"Stepping into Marissa’s Bakery feels a bit like stepping into another world, one where a wood-fired brick oven churns out fluffy conchas and sopapillas all day long. But the real gems are the churros, made hot and fresh for $1 each. Take a whole paper bag home." - Stacy Brooks

I didn't know what most of these were, only went off of what other strangers recommended. It was $23 at the end which was more than worth it. Everything was yummy, some maybe sweeter than one could have in one sitting.

Always good ;) it’s always fresh because there is a lot of traffic. The grocery store next door is not connected but they are all on the same block.

Came across the bakery as I was walking by. Another fellow customer told me that he comes all the way from St. Paul to get their bread every week, so I picked up half a dozen including empanadas and they were so good. The baked goods are so inexpensive too. Highly recommended.

Google
Truly a Southside "jewel in the rough" when it comes to bakery treats from Mexico! Baked right here in Minneapolis, you can't get more authentic than what you'll find in rows on the shelves, packed with freshly baked muffins, rolls, pastries, donuts, cookies, and treats! On the corner of 28th & Nicollet ave. S., this has to be the Twin Cities BEST!!!! Try it for yourself, you'll be happy you did! Oh, and please give this review a quick thumbs up if you found it helpful! Have a great day!!

Google
Big selection of pastries and everything is so fresh. I'm a fan but really the price is so cheap for the size of pastries. You can't beat it. We picked a few items we didn't recognize and they were all super delicious. I have no idea what they are called but I want more.

Arrive early in the morning for the freshest baked goods. This is my go-to spot whenever I need an emergency chocy croissant.

Google
Amazing selection of freshly baked breads and desserts! So delicious!!!

Google
The bakery items are fresh and delicious — empanadas, pasteles, churros, bolillos, conchas, etc. Prices aren't posted very well so I'm not really sure how much I'm spending until I get to the counter.

Yelp
I love their butterflies cookie and this creamy puffy pastry (not sure what it is called). As an Asian I love their sweetness level!! I can't eat things with too much sugar so this bakery is perfect

Yelp
Best Churro in Minnesota. I took a crew of teenagers here, and the teenagers all know some Spanish. They were mostly too embarrassed to try speaking, but the workers and the other customers were very kind to them. The kids ended up buying plenty of treats and declaring all of them fabulous. This is a bakery for anyone. There's usually plenty of parking on the street, even with the construction.

Yelp
I was in Minneapolis for the 49er game with 4 other guys. We rented a house around the corner. I walked over Sunday morning and purchased some pan dulce. It was probably the best pan dulce I've ever had. I've tried my share of pan dulce being from East Bay, CA. The pan dulce was still warm and very tasty. My friends agreed with me, excellent pan dulce I highly recommend Marissa's Bakery for some pan dulce.

Yelp
Best bakery!!!! We are happy to have found this right down the road from us!!! We have not gotten anything we haven't liked! They even make their own Tortillas, which are good and a great price!

Yelp
I have had Marissa's bakery bread since I was a baby, not joking. This bakery has a long history in the whittier neighborhood and with it, a great trajectory of delicious, fresh and scrumptious bread. When asked about Mexican bakeries, this is my favorite in all of Minnesota. As you walk in, you're greeted with a sweet bread scent that will make you feel in pan dulce paradise. Bread is baked daily and it is always fresh. My favorite pan are the conchas, they're not thick and hard like most bakeries around town. These are soft, sweet and just perfect to dip into milk. I need to stop myself from eating more than one in one sitting! If you're wondering where the best rosca de Reyes is at, this bakery is it. They typically have long lines the day of, so make sure you reserve yours or pick it up early!

Yelp
No vallan! Cambian los precios de los pasteles siempre cuando se les de la gana! STAY AWAY! They (the staff) all change the prices on everything if you don't know them! And the cakes have gotten so bland! They are over priced and lack proper signage!

