Yelp
A slice of diner heaven in Tremont. I never had the chance to check out Martha when they were doing their pop-ups, but no doubt their success is reflected in their ability to get a much coveted retail space in the heart of Tremont. Being Tremont, street parking is the name of the game and can be hit or miss.
The storefront is pretty small and easy to miss as well - unless you look for the gaggle of people next to two tiny cyan sidewalk tables waiting outside for their food. If you spot an open seat at the larger picnic tables at the intersection of W 10th and Professor/Fairfield Ave, try to snag it early for when your food is ready. On a Sunday morning about an hour after opening, there was already one party at each of the sidewalk tables and several people waiting for their order.
Inside, there's counter seating for four and barely enough room for 2 other people in front of the counter - hence why you'll be asked to wait outside for your food. COVID awareness, thank you! Everything is shiny and new, but with a strong retro vibe. Staff are very friendly and chill. One of them even chased me down the sidewalk as I was wandering and waiting to give me my Horchatte! Everyone is showing off plants these days, and you'll find a Conga line of mini plants lining the high windowsill.
There are no menus posted on the wall, but you can find the full menu online (including the daily Fly By) or on a printed menu on the counter. If you don't know what you want yet, give the cashier your name and phone number to get the process rolling for text notifications. The food came more quickly than I expected, and best experienced hot. The Fly By Mortadella Pesto was so tender and juicy, and I'm not sure the bun would have survived the drive home. But what a delicious combo! The Lox Potato Crispy was also a unique spin on classic breakfast items and supremely tasty. Overall the food is on the heavier side and I'd recommend splitting a Crispy if you're planning on getting a sandwich as well since the portions are bigger than than the tiny menu and inside would suggest!
You won't find a public restroom here, but there are multiple trashcans located at the intersection to toss your trash once you've licked the wrappers clean. Can't wait to return and try more of their revamped breakfast creations!
