The 25 Best Restaurants in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico | Eater

"The best fish taco in all of Mexico is actually sold out of this 35-year-old daytime-only taco stand. It’s a bold claim, but the elements that make up this “taco de dedo de pescado” back it up: a slightly oversized handmade corn tortilla that’s chewy and buttery on its own, a battered and fried-to-order strip of fresh mahi-mahi, and onions marinated in a Huichol-like salsa. The rest of the toppings are there too, with paper-thin shredded cabbage, salsa Mexicana (the name for pico de gallo-style salsa in Jalisco), guacamole, and as many squiggles of chipotle crema as your heart desires. Make sure to also try the rest of the seafood guisados like salpicón de jaiba (crab guisado), smoked marlin picadillo, and calamar a la diabla. The operation has two locations: a stand in Vallarta’s Zona Romántica and a small shop in the Versalles neighborhood." - Paola Briseño-González

Google
Second best cart place to get seafood tacos. The fried fish is dark fried and thick on the batter. This is one of a couple places that has crab, and it had great flavor. This is a definite try if you want to experience the unique difference of fish cooking styles throughout the culture.

Google
I watched videos read reviews and wanted to see for myself. The fish and shrimp tacos were the best tacos i had in PV (or anywhere) . They were Amazing. They also had a lot of salsas and sauces BUT the best part was the jalapeños and onions marinating in some sort of sweet soya sauce. We ate here twice till ours hearts were content 😌

Google
It’s one of the best taco street vendors in Puerto Vallarta. It’s on par with taco de cabeza a chilio which is just a few streets down. We heard about this place from a Mark Wiens video from YouTube and had to give it a try. We had the fish tacos both deep fried and grilled as well as the ceviche tostada. The key is that they provide lots of condiments that really add to the quality of the experience. Everything was excellent but when you add both their aoili and onion sauce, it sends the experience into another level!! This is an incredible food stop and a must try in PV. They do have seats and an outside area for seating as well as hand washing faucet. Prices are cheap as we spent around $6.50 per person including drinks. We highly recommend!!!

This was a stop on the Vallarta Eats Food Tour. ATMOSPHERE: This stand goes all out with covered seating for about 10 souls, including a hand washing station. MENU: Tacos, quesadillas, tostadas, calamari, marlin. BEVERAGE: Rice Water This was an odd drink. Rice is soaked in the water which gave it a subtle flavor. The liquid looked similar in color to iced coffee with lots of cream. Refreshing but not for me. FOOD: Mahi & Shrimp Tacos We received one of each. Both were battered tempura-style and served on soft corn tortillas. The batter flavor was very good, however I'm not a fan of seafood tacos. The fish was moist and tender. The shrimp was so long it stuck out of the tortilla on both ends. I'm not exactly sure how they possibly attached two shrimp together end-to-end. SERVICE: The ladies were extremely friendly and smiley. It's a well-oiled operation that ran smooth. TIP: I'm not sure if it's available to all, but our tour group was able to take a hands-on crash course on tortilla-making with the staff which involved rolling the dough and pressing it flat just right. OVERALL: Terrific choice for the seafood taco lover.

Google
Shrimp taco and agua fresca were my favorite. It was quite busy, so serving time was quite long. It could be a timing... the staff were great and nice!! English menu was available. Highly recommend.

Google
It's a little far from the tourist area but it's worth the walk there. They are some of the best tacos I've had in Mexico, good Spanish rock music, and good service from the girls.

Google
Loved this place. The food was so good. We ate here multiple times.

Google
Loved the fish tacos so much! 2 were plenty with the size of them The onions in soy were so good as was the green salsa. Both great on the tacos. Enjoyed a good Agua Fresca with it. Enjoyed watching them make it right there in front of you on the truck. My partner tried a ceviche tostada which wasn’t anything special but you come here for the fish tacos 🔥🔥

Yelp
They say they have the best fish tacos in PV and you know what, they're right. Worth getting over here for. Freshest fish possible. I guess they get fresh catches from the market every day. Very friendly.

Yelp
Cool little food stand tucked away in the Zona Romántica. Unless you go looking for it you will not come across it as it's away from the busy streets. Appreciated that they have a seating area to eat where they bring you salsas and cebollas. The fish tacos were delicious and very filling! Definitely recommend giving the place a try!

Yelp O.

