.

Yelp
They popped up at The Hundreds Warehouse sale and my sister said we MUST try their food. We got 12 shrimp tacos and... it. Lives. Up. To. The. HYPE. The taco shell is perfectly crispy from the fry. The outsides had a super good salsa spread on one side of the taco with beautiful slices of avocado. The insides have a mash potato like texture that tastes like shrimp and seafood. BOMB.
google avatar

Elias B.

Yelp
One of my favorite food trucks for many reasons but to be short, fried shrimp tacos, ceviche and incredibly unique Ensenada style seafood. Every time in the area, I stop by for some tacos and tostadas.
google avatar

Anna C.

Yelp
Cash only taco Spot in Boyle Heights they serve only seafood tacos and tostadas so come here ready to consume lots of ocean deliciousness. There is a nice spot inside to eat so Come and enjoy some of the best seafood tacos in LA. The pricing is also very reasonable and serves a good quantity of food for the price.

Yelp
Work wife 2 told me she wanted to try Mexican seafood for lunch and found Mariscos Jalisco. We were going to go to the og outside downtown LA then realized there was a location in downtown. Heck, why waste gas if we didn't have to? I ordered shrimp tacos which seemed to be the most famous item, and tostada poseidon. If you are new to this location, yelp check in also gets you one free shrimp taco. The shrimp taco was indeed delicious! The shell was crispy and fried well. The filling inside looked like some kind of shrimp paste instead of full shrimp. It worked well texture wise due to the crispy shell and soft mushy center. The truck got pretty good hot sauces too so make sure to use it before biting into the deliciousness. Poseidon tostada was basically aquachile and ceviche combined on a tostada. The value was great because I got to try two things in one dish. Their aquachile was spicy and the octopus was tender, spicy, and I loved everything about it. Ceviche though, it was bland and just not exciting compared to other things we had. There were extra tostadas on the food truck side in case more tostada was needed. Everything was excellent, but it would probably be the best to make the orders to go since sitting under the sun wasn't an ideal experience for me. Work wife 2 said she really enjoyed the campechana cocktail and I must go back again to try!
google avatar

Mandi T.

Yelp
This place is the shiznit! The hype is true... especially when it's true, you really have to try their shrimp tacos, their cocktails, shoot, try one of each! The hubs went there with his work wives before he brought me - claimed that he was 'taste testing' to make sure that it's good. Commence eye roll. Anyways, your first visit, you get a free shrimp taco. Say what?!?!? Yup, let them know it's your first visit and they'll hook you up. It's deep fried goodness of shrimp and potato with salsa and avocado on top. So. Freaking. Good. Make sure you order another one with your free taco. We also got an aguachile, but be warned, it's SPICY. The mariscos in there are fresh and just everything is sooo delish! Everything is good and like I said, just order everything. They have their own hot sauce, plus many others lined up. Try at your own risk. Parking - street or paid lot. Food Truck with some seating on the side. Seriously not fancy, but seriously amazing and delicious. $, takes cc.

Yelp
Saw this food truck featured on Mark Wien food channel on YouTube, and the shrimp tacos looked amazingly good. So today I had the opportunity to try it out. Located on 10th St, between Townsend and Stanford Ave., close to the fashion district. Exact location can slightly change, depending on parking availability, but should be in the general area. Catering truck looked fairly clean, staffers were pleasant and helpful. Ordered 3 shrimp tacos. Little on the greasy side, but still doable, 2 out of the 3 tacos were quite good, you could still see, feel, and taste the fresh shrimps inside. But one taco, the internal filling was pretty much an over fried, dried crunchy mess. I believe the cook did the old, get rid of & hide the old taco among the fresh taco trick. Minus one star for that. Found out that if you order your tacos to go, you will have to add the salsa & avocado yourself, order it for here, the taco is complete and ready to eat. So knowing how good a fresh shrimp taco can taste, I would come back and hope that all my tacos are freshly made, 4 stars from me.
google avatar

Nijole T.

Yelp
The shrimp dorados tacos here are what dreams are made of. You cannot begin to describe the delicious explosion of flavors that goes on in your mouth once you take the first bite. Second thought is always, I should have ordered more, so please do. 3 tacos make a great meal, already topped with guacamole and pico, grab some napkins, that is all you will need. Made to order quickly, service is great, highly recommended!
google avatar

Helen K.

Yelp
HYPE IS REAL. Don't think this tastes like dim sum as David Chang so famously claimed, but it still tastes fantastic. The hot crispy fried tortilla and shrimp contrasting with the cool pico de gallo and avocado is such a treat for the senses. Service is really quick, and there are seats by the truck (though no tables). I ordered three shrimp tacos, because I was so hungry at the time of ordering, but I was full with two.
google avatar

Andy S.