Yelp
My boys always love a fresh Churro so we gave this bakery a chance! Grab a blue tray and tongs at the counter and select items to fulfill your hearts desire. Each item is pictured and priced above the display cases so you can have an idea of what you're getting. BE AWARE everything is in Spanish but with a little help from google you can figure out some foreign goodies. Arroz con leche doughnut 4/5 - They came fresh out of the oven so I needed to score one. The baked and fried bread was very soft, fragrant, and not overly sweet. I was not impressed by the filling, I felt it was a bit grainy. Conchas 2/5 - They were all very big and fluffy in appearance, but when bitten into revealed quite the dry brioche. Not much of a butter/sugar topping as most other places offer. Empanadas de queso 5/5 - LOVED THEM! They come in the size of your palm so its perfect for splitting with another person. The filling was creamy, moderately sweet, and was the perfect ratio. Churros 4/5 - Enjoy them while fresh! A tad greasy but it did not bother me. Good cinnamon and sugar treat after lunch. Ojo de buey 5/5 - Another loved item. These come quite large! The outer layer is flaky and sweet while the center is an eggy cake like density. Very enjoyable with a cup of coffee - YUM! Pay de queso 5/5 - Cheesy, firm, filling, not overly sweet. Scrumptious. Conos rellenos de crema 1/5 - The filling was way too heavy for the light outer pastry, I was really hoping to like this one but it was an utter disappointment. Overall I felt like the items were hit and miss. I also did venture here near end of lunch hour so perhaps the items were not as fresh as usual. I will definitely give this location another try and get the 'Loved' items and try some other things.

Yelp
Happy to have found this authentic spot. A search for dessert led to a meal being brought home for lunch. We grabbed some Carnitas, tortillas, and chicken and pork tamales to go. All reasonably priced. The green sauce that accompanied the meal was spicy and the peppers and green onion an added bonus to the meal. Our only regret was not getting the refried beans. Everything was delicious! For dessert we chose a variety of pastries. Bread pudding is just ok, conchas delicious and a variety of others that ranged from good to just ok. A bakery, a store, and a resteraunt in one place. Worth stopping by for a try.

Yelp
Great little spot on Nicollet if you are craving some Mexican foods. With all the construction it's a little confusing how to enter the deli part. The signs are above where you order and there's no line and I feel like if you stand there and wait patiently for someone to take your order - people just cut in front of you because you don't speak the language. So not cool, be assertive and order. Service was fast, you pay at the end of the counter and sit down and wait for your food. Ask for extra sauce, it is not spicy but it does compliment and give your meal a nice authentic flavor. I was boring that day, I ordered a taco salad for lunch with the coworkers. Don't judge me, I was trying to diet for Vegas bod! Taco shell - extremely fresh from the fryer and very crispy Fillings were superb but lost overwhelming but I'm not complaining!! It's a deli kinda thing, you order and you have some tables to sit down such as a cafeteria style. Chicken wings - batter was very thick and a very minor spice to it but it wasn't anything special. Meat was juicy but not anything I would order again. What I noticed is the regulars ordered the whole or half of grilled chicken and shared. I must find people and drag them with me so I can try it! Will come back!

Yelp
My cousin is a Muslim woman. She wears a full hijab. Face, hair, body completely covered. You can only see her eyes. For some reason this wasnt enough for the people at this bakery and they refused her service due to no face mask. Did they want her to put a face mask, over her religious face mask? Very rude and extremely racist/predigest. May God have mercy on your ignorant soul.

Yelp
This place has amazing frozen pulps of fruit like lulo, guanábano, piña, mango, and more. Their groceries have so many Mexican and South American foods that I miss so much. I love the variety of hot sauce - trust me I stocked up! I also love the bakery and deli section, what amazing choices. The people are also so friendly and helpful! Amazing place!

Yelp
Best bakery in MN! You can come in and they bread is baked every couple hours because it gets sold that quick! It's always soft, warm & delicious! It's not like other bread where's you buy it and the next day it's so hard. This one stays soft!
google avatar

Rachel S.

Yelp
The baked goods here are legit. Very fresh tasting and cheap! There was such a large selection of pastries, breads and cookies, we weren't able to try them all. If I lived here, I would def try a lot more!
google avatar

Ashley E.

Yelp
We didn't get a chance to try any baked goods but did stop in for lunch. We got the sopes and steak meal (#6) alambre with carnitas (#8), and an al pastor taco ($2). All were delicious and they serve up large portions! There was a huge line for the pastries the entire time we were there so we will definitely return to try some and eat some more tacos! As a side note Marissas is a bakery and restaurant where you order at the counter. In the same building is El Mariachi grocery store which sells a large variety of produce and shelf stable products. You cannot enter the grocery store from Marissas, you must walk outside and go in the side entrance by the parking lot. The El Mariachi carry out is also housed in the same building however the formal sit down El Mariachi restaurant is across the parking lot (and to clarify, we didn't eat at El Mariachi!)

Yelp
What can I say? They bake good breads. They have a great selection and the bread is made fresh daily. You can't beat that. There isn't parking, so you'll have to find a spot alongside the street. Definitely worth a trip if you are near Eat Street in Minneapolis. Grab a bag of goodies to take home. You'll thank them when you are biting into your sandwich or dunking some bread in your soup. It's absolutely delicious! I can't wait to go back and try them again. There are so many items to choose from!