Yelp
Tried the fish taco as well as the shrimp. Fish taco was slightly fishy but I thoroughly enjoyed the shrimp taco.

Yelp
My best friend introduced me to this taco stand. It is just a short walk away from our Airbnb but away from the beach. The Fish Tacos are made to order, crispy and moist, seasoned right. The Camarones Tostada is fresh and delicious. The ladies there are so helpful
google avatar

Yelp
Soo good! Some of the best fish tacos Ive had. They make everything fresh right in front of you. They have some delicious condiments to add to your tacos as well. The staff were really nice and attentive. Its just a small stand in some backstreets of PV but, when you find them you won!! Definitely worth trying!

Yelp
Catching up on reviews of places I tried while on a cruise about a month ago - I had great Mexican seafood in Cabo a couple days earlier, but it only had a couple days of being the best Mexican seafood I'd had, cause a couple days later, we were in PV, and this is definitely the best Mexican seafood I've had. Funny enough, being that we were only in PV for one meal, I found two places I equally wanted to try, this and one other taco street vendor a few blocks away, but we went here first, and the food was so good, and came out so quickly, I changed my mind last minute and just ordered more food here instead. Furthermore, I'd say, if I were back in PV on a cruise in the future, I'd want to try other places I hadn't tried yet, but there's a decent chance I'd just end up here instead, as really good, let alone good *and* fairly inexpensive for how good it is, Mexican seafood is hard to find in California. I would've loved to try everything on the menu, but everything we did try - marlin quesadilla, fried fish taco, squid stew, crab stew, the regular mixed ceviche tostada, all extremely good. Great agua fresca, too. I will also note, I was a little worried when I got there and it looked like they only had a couple seats - they were super busy, but there's more seating than it looks at first, so we didn't have trouble finding a place to sit. It is definitely still cash-only, though - and felt weird paying at the end, though that is apparently standard for street vendors in Mexico, unlike in the US. Anyway - very highly recommended.

Yelp
Marisma is famous for their crispy battered fish tacos so we had to stop by. We got the battered fish, battered shrimp, crab tomato stew tacos and the ceviche tostada. The battered fish which they make with Mahi Mahi was my favorite and great with the salsas and spicy mayo they have as condiments. The shrimp was good as well but I wish both were seasoned more. The crab stew taco was interesting but I thought it would have been better in stew form rather than a taco. The ceviche tostada was a fish tostada which we didn't expect. The flavor was ok but mostly finely ground fish with a ton of shredded carrots which threw me off The local food tours all stop here so come by on your own for the same experience.
google avatar

Yelp
Now with three locations in Puerto Vallarta it is safe to say Marisma Fish Taco has earned its accolades, the small stand in Zona Romantica still consistently turning out a wide range of Seafood on freshly made Tortillas from 10am until 6pm daily. Cash-only from the beginning, a laminated menu introducing guests to Tacos, Tostadas and Quesadillas, one must only take a seat and choose their protein before workers proceed to press Masa and sear it before to service. Offering Salsas, Onions and Sauces on the side, all chopped or made fresh daily, suffice it to say both Marlin and Crab Stews deliver bold balance while Shrimp and Fish smoked or seared taste best with a squeeze of citrus.

Yelp
The fish tacos win. Hard. The servers are on top of it. The tortillas are homemade and fresh. The roadside ambiance is authentic.
google avatar

Yelp
Simply the best in PV. Fresh made to order; the salsas are very authentic and good. The ladies at the place are fun and very nice; my whole family enjoyed the experience.

Yelp
One of our favorites in PV! Amazing fish tacos! They are huge. I got 2 but could only eat 1.5 of them even though it was delicious! While the batter was good, I would try a la plancha next time too. The agua fresca they had when we went was the best we had in PV, they told us it was pineapple and celery (pina en appio). We even went back just for the agua fresca. Service is great, the women are super nice. They have a little area to sit down too.

Yelp
We tried 10 taco restaurants/ taco stands in our trip in PVR but this was actually the only spot that had served fried fish taco out of the 10 that we had tried. The fried fish and fried shrimp were essentially the same. But we prefer the fish because you can't really taste the shrimp under the thick batter. The pickled carrots and cabbage paired well. The ceviche with avocado tostada was good and refreshing. It was worth it. 50 pesos for a huge taco. We would definitely return to Marisma when in PVR.