Yelp
ok so forget about the shrimp tacos (which are bomb) or their ceviche (also bomb), they do a spicy ceviche covered in a habanero sauce that is so spicy and flavorful that I would put it on my shoe leather and eat it and be happy! I drive 45 minutes with no hesitation to have their food! I wish the truck covered a bigger distance! easily worthy of best in LA status!
google avatar

Michelle G.

Yelp
My friend's an LA native and she definitely knows the spots. I told her I wanted some good tacos, and so she took me here to Mariscos Jalisco, a food truck that people crowd around to get their fill of delicious tacos. My friend and I were blessed to get parking right in front of the truck, so after we ordered, we just ate on top of her trunk. The tacos dorados with shrimp are phenomenal. I would love the crunch of that yummy shrimp taco right now, and if I lived in LA I'd want to go here all the time. We also got a half a dozen oysters which were also good, but not the star of the show. We also got shrimp ceviche which was delicious, probably the best ceviche of my life. I also love the vibe of this place, just people coming here with their families and whomever to eat some good tacos. People sit on the steps or on their cars or around the truck, and it feels almost like a block party except you don't know everyone. Loved everything about this place, and I hope to find tacos this good in my own city.
google avatar

Orrin E.

Yelp
Yes - there are plenty of taco trucks in LA- but this one is definitely worth seeking out. We enjoyed everything that we ordered!
google avatar

Shelby C.

Yelp
David So's food videos does me so good again -- I often watch his videos and try and visit the spots he reviews that are near me and this time it led me to not only this food place but also the many 5 star worthy taco trucks on this street. (2.50) Shrimp Tacos -- holy shit!!! Must try. I really didn't think I would enjoy a deep fried taco as much as I did but once our table "cheered" our tacos and took our initial bite, it was literally followed in silence as we locked eyes in amazement of how good this was. The outer shell was so crunchy, while the inner shell had that satisfying moist feeling. Shrimp + sauce was so good. Honestly just try it. (9.50) 1/2 dozen prepared oysters -- Strictly the oysters were so fresh, probably the best I've had at a Mexican spot so far. The preparations on top were standard and nothing too crazy! Still 10/10 overall.
google avatar

Wilfredo Lopez L.

Yelp
So this place been around for while now! It's famously known for there shrimp tacos. So I went a few days ago had the shrimp tacos and the Poseidon tostada.. but honestly my favorite thing was Poseidon tostada!! Recommend this place

Yelp
All the Netflix buzz from this hole-in-the-wall food truck is soooo justified. Never before have I been so excited to travel through a questionable neighborhood to enjoy a wonderfully delicious meal. Even sitting on pink plastic stools on the sidewalk made the overall experience authentic. The seafood was amazingly fresh. Flavors explode in your mouth. Favorites: Tacos de Camaron, Coctel, Campechana & Ceviche de Camaron. Tacos de Camaron were perfectly crispy on the outside yet moist & oh so savory on the inside. The shrimp filling really did remind me of siu mai dim sum. My kids were fighting over the last drop of Campechana as we devoured our food with a sense of contentment only known to foodies who've struck gold. This food truck doesn't disappoint. I can't wait another minute until our next culinary adventure to Mariscos Jalisco.
google avatar

Yelp
Best shrimp tacos I've ever had! First found out about this place on Ugly Delicious on Netflix and made it a mission to try them out when I was in LA and it lived up to the hype for sure! I love the crispy outer shell sealing in the tender and perfectly cooked shrimp! You need to have this ASAP if you are a fan of shrimp tacos like I am!

Yelp
Who said that a rolling lunch truck can't have food as good as a restaurant... Well whoever that fool was they were wrong. I finally made it to Mariscos Jaliscos the other day after work and after a quick 5 minute drive east of Downtown I was ready to see what all the excitement was all about. I ordered 3 of their famous Shrimp Tacos and after waiting for about 45 seconds my order was ready. It was love a first crunchy bite. I loved how each crunchy taco was covered with avocado and salsa which started to soften the very crunchy taco. Every bite was shrimpy bliss, and after the third bite I had to stop and examine the sum of its parts a little closer. I sat there for a couple minutes like Sherlock Holmes trying to figure out the secret to their shrimp tacos. The inside had a ton of finely chopped shrimp with some onions, cilantro and tomatoes, but I could not figure out if any starch binders were added as well. I soon decided on this trip that I wouldn't be able to crack the code and that much more research was needed in the near future, Aloha