Yelp
Rich tasting deliciousness, the opposite of over priced bakery shops. Can you get anything for $1.00 these days? At Marrissa's, YES YOU CAN! This is no hole in the wall, the place has been up and running for as long as i have lived here. A quaint bakery shop that reminds me of the same ones i frequented, a childhood filled with shitty memories. Everything is freshly baked as they run out. This is not one of those bakeries that tends to be more of a deli-counter experience, you go in, grab a tray and a pair of tongs and start filling. For a bakery shop they really have a scrumptious home-made Tres Leches, Dulce De Leche Flan and other cakes. Vast selection of Galletas, and freshly baked pastries that will have you wanting more. You can smell the Besos and Nuez Con Crema from a mile a way, the Concha is super delicious always, so is the Compechana and the Cuerno De Agave. The Empanadas De Pina remind me of home, How about a foot-long Churro? If none of this is appealing, pay homage to Marissa's Deli just a few feet away for some first-rate food from south of the border.

Yelp
Marissa's has fantastic Mexican food and baked goods. The jalapeño cheese bread is delicious! We will definitely be back next time we go to the Twin Cities.

Yelp
I swear this place has been here forever and looks and i believe will stay the same. Back in the day this bakery wasnt as good i remember my mom complaining how the bread was hard and bugs and all that i was like maybe 7. Now past years the bakery like turned a new leaf I love me some latin bread cakes flan jello all soo good for the thighs. and everytime i try to go to a new bakery to explore my options i always come back to Marissa's The prices are cheap compared to other latin bakeries on lake street. and the owners are soo funny and nice.Yesterday was my nephews birthday and he wanted a tres leches cake we went too 3 other bakeries and the cakes were small and pricey. When we came here the price was $25 and the cake was pretty big im like lets do it. Time to eat the cake the tres leches cake and omg not soggy not dry just right. I hate tres leches cake that has fruit inside and this one i asked not to have that. I got what i wanted no fruit yass just fruit ontop of the cake no biggie. I also got a churro and two sugar bread soo soft chewy and warm and filled with sugar that covered my clothing in it. the best!! Try this bakery please you wont regret it.

Yelp
I placed an order on a cake to be made for 12pm and I come into the shop- it doesn't look busy or understaffed and I keep getting told "ten more minutes" or "it's coming"! I already paid for it over the phone and was expecting an easy pickup... Now here I am a half hour later standing and waiting. Doesn't even apologize either.

Yelp
Marissa's Bakery is a Mexican bakery in the same building as a little hole in the wall restaurant and a grocery store. If you go there bring cash and be ready to get by on either gestures or whatever Spanish you have. Only some of the staff speak English but all of them were friendly. It looks like Marissa's Bakery has a steady stream of customers. I've been into Marrissa's Bakery 4 or 5 times total and three times recently. I kept going back to "give it a fair chance." I don't really like it though I want to. I don't know if the problem is with Marissa's or with me. I have this idealized memory of what Mexican baked goods should taste like and this isn't it. Mexican bakeries were part of my childhood in the 70's, but nothing here tastes quite like what I expect. I don't know if Marissa hails from a different part of Mexico, or has adapted recipes to American ingredients (more wheat flour, less corn), or if the baking styles I remember are simply gone with the seventies. Some of the food tasted too dry to me, but maybe it was supposed to be this way? (The moist wet-bottomed cake and the flan in the cooler by the door were a big exception to this.) There were a few things I liked, though probably not enough to go back again soon. I'd tell you which items I liked but I can't figure out most of the names. There were labels but they seemed to have no relationship to what was on the shelves, because the stock kept changing even though the labels stayed put. Or maybe they just renamed everything each day!

Yelp
Workers are incredibly nice. Huge variety, clean place, delicious baked goods. Plus, $1 churros, cmon el jefe.

Yelp
One part bakery, one part food court, one part mercado; Marissa's kind of has it all. I usually start on the grocery side of things and get what I need for the week. Mexican Crema, chilis, and tortillas abound. The prices seem higher, but you're supporting a local store rather than a big chain, so take that into account. You're also not likely to get everything you need here, so word to the wise. I then swing over to the bakery on the corner and grab something sweet. Because I'm 7 years old in my mind sometimes, the cookies covered in sprinkles always tickle my fancy. But they have churros, croissant-type things, bread, and a million other baked goods. These aren't the ones you'll see elsewhere, so buyer beware. They are tasty, but not sickeningly sweet like our palates have sometimes come to expect. Then finally to the grill where they're making really tasty Mexican food. it's not the freshest around, and I didn't see any salsa to give my dish a little heat, but the flautas I had very pretty tasty and arrived quickly. It's easy to make multiple stops in one place for pretty much everything that I need in life.