Yelp
First came here to this fish taco cart during a guided taco tour and was happy to find it again on our next vacation. Still as good as I remember it and the fried fish was excellent. I am picky about that and wish I would have done it the first time (we came here twice). I will warn you tacos are larger then normal so keep that in mind when ordering. Between the 5 of us we tried a lot of the menu. I do think the fish parts were the favorite. I do like to stand back for a bit and look at other orders coming out to help make my decision on how much and what to order.

Yelp
10000/10! This place was recommended by our uber deiver and boy was he right! The food was delicious and prepared fresh right in front of us! I would highly recommend the quesadilla and shrimp tacos! The salsas are also so good. The women working there were so fun to talk to and they gave us great recommendations for authentic restaurants in the area. The stand is a bit off the beaten path in Zona Romantica but it was definitely worth the walk! Yum yum yum!

Yelp
Excellent. Small family business near the tunnel. Awesome fish and shrimp tacos. Second time here

Yelp
Little street taco spot with amazing ceviche and fried fish tacos. Take the walk. You won't regret it.

Yelp
Dorado fish taco. Mahi mahi? Or is dorado? Or is it fried (dorado)? Or is it golden in color? (Also dorado..) Whatever it is, it's incredibly tasty here and the service was prompt. Fish was so fresh. And served so hot! Highly recommend!
google avatar

Yelp

Yelp
Tried this for the first time off the recommendation of a friend who has visited PV before. It is a marisco stand in La Zona Romántica with bar style seating. The menu was not too complicated and they have a few different variations of fish/shrimp options for tacos, quesadillas, and tostadas. Prices were very reasonable, you can get your grub on without breaking the bank. Perfect if you are about to have a night on the town and need a late lunch to satisfy the hunger you built up walking the cobblestone roads. It's clean and served relatively quickly considering they are cooking everything right in front of you. Food Rating: Ceviche tostada: 4/5 Fried fish taco (pescado capeado): 4/5 Grilled shrimp quesadillas (camarón a la plancha): 5/5 Overall you won't go wrong venturing towards the hills for this stand. It certainly hits the spot and is clearly a staple in the area. However I wasn't particularly blown away by the food. But for the price, solid food quality and service, you will be pleased. Enjoy!

Yelp
My favorite fish taco place in Puerto Vallarta. Its just a stand on the street with a few tables and stools. My fried fish taco was so fresh and tasty. Im still thinking about it a few weeks later. I also got a tostada which was good but definitely get at least one fish taco. The women who work there are super friendly. And its normal prices not PV tourist prices.

Ken M.

Yelp
Service and quality not what it used to be - not friendly to tourists, the staff spends more time talking to each other. Miss the old service levels and food!
google avatar

Johnny A.

Yelp
I had the fish tacos and the taco marlin and they were both sooo good, the corn tortillas are made there fresh and they are so good. The fish they put in the taco is huge and delicious.
google avatar

Jonathan O.

Yelp
Best fish tacos/quesadillas in Puerto Vallarta. While we were here a local fisherman came by and asked the staff if they needed any fresh catch. Food takes a little bit of time, but it's because each fish and shrimp taco is fried fresh. Also get a shrimp quesadilla!

Rae B.

Yelp
Consistently excellent food. Tortillas are made to order. The sauces that accompany are great. Excellent prices.

Gayle E.

Yelp
Incredible! The absolute best fish tacos in PV! My kids love them and we make sure we go several times when we come each trip.

Yelp
If you love tacos, you'll want to make a visit to Marisma Fish tacos on your next trip to Puerto Vallarta! Staying in the Hotel Zone, it was about a 15-20 minute drive from our hotel to this outdoor food stand. Upon arrival, we were greeted by a group of ladies who were happy to help us walk through the menu. We decided on a crispy fish taco, a shrimp taco, and a marlin taco. We ate there, and were provided a selection of salsas to add to our tacos. The first thing you'll notice is that they make your tortillas fresh to order! They make em so quick, it made me wonder why more restaurants in the Bay Area don't do the same. It elevates the overall flavor so much! The crispy fish and shrimp were definitely my favorite. Simple ingredients and amazing flavors. The best part about it, the entire meal cost less than $5 USD. For the amount of food and the authentic flavors, it was easily one of the best meals we had on our trip to Puerto Vallarta! This is definitely less touristy than some of the more popular spots and is located further from than Malecon, but definitely worth the walk or quick cab ride!
google avatar

Phil T.

Yelp
Still one of my absolute favorite spots for some lunch. The hand made tortillas with fried shrimp and/or fish tacos are really good. Enjoyed 2 shrimp tacos and one grilled shrimp quesadillas along with a refreshing aqua fresca. Total was about 150 pesos and it was way more food than I needed. Don't do spicy? try the avocado cream sauce. Outdoor seating/food cart, not an indoor restaurant.
google avatar

Kim K.

Yelp
I was not as impressed as I expected to be. The fish in the tacos was all chopped up, no seasoning. At least it wasn't covered in a heavy sauce. The shrimp tacos look like they would have been a better choice. It's very crowded here, so you need to come at an off time to be able to get a seat. I came in about 4 o'clock with the friend. Service was nice. I preferred these to other fish tacos I've had, but not really all that impressed either.
google avatar

E S.

Yelp
The shrimp tacos a la plancha are really fresh and delicious. My husband likes the fried ones too but I like the clean freshess of the plancha ones better. Great fresh tortillas and cucumber pico! The women working are efficient and work hard to produce top quality food. We always return when we're in PV, have been at least a dozen times over three visits, and it never disappoints!
google avatar

Louis B.

Yelp
Don't leave Puerto Vallarta without eating here. The fish is fresh, the preparation, consistent and flavors, rich--especially after you add some of the optional sauces. The price is ridiculous for the quality. Plus you get to sit outdoors and meet new people as you sit on your stool. Oh, and don't forget to get the "aqua con lemon" water with lemon (lemonade). Perfect.
google avatar

Alexis C.

Yelp
This is the spot for the fish and shrimp tacos. These ladies bust out tons of orders all day and they sure are delicious! This outdoor food stand is off of a cobblestone road and they have bar seating around the stand. Menu is simple and I went for the ceviche and a few fish tacos on flour tortillas. The ceviche was minced, not chunky, served on a crispy tortilla and the fish tacos were traditional baja style and tasty! I would go back again and again!
google avatar

John G.

Yelp
Really the cleanliness and friendliness of the staff are surpassed only by the delicious fresh food. Our annual trip to PV would not be the same without a stop for lunch at this taco stand! Fried shrimp tacos are my favorite.

Yelp
Roadside fish taco stand with 5 stools at the counter...and this place produces the best damn fish tacos I've ever had. Well..its a tie with Las Gadenias in Cabo. Fish tacos as big as the plate, 55 pesos.
google avatar

Yelp
SIMPLY THE BEST! Fresh, flakey and not overly battered. A must try in PV. Also the staff is super friendly and attentive
google avatar

Yelp
Want the chisme? Check out Marisma. I loved listening to the servers speaking with customers about all the latest fashion and music. Fun, lively conversations here. I had the impression that this is a spot that is popular with local folks who stop in for good eats and equally delicious conversation. Apparently, this is the original location and the restaurant has been in business for more than two decades. Marisma has two other locations further north. I tried the fish and marlin tacos. Fish was pretty good, but the marlin -- oh yes! You absolutely must order at least one of those. Standard add-ons were offered: limes, salsa and the creamy hot sauce. Wished there were a more diverse range of accoutrements, but overall pleased with the tacos. Offerings also include soup, crab, ceviche, quesadillas and other items. And the ladies make the tacos on site. They are tasty and fresh. Also, you have the option of sitting at the taco stand or along the sidewalk, which is covered conveniently for the regularly rains.

Yelp
Absolutely great food and service. Prices are great too, not like the tourist spots. Fried fish tacos were very tasty and the smoked marlin was crazy good. One of my favorite places in PV, shoutout to Memo!