Yelp
I love this place so much! I recently moved here from SATX and I've been missing pan dulce like crazy! Marissa's Bakery makes my homesickness fade a little more. This is the best place to go for authentic pan, and the market next door is a great place to stop for extra treats!

Rowena N.

Yelp
Love their bakery. Would recommend getting pastries in early afternoon or later morning or your selection/options narrow down. Prices are very reasonable (I think it is around $1) but it would be helpful if they actually have a price list, which they don't on the self-serve side. On the self-serve bakery window, occasionally I find it odd that they don't have tongs to pick up the goods...maybe I'm a bit OCD but I would like to think other people haven't touched my bread before I scarf it down. Anyways, great bang for your buck. Try the corn/tamale muffin -- it is out of this world!

Yelp
Marissa's bakery serves up fresh Hispanic baked goods and desserts. You pick your favorite selections, place them on a tray and check out at the counter. Everything is economically priced and the staff is friendly. I recommend the creamy caramel flan as well as the churro's (great texture and perfect level of sweetness)! Will definitely come back!!
google avatar

J. P.

Yelp
I generally don't like Mexican baked goods. They're usually too dry, cake-y and bland, for my taste, with an oft-oversweet glaze or topping. Marissa's is the exception. I went there once by accident with a friend and now go back every couple of weeks. The churros are super. light and egg-y almost-creamy interior, and fried crisp but not burnt, and a little oily but not too greasy. Perfect and try the bread pudding-y thing. And the cheese danish if they have it. If they have the danish stuffed with ham and cheese, buy a dozen and freeze them. Seriously. On the other side of the store is the lunch/dinner cafeteria. The chicken mole is the best in town. Salsa a la Salsa circa 2004 may have had them beat, but that place changed its recipe or execution, I think. Nice balance of cocoa and chilis. Great consistency. Delicious. The burritos are also very good. Roasted pork and al pastor are pretty stellar. The atmosphere is that of a grocery store. Kitsch and irony don't do it for me, but it's an Ok place to eat a quick meal. And clean enough. Nice people work there. Helpful. Efficient. Give it a try.

Yelp
I'm from Madison WI, but every time I visit my brother in Minneapolis I have to stop to Marissas to have some of their delicious bread and unos ricos tacos...
google avatar

Mari R.

Yelp
Best Mexican bakery in Minneapolis. Bread always fresh, 3 leches cakes have always met family's expectations. Cashier is super friendly & good customer service which keeps us coming back.

Alejandra C.

Yelp
Best Mexican bakery in the twin cities! This bakery has tons of different kinda of breads you can find anything from salty to sweet. They also do wedding and birthday cakes. and its really cheap too!! I don't think I have ever purchased any bread over 2 dollars, most is a dollar or less. The best part of about this bakery is that it has a grocery store and restaurant attached to it as well. If your looking for hard to find south american foods this is the place to go. They specialize in mexican and south american products. The restaurant has great mexican fast food like tacos, tortas, burritos etc. its a great stop for lunch or even dinner.

Lynn M.

Yelp
I tried to call to ask how to prepare the pork al pastor taco meat and they hung up on me twice. Rude! I will be looking for another market.
google avatar

Lorena W.

Yelp
I love this bakery, market, and taco cafe! I feel welcomed and I know I'm getting authentic bake goods and tacos! Also, a great place to practice speaking Spanish!

Boss H.

Yelp
Best taco place in Minneapolis by a mile, if you go on a weekday for lunch. This rating is not for the actual baked goods--Mexican bakery is not to my taste. Tacos, however, are one of the world's greatest foods.

Hannah T.

Yelp
I've been in search of a good tortilleria and this is it. BEST tortillas ever. They don't taste like much cold, but warm them up on the stove and they'll puff like good ones do and be absolutely perfect. Their little marrano pastries (pig-shaped gingerbread-like soft cookie-cakes) are also big winners. I see there aren't many reviews here so I guess it's a hidden gem.

Nea J.

Yelp
I've only been here once, but the tres leche was the best I've ever had. $3.00 for a huge slice that was very moist and perfectly spongy. There were many other desserts to pick from, so I will go back to give those a try.

Marta N.

Yelp
Probably the best cakes in town if you can deal with the rude service. I always order my tres leches cake here because they are the tastiest and the decorations are so cute. You can no longer get a cute looking cake. Instead you can get a digital print off of a character or scene. My Spanish is mediocre so ordering a cake has generally been easy BUT be prepared for it to take 30 minutes as the owner serves every last customer before dealing with cake orders. At least the finished product is good.