Yelp
If you're looking for authentic seafood street tacos in Mexico, look no further. Don't listen to any tourist magazine, taxi driver, or friend back home and take it from a diehard foodie and a girl who has a PhD in taco eating: THIS IS THE PLACE! Marisma Fish Taco is a gem and it's on my must-eat list every time I'm in Puerto Vallarta (which is about once a year). The hours of this little taco cart vary, so don't be surprised if you first show up and they're closed. I find that going around lunchtime during the week gives you your best shot at catching them open for business. This is as local as it gets, and most of the workers swing by for a quick, satisfying and cheap lunch on the go. This place is hard to find because it's off the beaten path and is far down a small side street. Have patience and you'll eventually stumble upon it. Look for their orange and blue signage and you'll know you have arrived. The taco cart has limited seating on wooden stools so you may have to wait for a seat. Belly up to the counter and place your order. You pay after you're done eating. Bring pesos for the best deal. This is one of the cheapest and tastiest meals you'll have in Mexico. Trust me. I am partial to the grilled shrimp quesadillas, made in the traditional way which is basically like a taco with melted cheese inside, not the Americanized version that has two tortillas with the stuffing in between. The corn tortillas are made to order right in front of you and they are incredibly delicious. I could eat them by the dozen. Homemade salsas are available for free (watch out because some of them will light your mouth on fire!) and tasty. The menu is straightforward and small, and they excel at seafood tacos of all kinds. One word of caution: this isn't the place for food snobs or for people who aren't adventurous eaters. This is straight up basic street food (with a bucket and hand sanitizer for hand washing when the small outdoor sink doesn't work) and you literally sit in almost in the middle of a busy street! Pro tip: there's a convenience store on the corner nearby. Pop in before dining and buy a cheap can of beer to drink with your tacos.

Ben N.

Yelp
Great little spot. Everything cooked while you wait. Fish tacos- with lots of different types of toppings. Enjoy!
google avatar

Lily Z.

Yelp
We came here for lunch yesterday and the Boy fell in love. We liked the smoked marlin, fried shrimp, fried fish and ceviche tostada. We weren't that big of a fan of spicy crab. The ladies are very friendly and you can see them making everything from tortillas to frying their shrimp. They have interesting flavors of agua frescas like pineapple and celery. If you don't want to sit at the food stand, they have seating behind them on the sidewalk. If you're looking for more than just al pastor tacos, come on over!
google avatar

Ellen Y.

Yelp
We made the TREK to this fish taco stand, and I am SO glad we did! Both the fish and shrimp tacos were delicious. You can't go wrong with any of the options here. Grab a few tacos, sit in the counters, and embrace the local culture. This is definitely a don't miss while in PV - I still think about these tacos!

gabrielle g.

Yelp
The freshest, tastiest tacos in all of Puerto Vallarta! The tortillas are amazing, service, location, and pricing is perfect.
google avatar

Derrick P.

Yelp
Best fish tacos and marlin stew tacos in PV! My wife doesn't eat fish and she ordered a fish taco after trying a bite of mine. You won't be sorry!
google avatar

Karen C.

Yelp
The fact that I'm still fondly recalling the fried fish and shrimp tacos, dipped in batter and cooked before my eyes (the tortillas hand made at the same time) while sipping on a delicious and refreshing cantaloupe agua fresca, speaks volumes. A must visit in PV!!
google avatar

Marcy G.

Yelp
Found by accident and then looked to yelp to see it has 5 star reviews. When we first arrived we were the only ones there, but soon the place was packed. It was scrumptious. We tried the fried fish, fried shrimp, grilled shrimp, grilled fish, smoked marlin, and spicy squid tacos. All were great! I liked the grilled shrimp and fried shrimp the best. I can't decide which was better. The grilled was lighter and more summery but the fried had great seasoning and a nice light batter. The tortillas are hand made right in front of you and then cooked on the flat top while your seafood cooks. It was so good that lunch is in order again tomorrow.
google avatar

Yelp
Best fish tacos I've ever had in my life! Friendly staff and quick service. Highly recommend
google avatar

PatrickJ T.

Yelp
Awesome Fish Tacos are made here!! Best food that I had in Puerto Vallarta! Normally I am not too much of a fan of breaded fried fish in my tacos, but I will make an exception for Marisma's Fish Taco! This little food stand knows how to do them right! Oh, and the sauces are amazing! Sorry I do not recall the names of this one particular sauce, but it made the taco even better! Do yourself a favor and find this little food stand in Puerto Vallarta. They are located on Naranjo almost at the corner of Venustiano Carranza. If you like fish tacos, then you will not be disappointed!! I am salivating just remembering those yummy tacos!
google avatar

Brandi K.

Yelp
I don't think I've had a better shrimp taco in my life. They make all tortillas on site, fry the shrimp in a row so it's one piece and you get shrimp in every bite! This restaurant has an inside with table service or you can order outside at the taco stand. Prices are excellent and you won't find a better seafood taco experience in all of vallarta!
google avatar

Nicole B.

Yelp
Delicious. Fish and shrimp tacos were delish! Would highly recommend going here for tacos!
